We arrived on a Thursday at 5:00 pm and there was not a soul in the parking lot. This should have been my sign. When we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly young man who showed us to our seat. I got nervous when the adult near him went over to the buffet and started stirring the buffet items. Ok here we go! The food is tasty and not as warm as I would like or expect. The price is however EXCELLENT. 4 of us for the lunch buffet was under 60 bucks. Service was acceptable and attentive. Ok, there are probably better Chinese buffets in the city but this one is close and pretty darn good. The parking lot is a mess, but the restaurant seems to be clean. There is a young lady both times I've been there, that is constantly checking and cleaning the food area. They have good egg rolls, fried rice and egg drop soup, my 3 staples. Several of their entress are pretty good too. Definitely my Chinese spot when I'm hungry. read more

My favorite thing at hunan wok hands is the bourbon chicken from the buffet. The atmosphere is ok but the inside is starting to show its age. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes it's really spot on and other times I'm lucky to get a refill of my fluid of choice. Menus are wrong, I couldn't order anything. It's next to impossible to find vegetarian Chinese options (besides tofu) in Oklahoma, so when I saw an extensive vegetarian menu for Hunan Wok, I was skeptically intrigued. I called for takeout and tried to order vegetarian chunky chicken and I was told they don't have that item. Okay, maybe they were out... I then tried to order the vegetarian sweet and sour chicken and they told me they don't have any vegetarian items. Seriously? They assumed I had the wrong restaurant and that was it. I cross-referenced menus from Yelp, Google and DoorDash. They all showed the same vegetarian menu. Is the menu old or simply wrong? My husband and I came here for lunch and the food was ok. Nothing crazy just a basic buffet. The issue with my visit was as we went to pay they charged me for 2 bills mine (that was $30) and for someone else's (for $45). I went to the desk to see why they had charged me twice and they just kept asking if my card was a credit card and not explaining why I was just charged for 2 bills. Finally when they put together that they used my card to pay for 2 separate bills they refunded me the wrong bill ..... so in the end they refunded me both bill amounts and made me pay my bill AGAIN. To me, the real gem of this place isn't their buffet, but their takeout options. There are better Chinese buffets to be found in OKC, but the takeout here is really the sweet spot. Portions are great for the prices paid. Food is fresh when cooked to order and the takeout menu offers a lot more options than the buffet serves. I travel to the complete other side of town when I'm craving some good ole fashioned Chinese takeout. I go here all the time now. My favorite is the build your own barbecue section. The garlic sauce is amazing. I have always been a sauce fanatic so I thought it was just me who was crazy about the sauce. However, one day I was there with a couple friends raving about their garlic sauce. Randomly, this crazy-looking dude next to us overhears me and starts rambling about how he's also addicted to the sauce. He was so excited to find someone else to relate to his manic obsession that he was twitching and laughing hysterically throughout the entire conversation. He explained how he had tried to research the recipe on the internet and replicate it in his own kitchen, but failed despite several attempts. Now he has to buy it here once a week and bring it home for his own use. At this point, he literally buys a soup cup full of garlic sauce and leaves. True story. Anyway, as I said in my last review, there is a lot of mediocre stuff, but there is a lot of good stuff too. I think it's worth mentioning that the sushi bar has raw salmon, which is pretty cool for a $7-$9 buffet. I've eaten nearly everything in the entire place, even the weird stuff. My bowels are pretty easily irritated and yet, I have never gotten sick here, even eating raw salmon, various strange seafood items, and trusting their cooks at the Mongolian BBQ section. That's saying a lot since it's very easy for me to get an upset stomach. Anyway, this place is great and I go here at least once a week. read more

