I don't know why it's being reported that this place is closed - it's definitely open! Hungry Club is probably my favorite dive bar in SF. It's nestled right near the corner of Columbus and Broadway, and is always full of interesting characters. Is it fancy or swanky? No, but that's not what it's aiming to be. The bartenders are the BEST, including Michelle, Carl, and Wayne. You can't go wrong with those guys. There's plenty of room to dance, sit at the bar, or grab a small table, plus there's a pool table. Manage your expectations going in, but if you're looking for a low-key place to listen to good music, drink, and talk to new people, you can't beat it. read more

If you can't tell by now, I really love going to strip clubs, I wouldn't say I am a connoisseur but I feel like the night isn't complete unless I see some ass & titties. My friends and I like to go after we go clubbing or to finish off the night, I wish more clubs in norcal were open till 4am, but you don't have many choices here asides from dna lounge or after hour places. I also wish that the drinking curfew would change from 2am to 4am, but apparently this will take up to 2021, which is way too long. I'll preface this review by saying that I'm from Las Vegas, stripper home base. But I'll try not to make this a compare and contrast. The operating word being "try". So we got juiced in because we knew someone that knew someone. The bouncers were friendly enough. And apparently the person we knew was a cocktail waitress. She was really friendly. But that didn't make better the fact that we were paying $6.75 for Coronas at the Lazy I. Oh, I mean Hungry I. The seating was kinda weird. As another review said, the seats immediately in front of the stage were like theater style and not very feng shui at all. Money-making was more directed to the stage rather than in the lap. Girls only had two-song sets. I liked that when girls approached me for a dance I didn't feel hustled. I dislike having to fend strippers off. Yeah, I have that effect on girls. The "back room" was on the way to the bathroom and hardly concealed. Our friend Sean went back to get a lap dance during the two-for-one special. Uh ... two-for-one could have so many different meanings in a strip club. But apparently it means two lapdances for the price of one. Oh, okay. But then we found out the whole time his girl was dancing, she didn't take her top off. That completely perplexes me. I give the quality of girls 2.5/ 5 stars. I thought it was cool that most of the girls had beautiful, natural tits. And bonus: several of the girls had awesome tats and one girl even had half-inch plugs. Friggin' hot. If you want to be "hustled" for drinks and dances, there are about a half dozen other North Beach strip clubs that will gladly accept your patronage. Do you remember hearing about Pink Diamonds in the San Francisco Chronicle and on the news for their notorious patrons? Assaults, robberies, shootings, and a murder or two? Well, I can't say I ever had the pleasure of visiting Pink Diamonds, but Hungry I will do plenty well. Thankfully, Hungry I doesn't face the problems that forced Pink Diamonds to close, but I have a feeling many of its customers were ex Pink Diamond patrons. The club is marketed toward the mid-twenties crowd with its hip-hop soundtrack, ethnic girls, and anything goes attitude. Cover can range from free to $20, depending on your luck. The club itself is one of the smaller Broadway clubs, but packs full houses on weekends. The club is rectangularly shaped and the bar is immediately to your right after going through the velvet curtain. The bar can only accommodate about ten patrons, which slows things up on busy nights. Hungry I has plenty of nightly drink specials and prices can range from $5-10 for a beer or mixed drink. The bartenders are always courteous and work steadily fast to get your drinks. And directly across from the bar are booths reserved for lap dances. Lap dances begin at $20 and can reach $100 for VIP. The decor is very burlesque with its velvet red curtains, antique nude paintings, etc. The decor is something out of a Wild Wild West nude saloon. The stage setup is somewhat unique as seating is not your typical tables and plush seats. Instead, the club has something similar to school desks, which lets you rest your drink on one side. There's about three rows of "desks" and the last row is cushioned seating that wraps around the whole room. The setup is strange but works well as long as you can find somewhere to sit. The talent can vary accordingly, but you can always count on a pot of mixed races ranging from black, white, Hispanic, Asian, and Filipino. In all honestly, black girls are more abundant at this club than others. As a result, you can always find yourself some "ballers" throwing stacks of dollars, making it rain, and dancing with the girls on stage. The novelty is funny at first, but begins to wear thin as they block your view of the stage. Management and staff rarely do anything to control the rowdy customers. Hungry I is a club that falls in the middle - it's not bad, nor is it great. The club has you thinking if you're watching a rap video being made or at a San Francisco Gentlemen's Club. Management is laid back, the bar is decent, and so is the eye candy. My advice: throw a few dollars on stage, have a shot, and get some real lap dances elsewhere. read more

