Superb service. They were extremely attentive and polite. Food came out in a timely manner, the checked up regularly and water was constantly refilled. This is a higher end fine dining restaurant so you should expect the portion sizes and price to be pretty comparable to a lot of other finer dining restaurants. Overall the food's flavor was fantastic. I ordered the king salmon clay pot. I thought the salmon was so tasty! They added pepper and sauce to the salmon - It was tender and flavorful and paired nicely with white rice. The quail (not pictured below) also was super flavorful and was cooked so well it tasted like beef. The soup was also light and refreshing, similar to a west lake soup. It was thicker consistency and had cilantro and chucks of lobster. The drinks served were also super balanced. We ordered the mojito and the dragon fruit cocktail. The mojito was the right balance between minty and sweet with just a hint of alcohol flavor. For the dragon fruit cocktail, it was very fruity, on the sweeter side but not overpowering and was topped with egg whites to give it a little bit of frothiness. After 5 attempts to visit Annam, we finally managed to make it. This one certainly lived up to its reputation! Started off with some cocktails - which were excellent across the board. The wine selection was very good as well. Mains were very good, though I have to confess that the highly rated shaken beef was just about OK. I expected more fire to it. What was the highlight, however, were the desserts. I would go so far as to say that their desserts were some of the best we've EVER eaten anywhere in the world - I would rate their desserts at least 2, maybe even 3 Michelin star worthy. read more

We really wanted to like this place more than we did. The restaurant itself is beautiful and located in the really nice autry park area. While the ambiance is great, seating arrangements could use some improvements -- we were sitting in the middle of the restaurant, in front of the front door, so caught the cold draft each time it was opened during winter - so we had to keep our jackets on for the meal. Here's what we got: Chili garlic prawns - 5/5 - delicious! Super flavorful and a nice spicy kick. Lemongrass lamb chop - 4/5 - this was good. Didn't quite taste the lemongrass. Ora king salmon clay pot - 3/5 - this looks beautiful and really unique, but the fish was really fishy. Dubai chocolate mousse/cake - 1/5 - not good. We ate one bite and left the rest. It was a short walk from the garage. I like the modern interiors and intimate booth seatings. Menu is very simple with a variety of traditional dishes with Vietnamese translations as well. We chose a few to share: - grilled wagyu wrapped betel leaves - imperial roll - pork jowl lettuce wrap - shaking fillet mignon - tofu king mushrooms clay pot I enjoyed everything we tried. My favorite was the fillet mignon and Wagyu wrapped in betel leaves. The meat melts in your mouth. We also got a bowl of rice on the side. It was a homey dinner but in an elevated scale. I'll be honest--I was really skeptical about this place. With the abundance of amazing Vietnamese food Houston has to offer, I wasn't sure why I'd choose an "elevated" Vietnamese restaurant. But my wife really wanted to try it, and after seeing it included in the Michelin Guide's recommendations, I figured... why not? The restaurant is located in Autry Park--an upscale part of Houston--and it definitely fits the vibe. The space is cute and stylish with thoughtful decor, fun furniture details, and a nice alcohol wall that adds to the atmosphere. We had reservations and were seated right away. Our server, Hung, was incredibly friendly and made the experience even better. We started with the Lobster Asparagus Soup, which was delicious--light, fresh, and comforting. The wagyu betel leaf was another standout: tender, flavorful beef, and the sauce really brought everything together. For mains, we ordered the shaking beef and the claypot Ora King salmon. The bò lúc lắc was honestly one of the best I've had in terms of ingredient quality--the beef was so tender I could probably eat it without teeth. The salmon was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. Sure, I know you can find similar dishes elsewhere for a fraction of the price, but it's hard not to appreciate the quality and execution here. To finish, we had the pandan coconut mousse cake, which was the perfect ending--not overly sweet and really well balanced. Okay - to start off, I have to say that there was not one dish I didn't like at Annam. Everything was so tasty, and the staff was so accommodating. We had a few dietary restrictions (nut allergies, eggplant allergies, no pork, and spicy intolerance for some of our folks), and our waitress was so kind as to fully go through the menu with us. The kitchen was also so kind to make a couple modifications to some dishes so that we would be able to enjoy them. The interior is also so beautiful and so tastefully decorated that it truly elevates the experience. This is what I expect from fine dining! For the food, we just had so many options we needed to try! We started out with the small plates: annam chicken wings, fried stuffed squash blossom, king salmon crudo, grilled prawn mango salad, and the lemongrass lamb chop. All were good. My favorite was probably the king salmon crudo followed by the lemongrass lamb chop and the annam chicken wings. While the fried stuffed squash blossom and grilled prawn mango salad were good too, it just wasn't as great/a little plain to me and probably not worth ordering again. But still tasty if those are your go-tos. For large plates/vegetarian dishes, we ordered the lemongrass tofu, the ora king salmon clay pot, the shaking filet mignon, and the free range chicken curry. Hands down the best dish was the shaking filet mignon. It was so tasty and definitely the star of the show. I also really loved the lemongrass tofu, very refreshing and light, and the ora king salmon clay pot, very savory, but the free range chicken curry was just okay to me. We did ask for a modification to remove the thai chili (for my grandma who dislikes spicy food), so maybe if it came as it was I would have enjoyed it better, but I just still think the other dishes were worth more. Annam completes its task successfully- by bringing the flavors that are authentic and identifying to Vietnamese cuisine and sharing it to a broader, Eurocentric palate. Most of its dishes remain true to the heart of Vietnam and would succeed if taken back home. Annam successfully combines existing Asian cuisines that made its way to the ranks of fine dining (Japanese, Chinese) and calls upon Central Vietnam's rich culture and history. Here is a list of what I highly recommend- - Goi ca. The plate is artfully plated with five small bites with vibrant yellow pedals, crispy shrimp chips, mint, cilantro, deep fried garlic and shallots, and a beautifully blended fish sauce dressing on top of a raw white fish. This interpretation of goi ca meets both criteria of tasting Vietnamese and having ceviche-like influence. Our party ordered 2 servings for 5 people. - Pork jowl wrap. Three pieces of pork jowl are fried and carefully knotted with a single piece of scallion, removing the painstaking task of combing ingredients together held together with a small piece of lettuce, a weekend tradition common in Vietnamese households. I taste banh hoi, pickled carrots and radish and a thin slice of mint. This wrap fits exactly in one or two bites, bringing an explosion of flavor and emulsifying the principals of salt, fat, and acid in perfect harmony. - Beef Tenderloin- not to be confused with bo luc lac. This appetizer brought out this restaurant's special fish sauce, a flavor more intense and aromatic than Red Boat or 3 Crabs. The sauce is immersed with a broth and shallots or scallion oil. The beef was soft and tender. It was after this dish that I recognized a fruity aftertaste to all of their vinaigrettes, a possibility of tamarind, pineapple, or the replacement of lime with lemon in the typical nuoc cham. read more

