Very nice encounter with a family owned dealership, Got a new Forrester hybrid and traded in my Nissan Armada, First off , love the new Forrester. Loved the Armada but needed a better gas milage etc. Found Hunter team to be fair and upfront without any games usual dealerships play. When a dealership is operated by the owner whose name is on the sign outside of the dealership , you can bet on integrity and a fair shake. From start to completion of process of buying a new car and trading in old one , doing all of the tag and tax business, count me in . So disappointed. Was going to buy a used Crosstrek. It looked good. Drove great. They said they did their multipoint inspection, including changing the oil. Took the car home overnight and to my auto mechanic to check it out the next day. He put it on the lift. It was extremely rusted out underneath. Never saw so much rust. Would've been a nightmare if anything needed to be replaced or repaired under there. I took it back. Told the saleswoman. Someone knew this about the car because if they changed the oil and did their inspection like they said they did they would've seen the extent of the rust. Saleswoman wanted to show me another car. (She was very personable.) But now I don't trust them. And it looks like that car is still on the lot. Buyer beware and if you are looking at a used car there be SURE to have your mechanic check it out before you buy it. The warranty was 1,000 miles or 30 days, powertrain only, so I would've been up s***s creek and out all the money I have to buy a car. read more

I have a 2017 Outback that has all of its service done thru Subaru dealerships. I just had my 90000 mile service done at Hunter and told them that I wanted the battery checked (2nd battery in 2 1/2 yrs) because the battery went dead after not using car for awhile also had corrosion on the battery terminals. Subaru issued a recall for this issue which the Hunter dealership supposedly did again because they said the other dealership had not done it.. the long and short of it is the car needs a new battery after just 2.5 years and they want to charge for a new one.. even though this is a known issue with parasitic drain of the battery due to a Subaru software problem.. I was given the number for Subaru corporate to call to see if they would cover the cost of the battery.. I spent over $750.00 on 90000 service remmed out the service mgr and left very frustrated/angry because they won't step up and replace the damaged battery that occurred because of a known software issue that drains the charge. At this point screw Subaru ..I'll buy my Battery at Costco.. their warranty is much better !! read more

Found out she doesn't work there, works off-site getting internet business. And the car is SOLD. Tries to get me to look at another vehicle. Clearly this was intentional. I took my 2013 Subaru outback to Hunter Subarus service department after it began lurching and the check engine light came on. I did expect that it could be a costly repair but never expected what they came up with. I received a detailed report within a couple days claiming my car needed over 9000 dollars in repairs. This ranged from a new catalytic converter to a supposedly leaking cam seal/valve cover gasket and a full fluid service. The tech claimed the engine was so dirty due to leaking oil that they would need to clean the entire engine. This would outweigh the cost of the car and they valued the trade in at 800 dollars. I realized I needed a second opinion and took the car to a trusted Subaru specialist locally. Upon inspecting the vehicle he found that the cam seal and valve cover gasket were not leaking at all. The spark plugs had never been changed and had caused misfires. A simple spark plug change and fluid service had the car running like new with no codes or check engine light. Hunter Subaru would have had me sell this car, which is in good condition and purchased for 11000 dollars, for less than 1000 and purchase a new car from them on the grounds that it was nearly mechanically totaled. Beware of this dealership and their service department, seek a second opinion in the case of proclaimed costly services. read more

Well I see they haven't improved since my experience with them in 2023.Needed an air conditioner hose replaced-was informed it would have to be ordered and hard to get as my subaru forester was a 2011 and parts were hard to get for it.I though 90% of subarus were still on the road after 10 years-per one of their commercials a while ago.Nobody seemed to know when the part would be in -or where it was coming from.Ontario I was told.One person said Ontario,California another Canada.I finally went down there and made a bit of a scene-told them they were so inefficient they should be a government agency.A while later the service manager calls me to tell me the part came in,but he would be sending it back as I was rude and mean to the staff.Oh grow up. read more

I bought my Crosstrek from them in 2021 and so far it has been great! I was not use to all the electric upgrades the newer cars have now and Subaru staff gave me the opportunity for me to bring my car back so they could re-teach me about all the electronic hands free gadgets even though I had already bought the car. I bring my Crosstrek back to them for services and inspections and staff are always friendly and helpful. they send me a video each time explaining what the mechanic is doing and seeing in my car as they are working on it. Staff from Subaru Hunter called me on my birthday just to wish me a happy birthday! never in my life have I heard of a car dealership do this before, it was so sweet! read more