I'm super picky about strip clubs, because let's be real, most of them are either skeezy (especially if you're a woman), depressing (EXTRA especially if you're a woman), or so fake-plastic-yuppycentric that there's nothing fun or sexy about any of it. But I like this place. The vibe and the decor are pretty nice, drinks are decent, the clientele is the kind of nice blend that tells you the place isn't too bougie and the security staff doesn't let anyone get away with any stupid shit. I've never been the only woman in the crowd the few times I've been, and it isn't all women with their boyfriends, either, there tend to be some queer ladies in the house. Mostly what I like, though, is that there's some real personality to the dancers, some actual body and style diversity, and that they look and act like real women (which is sexy), not a 19-year-old dude's idea of women (which is weird and not sexy). Sure, they're still working and in character and putting on a show, let's not get confused, these ladies are professionals trying to earn a living. But they're cool. And some of them have some SKILLS on the pole, I was seriously impressed. Lap dances were reasonably priced and friendly. Ultimately, this is one of the few places in the Bay Area in general where I'm confident I'll feel comfortable and have a good time when I feel like hitting up a strip club. I mean...I'm not really someone who frequents strip joints, so I guess my previous experience comes from watching "The Sopranos." This place is no Bada Bing!, that's for sure. On the plus side, our group of five ladies got in for free. Also, I agree with Yelpers who say that the girls here don't seem to be that surgically enhanced. The main drawback was all the gross men in the audience, but I suppose that's generally what you get if you come to a strip club. There was a gross Indian Uncle type guy making eyes at me (and standing directly in front of the stage, thus blocking everyone's view). Four stars? Yes, four stars. I would spend money at this club again for the simple fact that the manager hooked us up. It was a typical drink at the 23 Club and spend the rest of our money at Little Darlings night. We were walking up Broadway, trying to figure out where to stop by first because Kim #1 needed to use a bathroom and Kim #2 needed another shot of Jameson. I pulled out my two free passes for The Condor and suggested that they use the passes to do what they need to do and we would wait for them outside. I'm not sure how loud we were talking but the Hungry I manager ran up to us and offered all five of us free entrance into Hungry I and he said he would walk us over to Little Darlings and get all of us in for free there too. Although he ended up getting another employee to walk us to LD's, he kept his word. Hungry I looks better now that the front area isn't under construction anymore. One drink minimum and they make em strong. I like that they have separate men's and women's restrooms, although it felt a little awkward being right next to the dancers' dressing room. Can't say much about the crowd or the dancers since we didn't stay too long but all in all, it was a four-star visit. read more

If you like excellent pole dancing, girls with personality, and very strong drinks, this is definitely the place for you. Amusingly, the only women's restroom is the one the dancers use, so if you're a girl you might get a little bit of a back stage pass. Had the much anticipated return trip to the Hungry I last night, and it was as awesomely bad as I had been hoping it would be. We discussed the history of the club having appeared in several movies (Dirty Harry & Enter the Dragon are the 2 most notable) as well as the origin of the name - the "I" in Hungry I stands for Intellectual. From here on out I'm pretty sure that I will just refer to it as The Intellectual. Once we settled into the 2 best seats in the place we enjoyed a variety of dancers. The first was pretty bad but their were a couple nuggets in the mix. Nothing to write home about, but a few of them were easy on the eyes. One great thing about The Intellectual is the dance specials they offer. I took advantage of a nice 2-for-1 deal as well as my favorite - a 2-for-$30 PLUS a free