I've enjoyed Hunky's many times, but tonight was not good. 1) On the Uber Eats ordering interface, the verbiage states, "Removals" for condiments on the burger, which I ticked off the things I did NOT want. Well, those are the things that were ON the sandwich! 2) In order to reach the minimum to take advantage of a discount with Uber Eats, I ordered fried mushrooms and a small order of fries. They both came lukewarm, barely warmer than room temperature. I'm very disappointed in my meal and will not order delivery from Hunky's again nor will I use Uber Eats again, no matter the incentives on the price. read more

This used to be my go to for a good burger, onion rings and fries mushrooms. Unfortunately that changed when I ordered delivery today. I ordered my burger mid-rare, it was literally charred to the point that the edges were so hard I couldn't chew them. The onion rings were not crispy at all but rather they were puffy, soft and chewy and the fried mushrooms were the same..., soft and chewy. Puffy is great for pastries but not for onions and mushrooms. A real disappointment. I hope this was just a fluke because if this is the best they have now, they won't last much longer. Such a great spot for a classic diner meal near Dallas Love Field. I think I come here every time I am in Dallas. All of their burgers are great, but make sure to get the fried zucchini as well! They have a huge assortment of burgers, shakes, cakes, desserts, and sides. There is a great big patio with bench tables for when it is nice outside. It's also fun to sit there and people watch when it is busy outside. I love the retro diner feel, it makes it fun to eat there. DANG this was a good burger. I am hard to impress when it comes to a burger. I don't like the prissy hipster burgers, but I don't want McDonalds. This was the perfect in between. Just enough variation to the burgers that it was borderline hipster with great flavor. I ordered the Texas cheeseburger and it was a great combination of cheesy, bacony and juicy. They used a thicker cut bacon so you really got the smokiness from it. There was cheese at basically every layer, and they used texas toast instead of a bun. That plus fries was $8. BOOM. You just can't beat that. Husband ordered a chili dog and wasn't impressed, but he ordered a hot dog at a hamburger place so I have little sympathy. Service was friendly, and even though it's not waiter service, at least 3 people came by to check on us during our meal. I will definitely be back!! read more

Looking for a huge juicy burger for almost the same price as a drive thru? You must stop by Hunky's. While I'm not sure where the name comes from but they really give you a huge "hunk" of meat on your burger and every bite is delicious. This place is similar to an old fashion burger joint with a modern twist. You can either build your own burger or choose one on their menu. They also have tater tots and fries (they will make cheese fries if you make a special request) as well as milk shakes and cakes. I still haven't ever had room left to try the cake but they all look yummy. Hunky's is in my top 5 local burger joints in Dallas. The service is really great when it's not a place that you have a true server. You order at the front and choose you seat but they come around several times and refill you drink or bring you whatever you might need. The location is clean and brightly lit. The location is right off Cedar Springs so there is plenty of people watching and you will probably make a new friend or two if you are dining in. They also make orders to go and take call in orders. I highly recommend you trying Hunky's if you are in the area, you can't be the price or the service. read more