Annam is definitely one of the fanciest Vietnamese restaurants I've visited. It's ornately decorated, and the service was refined and friendly. The food was tasty and high quality, but with so many good Vietnamese restaurants in Houston, one is definitely paying for the ambiance and service. We had a couple of hiccups that made this a lower rating, especially for the expectations of a high caliber restaurant. For food: ** Pork jowl lettuce wrap: 1 piece per order, but if you just wanted to nibble for a taste, this could be shared as a 2 bites. Nice charcoal grilled flavor, but the pork was too fatty for me (MT loved it though!). The crisp clean taste of the veggies definitely helped with the fattiness. Nice to try~ ** Scallop with mango salsa: the scallop was nicely cooked and tender! The seared crust was definitely quite salty, but the salsa part helped cut the saltiness. Was a little wary of mango in this dish, but it was overall more of a sweet onion flavor. Would get again if it was less salty. ** Shaking filet mignon: beautifully presented with lots of greens. The meat was tender and just the right amount of chew, and it was elevated with the fresh lemon salt and pepper sauce. Small portion but big on taste, really enjoyed that one! ** Claypot king salmon: arrived and stayed piping hot in the claypot. This one is for salmon lovers-- the nuggets were so tender and melt in your mouth. I enjoyed the green onion and flavor the herbs added, but it was definitely on the salty side. There are pork cracklings with a fun "poofy" texture and burst of taste. I even learned what a fresh peppercorn bunch looks like! Definitely needed some rice (separate extra charge). The rice was warm and a delicate fluffy texture, yum! For service: Our waiter was polite and a bit quiet (not the most warm personality). He asked if we had any allergies to start, and we requested no cilantro in the dishes. And yet the dishes came with cilantro. We didn't say anything, but why did the waiter even ask? He also forgot the extra rice we ordered, and we were already halfway through with our entrees when it arrived. In contrast, the manager (?) was really friendly and stopped by each table to check in and chat. The staff ensured our waters were always filled to the top. To wrap it up, the host validated our parking before we walked out, but, the validation didn't work at the garage exit. So we ended up paying for parking. Overall, food was tasty-- a little too salty for me but probably flavorful and enjoyable to most. The fancy decor and comfortable booth seating gives one a calm relaxing space to enjoy some high quality fare. I wouldn't come back again because of the number of mishaps for such a nice restaurant (and for the price we paid), but it was nice to try. read more

