One of my favorites! I specifically go here just for the com hen (baby clams with rice). It is to die for!! Service is great and the restaurant is usually pretty quiet. Highly recommend then banh beo and banh bột lọc appetizers, too.

This place has one of the best Bun Bo Hue in Houston, TX. It was delicious. Highly recommend. The staffs here are super friendly. The price is reasonable. I'll definitely come back!

MUST GET ITEM is the Banh Ram It! Soft and chewy texture with some shrimp, pork and veggies inside of it. Sitting on top of a crispy cracker. You'll pair this with fish sauce and it's a lovely combo. They also serve mi quang and com thit nuong. Everything was pretty flavorful. The Mi Quang used a thicker noodle almost udon-like which i thought was unique. Lots of seating inside and parking is within the plaza. To take to-go they also have various vietnamese snacks like Crispy Rice. Love this!

Because of its Michelin Bibendum recognition, I was excited to try Nam Giao and am so glad I did. My mom and sister were with me, and we all agreed the food's flavors were absolutely outstanding. We tried many dishes (every dish mentioned in the Michelin piece plus others,) and we found each to be unique, perfectly seasoned, and of fresh, high quality. Everything else? Well, let's just say this place is a bit of a "cheap eats" place, so ambiance is not a thing. The soles of my sneakers were sticking to the floor as I walked across the dining room to find a fork for my mom. Forks? They didn't have any. No forks. They only had spoons, and they weren't normal eating spoons, they were the long metal spoons used to stir tall beverages :D And, yeah, I had to get up to seek my mom's eating utensil myself, because there was Just one person working out front. One. So naturally, service was nonexistent in the traditional sense, like expecting someone to actually take your order. That's right, I had to walk across that sticky floor a few times to order food. And that's the thing... we ordered food and more food! Because it was delicious! So, I agree with The Guide in that the dishes are amazing, and I'm really glad we tried it. Will I be back? Ummm... no.

The restaurant may not have the best ambiance or attentive service, but it more than makes up for it with their unique Central Vietnamese dishes. One of the standout dishes on the menu is the Banh Beo, a traditional steamed rice cake topped with savory toppings. At Nem Gio, the toppings are dried minced shrimp and crispy pork pieces. You can order them without the pork pieces to make them pescatarian friendly. You can also order 32 of these delightful little darlings for just $15.50, which is a steal and can be enjoyed by 2-3 people. Whenever I am craving Banh Beo, this place is my go-to. My mom and I can easily finish all 32 of them by ourselves! I also highly recommend trying the Baby Clam Rice dish (Com Hen). It's not often you'll find this dish on a restaurant menu, so it's definitely worth trying. I would skip the rolls and soups from here. There are much better places for those. Oh! And please be patient with the service as the ladies at the front are older and often there is only one of them working. They handle taking orders, running them out, and bussing tables all with a pleasant attitude so please be patient with them. =) Overall, this restaurant is a hidden gem for those seeking for the best Banh Beo and unique Hue dishes like Com Hen.

Solid viet food probably the best I had in Texas so far, everything was super legit and tastes like Vietnamese flavors

Wow!!! This was quite the new food experience! I thought I had tried practically every cuisine until I tried this. It was delicous- however I LOVE mochi/chewy rice cake things in general, so if you're not big on that this is not the place for you. The flavor was spot on- savory and sweet fish sauce and the texture on everything was addicting!!! I will definitely be back.- also only $13 split between 2 people for all this food. I recommend ordering the combination platter with their homemade sausage along with the mochi crisps.

I came here because I was craving banh beo, and I forgot that it was recognized by Michelin this year! I originally ordered 8 banh beo, but the lady told me that 8 is not enough, so I got 16 banh beo instead. It was absolutely delicious. I think I devoured it all in 15 minutes. It was steaming warm when I got it, and the crispy pork skin made it all the better. For the price and the quality it is unbeatable. It does take some time for the food to be ready as the banh beo is made to order. The place was super clean. I appreciate that despite the recognition, they still kept their paper menu the same. I will definitely come again to have more banh beo and to try their other food.

