The food is consistent, the supermeal deal is great, and especially during the pandemic they have been fast. Have there been misses here and there? Sure. I give this place 0 stars!!! My family and I are stopping in flagstaff on our way to CA. I was craving Chinese food so asked the front desk what he recommends and he told us this place. I called in an order picked it up got back to our hotel room just to discover they didn't put in anything to eat with. Ok not that big of deal... We went to the gas station/mini mart and got spoons. We started eating our food and YUCK!!!! It is so incredibly gross!! We got the broccoli beef chicken fried rice. I don't know what people are thinking giving this place any stars! This place is hit or miss. We have ordered a variety of dishes on the menu and none were that great ,but my husband and I have figured out what works for us. War Won ton Soup, Pot stickers (are huge and handmade unique for Flagstaff) and BBQ pork. The also provide good customer service. We are from Boston and SF and this place does not compare to the Chinese food in either of those cities, that being said we feel this is the best Flagstaff has to offer and wouldn't tell someone not to go there we have just experienced so much better. read more

Just tried this tonight with some friends. We were all pretty excited because there are not too many great Chinese restaurants here. The value seemed great, but as soon as we got our main dishes, we were all pretty disgusted. We couldn't even finish our food. It was flavorless and had some odd textures. Good Chinese at a good price. Got all my roommates hooked. Whenever we crave Chinese, it's "who wants Hunan?" The owner is always there and they are very hard workers. The crowd is as casual as it gets, but the atmosphere is comfortable and you can fill your belly for about $10 with their special value menu, which is a great deal! read more

Hunan West is much better as far as food goes, but is out of the way for me, as i live in Williams and normally am downtown. Hunan West in Flagstaff, AZ is my all time Favorite Asian Restaurant. My wife and I ate there at least once and sometimes twice a week during the 1990's. My favorite menu item was Broccoli In Hot Sauce. I could not get enough and to this day have never forgotten the taste of the fresh broccoli and that amazing sauce. Walked in and waited five minutes to be seated, when only three other families were in the entire place. Then a family of five comes in a few minutes after us, sits down, and receives menus and drinks. Meanwhile we are seated and don't receive any acknowledgement from staff. We waited about ten minutes after being seated before walking out. We knew once the family placed their food orders before we even received a menu, water, or silverware that the service would be terrible. We had never tried Hunan West before and now we won't go back. Going 15 minutes without a menu, water, or acknowledgment is unacceptable. read more

While visiting from Southern California, our family got snowed in so we found this restaurant closest to our hotel. I'll admit that I didn't have high expectations, since many Chinese restaurants are greasy, salty, and American versions of good Chinese dishes- BUT this place was amazing! We ordered 7 items and soup to go. I recommend the special "8 Treasures" and it was the best dish I've had in a long time. The mushu pork was not over cooked and the orange chicken was crunchy and just sweet enough. The boys loved the shrimp fried rice. We had the Mongolian beef and House chowmein. Dishes flavorful and tasty...not to mention a lot in portion. Mongolian beef was nicely seared tender in a brown sauce and sauteed onions, not too spicy. House chowmein stir fried just right with equal parts of shrimp beef and chicken...very nice flavor. The dishes were complimented with veggies that didn't overpower. Staff is friendly. The food was really good. I had the kung-pow beef. It had a nice pow! My wife had chicken fried rice and she really liked it. The 8.95 special is an excellent deal. Our reason for four stars is organization. We had to wait a bit to get seated while several workers looked at us. Our food (although amazing) came out several minutes apart. Went here last night I would give this place a lower rating but the egg flower soup was really good for Arizona egg flower soup. I'm giving this place a 3 because I found a black hair under my rangoon! I was so sad! The rangoon was so good until I notice the hair. My last reasoning is the main dishe I got was kind of nasty. If I could give 0 stars I would. 11% hospitality tax. I think this is wrong. But even the tax added to our meal it was more than 11%. I did the math and they charged flat $71. I googled the restaurant tax and it came to 9% sooo..idk but never going there again. Plus the food was crap. Talked to manager and he told me its easier to tax each item. I really wanted to like this place especially because the people are nice but we've been here twice and both times were disappointing. It is pretty pricey for the quality of food you get. We ordered sweet sour chicken, lemon chicken and the house fried rice. Both chicken dishes were extremely battered and not cooked (fried) thoroughly. We had a horrible experience. Other than very nice staff, the food was either too salty or tasteless. The wanton soup only tasted like salt and didn't resemble any wanton soup I've ever had before. I love Hunan West. We moved to Flagstaff when I was 3 years old and remember going there with my mom when I was about 5 and went there often until I moved. When ever I come back to visit I always have to stop here. The crab cheese wontons are to die for and the hot and sour soup is awesome. My Favorite meal there is in the Hunan Special section of the dinner menu and is call Chin Pi Beef. It is twice cooked beef and I have had a hard time finding an equal in Phoenix. read more