I was excited to try out this new-ish spot after seeing them receive a bib gourmand. We had a 7:30 reservation for Saturday night and upon arrival they said that our table would be ready shortly and asked for us to wait at the bar. Well we waited, and waited, and waited. We asked the hostess and manager several times when our table would be ready to which they replied, "I don't know, we have several tables that should be getting up any minute". Meanwhile our drinks at the bar took a good 20 minutes to prepare. We were finally seated shortly after 8pm, which, if I wanted to eat at 8pm I would have made a reservation for 8pm. Once we were seated no one came to the table to take our order or give us water for almost 15 minutes until we got up to speak to the manager again. We let them know that we had a party that we needed to get to so we would like to place our order as quickly as possible. When our first course came out we ordered a second round of drinks and they let us know that the bar was very backed up but they would like to send us a complimentary bottle of champagne. This was very nice and the first time they offered compensation for the service, but the bottle of champagne also took 20 minutes to come out. For dinner we ordered the chicken wings, pork jowl lettuce wraps, wagyu betel leaf, chicken curry, shaking filet mignon and the vegetarian clay pot. The food was honestly very good with the betel leaf, shaking beef and vegetarian clay pot being table favorites, and maybe it was just an off night, but the service was so tough that I won't be recommending this restaurant to friends any time soon. read more

We ordered the spring rolls (which were so good - I may go there just to have a drink and to snack on these), the salmon dish, the scallops, and the bu luc loc. I would agree with some others that for the price, I found the dishes to be a bit small. Despite, the size, they were packed with flavor and I really did enjoy everything I had. Gorgeous restaurant serving gorgeous food. What better place to gather with my gorgeous friends than Annam? We enjoyed two different martinis: Ca Phe (coffee/espresso) and Lychee. To start, we had the fisherman's soup, which was light yet flavorful, and the pork jowl lettuce wraps which were rich, meaty, and complexly savory. We then had the Fried Whole Branzino, which was both visually and gustatorily stunning. It was crispy and well seasoned, with meaty flesh that was elevated by the bed of fresh vegetables and accompanying fish sauce. Also delicious were the Shitake Mushrooms in a Clay Pot, with its umami-rich sauce. Less exciting were the Shaking Filet Mignon (wonderfully tender, but it lacked flavor,) and the Skull Island Chili Garlic Prawns (underwhelming.) Dessert was mixed bag. I loved the Dubai Chocolate Mousse Cake but didn't care for the Coconut Pandan Mousse Cake. Service was excellent! She mentioned that they were still figuring out their lunch menu, and because one of our guests was her friend in HS, she cooked up some special bites for us. That alone, I feel that they actually care about their incoming customers. Food: amazing! Vietnamese food does have a strong taste and smell to it. My only advice is I wish they would tend more time for the food decoration to make each dish blend into their silverware plate. They're gorgeous! The taste is there, the setting of the dish may need a bit more refinement. Interior design of the place is without question gorgeous! It's soft, classy, bright, and colonial vibe. Since they locate across from another establishment with a pink car. My inner child scream motorbike or cyclo "xich lo" in the front. Their restaurant concept and design with the sliding doors in the restroom is just super cute and quaint. Came here Sunday night for dinner. They have nearby garage parking or valet parking. The ambiance here is very elegant - would say the most elegant upscale Vietnamese in the city. Hostesses were friendly and immediately took me to a charming booth at the back. The restaurant is not large, so it was nearly full. Our server was very amiable and thoroughly went over the menu. We opted for the betel leaf wagyu spring roll, the Vietnamese crepe, and the shaking filet mignon. The spring roll was presented beautifully, sliced and arranged on a porcelain dish. They were bite sized. The Vietnamese crepe came with greens on the side, so we rolled them up and enjoyed with the tasty sauce that accompanied. The filet was super tender and flavorful. We saw this place on social media and have to give it a try - this was one of the rare instances where we came in with high expectations and they exceeded that. Food: we ordered half the menu and they were all pretty amazing - Grilled Quail (my favorite thing on the entire menu), Fish & Shrimp Tamarind Soup, Pork Jowl Wrap, Lemon Grass Clam Soup, Shrimp Mango Salad, the Salmon Claypot and ended with the lychee cloud cake. The flavors were well balanced and tasted very authentic. The cocktails were also delicious (mango mojito and signature cocktail) and we even got a bottle of their sparkling wine (they have very reasonably priced selection of wine) Service: 10/10 they checked on us frequently and gave us tips on how to eat some of the dishes. Dining at An Nam is an experience. I won't even talk about the ambience because I've never been to another Vietnamese restaurant that even comes close to it. U have to see it in person because pictures don't do it any justice. If u prefer quality over quantity, this place is for u. I can guaranty u won't find another Vietnamese restaurant like this anywhere else. Imagine all your favorite Vietnamese dishes, but made with the best ingredients available. I'm not a picky eater, but I DO prefer the better cuts of meat and the freshest fish from the sea. My absolute fav is the roasted branzino and quail. I don't usually like quails because it's usually very dry, barely have any meat on them, and sometimes gamey! An Nam's quail is deboned, tender, plump, and juicy. I also stay away from lamb because of the smell but the lamb here is amazing! We tried a lot of stuff and everything was so good but the quail, lamb chops, steak, imperial roll, and of course canh chua & cá kho, and ANY dish with fish in it was superior. I am a fish snob because my husband is a fisherman, we are used to eating fish from the ocean to table. I don't order fish at restaurants because I am sensitive to smells when the fish is not freshly caught, but leave it to An Nam to prepare the freshest and superior fish dishes. First off, the restaurant is absolutely stunning -- ideal for a date night or special occasion. The signature cocktail was a standout, with a perfectly balanced blend of savory, tart, and sweet. My favorite dishes were the Vietnamese crepe, grilled Wagyu wrapped in betel leaf, tofu and mushroom clay pot, and the shaking filet -- all savory and full of flavor. The fisherman soup was a hit or miss depending on each person's palate, though the seafood itself was undeniably fresh. I enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't order again. The fried shrimp squash blossom was the least popular dish of the night -- fine to sample, but at $9 each, just split 1 for 2 people to share. read more