Every once in a while, you end up at a Chinese buffet. More often than not, it's because you've forgotten your last shame-inducing experience. It's been years since I've been to Hunan Wok. Maybe it's not going to be that ba... Op... nope, still shame-inducing... Also, now the food quality is kind of terrible. Annnnd service is fairly nonexistent. Annnd prices have gone up. Dinner for two was approximately $25 after all was said and done. I couldn't decide if I felt sick from the food, or from the knowledge that I spent $25 at an awful Chinese buffet. $25 gets you quite a few decent dining options here in Oklahoma City. This shouldn't be one of those options. Everything that got Hunan Wok a passing grade in the past has disappeared. Much like my will to live when leaving a buffet. Let's see if I can stay away for more than two years this time before I forget how much I regret going to Chinese buffets. Some of the heat lamps here have been on since God was a child and Hector was a pup. A couple of the dishes on the buffet here are OK, but DO go earlier in the day -- you know, before The Great Heat Lamp Marathon has begun. There's always kimchi (a big plus for me) on the buffet, and also steamed buns filled with savory and sweet fillings alike. The sushi bar here is decent enough, as is the so called "Mongolian barbecue." Don't expect loads of authenticity here -- this is pretty Anglicized stuff here. But for what it IS? So, I was expecting full-service, and I got a very comfortable casual meal. (Guess I wasn't paying close attention, since we were in a rush.) Anyhow, the food was clean and still warm. Nothing piping hot, and straight out of the kitchen, though. Although, there is the option to grill your own fresh meal at a Mongolian-style barbecue in the facility. Loved it. I headed out the door from home to find some place to eat. I wasn't sure what that was going to be but at the top of my mind was Chinese buffet. However, I just couldn't think of a place nearby. I almost pulled into the Del Taco across the street and just order takeout to take home but then I looked across the street and saw the Hunan Wok Restaurant. Just what wanted though I had no idea if the place was any good or not. Lots of choices that looked simply delicious. My problem with buffets if they're any good at all is that I just can't try everything without stuffing myself. I got quite a few small portions so I could get a taste of as many as possible. Everything was good. I think the Hot & Sour soup was the best part of the meal. The dessert bar wasn't great but I had some mandarin oranges with marshmallows in some form of ambrosia and it was very tasty. I also had the bananas in some kind of red sauce and it was delicious too. Also I had a couple of cookies. Everything was just wonderful. I'm used to being disappointed with the taste of buffet food but nothing disappointed me here. From someone who cooks a home a lot, I give it easily five stars and I will be back to savor some other dishes that my stomach was just not big enough to try today. read more

Visited Hunan Wok to experience the lunch buffet and was pleasantly surprised. There was a very large selection of favorite dishes, soups, kid item such as pizza and chicken fingers and salad. There is a sushi buffet but the roles are very small and generic, but I did see them rolled fresh. I was surprised to see everything one the buffet was very fresh looking despite what others had left in their reviews. I was very happy having the bourbon chicken, King Pao chicken, broccoli beef and spicy garlic chicken. The fried rice was pretty good as was the Crab Rangoon and sweet and sour chicken. In addition to the self- service buffet, there is a build your own Mongolian Grill. I was happy to have several choices such as noodles, rice noodles or rice in addition to several vegetable choices with sliced beef, chicken or shrimp. I tried the garlic sauce but it was very thin and bland. Others tried the Mongolian and Teriyaki sauces and were happier. For desert there is a selection of frozen yogurt, fruits, cakes, cookies and jello's. I tried the cheesecake and it was pretty basic. It's a chinese bufffet, so you can expect that some of the food might be a little dried out, but overall this place was well worth the $$. Children under 2 are free,prices ranged from $4-10 depending on if you're a kid, or if you're there for dinner or lunch. The variety was pretty standard, including some "eh, why do they have pizza and fries?" (answer: kids are weird) The mongolian BQ was pretty awesome. Only 3 sauces to pick from (teryaki, mongolian, and I forget... probably a garlic or something.) A nice selection of meats, and veggies, and even bacon and eggs and pineapple. The chef was very respectable and folded out and ensured the proper cooking of all the meats. He also took a moment to cut the larger chunks of broccoli down to bite sized chunks. All in all my wife, daughter, and I all left satisfied. Most importantly, as some buffets can leave you feeling ill because of poor handling/quality, Hunan Wok did not. We all felt great and had no ill-effects. (How sad is it that I feel the need to mention this? But seriously, I love chinese food. I feel that a buffet is the best way for a diverse food like chinese to be served in. And just about every buffet I have tried is either super expensive or ends up making me feel sick. I'll never understand why buffets choose to abandon quality/safety to offset the costs of the "all you can eat" aspect. Again, I'll mention that from this visit we had NO SUCH PROBLEM. I went to this place when I had just moved to Oklahoma City. Buffet places tend to excite me as my decision making ability when trying to order while looking at a menu is extremely poor. Finding a buffet place this close to where I live really got my expectations high but unfortunately, the food here was a mess. The best stuff on the buffet were average at best and the rest were pretty bad. The sushi wasn't even edible.