After months of looking for a Crosstrek in my budget and planning out a trip to Asheville to look at a few (it was a 3:30 hour drive from my college). I made the long trip, to come up what I thought would be empty handed, my last attempted to look at cars was to call Hunter Subaru about a 15 minute drive south, so I gave them a call and was told that they has 2 cars that may be out of my budget but was assured that they would be worth looking at. So I went to the dealership and was met by some super nice staff, My sales person was Jordan C. Who was able to get the price down to something I could afford and helped with everything along the way. I went on my trip to view cars with the intention of getting a 2015 or 2016 Crosstrek, but in the end I now have a 2017 Crosstrek Premium. The car was not ready for me to take home the day I viewed it, so Hunter Subaru and their staff scheduled to have drivers meet me with the car at the Tennessee Kentucky border. This process went super smooth and saved me a lot of stress. The drivers were also amazing and kind. It was such a relief to work with people that genuinely cared and wanted to send me home with a safe and reliable vehicle. I have procrastinated on writing this until today where I found a couple more issues that Hunter missed on my car while they had it for 8 months. Randy Hunter himself that he was my primary source of contact while going through this. I ended up getting ignored by the owner himself. Hunter is far from the hometown promise. They very much over promise, and under deliver. I dropped my car off at the collision center on January 20, 2022 and didn't receive my car until October 01, 2022. My repair was extensive work, but the lack of attention to detail is what has lead to this poor review. If I could leave no stars I would, the only star there is for Jhon the service advisor who was extremely helpful in getting my car somewhat done. I have always worked for local businesses and like to support local businesses. This is one business I recommend steering clear of. read more

And I can honestly say that Hunter Subaru has the BEST Sales and service teams of any Subaru dealership. Hunter Subaru genuinely wants to please the customer. Their Service department is second to none! Jhon Salguero has been my service advisor on 3 separate occasions. He and his team seem to know Subarus inside out. All maintenance and warranty issues were addressed and fixed like new. Mark, was one of the mechanics who worked on my 2024 Outback Touring XT three times. I was involved in an accident in April 2023. My car was originally in the shop at Hunter Collision Center for 3 months. when I picked it up, there were still obvious signs that the car had been in an accident (improper door alignment, gaps around the fender, improperly fitting inner fender, and a dent in the hood, just to name a few). Here we are 11 months later and Hunter Collision has yet again dropped the ball. My hood still doesn't fit properly and there are still fender and door adjustments that need to be made. I've spoken to Patrick (who's no longer there), then Jose (who replaced Patrick), then their manager Jeff. Even Jeff doesn't seem to take action until I make a 2nd or even 3rd phone call. It's like holding hands with a toddler. I'll be happy to upgrade my review after they've completed my work. But as of this moment, I'm not a happy customer and I wouldn't recommend Hunter Collision Center. read more

Results were not good as they made very little effort to sell me a car. Credit or no credit they didn't give me a chance. Worse auto service experience of my life! All the previous horror stories are correct. It's too much to detail without Woody Allen's editorial staff or something. Basically, a broken sunroof was not a simple fix. We're talking just the glass, not a roll-over that crushed the entire car top. Parts were ordered, insurance estimates were lost in the three feet between the service supervisor and the service manager's desks. Calls were never returned in a timely manner. Bottom line; three WEEKS and price adjustment from $2900 to $2100 due to authorized used parts not being used as directed. Since I didn't need gas, a free oil change was done and we have coupons for several car washes. That will be the ONLY time I ever go near the place again. I had trouble buying the car there; trouble getting an air-bag recall accomplished; then THIS little waltz through car service HELL! read more

