I used to love this place but lately the quality of their flowers has been declining while their prices are increasing. To put into context, I came here in March and got a dozen roses for $20. I came again in May and the same roses were now $27. I understand inflation is increasing everything but what I was upset about was the fact that these roses lasted ONE DAY before they went bad. I purchased roses, tulips and hydrangea's in March and spent $52- ended up making 3 arrangements. At the end of May I purchased the same amount and spent $88 (also 3arrangements but quite a price increase!)- I could understand tulips dying quick because at the end of May they're not in season anymore but the roses and hydrangeas were a huge disappointment- especially because I ended up paying way more than I used to for them! read more

Result: The choice of flowers was very limited and all flowers looked wilted and faded. We still bought some flowers and the spray roses died the next day. I can not say that the flowers were super cheap especially taken in consideration the low quality. Seriously kicking myself for not coming here sooner. I ordered wholesale flowers for my wedding online with FiftyFlowers which has proven to be a complete disaster. After FiftyFlowers fudged my order, they suggested I go to a local vendor, wow thanks right? I went to the flower district along 28th street to get some pricing which wasn't much better than wholesale online, stopped by the Hunts Point Flower Market having forgotten that it was there, and saw the exact same flowers, colors, everything for about 1/3 of the price. The flowers bloomed just as beautifully as the ones I had ordered online, if not in better condition. The staff was so sweet and helpful, the variety was vast compared to 28th street. It's great now that the flower market has moved from the dark and dingy Yankee Stadium area to the waterfront open parking lot with the slight smell of fish in the air at the new Hunts Point Terminal Fish Market, formerly known as the "Fulton Fish Market". Trucks arrive early and at 5 am I am there with a neighbor filling our cars with flowers for our home gardens. There are a variety of gardening flowers like impatiens, begonias, petunias, pansies, large pots of hydrangeas, azaleas, hibiscus trees, etc. Believe me that you will get a real bargain here. For example, a tray of impatiens which consist of 40 plants will cost you $10 compared to retail stores who charge $12 and add tax at the end. Yes saving $2 a tray might not seem much but when you buy 5-10 trays like most depending on your garden size, it's all worth it. Pros: Flowers are fresh and plenty. Sellers are very friendly and helpful. Less expensive than retail. NO TAX. Cons: $5 charge per car for entry via toll plaza into the market. read more

I'll start by saying I really wanted to give this place a high rating. But I will say the employees are nice and always willing to help. However the quality of the flowers are bad. I went 3 weeks ago for the first time. I liked it although I noticed the flowers weren't doing so great but was told it was do the weather change. Ok fine. I went back got lilies which lived for about a week or so. I thought ok not bad. However I did notice some stems didn't open and turned brown. I placed an order for a wedding. For a bride and 4 bridesmaids. I went at 5AM! I was told to wait 4 hours for the rest of the flowers! Long story short go downtown the quality is better the flowers last longer. Wish someone would of told me. I had to buy flowers at the supermarket after I spent $140 at this place. read more

Wonderful selection and the staff is great! They showed me blooms and greens that pair together well. I bought enough for 8 centerpieces, all for probably 1/8th the price of having them made by a florist. Two things to note: First, go early. The market is only open till midday, and stuff sells out fast. I had gone a previous day at 11 AM and there was little left. Second: You *can* find cheaper flowers at Trader Joe or even your local deli or supermarket if they're on sale. But for selection and variety, plus a range of greenery to fill out bouquets or centerpieces, they are unbeatable. read more

When you but Bill it is slightly cheaper but you can also just mix and match what you need. We are getting flowers to help out friends maker the pins and bouquet for the wedding! I have been going up to this market for different needs for almost three years. The staff is kind and knowledgable on all of the plant life. I've mostly come here for orchids & roses. The quality is comparable to what you might find in the Chelsea Flower District but the prices here are MUCH BETTER. There have been occasions when they have given me a bag of rose petals instead if making ne purchase. This place was an absolute wonderland for a flower lover. Fantastic selection (although I was able to name everything I saw). Every color, super fresh, dirt cheap, and the staff was as cheerful as the merchandise. I am not a professional, and they were patient and helpful. My grandmother had a scare and spent the night in the hospital. I called a local florist who quoted me $100 for a bouquet I wanted to send, but I decided to check out this market instead. HOLY COW. I ended up spending $130 and I filled every vase in her house and mine and had to go out to buy more. Rather than sending one bouquet to the hospital, she returned home to 10 huge bouquets in every shape and color. Three weeks later there were still blooms. Couple things- go with a plan otherwise you'll be overwhelmed and come home with a ton of stuff that might never make it into a bouquet. Call ahead for anything out of the ordinary or if your timing is important (weddings/etc) becasue some are SO fresh, things like lilies and iris might not open for days, while the roses are ready now... Also remember this is wholesale, so bunches are big. Price per stem is cheap, but you are buying in bulk and these stems are not processed- you will have to trim, remove leaves/thorns etc, so give yourself time. Check business hours- they're odd- they open before dawn and close after lunch. I've heard selection is best first thing in the morning, but I went late in the day just before valentine's and couldn't imagine anything that was missing. On street parking was easy to find. read more

This place is a neighborhood gem! I ordered several hundred carnations for my wedding, & they were beautiful! I placed the order, in-person, about 3 weeks before the event. I showed them pictures of what I wanted. When I went to pick them up, the flowers were fresh! They gave me tips on how to care for them, & even helped me load them in to my car. This establishment has a beautiful selection of flowers with affordable prices. However, I am sadly, very disappointed with them. An order was placed for my cousins baby shower, which is tomorrow, weeks before the event and we were told they could be picked up the day before. My cousin gets there and is told that the flower, that was recommended to her during the time the order was made, was not in season. Horrible customer service and horrible flower quality. Ordered flowers for my wedding and when I received them they were the worst quality of flowers I have ever seen. Hydrangeas died the next day, roses were practically all wilted and calla lilies were so squashed that they never perked up. I should've went with my first idea and ordered them from Costco for pretty much the same price this place charges you. I would never recommend this place to anyone. They are not helpful at all and look at you as if you're bothering them. read more

This place has nice staff that will even find someone to help you if they are unable to for whatever reason. (However, the guy who seems to be the manager/owner - baseball cap and eyeglasses - is a prick and does not like helping customers). They will wrap your purchase too! The store is always clean and well-organized. Never had a bad shopping experience. So, why the 1-start rating, you ask? b/c something is terribly wrong with the flower quality. On three separate occasions the flowers I've purchased have died the very next day. And yes, I did everything you're supposed to do - put flowers in a clean vase with fresh water, snipped the ends, and placed them in a cool, dry place away from the sunlight. On two occasions I gave them some flower food and on one occasion I did not. I even put them in different rooms in the house, thinking maybe a different location was in order. But nope! None of that made a difference b/c all bouquets died the same death. This time I took pictures to show how quickly their flowers die just after one day. I don't get it.
