This is my favorite place to go to for vegetarian Chinese cuisine. I really love the Bean curd family style though I wish it had a little heat to it, maybe eating adding sliced jalapeños to the veggie mix would really help it without making it too spicy. My husband does not like the general sows chicken, it's very ketchup-like flavor though I thought it was delicious. I haven't got a lot of the meat dishes but if you're looking for vegetarian go here. I did have an allergic reaction to the hot and spicy soup, my lips swelled to double in size and I can't figure out what was in it that would cause that, as it's not a common occurrence with me. Just had the beef and broccoli and it was fantastic. The broccoli was crunchy and the beef was tender. The flavoring was spot on perfect amount of heat and great taste. Also had the won ton soup and it was very good. A little salty for my taste but it was great overall. I highly recommend Hunan Cafe to anyone who likes Chinese food. Oh, and ignore the one and two star ratings from the entitled morons. They are self important morons who are perfect in every way and can only find fault in the lesser people around them. The staff was very nice. Food was kind of bland and watered down. But we were starving and they were slammed with Friday night togo orders. We got the orange chicken which looked vibrant and promising... But the flavor was very watered down (literally, there was a pool of water in the bottom of the bowl). I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since they were so busy. I'll try again during non-peak hours. Every business deserves a second chance. read more

My first time trying this place and had low expectations which weren't met. I ordered shrimp fried rice, cream cheese wontons, and vegetable egg roll. The fried rice was hard and bland. The rest of the food was marginally tasty. I want to give them another shot just in case they had a bad night, but I don't really want to chance eating here again. Quick and convenient Chinese food. Always hot and fresh tasting. The menu is up on the wall along with pictures to help those indecisive people. Nice neighborhood Chinese joint. Fast service, polite and friendly service and clean. It's probably not what you would find in San Francisco but it's fresh and is Chinese food that doesn't make me ache from the msg later. The stores in this shopping center got a raw deal when they re-routed Gum Spring but these guys have gone on bravely maintaining their standards and serving their customers. Sadly I do not order here every other day anymore as a matter a fact I do not order at all, on New Year's Eve I ordered a couple things and the lady got it confused, they were very rude when I called back.. Recommendations ; don't order large fries , no such thing, when calling in for Lunch make sure to say LUNCH or they will give you dinner and it's pricey for no reason.. Avoid this place at all costs. Their lobster anything is actually cheap crawfish, and even that's mushy from going or gone bad. Grease in anything stir fried takes up about half of the container, and when you call them to complain, they will either act like they didn't know or insist that you are wrong. I love Cantonese style Chines food, but this has to be the worst restaurant I've ever been where the owner will lie about what he's advertising, and do everything he can to save money at the expense of the food. If you like spoiled shellfish and wash it down with pool of grease, this is the perfect place for you. read more

Great Chinese Food! We are very picky about our Chinese and especially our dumplings. We were ecstatic when we found that not only were the dumplings great, everything was! Plus they deliver into Aldie proper. We have had many guests over and everyone agrees that the food is really good. We live close so we order from here often because they deliver quickly. Though we have to request and pay for extra beef, my husband really likes the beef with broccoli. I however have tried 9 different dishes and though none of them have been good (I constantly ask for extra spicy just to get some flavor but it is always bland) tonight's order was by far the worst. I ordered the Pad Kaprow Shrimp which is a dish I am familiar with and per the menu it contains "stir fried fresh basil, onion,snow peas, & bell pepper" along with shrimp. However when it arrived it was 90% broccoli, tomato, carrot, cabbage, and zucchini. None of these are listed on the menu nor are they a part of Pad Kaprow anything (chicken/shrimp). When I called to complain, the gentleman on the phone was polite but said "that was how the chef makes it"....to which I further complained and he conceded to crediting my account. The part of this that makes me the maddest is that they arbitrarily tweaked the menu and filled it with "filler" vegetables which have nothing to do with the dish itself AND it robs me of that which I paid for. read more

This is one of my favorite go tos for Chinese. The food has always been fresh. Tonight I stopped at the thai place that was down a few doors for Pad Thai but the reviews I saw were sketchy so I stopped down to the Hunan Café for Crab Ragoon and soup in case I truly did not like the other dish. Upon reviewing the menu discovered they also had a chicke pad thai so I ordered it. For being a Chinese restaurant doing a Thai food it was 10x better then Smile but it was not the best Chicken Pad Thai I've had (actual Thai) But I enjoyed it. My favorite is the fried rice noodle Singapore but honestly I have not had bad food. read more

I actually checked the address to make sure that I left a critique of the correct restaurant because I didn't want to trash the wrong restaurant. OMG! I have not ever had Chinese food that was this bad. Seriously! I tried this place for the first time ...ugh . I actually searched for the phone number to complain, but my fiancée said that the food was so obviously bad that the management would have no idea that the food was actually bad. The kung pao chicken had zero sauce or flavor and the chefs specialty general Taos was bright red...like really bad sweet and sour. The crab Rangoon was actually great..we decided that the restaurant must have bought it from someone else because it was better than anything else we ordered. The egg rolls we ordered looked and tasted like spring rolls...do they know the difference?? I think not! I would not EVER recommend this place. BTW. I'm Asian and like all kinds of different Asian foods, so I was hopeful when I saw noodle soup on the menu; it tends to show up at more authentic restaurants. We ordered the spicy beef noodle soup and the non-spicy beef noodle soup. Both were very good with fresh noodles and a flavorful broth. STICK WITH THE NOODLE SOUP HERE! The rest of the items were below average, even for suburb take-out standards. The pan-fried dumplings were tough and seemed reheated. The pork with garlic sauce (that is almost never bad anywhere) was the worst that I've ever had; all carrots strips, mystery meat, and no garlic sauce flavor. It could have been any other stir-fried dish. The free pad thai that came with it was meh. It looked ok, but was so bland and flavorless. I would have given this place a 1 star, but the unexpectedly good noodle soup bumped the score up to a 3. read more