The miscommunication was resolved and everything got back on track.*** I really wanted to love Hunter Subaru, I really did. I think it's important to "buy local" and so I did. The sales staff was easy to deal with - no problem there - but the service AFTER the sale leaves a lot to be desired. I bought a used Subaru with some bumper damage. As part of the sale, I was promised a new bumper. That was over 3 week ago. I have made 3 phone calls since then and showed up for an appointment only to find out the part was never ordered. I did not buy my new Subaru Outback at Hunter but that is where I go for service and my experience has been 100% great. And for me the good news is that they've moved to Asheville, well, Fletcher really. But in the South Ashville area and so much closer now. During the pandemic I've had my car in twice; once for a recall issue which was resolved immediately, and once for service. For this last service I had my pick of days and times. Also, both times they came to my house to pick up the car and brought is back in a timely manner, washed and sanitized. I was in the area on vacation when the Check Engine light came on in my Subaru. This was the nearest Subaru dealer... approximately 30 minutes away. I called in the afternoon and was told that there were not any appointments available the next day. They said if I stopped in they would probably be able to have one of their Service Advisors take a look. My concern was making a return trip to Ohio at the end of the week. The Service Advisor (Dolores) was able to get my information entered into their system and they took the car to the repair area. We waited in their very comfortable waiting area but only for about 15 minutes. They returned to tell us the it was just an "evap leak", they were able to reset the system and the car was fine to go. I called about a car I found online, spoke with a saleswoman, decided to that I would buy the car, she made us an appointment to meet with a manager "because we are trying to make every effort to reach out to the community at this time", told her we had a 1 &1/2 drive to get there, said that was fine, we even got a text reminder of our appointment as we were in our way. After towing my vehicle to Hunter Subaru I was given a cost of $1600 instead of the $275 I was quoted. Update on my experience at Hunter Subaru and why they are no longer my service provider. I've use Hunter for quite awhile now and even though I know a dealer will be more than independent auto maintenance places I liked going to a dealer because they should know the cars they sell more than someone else. Well it was time for an oil change so I made an appointment and took it in. One of my tire air sensors went bad and I was going to have them change it for a new one. Before I went in for service I checked on the cost of air sensors for my Outback. They ranged from $35 to $50.00 for a set of 4. To change one of these sensors involves removing the tire, breaking the bead, take out old sensor and replace with new sensor, and fill and remount tire. Well when the service rep came back with a price on the new sensor I was quoted ( for 1 sensor) $120.00 and another $120.00 for Labor, total $240.00. This is ridiculous 4 sensors only cost $50.00 or less and the change out is nothing. I asked if I changed all four would it be $960.00, four times as much as doing one. The rep looked me in the eye and said yep. Those four 24k gold sensors cost more than a complete new set of tires. I felt I was getting price gouged and especially being a longtime customer I felt this was way out of line. Hunter Subaru will no longer be my service provider. read more

My partner and I took our Subaru in to have the battery replaced a few months ago and that went fine no problems, but before they told us the total and what time we could come pick it back up - they kept trying to sell us on stuff that we didn't need. After declining multiple times, they continued pushing it on us. We decided to give them one more chance when our car needed an oil change and the low beam bulbs replaced. They weren't transparent over the phone, but instead sent a link about what repairs can be done. The link showed a bill of $1000, for stuff we didn't ask for! My partner had to call again and reiterate that we only wanted an oil change and the bulbs replaced. They took all day on the car to top it all off. Will not be coming back. read more

If I could give Hunter Subaru a -100 rating I would. I have never seen a more incompetent place of business in my life. The absolute worst experience I have had with any automotive related business in my lifetime. Bought a loaded 2014 Outback in pristine condition at Sky Autohaus in Weaverville (which is awesome by the way. Go there and buy a slightly used Subaru instead of anything at Hunter). Unfortunately the car got rear ended on May 21, 2019. Immediately had it towed to Hunter. I figured a Subaru dealer would be the right place to have body work done on a Subaru. BOY WAS I WRONG. I was told repairs would take approximately 2 weeks. I didn't believe them but they said I heard them correctly, 2 weeks. 29 days later I was told the car was ready. They said to bring my rental car to the dealership and that they would take care of returning my rental car since repairs took so long. Two weeks later my credit card was charged $300 by the rental car company for the 14 days exceeding the 30 days my insurance paid for. Hunter never returned the car to the rental company. It sat on their lot for TWO WEEKS and nobody did anything with it! It was like the place was ran by a bunch on 9 year olds. Making matters worse, within those two weeks when I finally got the car back, I immediately began writing the punch list of things they missed. 14 items later (including pin holed paint, missing fasteners, misaligned tailgate, a loose tail light, scratches from the mechanic's screwdriver, and 4 damaged parts that were completely ignored and not replaced. A bike rack was also damaged, they ordered one that didn't even fit the car. I called them and gave them the punch list. They said to bring it in and they would give me a loaner comparable to my Outback. NOPE. They sent me up the street to Enterprise where I was given a Hyundai Accent. A decent automobile but about half the size of our Outback and a base model. But they stated it's not a huge inconvenience, it would only be a week at most before I got my car back. I did not believe them. FIVE weeks later we got the car back. There are still pin holes in multiple locations and window trim is loose. Will I take it back to them? HELL NO. I would rather take my car to a repair facility that can actually do their job and pay out of my own pocket than deal with Hunter Subaru EVER again. I have never seen a more incompetent place of business in my life. read more

