It's been years since I've last been here, but everything was just as good as I remembered! We came on a Saturday morning and our waitress was friendly and checked on us frequently, and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was absolutely delicious! I ordered a veggie omelet which came with toast and coffee. Overall, highly recommend for anyone visiting the area, and hope to come back the next time I'm in town too. read more

relaxing cabin vibe, small town so seems like a lot of locals enjoy start their day here. Everything was delicious. I ordered the chicken fried steak wish sausage gravy and added a side of home fries with onions. Best old school breakfast in a long time. The restaurant is tucked away, and seems like a local favorite more than a beaten-path kind of place. That said, we got there just before a rush of customers, and we were glad we did because it filled up pretty quickly. The service was super-friendly, highly responsive, and pretty quick. We ordered combo #2 and, I think, #13 (the one with avoocado toast). Both were excellent. Key point: the home fries are old school diner home fries which you can get with onions and peppers - fantastic! We sat in the front area, near a wood stove, which felt log cabin like. I didn't notice the decor much because the food was so good and the service so efficient. We ate there at the start of a long drive, and they comfortably got us in and out in good time. Just spent my birthday here last week and it was amazing! They serve breakfast all day and are open from 7-2 pm. It's almost always crowded and busy with locals but the food speaks for itself. Loved the Chicken and waffles with the sausage gravy- classic perfection. Loved the ambiance and atmosphere of this place, felt like home and loved the wooden interior. The waitresses were so diligent, friendly and kind. Highly recommend this place if you want to explore different breakfast brunch eateries in town. read more

Outstanding! Passing through on the way to Vermont. Used Yelp to pick a breakfast spot. Luckily, the first place I picked was closed, even though their Yelp page said the were open. Hungry Bear was actually my second choice, but I'm glad it's where I ended up. It was an absolutely perfect breakfast! So many great choices on the easy to read menu. And coffee is included in your breakfast choice! Haven't seen that in years! The staff was super friendly, and very helpful. Friendly out of the way place where locals eat. We came here because the previous reviews had positive experiences here so why not. Only given breakfast menus although got there at noon. So breakfast it is. Got sausage gravy with biscuits and 2 eggs. Daughter had 2 eggs sausage home fries and wheat toast. So food was good and you could tell steady clientele come here but we weren't treated any differently. So it is worth the price to find this little gem. They are open til 3pm. read more

Unfortunately, my experience at this Diner was marred by overt racism. Despite being the only person of color in the establishment, I was blatantly ignored by all three waitresses. They actively avoided eye contact and refused to assist me, while promptly attending to white patrons who arrived after me. Even when I tried to get their attention, they positioned themselves in a way that made it clear they had no intention of serving me. This kind of discrimination has no place in any establishment, and it's disappointing that this diner failed to uphold basic standards of inclusivity and respect. One star since I cannot give zero. read more

This was a welcomed late-breakfast stop in Plattsburgh NY. Busy and a Spacious dinning environment brought us a really nice break from our drive with excellent service and a kitchen that knows how to make a memorable meal. Great coffee delicious food. You can find this place in Plattsburgh a bit out of the way - so glad we trusted the reviews and had lunch here. The service was like you don't get these days - even though we were not a local, they treat everyone as if they have known you for years. Get this - the food was so good. I had breakfast (serve all day) and my husband had lunch. We left feeling very satisfied to get back o the road to head south, wish we could visit more often. read more

We always look at where the locals eat. This is a breakfast and lunch only. We had breakfast with delicious chunked potatoes eggs and thick white toast. Simple but very well done. The service was excellent considering we were there the day of the solar eclipse. The decor was rustic mountain. Definitely a place we will visit when we return to the area. read more

The benefit of Yelp is that it makes you an immediate, local insider. We were driving through Plattsburgh around breakfast time and my friend George navigated us to the Hungry Bear because of the high ratings of fellow Yelpers. We arrived around 10 AM and found the dining area filled with locals. The service was fast and friendly. The coffee was excellent and the cup was bottomless. I had an excellent waffle with a crispy sausage patty, my friend, poached eggs and sausage that he gave a thumbs up. The locals must love the place because there were lots of them inside and there was a shelf with personal coffee cups. Very cool! If I was local, instead of 6 hours south, I would be a regular here. On a Friday morning in mid-September, we had a good breakfast at this charming neighborhood cafe. The place was bright and clean, service was friendly, and the food was well-prepared. A cozy bear-themed cabin diner, was busy with a local crowd. The servers were friendly, partaking in banter with their regulars. The Hungry Bear was the first restaurant we went to when moving to Plattsburgh. It is so cute on the inside. The food is always delicious and if it isn't, they will fix it. Timble is the best server. Get the Pancakes! Thick and deeply impressive! No idea how they get such flavor in them (and don't want to know, ha). The hungry bear scramble was good but not great. The food & service may be good if you're eating in but it's very disappointing to me that businesses have no regard for the materials they use and the environmental impact.

It's a family friendly establishment and I love their daily specials. On Fridays they have great steak and eggs with home fries and on Sundays they have Eggs Benedict! It's a small town, slice of heaven Sesame Street cozy place and it just makes Plattsburgh feel more like home. Love it here!

Grilled cheese was the highlight. Which tells the story of this place -- if you do try it -- order something they can't mess up. FWIW -- the ladies running this place were lovely! I stopped by Rove Cafe just after 1pm when the busy period was slowing down. I walk in and I could sit at anywhere I wanted to. I sat at a table near the counter and the server promptly arrived with a menu and took my drink order (ice water). I was trying to decide between the fish & chips, mixed berries French toast (a popular item) or the country fried steak with 2 eggs. I went with the latter and it was served to me in about 12 minutes. The big plate of food had soft scrambled eggs, grilled country potatoes, a buttery toasted English muffin (Smuckers jams at table), and a Large homemade lightly breaded & pounded thin grilled beefsteak smothered with a thick sausage gravy. This breakfast was so good and very filling. As I was finishing my food, the check was presented which was $14.58 with tax and before tip. Overall, a wonderful big breakfast plate and prompt service. I would definitely recommend if you happening to be passing through the Plattsburgh area.
