This is a good casual dining experience with authentic Vietnamese dishes. And some of these dishes are not sold or prepared in other restaurants. The place is almost always busy proving the quality of the food and the kind attentive service from the staff. When you enter, I usually just a spot and I'm quickly spotted by a waiter. They take the order quickly and the food comes out relatively quickly and hot. The staff even call out the classic phrase "Nước sôi!" when they bring a hot dish out of the kitchen. This phrase translates to boiling water, but they do this for patron safety. I've ordered the Cơm chiên gà xối mỡ which is fried rice with crispy chicken. The rice and chicken are cooked perfectly and the rice has crunch bits made for it. The chicken also has two dipping sauces that come with it. 5/5 taste We have also had the Bánh Khọt which comes as separate small pancake style foods stuffed with shrimp and batter with a side if fresh vegetables and fish sauce. 5/5 taste They also have some refreshing drinks and soft drinks as well. The menu extensive, so there's definitely something for everyone. While the price might seem a little high at first glance, but the portion are generous and many dishes are made to share. The Bun Mam was packed with abundance of fresh seafood and it came with great noodle portion, enough to split the bowl between the table. The Banh Khot was perfectly crispy on the outside, while staying light and delicate on the inside. It paired great with their house-made kumquat dipping sauce. It was a little sweet for liking, but diluting with some water balanced it out nicely. I had a great experience and left impressed by both dishes I've tried. Hmmm. I ordered banh khot because I had been craving it after my VN trip. The bánh khọt looked promising at first because the edges were crispy, but the center underneath the shrimp was extremely soggy and lacked flavor. The texture was disappointing overall, and the dish tasted bland and underwhelming. That said, I'm willing to give the restaurant another try since they offer many other dishes on the menu. My family's favorite spot every single time they visit Houston. It's always packed too. The restaurant is quite small and seating is tight. You may end up sitting next to strangers. Only found a few pork slices along with ground pork. Tried some of the bun rieu; it was ok but a bit oily. Bun bo hue broth was also mid. There are definitely other Bellaire restaurants with better tasting hu tieu/bun rieu/BBH. Workers don't seem friendly. We dined as a party of 4. Came with my girlfriend to try the Bun Rieu and we really liked it! The crab broth was super flavorful and concentrated. The taste of the crab was very apparent and the toppings were great. The first thing I want to mention is the service was pretty good. We were seated immediately , and the servers were very attentive. They have plenty of options to choose from. Price was from $14 to $20, but their potion was good. Their seasoning is kind of south east Vietnam region, which is a little bit sweet and salty. Nothing is too salty when we ate. Their sauce was a good balance of tartness combined with the dish. Oc Nhay - Hap Sa - (Lemongrass conch snail) - the broth was very flavorful, and for the amount of snails they provide for that price was unbeatable. We ended up drinking the whole broth. Banh Khot Vung Tau - Seafood mini shrimp pancake - Absolutely delicious. Takes about 15 minutes for them to make because each batter has to be pour individually. They usually have a combination of meat, shrimp, and squid, but we opted for just seafood. Bun Dau Mam Tom - one of my favorite dishes - it's a combination of meat intestine with some very crispy tofu and fishcake. I'm not a fan of their packed noodles, but everything else was top-notch. Amazing authentic viet food in Bellaire! Two biggest thing that attracted me to come here was the Bot Chien (fried taro cake) & Banh Khot (mini shrimp pancake) & both did not disappoint. The food tasted really authentic. Our favorites would have to be the Banh Khot Vung Tau and Banh Khot. They were crisp to perfection at the edges and full of flavor, the nuoc mam and veggies paired perfectly with it. One of those hole in the wall kind of place. Walking in, you can pretty much expect that the Viet food will be good. They do have English on the menu and the staff speaks a bit of English. It was a bit crowded but we got seated after a few minutes of waiting. They have a variety of Viet dishes on the menu from soup noodles, appetizers, and seafood. Their banh bot chien is probably one of their most popular dish and it was extra crispy. Exactly what you would expect it to be and the sauce goes so well with it. The bun rieu oc is what I was looking forward