Huong Viet might be a hard sell for many first timers, especially since the sticky floors, semi-whack bathrooms, and perpetual smoke smell from the neighboring Bida (#1) is too hard to ignore. However, the friendly service and extremely tasty food is a reason to make this a quality sleeper option on this side of Bellaire. The interior is large and great for groups. There is a mix of booths and long tables for big parties and the place is hardly ever busy. Despite opening during the pandemic, it still feels like a place that just opened. Service is friendly and bilingual given the largely Viet patrons. Unless one is coming with 20+ folks, I am willing to bet walk-in large parties won't require advanced reservations. Most folks are here for the com tam, i.e. the Vietnamese broken rice plate. Their pork chop with a little hint of the pungent fish sauce is fabulous, as is their com chien (fried rice) with grilled beef. Their version of mi xao (fried noodle) is a nice portion and should not be overlooked. Another surprise is their nuoc mam (fish sauce) wings, which was full of flavor and had a nice crunch to go with a juicy meat. My favorite dish was their ca kho, which featured a nice crisp to go with a slightly sweetened, umami flavor. It perfectly complimented the rice and is a must have. Lastly, for the Viet noobs who are on the hunt for pho or bun bo hue, this is not a noodle soup house. Finally found a really yummy rice plate place near Chinatown. It's further away from the man plazas, almost like a hole in a wall. Aesthetic entrance and ceiling decors, and friendly service. My bf ordered the rice plate and I got the vermicelli but I actually like his plate a lot more because the grill pork is so charcoal smoked, and the sweet sauce is just right, we didn't get tired of the taste at the end of the meal. My vermicelli with beef was alright, some pieces were little too chewy for me, but the noodle and veggies are good pairing with the sauce still, I would probably get the grill pork with it next time, it's a dry dish. We ordered broken rice, Banh Canh, Chicken Wings with garlic butter, and Beef tendon salad. They brought out the Banh Canh first, which got me full and not able to enjoy the appetizers as much. However, flavor was there -- Banh Canh was enjoyable, though there are better options in Houston. Broken rice was good with my friend -- I also ordered to-go for my SO, though the baby back ribs were limited in portion. Next time, I would rather order different cuts instead. The place was clean, spacious, and well decorat inside. We came in a group of 6 during Tuesday lunch. The place was occupied by 1 big table (around 10-12) & about 3-4 tables of 2 before us, but the server seemed so stressed out. He told us they were really overwhelmed because of all party tray orders so they didn't want to accept more customers. Every dine-in order would expect at least 30-40 mins to get ready. It was only their 2nd week of grand opening & it also happened to be during the Thanksgiving week so we understand the whole situation. I've heard so many good things about their Com Suon Nuong (Grilled Pork Chop on Broken Rice) so we all went for that. It was okay & the portion was generous but the pork chop was a bit too dry and cold when it came to our table, so I didn't get to have the best taste of this dish yet. After reading the reviews about the food, being too sweet, I definitely see where everyone was coming from. We order the caramelized catfish, sweet-and-sour, catfish soup, and the rice plate with pork. The rice plate was very generous, plenty of meat and plenty of rice and vegetables. The flavor was sweet, but the fish sauce evened that out a bit. I wish the pork was less fatty, I felt like most of the pork was mostly fat. I was intrigued by this spot on Ubereats. So, I ordered their grilled beef ribs and grilled pork over broken rice. The ribs were tasty and had that nice chargrilled taste. This is my go-to for Vietnamese food. I have only used Door Dash for delivery. Of the pho's I have yet to try most of the menu. I find the seafood pho's very appealing, very hearty and full of noodles and variety. The Vietnamese egg rolls are good and crispy. I like the play of crispy fried wrappers with the coolness of the lettuce leaves. The dipping sauce is not as syrupy as the Chinese sweet and sour. I was recommended this restaurant by my friend, so I decided to go check this place out recently on a weekday afternoon. There aren't that many good Viet restaurants in Houston in my opinion, so I don't have very high expectations for Viet foods around here. It is located on the far side of Viet Town, and the shopping center also looked pretty sketchy to me with bad parking spaces. Surprisingly, the foods here tasted pretty good and reminds me of the foods in Vietnam. I ordered the Cơm Sườn Bò Đại Hàn (steamed broken rice w/ beef short ribs), it was so good and flavorful. They actually use broken rice, instead of regular jasmine rice that many Viet places use. I also added an egg roll to it, which was pretty decent tasting as well and definitely tasted homemade. Another dish I ordered was the Bún Thịt Nướng (vermicelli with grilled pork), and it was also very flavorful and tasty as well.