porn DVD!! I literally ran over to the DJ when he announced it and told him I was in. And I thoroughly enjoyed my new copy of "Nympho" when I got home. One last thing to mention...I did finally get a look at The Champagne Room, and let me tell you - I've seen prison cells that have more ambiance. Yo this my one club I always frequent on Broadway. I brought my friend in today a Sunday night, her first time to a strip club ever! I paid 34$ for 1 round of drinks and stayed for 30 min. The whole time there was not one girl on stage. I asked the apparent new manager if any dancers were working, he said 2 girls were working. I said we paid full price for drinks understanding the price is high due to entertainment and there are no girls dancing. We were the ONLY 2 paying customers in the WHOLE place for the half hour mind you! He replied "that's the price, what do u want me to do?" I said get someone to go on stage? The answer I received was " their independent contractors and they dance when they want to". This is the new head MANAGER!!!!!!!! There is nobody but us 2 in there for 30 min with nobody dancing!!! The door men and bartender are the only ones working! He asked what he wanted me to do and I said maybe give us another round on the house and get someone to dance AND HE SAID NO! I guess the new management does not care about regular customers or making money. And we paid cover to get in! Even though it was 5$ it's the point! Hungry I used to be my go-to spot in SF. It's a relatively chill place, entertainers nice and many of them actually know how to dance, good view of the stage even from the bar (and a full bar at that!). Dances predictably priced, especially compared to the past neighbors. One downside is the standard lap dance space is cramped and dark. Though with some change over in management and some hot new dancers next door, I'm afraid the competition have won out. After I left my card was charged three times, for ~$1200, $2400, and ~$3000. I followed up with Chase as fradulent charges and Hungry I ended up sending them receipts which had my signature forged. I went back twice to the establishment to bring up the concerns, and the Hungry I staff was not helpful in person. Managers Ruben and Anthony tried to pass it off as over their head, and I spent 3 hours waiting to meet with Harley who never came down. Absolutely terrible experience and this place should be put out of business for borderline illegal practices (forging signature on receipts is fraud). read more

Went here for my birthday with wife and friends. I'm used to the east coast establishments so this one was really small. Although being rather small gives it an intimate appeal. We bought a bottle and let the good times roll. Although the girls are not 10s they were all at the very least cute. My opinion is probably bias because i went inside of hungry i probably like 20+ times already and its addictive lol.. girls + lapdances + dolla bills + alcohol = good night. Pros: Space is decent, depending on what day you go. usually busy on thurs-sat. so its packed like a sardine in there. Pretty girls, (but i cater to this one chick with dreads). If you see blue lights flickering (its 2-1 dance) YEE! Love the bartenders/waitresses. First time here, brought my girl for her first gentleman's club experience. Big mistake. Bartenders had no interest in serving patrons, waited 20 minutes at a bar that wasn't even busy. Some greasy haired dancer offered to get the drinks, if I bought her one... Fair enough. Except she charged my card, and never brought the drinks. Kept saying "the bar is backed up"... Yeah right. What the hell happened to this place. When I work out of town this place use to be my favortie place to go when I went to the city. It wasnt just a club, it was going to see friends. 8 years of very fond memories of amazing nights there. But after last night I dont think I will ever go back. The girls were incredibly pushy and wouldn't take the first, second, third, or even fourth no thank you for an answer. Even when I chose to indulge myself, a dance for half a song cost me $80. I came here on a Friday with a few friends. The place wasn't what I expected.. There was about 5 or 6 people here at 11:00pm. The drinks are over priced and not worth it, I ordered a patron margarita for $13.50 which tasted like straight lemonade. Asked the bartender for a martini which also was a bad idea. I politely told her I didn't care for the drink. Anyway make a long story short, a nice gentleman offered to buy me a drink and I was told by the manager Greg he couldn't serve me any alcohol unless the gentleman paid for the two drinks I had prior. He had his nerve!! I never had anyone tell me they couldn't serve me alcohol.. All because I didn't like the drinks. I won't be back to this place!! read more