to because it's one of those Viet dish that you don't see it often on the menu. I'm always looking for the best I can find and this one was at the top of the list. Flavorful broth and you can tell from looking at the color. We also had the pha lau which was my first time trying. Not everyone's cup of tea. It's like a curry broth with offal so beware if this isn't something you're used to. Also comes with bread to dip in the broth. I came with a small group, and we tried a couple of apps (banh bot chien and banh khot) and several dishes. I wasn't in the mood for their soups, so I just stuck to something interesting they make, chicken fried rice. The chicken fried rice is not what most would think, instead it's a fried chicken quarter with an orange marinade, along with a side of fried rice, acup of pho broth, a weird orange sauce to dip your chicken, and a cup of soy sauce. For the more explorative peeps, the Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm (vermicelli with fermented shrimp paste) the sauce was tasty (sweet)! This is not a dish that you can commonly find so it was nice to see it being highlighted as their special dish. The Bánh khọt (mini savory pancakes) was a fun dish to eat if you wanted to change up the texture. It was a great crunchy mixture of sweet and savory with the coconut and nước mắm (fish sauce), this dish has to be eaten quickly as they get soggy after being left out. The place can get crowded on a weekend with a bigger party (ours was 10 people) but the service was quick and our food came out in an orderly manner. The giant chili pepper took me for a surprise because I thought it'd be the spice level of a bell pepper but it was in fact the spice of a Thai chili pepper. This is quite possibly one of the best Vietnamese hole in the wall places you'll ever eat at. I saw a few photos of some potential dishes and knew exactly what I wanted to order. I was mostly sold on the banh khot dish and bot chien. Everything else, I wanted to be a surprise. Banh Khot - ah the BEST dish of the visit. the crunch to soft ratio, plus every bite I took just put my soul into heaven. I didn't want it to end, even when my stomach was coming to it's fullness. The dish took a bit of time to come out and it was well worth the wait. I couldn't stop smiling of how good this dish was. I even posted it on instagram and received so many responses of where to find it. I wasn't going to gatekeep, cause I want my friends to know where to find this gem. Salted Kumquat - I feel as though this is an acquired taste. If you didn't grow up drinking this, then it might not be for you. But for me, it was delicious! One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Houston for Banh Khot! Banh Khot is a savory little pancake with shrimp in the middle. It's described as a pancake but its more like a mini muffin with incredibly crisp edges thanks to the special cast iron pan its cooked in. If you like Banh Xeo, this is like it's fun younger sister! You eat it wrapped in all the fresh greens and dipped into fish sauce. So so good. The crisp edges, the bite of shrimp contrasted with the leafy greens dipped in the fish sauce is like heaven on earth. The portion is HUGE and is definitely meant to share. My plate came with 10 pieces and was so delicious. My jaw DROPPED when they placed it on our table. I also ordered the pickled kumquat drink (a must) and the coconut snails. Yes, coconut snails or Öc Len Xão Dua! These little suckers are deliciously cooked in a lemongrass coconut sauce. Pro tip on how to eat these - open up the bottom and suck it out! The restaurant looked like any hole-in-the-wall on Bellaire, not nice by all means, but clean and there were lots of regulars during dinner time, which was a good sign. My friend ordered the Bun Mam (fermented fish noodle soup) and I ordered the Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup). My son had the Banh Canh (Tapioca Noodle in a Pork broth and I had to try the lemongrass snails. The dishes looked fantastic when they came out. My friend said the Bun Mam was a bit on the sweet side and wasn't the best she's had. I had to agree with that statement when it came to the Bun Bo Hue as well. Though there was a decent amount of meat in the bowl. The Banh Canh was on the sweet side as well and the lemongrass snails were very bland. The broth didn't make it into the snails at all. We visited for the 2nd time today and were so pleased with our experience. The food is exceptional. I was especially impressed with the service as all of the staffs were so friendly. We requested to sit outside because we have pet and they were happily serving us and being sure we got everything we need. We live far from Houston so whenever we eat out here, we are pretty picky.
