Hunt's has always popped up as the goto local camera shop. They have knowledgeable staff that can help you make decisions, teach you how to use cams, also has classes for beginners on site (by reservation i believe). The store was pretty spacious i did think they would have much more inventory but i know the "hype" models are hard to keep in stock and manufacturers don't exactly produce them heavily ie. GX7 cannon. We just got into shooting and have a a6400 but are in the market for the gx7 as a slightly smaller travel one. Theres many pocket options that look straight out of the 2000s not much seem to have changed on them except price and a few more mp available. Now if they don't have something in stock, you could put down a card for preorder and they'll call and charge you when it's in. Great spot! read more

This was my first time visiting a camera shop! There's a camera I've been wanting, however, it's been sold out for a while now. I heard that sometimes if you visit local camera shops, they may have inventory or have a way to get the camera you want without as much hassle. First impressions: the store is honestly much smaller than I expected but they a good amount of options & all cameras are in the cases/protected. The staff allows you to see the product though, upon request. Unfortunately, they didn't have the camera I wanted in stock. They did say that they could order it for me and to expect a 1-2 month wait but that it would be shipped to me if I did want to place the order. Though I haven't decided yet if I want to go through with ordering the camera yet, it's good to know that I can order it from here for retail price! I've done business with Hunt's for a few years now and have always had a great experience. I've been to Melrose, Kenmore Square and Providence. Recently I rented a lens from Providence. Talking with Gerry about it, he let me know they had a used one available for purchase. It seemed like a good deal and I did buy it. Everyone has been helpful and nice. I like to buy local, and Hunts is super place to get what you need from local people. 100% recommend. read more

It's tough, man. I want to support local businesses; having local photo shops is rare and not everybody is so lucky. But this Hunt's is a great example of why they're a dying breed. Selection is fine, but prices are not--everything I've looked at there is manufacturer list price when online retailers are often cheaper. They only stock high-end accessories that aren't much better than the no-name equivalents (and aren't 200%-the-price better). Staff is mostly friendly but aren't that helpful compared to online reviews and aren't allowed to let customers try gear in the store, so what's the point? Not good for resale, either. The manager taking a look at my gear (which, granted--old stuff!) grumbled (kinda rudely, to be honest) at me about how nobody wanted old stuff, they say they pin to B&H used prices but he could only give me $60 for a Panasonic GH4 because who wants that? Meanwhile KEH took two off my hands for $200 plus ten percent extra in store credit, and the week I went to Hunt's they had literally unloaded all their used stuff to a bulk buyer so wouldn't have been able to do the same anyway. (But they sell on Amazon, too, so I'm sure there are no used deals to be found.) Hunt's in Melrose got me started in videography in 2012, but things have changed, and this is no good at all. read more

I found a camera my late wife use to use because it hasn't worked in years I could not see what pictures were in it they finally got it working and put a new battery in it for me but it was only 3 photos of the ocean they did spend time getting the camera to work and even refunded me the new battery finally great customer service also plenty pf parking. read more

I recently stopped in here and bought a point and shoot for my wife. I'm a camera nut so I like to go to photo shops in order to get the right thing. I've frequented their other stores and always get great help when I'm there. One thing that I loved about this store is they have a 'train table' for kids. Its a low table with toy trains kids can use when Dad is shopping. I have no idea why every store in the world doesn't do the same thing. read more

I'll join the other five-star reviewers. I recently bought a gimbal tripod head but quickly discovered that was not a good choice. Alex suggested a ball head and L-plate that would work well with my camera. They sent a paid UPS shipping label to return the gimbal and quickly sent me the head and L bracket. Awesome team at the Hanover location. Professional, patient and helpful, plus the store is pretty well stocked with gear. They helped me fix a situation that started at another Hunt's location. I bought a floor model tripod, but it was missing the quick release plate (it was noticed in store, so they tried to sell me another one; didn't buy it). The plate I had at home didn't fit, so I brought the tripod into the Hanover store to return. The guys in the Hanover store understood it was an odd sale, and helped me find a new tripod. I shoot weddings for a living and can say with comfort that I am always 100% confident that they will come through with special orders as well as honor their warranty policies. Prices are about as good as you're going to get locally and if they don't stock it they can get it for you in a few days. Knowledge staff that want to answer your questions and will spend the time to explain if you don't totally understand photography lingo. I wanted to buy a camera there and I was uncertain about it they let me put a card in the camera I was interested in take a few pictures go home with the card and look at the photos. Went back in the next day and bought the camera. Extra service like this makes you want to buy there over and over again. read more

I went in here trying to decide between two DSLRs. The sales team was helpful and straightforward. I wound up going with a much less expensive model than I was originially planning on. They have an exceptionally good return policy as well. I wound up buying a body with a kit lens because they didn't have just the body the day I went in. I wound up returning the whole thing, repurchasing just the body, and getting a different lens a few days later. They were very nice about it, didn't charge a restocking fee, and were quick to boot. I had inherited a used Nikon and needed to get a new battery, lenses/filters, a memory card, and a camera bag. I was referred to the Hanover Hunt's (and Skip Besaw, an employee) by a friend. Great service, great knowledge, and he found me everything I needed at the price I needed. Did you know they can transfer items from store to store? I got my used lenses that way. Skip is very available by email (sbesaw@wbhunt.com) if you cannot get into the store right away. He can get all of the stuff you need together for you to review even before you get there. I purchased my Canon rebel film camera ages ago in the Melrose store and had great service back then. I had wanted to take the plunge into digital SLR's but had to wait until they were more reasonable. I saved my money and decided to buy from Hunts once again. Happy to see they have opened more stores I went to the Hanover location which is the easiest for me to get to. I took my 6 year old with me because of a previous post letting me know there was a train table in the store. A great feature if you have your kids with you. I knew exactly what model I wanted and as it turned out someone had just traded one in about an hour before I got there. They offered the used camera to me for $200 less than new but there wasn't any pressure. They let me play around with it and allowed me to take my time. The used camera was in such great shape I just couldn't pass it up and wound up getting a telephoto lens with the money I saved. I will go to Hunt's again for my photography needs. So much nicer to be able to touch and feel in person than buying off of the Internet. PS there is also a game stop in the same strip mall so be warned if you do take your kids. Purchase a Nikon cool pix E5700 years ago after the first trip it took great photos and it was a great camera. The next time I went to use the camera the screen was black. I brought it to Hunt's and was told I probably dropped the camera. I just recently found out this camera was recalled after that first year for the screen going black and because I was never informed of the recall I now feel cheated because Nikon refuses to repair or honor the camera saying parts are no longer available to fix it. It was an expensive camera when I bought and with accessories I spent about $900. read more