Our first time at this mom-and-pop Vietnamese eatery, and it won't be the last. Tried the steamed mini rice pancakes (8 for $4.75), pork and shrimp crystal dumplings ($6.25) & mochi on crisp mochi ($7.95). Service was quick. Dining area was clean.Their mini rice pancakes were my definite favourite. They were so good that I wished I were hungry enough to order 32 of them (an option for $15.95). The tasty trifecta of soft steamed rice + crunchy toppings + umami fish sauce was unbeatable.

I'm not even sure how this place got a Bib gourmand last year and still kept that award this year. We came on a Saturday in the early afternoon and there were only a few other tables. There was one large table with dirty dishes and napkins all over the table. There were several workers just passing by that table and not cleaning it up. I also read in other reviews that the service isn't great (typical at most restaurants in this area so I'm already quite aware of this). I had to flag someone down to take down our order. The bun bo hue was lacking flavor, banh xeo wasn't quite tasty as how it is at Thien An BUT the banh beo was the only thing that was good and memorable about this place. I normally take photos of all our dishes but after the BBH, I didn't even have an appetite to take photos of the rest of our meal. For a place with a Bib gourmand, we expected a little more!

Checked this place out after seeing it on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list. Its a casual Vietnamese spot tucked into a plaza, easy to miss and gives family-owned vibes We ordered the grilled flank steak wrapped in vine leaves rice plate, the pork and shrimp crystal dumplings, and the crispy grilled pork spring rolls. Everything was great, but the spring rolls were amazing. It comes with a peanut sauce + serrano chili sauce that lowkey makes the whole dish. I could honestly eat the sauce on its own lol Definitely come and try their spring rolls. Its my go-to now!

This is my third time coming here and this is the spot I take my friends and family if they want authentic Vietnamese food. I've ordered the following: Banh Beo Banh Bot Loc La Bam Ram It Banh Qual Vac Ban Xeo Don Tan Nem Nuong Even though there are so many Vietnamese restaurants in the Houston area, there's not a lot of spots that serve Bahn Beo. However, this is Nam Giao's specialty and honestly, all the other dishes I had here were fantastic too! I love how the Bahn Beo has both chewy/soft texture from the steamed rice cake as well as crunchy textures from the toppings. As for the interior, there's a good number of seats and the service is relatively fast. If you're looking for Vietnamese food other than your usual pho/banh mi, give Nam Giao a try!