The food was INCREDIBLE! I was worried due to having a fish and nut allergy, but they were so accommodating and eager to please! Each dish we ordered was 10/10. Our waiter gave great recommendations, and we were so delighted with how hospitable the staff were and how amazing the food is. As a Vietnamese, I am amazed how Annam Restaurant keeps their food truly authentic while still making it easy for people who are new to Vietnamese cuisine. The flavors are exactly how they should be -- fresh, balanced, and comforting. It's the perfect spot to introduce friends to real Vietnamese food without overwhelming them. Great atmosphere, great service. Cocktails, however, was sup-bar to me, as they were pretty light or too sweet for my taste. Still highly recommend! read more

Worst new restaurant in years? They sat us in a hallway that's been converted into seating - only to stare at a white wall with cheap mural on it. By ourselves. No one near us - which defeats the point of going out. Gives off a vibe of shady behavior to make a few extra bucks a night. Food service resulted in appetizers being served LAST as if forgotten. I got my main dish 10min before my wife. The waiter seemed to forget about us - probably because we were perched behind a wall. Decor is luxury... but on the cheap. Tiles do not match well. Baseboard trim is an old style picked from clearance somewhere. Everything has this same vibe --- CHEAP. Our experience was basically terrible. One and done. read more

Annam is a Vietnamese restaurant on the ground floor of a luxury apartment building complex. Nice to see how the other half lives! We were nearby and came here for a small dinner. Menu is fairly compact with lots of the dishes you would expect. No pho here. Prices are a lot cheap than back home in San Francisco. The food was better than expected. Service was friendly and helpful. Someone was never too far away to help. Food Review: Annam Signature cocktail ($18) definitely showed its Vietnamese roots. Salty plum flavors and more. 8.5/10 Grilled Prawn - Mango Salad ($28) had 2 large prawns and lots of mango salad. Nicely done. 8.5/10 Vegetarian Clay Pot ($23) was also well done. Good variety of eggplant, tofu and mushrooms. Must add rice or vermicelli noodles ($3) to sop up all the gravy.
