Jenn's Smoking Hot - Brisket Sandwich

I'm a big BBQ fan, my family an I enjoy smoking at home with different types of woodfired or pellet…read moregrills and love brisket. I've also tried various BBQ restaurants around Canada and the USA and have come to have a certain expection with smoked meats. When I heard about this place opening up I was excited to support a local business but the food and experience fell kind of short. We came on Saturday November 25, 2023 round noon and ordered a brisket sandwich and a pound of brisket by itself as well as mac and cheese for a side. The meat was bland, it was dry and completely brown - it didn't have a pink smoke ring or any bark to it, no seasoning or crispy bits on the outside. I had the impression the brisket was cooked in a regular oven and not a smoker since there was no smoke flavor to it. The sandwich doesn't come with anything, it's just plain meat slices slapped in between two slices of soft bread, not toasted or buttered or anything. You are to add your own sauce otherwise it's extremely boring. I asked to have onions added to it, I definitely think having other condiments, pickles, cheese or or a slaw would have elevated the experience. There were none of these offered on the menu. The mac and cheese is prepackaged which turned me off. After I ordered, I saw the employees behind the counter empty a plastic bag of it into a bin, which wasn't appetizing. Had I known this was not made from scratch, I wouldn't have chosen it. I think the overall vibe of the place is kind of depressing - there are no signs visible to the outside so unless you can read or walk straight infront of the window, you'd never see this joint. The inside is just bare bones and certainly doesn't have any fun atmosphere or vibe. This is a very casual lunch spot or take out option, I wouldn't recommend this as a place to sit down and hang out with family. There was just something lacking. Now what I did enjoy was the price point, portion and variety - there are many other items on the menu like ribs, sausage, turkey, burgers, salads and poutine. The other items might be very tasty, perhaps I just got a lousy serving of brisket that day but I'm not sure I'd be back if the rest of the food isn't fresh or made from scratch.

I gave this place 2 try's. The first time was actually better and I thought it was bad then. Inside is mediocre setting nothing fancy. Staff is not nice but they don't communicate as the person didn't even know about our order 8 minutes prior when we went back for our missing sauce. Much improvement needed before we try this place again that's for sure.

Nestled in the…read moreeveryday hum of the city, this spot slings food with a level of care and soul that punches way above its weight class. The loaded fries? A decadent, gluttonous, unapologetic mess of everything good in this world. Crispy, golden spuds acting as a stage for a heaping, chaotic mound of tender, spiced gyro meat, drizzled in a symphony of sauces--tangy, creamy, and just the right amount of heat to remind you you're alive. This isn't just bar food or late-night munchies. It's a masterclass in controlled indulgence. Each bite, a reminder that sometimes, the best meals aren't plated with tweezers but piled high with reckless abandon. You eat with your hands, sauce dripping down your wrist, and you don't care--because in this moment, nothing else matters. Gyro Hub doesn't need to be fancy. It just needs to be exactly what it is: damn good.

Delicious halal. Chicken is spicy, but not overly so. (Add some extra white sauce to mellow it out)…read moreThe star was the gyro meat though! Flavorful, tender, and not at all dry like gyro meat can sometimes be. The samosas were also very flavorful and just a bit spicy. Was surprised by the decor, in a good way. From the outside, it's a bland store front in a mostly dead strip mall, but inside was bright and welcoming with enough tables for a family or small group. A delightful addition to the Plattsburgh restaurant scene!