The filling is placed in a pan and then a thin layer of batter made with tumeric and coconut milk yellow batter is poured on top. You wrap the lettuce around the bánh xèo/bánh khọt and dip it in the fish sauce. I got the bánh khọt and the bò né. Bánh khọt is like a mini, thicker version of bánh xèo and came with nine pieces. Their bánh khọt was crispy, sweet and savory, and went well with the fish sauce. Although the portions initally look small, they are very filling. The bò né was filling and sizzling when it came out. It also came with a side of salad. The meat was tender. I really liked the bánh khọt and would definitely come back for them. I couldn't have been more wrong. Xeo Yum (#1) as it turns out is one of the most legit Vietnamese places in Midtown serving up some of the city's best banh xeo and banh khot. Located inside of a Food Hall (#2) in the back corner, they have low-key become a destination and without question, the most popular stall in the entire place. The fan base didn't happen overnight but is a direct result of Chef Cuong Nguyen's commitment to quality Vietnamese fare. Banh Xeo is their signature item, which is also known as a sizzling crepe or pancake made of rice flour, tumeric, and coconut milk. The banh xeo holds well, is perfectly crispy, and is nicely stuffed with an assortment of beans sprouts, shrimp, and some of the best grilled pork belly I've had. Another specialty item that doesn't get enough mention is their banh khot, which is similar but has a mini muffin / cupcake like appearance made in a specialty cast iron mold. This version is wonderfully crispy and pairs perfectly with fresh greens and fish sauce with some funk. It is my favorite item here. Some have argued they also serve one of the best bo ne (#3), the Vietnamese version of steak and eggs served in a skillet. The chunks of beef are nice and tender with just a tad of char, served with two fried eggs, and a banh mi baguette with a mix of butter and spare. Normally I think of spam or sausage included with the meats, but Chef Cuong's spin is with cherry tomatoes. It's a different approach and I'm not mad at it. Folks not looking for this can shoot for bo luc lac, aka shaking beef, which is also recommended. The staff here is sweet, hard-working, and very friendly. They also make a mean Vietnamese coffee and offer free iced self-serve water. The prices are what I would expect in a Midtown food hall, and there's plenty of seating. Anyone checking out the food hall need to make Xeo Yum as part of their eating itinerary. __________ (#1) A play on the Vietnamese sizzling crepe, Banh "xeo" and yum" (#2) Previously the Conservatory and now Stestí Food Hall. When I arrived there was nobody dining in the restaurant, that was a bit worrying, but I figured it was a bit early for the dinner crowd and late for the lunch crowd. Food & Drink - 4.5* First up was the noodles, I enjoyed them, but I wouldn't say the hype I'd heard about from some others was there. They had nice flavor, but there just wasn't anything "special." 3.5* Then it was on to the crawfish, and my oh my. Superb, the flavor is delicious and unique. This more than made up for the noodles dish. The potato and corn was good too. Service - 5* Solid. When I first arrived the owner was quietly reading a newspaper and eating his own lunch. He paused to greet me and advised that I could sit anywhere. He provided water and adequate time to determine what I wanted to order. The food came out quickly and he checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok. As time went by, the crowd of folks showing up increased quite a bit and he still managed to check in on tables consistently. Pricing - 4* This is where it was odd. Always subjective but I found the noodles to be overpriced for not only the size but what I felt was a pretty simple dish. The crawfish on the other hand was priced very competitively and made up for the overpriced noodles. I provided pics of the menu for someone to make their own assessment but in general I thought many of the dishes were pricier than they probably should be. I know inflation is certainly killing many businesses and consumers but even these felt a bit off. Overall - 4.5* This is definitely going to be one of my go tos for crawfish when in the area. The flavor is fantastic, the pricing is good, the size of them were solid. There are a couple of other dishes I may try on the next visit. The restaurant is clean, the owner is very nice, and it's a nice low key space to just enjoy a good meal with friends or family.

Upon arriving, every table was taken except our table w a reserved sign on it. The restaurant was bustling, but I could still hear my husband over the music and noise. The menu is huge!!! I didn't know where to start. But our server, Vanessa, helped us make a few choices. We started off w bánh xèo tostadas, bánh béo, & carpaccio. Then we had calamari and their steak special. I asked for a side of papaya slaw for some veggies. My favorite dish of the night was the carpaccio. So many flavors perfectly melded together. Loved the crunch of the fried onions and peanuts. 10/10 dish, in my opinion. Authentic banh xèo usually has an airier, crisp crepe, but theirs was more crunchy - great for their tostada take. Very flavorful. Each piece had one shrimp, but plenty of pork belly bites. The nuoc mam drizzled on it was tasty. Fried calamari - this is a big dish for, I believe, $'19. I prefer the dipping sauce on the side so that the batter doesn't get soggy. This did happen here, but it didn't stop us from finishing every last bite. The green sauce was good, not the usual dipping sauce for fried calamari. Steak special - they have another steak dish on their menu, but this one was pepper crusted w smashed potatoes. The potatoes were super crispy and flavorful and the steak was perfectly cooked - a beautiful pink medium rare. The portion was huge and justified the $39 price point. The staple steak dish came with a papaya slaw and I had to have it. It was bright and limey - I can see why they serve it with their steak. Bánh beo - my least favorite of the night. A bit thicker than I like. Still good, but there were a lot of other great dishes that I could easily pass on this one. Try their hibiscus artichoke tea.