TRADE INS BEWARE! Something has changed. This used to be the go to dealership for me and my family. I've bought two cars here and thought about a 3rd. I will not make that mistake again. They have low balled me on every trade in. They used to be very willing to sit down and play with numbers. Now, they low ball you so hard on a trade in, it makes a deal impossible. This dealership thinks they're doing business in the past. Not only does the "showroom" look like Mike Brady designed it, but they follow the old playbook of the salesman going to the manager and then coming back and offering a price. They are also very pushy and use high pressure tactics. Just one look at their insipid commercials and you know that you aren't dealing with intelligent life here. What's with the niece walking around with her hand constantly on her hip - as though it has been super-glued there? And don't get me started with the corny "Where you come first" spastic looking bizarre cheer they punctuate each commercial with. You know you're dealing with a low class organization when they have life-sized cardboard cutouts of Randy Hunter stuck throughout the showroom. It was as laughable as it was bizarre. That being said, I went to Hunter to see about purchasing a new Outback Touring model. They were supposed to have one on the lot. The salesman we met showed us a loaded Limited model and said the Touring had been sold immediately upon hitting the lot. We wanted to see what a Limited was like so we took it for a test drive. I hate that this is a dealership where the salesman comes along with you for the test drive. They don't do that at Jim Barkley Toyota. I've been tossed the keys for $46,000 Highlanders and allowed to leave the lot for up to 15 minutes. Having a salesman in the car on the test drive is annoying and distracting. I can never get a sense of how I would connect with the car with a cheesy salesman making his continual pitch and talking AT me while I'm trying to drive. That being said, we were clear that we were in the market for a Touring model. so when we returned to the lot, the salesman actually said "So what do I have to do to be sure that you leave with one of these cars today?" Really! What year is it? 1985? I had inquired online about the Touring model and received a call from a salesman about it. When I asked what their price would be (the discount from the MSPR), the salesman said they could not discount the car one single dollar because there was such a demand for this model. Really? They weren't willing to come down off of the MSRP at all. I guess this dealership deals with people with poor credit or that live in some strange backwoods part of the world where the internet doesn't exist. Not only did I find that they were the only dealership to insist that they couldn't budge on the price, but I found it for $2000 off the MSRP from a dealership in Greenville, SC. Since I made the mistake of attempting to find the Hunter Subaru "Best Price" online, I've received harassing phone calls on my cell and junk email non-stop. This place is a joke. Walk onto the car lot and you can step back in time without having to get your Delorean up to 88mph. This place is a throwback in the worst possible way. read more