Like Courtney, I went on a diet. A diet that says you must consume as much grease, sugar and cheese as physically possible. Some people might call it the "hangover diet." It took me a few minutes of staring at the menu before I finally settled on the hickory barbeque burger. Something about slathering sauce all over my meat made me REAL hungry (TWSS), and of course no burger grease is complete without a side of fresh fried onion rings. And a chocolate milkshake. Total calories of this meal? Probably close to 2500 or somewhere in that range. Total happiness points in my book? Yeah, it's a fair trade. The meat patty was old-school, thin and cooked just right. The toppings were fresh, although I could have used more sauce. The onion rings were GIANT and I watched her make them so I know they were super fresh. My only complaint is that there was a little too much batter on them, but perhaps that's their schtick. The milkshake was the best part. Creamy, milky and smooth...and REALLY chocolately. I had to share it though which kinda bummed me out...it made me feel bad after BF said, "You really don't need that whole thing, do you?" YES. Yes I do. Overall, I like my new diet. Cute little burger shop in Dallas' Gayborhood sporting the 1950's look. I love the checkered pattern. I didn't necessarily love the food. I expected the burger to be stellar, given the name of the joint and all. It was just ok for me. Chopped lettuce and diced onion serve no true purpose on a burger. They are just a irritating mess. The patty was plain and seriously screamed for some flavor. My hot dog was another big disappointment. Seriously! WTF are they doing to the wiener. They split the wiener and put horseradish and onion in it. No, no, no, no, no!! This did not go well at all!! I just don't understand why so many places insist on butterflying the wiener on a dog!! Can't I just have a normal, all American hot dog? Apparently not here at Hunky's. They have a corny dog on the menu that claims to be just like the one's at the State Fair. Since I've been in Dallas I have been trying to find those humongous Fletcher dogs that you have to deep throat in order to eat. I was expecting to find that here. I mean the sign does say "Like the one's at the State Fair". I was disappointed with the size, but, it was a pretty damn tasty corn dog. So, they satisfied my corn dog fix. And at the time of this review, they are sporting one mean ass corny dog!! My grilled cheese was another let down. Boring and too dry. The grilled cheese here would work well with a bowl of tomato soup. The perfect dip. Instead, I had to rely on ketchup. When I ordered the grilled cheese I attempted to hype it up a bit, but, I was unsuccessful. I asked the friendly (always friendly) dude taking my order if I could get chives added to it. He gave me a blank stare and asked me what chives were. I just let it be. Took it the way they offered, and, left disappointed. The patty melt was the best sandwich that I had there. Not too greasy, and, sported some decent flavor. The fries were nice and crisp, the way that I like them. The tots were another winner. Perfect crunch. I couldn't stop eating them. As for the hand battered onion rings? I've certainly had better. The batter was greasy, and, lacked of any flavor. It gave no life at all to the onions. Seriously, I couldn't tell the difference between fresh or frozen? Overall the place is just ok. I never tried any of the malts or shakes, so can't tell you about them. Super friendly staff. Let me start this review with a little tidbit of info you might just thank me for: Every wednesday, $2.50 ALL beers, to help you get over the middle of the work week! That's a pretty good deal, and I was happy to take advantage of it :D The place itself is spacious with lots of seating, the service is fantastic with friendly and smiling cashier (person with whom I placed my order) and waiters, and the food is heavenly! Their selling point is that everything is fresh and the meat is prepared on location.... I ordered the Texas cheeseburger, and let me tell you, you can TASTE the freshness! Seriously, this is the only double patty (1/4 pound each) cheeseburger after which i can't stop thinking about how fresh the tomato and lettuce were, and only afterwards how incredibly juicy, tasty, non-fatty/not heavy the meat and the whole sandwich was! My vice is onion rings, I had read on yelp that they were phenomenal, so i switched my fries to an order of those, and they were DELICIOUS!! Best onion rings i've had, hands down! Went next door to ES collection after my fitting and this cool burger joint was there. They have awesome food and decent prices. The environment was chilled and the people were really nice. I like the way the employees are able you to dress and express themselves. The only thing was their menu on a dry erase board was a little difficult to read and is subject to accidental smears. Hunky's is a good, straightforward (gayforward? :) ) burger joint that rarely disappoints. My chili cheeseburger had just the right amount of chili and was cooked to perfection. Fried mozzarella was pretty typical food service fare, but cooked well. They're served with ranch dressing, which is a bit bizarre in my book. Fries are previously frozen, but still taste good and weren't greasy at all. Maybe it's not the place you drive for miles to go to, but if you're in the neighborhood (like we were before Gaybingo today), it's a great place to have a burger. read more

The Texas Cheeseburger is probably the best you can get, and I must have caught them on a good day because the cheese was melty and bacon crispy. My friends and I have driven by Hunky's and always wanted to try it! We finally gave in on a Thursday night after taking our dog to the park. We walked in and the manager warmly greeted us and went straight into his introduction about the restaurant! It's been around for 30 years and they're known for fresh ingredients, fried mushrooms, onion rings, and milk shakes. We were going to order our food to go until he mentioned their patio welcomes dogs and their waiters are trained to provide dogs water! So sweet so we decided to stay. Fried pickles: tasty when they cool down! Be careful when you first bite into it because it's fresh and hot from the fryer. Salmon burger: the salmon was very moist (and the manager suggested serving the wasabi sauce on the side). I opted for fruit as a side but he recommended that I try the tots! I was very satisfied with my meal. The wasabi sauce paired nicely with the salmon and it wasn't too spicy. Onion rings: were the bomb! The batter was very unique. I've been to many burger places in town that friends tell me have the best hamburger in Dallas. Been to rodeo goat, twisted root, hopdoddies, Maple and motor, etc. I was a little disappointed with all of them because i felt they did not live up to the hype. Although on a sidenote, hopdoddies has an ahi tuna burger which is fantastic. That being said, hunky's is the best in town. My second fav would have to be Katy Trail icehouse. Third would be blues burger. Honorable mention goes to Jake's uptown. Tried this spot on a Saturday afternoon after giving up on finding parking in Deep Ellum. I ordered the Bacon Burger, Tots, chocolate milkshake, and butter chocolate cake. The food was just ok. Meat was under seasoned, bacon was flimsy, bun was crumbly and didn't hold the burger together well. The tots were too crispy and looked old? The milkshake was just meh and the cake was moist with good flavor but a TON of frosting, I scraped off at least a inch. I ordered from this location for lunch 2 weeks ago. Myself and another coworker ordered the hamburger special. My burger only had mustard and was undercooked, still raw in the middle. Needless to say, I got sick from this horrible food. Whoever is the cook should be retrained or fired for sending out under cooked food. I have mixed feelings about this place. The good was pretty good. I saw pics and my mouth watered so I went to pick up some food with my hubby and my son. The staff was super friendly, although a bit slow. The cooks had a bad Attitude but who cares. (Although they are probably the ones you don't wanna piss off) We went on 4th of July, and maybe that wasn't the best day to go because the place was FILLED with drunk people. There was a threesome in front of us in line that were touching each other inappropriately for any public setting and it all just seemed so unhygienic. All the drunks got so bad that I actually felt uncomfortable being there with my son. I don't know if it's just the nature of the neighborhood or just that it was 4th of July but not the kind of place I wanna be in when you're with the fam. Maybe that was my bad!
