Went here for my mother in law's birthday dinner. The dining area is very well paneled and I love the look of the place. I had a special dish tonight, the seared Ahi Tuna with clams, mixed vegetable and saffron rice. It was exquisite and all the components perfectly complimented each other and the lemon sauce really gave a nice tang. I booked Hunters for New Years Eve. $150 with premium bar was the cost. The only good thing was the band who were fantastic but that's where it ends. We sat for over a half hour with nothing but water. When I asked for some bread I was told "we don't have any bread" When the appetizer came it was a shrimp cocktail but the shrimp looked like a limp cooked spaghetti. The main was ok. My sister and I came back recently for dinner and the service was nice. We got a table with a better lighting. This time I ordered a steak sandwich and it was a very big portion. Food was okay. Not the best I've had but fair. The steak took forever to cook and was only medium but still came out cold, really tough, too chewy, and too unseasoned. The baked clams were too small and doughy. Overall though, some dishes were still ok and decent price so I would come again for restaurant week - UNTIL I always presented with the check with autogratutity 20% on party of 2. The service was barely adequate, long seating time even though plenty of tables were available and finally seated us at a table near the door even though other tables deeper in were available. The food took wayyy too long to arrive 20minutes per course and the check was brought to us without asking in the middle of our dessert that just arrived. Not professional. When asked about the autogratutity, they said it was noted in the menu but nowhere did it say it was mandatory tip for ALL regardless of party size or that it would be a whopping 20%. Service was not the best beginning or end, didn't feel comfy (so cramped) or welcoming. Would not come back again. Tried this restaurant for the first time because of restaurant week and I'm glad I did. Came for lunch with my family and most of us tried the 10oz sirloin. Despite NOT being served on those sizzling hotplates with lots of oil and/or butter, the steak was surprisingly flavorful and tasty. We all enjoyed the steak and it was cooked the way we wanted it. I had to order a salmon filet to share with my toddler. Unfortunately, he wasn't in the mood for salmon but he enjoyed the julienned veggies. Also ordered the fish and chips, as well as yhe chicken fingers for the kids. They enjoyed them both. Service was great. Love that it seems to be family owned as they were training their teenage son how to be a waiter. Overall, I would definitely come back for some tasty but affordable steak. Hunter's steakhouse is one of the older Bay Ridge staples, in a small cluster of steakhouses out near-ish the water. We had their $39.00 Restaurant Week Dinner Menu as well as some their regular dishes. Their regular dishes were quite creative, almost fusion. Take a look at my photos! Their dry age isn't too funky, which is bad if you like a strong flavor. That's the main reason for the 4 stars. I believe that people who seek out dry age steaks look for that flavor. We were a party of three for their $150 pp for New Year's Eve "special," which included an unlimited "premium" bar. We quickly learned that "premium" did not include all of the premium brands, but the waitress had no idea which. Finally, two of us ordered Maker's Mark bourbon, but as soon as they were brought over, at 9:00 p.m. at the beginning of the meal, the waitress said "that's the end of the Maker's Mark." They had no dry Rose' for the third drinker. After we sat there for an hour without a morsel to eat we asked for bread and were told "there's no bread -- nobody's getting bread." We ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizers -- the cocktail sauce was good, the shrimp were soft and floppy. The salads were minuscule, and the the Caesar salads had little or no dressing. The entrees were excellent. Desserts were good. Near midnight they came by with a couple of cheap noisemakers and hats, and there was a barely audible countdown to midnight by the band. The band was excellent. The night ended with champagne, in a plastic glass. This was a $150 New Years' Eve "special" done ON THE CHEAP. It's clear why they wanted full payment a week in advance. Went there with my family for my daughter's 17th Birthday. Wanted to try a new place. Reviews were decent so I decided to try it. The place is clean and it has a nice ambience. The staff are nice as well. I mentioned to the waitress that it was my daughters birthday thinking like in other places they would acknowledge it and sing happy birthday- didn't happen. We ordered the wings- which had a decent flavor but the wings were very tough to chew; we ordered a chicken club sandwich- the chicken was raw...yes raw...the waitress apologized profusely and took it off our bill...we orders a steak sandwich which was edible, we ordered a burger-edible and we ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes- both of which had absolutely no flavor at all. Thought its been a bit of a while since my last visit to the Hunters Steak and Ale House, I cannot say that I've ever had a bad meal here. Over the years, I've done brunches, lunches, dinners and special dining events that were all top drawer. There used to be a buffet brunch but that seems to have ended to move to a brunch menu which is still nice. There is a wonderful price fix dinner that changes in its options quite often and you get either a soup or salad, entree and dessert and coffee. During these times I've had either chicken francaise or petite filet mignon or some kind of shrimp dish if it was one of their shrimp specialty nights. While I am generally a beer drinker, when I am here I indulge in a glass or two of white or zinfandel since I like those two options more than a red wine. The waitstaff is curteous and friendly and checks back on the table often to make sure that you don't need anything. I like this especially after dining in places where you wonder where your waiter or waitress even went. I'd have to say that among my favorite seasonal themes here are the Octoberfest based on the cuisine they offer or the shrimp night since I just love shrimp. Oh yeah and there is a WiFi signal in the restaurant so you can do your Swarm and Yelp checkins while also letting all your friends on Facebook know your every move. As we make our way through each steakhouse in our area(lucky us they are all reknown for their food), we had finally made it to this place to try out. The moment you step inside is like being in an old steakhouse complete with pictures of families, New York, trinkets here and there, etc. There is something reminiscent and homey about being in a place like this that is not easily achieved. We started with red wine to set ourselves up for steak and appetizers. The calamari was very tender and fried well, only lacked a little salt, but this was made up for in the sauce. The portion size for this appetizer was huge and could easily feed at least 4 people. Steak. My wife went with a sirloin steak that was surprisingly good. It was more of the doorstopper shape, rather than your flat out piece. The ribeye I had was the winner by far thought. The compound butter rounded all of the tender charred meaty flavor. This steak felt more complete and was served at a perfect medium. The cheesecake we had for desert was underwhelming. Waxy, very mute flavor. Went to Hunter's for NYC Restaurant Week before it ended. Did their $39.00 Dinner Menu. You got four courses. The food was great. I had the fried calamari, caesar salad and the broiled salmon fillet. My dessert was a piece of cheesecake. The food came out fresh each time. Got to try a buffalo wing as well. I really enjoyed my meal. When I got home, I had the cheesecake. It was light and fluffy. We loved our waitress, Teresa. She was very friendly and checked up on us. Getting to Bay Ridge can be a trek but I can see myself going back to support due to the service alone. read more

Since I've checked in here more times than any other single place, I guess I like it. The staff and bartenders are really nice here. The lunch menu is a real bargain. It might be one of the best bargains anywhere in NYC and Brooklyn..I'm serious. The owners are committed to the community but outsiders are always welcome. They treat everyone with respect here. Most recently I had the fish and chips, which is only about $14 for two nice pieces of fish along with an ample amount of fries. The burger is excellent too and is only $8 (on the lunch menu) and comes with fries. Plunk down some money on the Quick Draw machine...and boom, you might win it all back. I, showed the nice attentive waitress how I, tried to cut into the steak. We did get a discount on the bill. As we were leaving, a older man was standing in the doorway, we believe he worked there and saw us leaving Intentionally blocked the exit. I, had to say excuse me for him to move to the side.