Walked into the dealership to see if I could test drive either one or both toyotas they had on the lot. When I initially arrived there was absolutely no one in the lobby to greet me. Maybe the receptionist was off that day. Anyway, I walked around until I found a young man and asked him if he could help. Ofcourse, he abliged. Before going out to look at the cars he took all of my information to put in the computer to flood me with solicitations for a later date. One of the vehicles that I was interested in was already out on a test drive with someone else, so we looked at another car. I immediately noticed that the interior of the car was covered in some sort of fine debris. He suggested it was dust or even sand from the beach. It was more like the car had been in a mechanical workshop. Anyway, before I left I asked him to have a quote for me when I returned for my trade in. I also told him not to give me the quick cash price as I wasn't interested in that. My car was in excellent condition. I know that is rare, but in this case it was true. On the test drive I noticed a few things that I had questions about. We had the car for more than an hour. I took it to my husband's work for him to see it as well. When I returned, I sat outside and the salesman came up to ask me how the ride was. I questioned him about my concerns. They were quickly dismissed as if I knew nothing about cars. Oh okay..... I asked about the quote for my car, but he didn't have it ready. I wasn't sure what he had been doing for the last few hours bc I asked for it to be ready. He then asked if I wanted to drive the 2nd car. Hmmmm, that doesn't have anything to do with my trade in. Therefore, I asked for my keys. I wasn't in the mood for the games. He said it would take only 30 sec to get it. Five min pass, and I go inside for my keys. He has the offer. Sure enough, it is lower than the quick cash offer on kbb. I had seen enough and I asked for my keys again. At this point the manager returns. He explains to me that there were a few things keeping my car from being in excellent condition. I couldn't wait for him to enlighten me. He said there were some scratches on the keypad to get into the car. WHATEVER. Give me a break. I dont even use that feature in the car, I never have. Then he said that he would have to change all the tires on the car before he could sell it. Two words: my ass! My car just got new tires in June. The only thing they would do to that car is slap a sale sticker on it for $4k + more than they offered me. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't looking for the retail price to be offered, but I wasn't going to be taken advantage of either. I can tell you that the overpriced, dirty car with the bad brakes that I test drove sure as heck didn't have new tires. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Very arrogant group of people that are very condescending to women at least. In the end it was their loss. I went right down the road and made a deal on the same type of car from their lot, yet it was cheaper, had lower miles, good tires and brakes and more features. Plus, I was also offered a fair trade price for my car. So if your looking for a good group to buy from, don't bother with Hunter Volvo Subaru, just go down the road to Friendship like I did. read more

We bought a new Crosstrek for our daughter 4 years ago (in CA) and had a great experience. We wanted to purchase a used Outback with low miles. We loved the idea of not having to negotiate on pricing which we thought was customary with Subaru. We do not finance our cars, we pay cash. Our experience with Hunter was not good.. The Good (there is not much), the Bad and the UGLY (not enough time in the day to cover this one) The Good - Pam Justice was helpful and stayed late to sell us a car - They had the car we wanted The Bad - They originally quoted us a price higher than listed on Cargurus (which we told them is the reason we came in), but they agreed to honor the price after telling them that we wouldn't buy a car at the higher price. The UGLY - We were encouraged to buy an extended warranty (on top of the certified pre-owned warranty that came with purchase), which we did (DO NOT DO THIS! after all the time it took to buy the car, fill out the paperwork, etc. we were tired and thought the negotiating was over). We were given only one option of a warranty (I've since researched it, there are many more options available) and was falsely told things would be covered that we now know for a fact would not be! I didn't sleep well that night, something didn't make sense. So we called the following morning to let Finance know we would be cancelling the extended warranty (we had 30 days to cancel per the contract). we did not receive a call back, so we followed up with an email, still no response. 2 weeks later we walked into Hunter Subaru and again requested to cancel the contract, after about an hour we left after signing the cancellation form and were told we would receive the refund in 7-10 business days. One month later we still had not received the refund check. We emailed to inquire about our rebate check, no response. Low and behold, 2 days later the check arrived. The check was dated 3 weeks prior and was only posted the day we emailed asking where it was. The only thing we can say now is that we have the car we want, but the experience getting it was awful! We will be servicing our Outback at Prestige where we have had much more pleasant interactions. read more

Has to be the worst car buying experience I've ever had. Samuel King (salesman) tells me leasing is the best option.. you don't have to pay property taxes, they take care of all oil changes, and that my payment isn't due until 45 days of the lease. LIE.. LIE.. LIE.. First of all I didn't get my tag until 2 months later after having to call the manager Brent, didn't receive the seat warmers Mr. King said he would send me until 2 months later after hounding him for the tracking number , and got hit with a late fee because he told me my first payment wasn't due until 45 days. After speaking to manager Brent-- Mr. King was wrong about payments with a lease it's 30 days, I am responsible for paying property taxes and NO way do they take care of my oil changes!!!! I absolutely would NOT recommend this company to my worst nightmare! read more

Went to get my forester checked out because there was a recall on some Subaru parts. Turns out I still had damaged that had gone unfixed after a minor accident I had in December 2019. Dolores kindly communicated the situation to me and was very patient, attentive, helpful and really went above and beyond. Thankfully insurance covered everything and Dolores played a huge part in communicating on my behalf. I avoided what could have been a total nightmare.
