Unsatisfactory overall for this visit. The waitress was new perhaps. She handed me a lunch menu but informed me lunch had now ended, gave me a different menu with higher prices. The green tea had a taste that was unpleasant. I have had green tea before but this was weak and bitter. I ordered medium rare teriyaki and waitress wrote " beef teriyaki" but forgot to write down the medium rare part . Soon after the order was placed the cook asked how it was supposed to be cooked. Someone said " medium". That is what I received medium. I told the waitress, she took the entire plate, of meat , rice and broccoli back. Returned with very rare beef teriyaki. I sent it back again and it came back correct. However, it had original vegetable and rice that were lukewarm. I think the cook was unhappy , that meal was returned several times. Later on that night , I felt stomach ache. I vomited up the entire meal and also had diarrhea. Maybe it is not food poisoning , but it sure felt like it was due to the timing. I googled it and those are the symptoms of food poisoning. I am hoping it is a stomach flu because Yamato has a good reputation. read more

I've been here a few times and the service is always been very good. Not sure what was going on this time. Seem like they had one waitress for the entire place and she was overwhelmed. The simple task of a large flask of sake with 2 cups with a flask was an effort in itself. It took four takes to do this and me getting up and asking for a 2nd cup to get it correct. Food was decent. The staff that served my friend and I were incredibly polite and knew their menu well when we asked questions about different items. & they were extremely accomodating; its what made part of the experience so great. I also loved the unique names each lunch special had, everything exceeded my expectations & I had such a great time. I ordered the Miso soup & the Monster roll. My friend got the Sweetheart roll. We shared the Beef Negimaki- which was my first time trying but it was amazing! WE have been getting food from Yamato for a while now, and I decided to try something different. Their California salad says it has crab, but when I get the salad it is fake crab, which is usually pressed together pollock with other ingredients. As far as I know, if it says crab, it has to be crab, or it's fraud. Also, in the rolls that I got, it also has the fake crab when they say otherwise on their menu. Not great! read more

Tonight was my first time visiting Yamato. It will not be my last. We started off with the spicy tartar, it was AMAZING! We got a mix of everything including the bento box, sushi, and hibachi meals. Yes it's a bit pricey but what sushi spot can you get rolls under $13 nowadays. The sushi is fresh and delicious! and service is always fast. I really enjoyed coming here despite it being in a disaster of a parking lot with many pot holes. I got sushi when I came here and it was awesome. They supply soy sauce as well which is a must. They also sell other food other than sushi in case that's not your thing. The service at this place wasn't bad at all. I ordered filet and scallop and it was relatively tasteless and dry. I suggest having water with dinner- the drinks add up. My wife ordered an ice tea ($5), my son a Boba tea ($8), and I ordered a Japanese soda ($6)- which was like an 8oz bottle. I've been for a quick lunch here many times since I moved to the area. I love the food so when my neighbor/friend's birthday came up and she wanted sushi it was the first place I thought of. The atmosphere is modern and clean. The staff is lovely and attentive without being overbearing. We are both light eaters and we only ordered the sashimi appetizer, the Yakimaki Roll and the Ocean King Roll. I called ahead and made a reservation and mentioned it was my friend's B'day. There's a generous amount of toppings, and I always end up stuffed by the end of it. Very delicious. When I'm looking for a snack I typically go for spicy crab roll and futo maki. Yamato Japan is absolutely the best sushi, hibachi, bento box, etc restaurant in Central MA. The staff is empathetic, courteous, and treat repeat customers like "family". The servers can remember your favorite order from the last visit, including drinks and meals. The owners (Joe & Annie) care about their patrons and will freely chat with you about your family and/or their own. They are dealing with Covid 19 restrictions as appropriate. We also ordered the hibachi steak fried rice (which did not have seasoning) the steak was plain with no flavor) so we were just ok but no big shakes.
