Many different dishes to select from (from $2-$6 portions, a few $8). From soups to meat dishes, fried fish, and veggies - also Vietnamese curry and ragu; everything is so good. Although, I recently had the canh chua (vietnamese sour soup), it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst.... You can also get a togo box of just rice. If you're paying with credit card, tax will be added; so its best if you bring cash. This is one of my favorite fast food places to go for Vietnamese comfort food. It's cheap and good. The ladies in here are friendly. You can choose if you want $2 (minimum) or more of a certain item. During the week around lunch hours they sell the "to go box" lunches for $4.50-6.50 (depending on what you're getting). You can also dine in if you prefer. Credit cards are accepted if you spend at least $10 or more and tax will be added. Otherwise, cash is best (no tax). My gripes: It's not the cleanest place. Sometimes serving dishes aren't clean. The food somehow spoils quick within the day or so. I did observe them using the same utensil to grab 2-3 different dishes. It is a hole in a wall, but it is well maintained and clean. I usually buy a week worth of dishes and they would last for the entire time. I like their whole fish fried, stuffed tofu, cà ri gà (chicken curry), ragu gà (chicken ragu), stir-fried veggies. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of it. It's also okay if you don't know what the dishes are called. This type of place is also known to serve "cơm chỉ" in Vietnamese, which means you use your finger to point at the dishes you want. How much of it depends on the container size that you choose (small, large, etc.). You can definitely dine in as there are tables. The lady behind the counter is also very sweet. I finally got a chance to try this place out and to me.... the food is reasonably priced and the taste is very home cooked. It's nice to be able to eat a variety of Vietnamese food without breaking your back making it and being stuck eating the same thing for a week if you did. I bought like 7 dishes and some rice for a total of $36. The thit mam ruoc, mam chung, suon kho, thit kho trung, and stir fried green beans was yummy. The stuff bitter melon and stuff tomatoes was only "ok", the meat was a little tough and dry but I'd still eat it. Overall it is a good place for people like me who crave Vietnamese dishes but can't cook them well and doesn't have time. Update: my meat stuffed tomatoes spoiled that evening. The ladies here are so nice! I always buy 10 buck of food for two to three days. All you need to do is point and tell them how much you want to buy, $2, $3 or $5 dollars worth of food. Firstly I'd like to note that Quan Di Tu is not really a traditional restaurant although they do have seating for you to dine in. It's a com phan (translation rice portion) food service which means it caters to folks that don't want to cook, can't cook or that don't have time to cook a tradition home cooked meal on the daily. They sell the food by pieces, for example 3 pieces of pork stuffed tomato is $3, $1 per piece. The available dishes are reflective of what Vietnamese family style dinner normally consist of. Traditionally my family eats rice, a salty protein, a pickled dish and/or a veggie dish and soup as a finisher for dinner. The dishes are almost always the same however there is a decent variety of salty proteins and the soup sometimes changes. On to the review. This place is a busy professionals godsend. I normally buy a weeks worth of lunch food from here. It cost me $12 - $14 for 4 - 5 days of lunch. The price is unbeatable. I get my $3 protein or $3 soup per day and its satiating. Wholesome home cooking for such a steal is the real value of such a place. The flavor profile suits my taste buds. The proteins have the traditional savory and well blended sweet to balance things out, with a slant towards salty which is perfect served on a bed of white rice. More importantly their food consistently tastes the same. I will not be a repeat customer if a restaurant cooks the same dish differently every time. That's an indication of poor management and quality control. The owner is a sweetheart and everyone is friendly. It's nice to feel welcome when I walk in. More importantly, the service, in my humble opinion, was very nice and friendly as well! {"Quán Dì T"} - Emphasis added {...} - is a cheap-eat; primarily serving the "Vietnamese American" community (people who used to eat Vietnamese food and speak Vietnamese) in and around Bellaire area. Here's an example: "Don't look at me like that f... look"*** is such vulgarized and "discriminatory" language that find NO place against d4 and her staff whose English perhaps are marginal. Excellent authentic, Vietnamese home-style cooking. This is a place where you come, point to what you want and tell them what size you want, and they'll pack it up to-go for you to eat at home. No frills, no fanfare. In Vietnamese, we call it "mon an chi," which loosely translates to food you point at. It's better than some Vietnamese moms' cooking and there is a good variety of dishes to try out. We went on a Sunday at 5 PM and there were at least five types of fish, three types of braised pork belly/spare ribs, and other good old fashioned staples like pickled vegetables, soup, tofu, etc. There were plenty of ladies helping to move the line along, although there really wasn't an established line. The sizes are $2, $5, and $10, I think. We got $2 sizes for all of our choices just to try them out and see if they're good. They give you plenty of the delicious sauces for each (if any), so don't worry. Everything was seasoned just right, not too salty, not too sweet. I'm a very picky eater if you can't already tell from my other reviews, so this says a lot about them. We left with $10 worth of food total for two people, went home, made rice and boiled some bok choy for our veggies and had a wonderful meal like we would had our grandmothers cooked up five dishes for us. So good, my husband had four bowls of rice with it. It's Vietnamese soul food. Still had leftovers, too. Will definitely be back often. What we purchased: meat-stuffed tomatoes, black pepper braised pork, pickled veggies, braised fish (not sure what you'd call it in English but it's similar to mackerel), and a Vietnamese meat loaf. Went today with mumsies and was in awe at how much food we got for a "$5 size" to-go container of stewed pork and eggs and a "$2 size" of smelt fish. You can also get a plate with rice and a few items and chow down at a table. We just stopped by Quan Di Tu today to eat lunch. They gave us 2 empty bowls, which stacked together, for us to use to eat. When I unstack them, there are about 7 or 9 baby German roaches, alive and dead, crawing on the bottom bowl. It is an horrible experience which I will never forget! Friendly atmosphere with ethnic foods at low cost. I do not recommend this place for people unfamiliar with traditional foods. They can get real busy and then may mess up your total. My friend was charged too much and the invoice did not match what she bought. Upon calling to report the discrepancy, she was told that they "never" made mistakes. It was jam-packed at the time she bought the foods and they had a lady complaining. She just wanted to vacate the area to spare them more trouble. Lo and behold, errors were made.
