ca kho, canh chua and egg viet iced coffee.
    Cindy M.

We ordered ca kho, canh chua, and egg viet iced coffee. Everything was so flavorful and rich. They also serve with a side of sliced Thai chili peppers which I LOVED with the fish sauce as dip. The coffee was a little sweet for me.

Hands down so delicious!!! Authentic Vietnamese food! Claypot everything! Loved claypot pork belly and catfish!!! So moist and juicy! The flavors are so rich and delicious! They carefully crafted every Meal so well! I highly recommend it! The sweet and sour shrimp with vegggie soup wasn't super sour but cooked to perfection! The shrimps are cut well so it's easy to eat!! They also give a huge pot of rice! Highly recommend this cute Vietnamese cafe serving delicious food! You know when it's good when there's viet people in here! Parking is abundant here as well!! Customers service A+ servers are not only welcoming but respectful and nice!!

I'm in love with catfish cooked in clay pots, and I'm still mourning the closure of Tay Do. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, and the ambiance is pretty standard for an Asian restaurant. The waiter was friendly and we were served quickly. The eggrolls were piping hot and the skin was slightly bubbly which I love. The filling was also well seasoned and not too peppery. I'm always hunting for a great egg roll and you can tell that these are made in house. No rice cake I've ever tried has come close to the one from Tan Tan, but their rice cake was crispy and came with pickled vegetables and two dipping sauces. Not as good as Tan Tan, but still extremely enjoyable with a nice twist. The claypot catfish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was nicely caramelized and scrumptious. Unfortunately, not as good as Tay Do, but definitely one of the best I have had in Houston. My diagnosis: come here for claypot catfish and mom's eggrolls

Bun Dau Mam Tom: this was a bit different compared to other restaurants I've had it at! The sausages were new to me, but very flavorful. The noodles being cube blocks was also quite novel to me. I think I prefer my noodles to be separated. The fermented sauce was deliciously funky. Grilled Mackerel with lemongrass: this was a skip to me. The mackerel was a bit dry and not very flavorful. The fish sauce was definitely carrying, but I did like the wide assortment of vegetables, herbs, and fruit on the side. Canh Chua: Some of the best I've had. Very balanced sweet and tangy broth with a good amount of tender catfish and vegetables. Probably my favorite dish! Clay pot rice: Crispy at the bottom and fluffy. Not sure if I'd order it again to be honest. Not much different compared to other forms of cooked rice. Fried Shrimp with taro: this surprised me. I really enjoyed this and I'm usually not a shrimp fan. Very crispy and delightful. Wide assortment of vegetables and herbs. Loved the dipping sauce. Ca Kho: just about what you'd expect... tastes like homemade cooking. Fatty and tender fish. Sweet, savory, very flavorful.

A bit far from where I live but the clay pot fish alone was worth the drive. Nicely caramelized and tender. Not a big space so may be a wait on busy nights. Everything was well cooked and not under or over seasoned. Service was quick, food came out quick. Def recommended for clay pot fish.

My mom and I always had plans to visit Com Nieu, but something always comes up. A group of friends were hungry, and one suggested this restaurant and I was not opposed since it was on my list to try. The parking lot was crazy, they had a car show next shopping center over (R&B teahouse) and their parking lot was full, their customer improvised and parked in com nieu's lot. This caused a huge issue for all of us, and some of our friends decided to go elsewhere. The food reminded me of my childhood years, felt like I was right at home eating Vietnamese comfort food. We had goi bo tai chanh (beef carpaccio), canh chua ca (Vietnamese sweet & sour soup with catfish), rau muong xao toi (water spinach with garlic), thit ba chi kho to (caramelized pork belly), ca phao mam tom (pickled baby eggplants with shrimp paste sauce), and tom chien hoang bao (shrimp wrapped with fried taro). The dishes also came with a side of rice, but since we had several people with us, we had to ask for more white rice, and there was an extra charge for that. Everything dish we ordered I enjoyed. My favorite was pork belly, pickled baby eggplants with the funky shrimp paste sauce (iykyk) and the bo tai chanh that also come with a funky sauce. I guess you can say I like anything that comes with funky sauce. One negative comment - the restaurant was hot, not sure if they had AC issues, the portal fan did not do much help. It's June and we live in Houston, so the heat was kind of unbearable. The restaurant was smaller than I imagined, but the vibes (minus the ac) was great, thanks to the friendly staff and sweet owner.

When my parents told me they wanted me to select a new restaurant to try I was stressed out since they hated the last two places I suggested. However, I decided to visit (Duc) Fooddeelious' IG for inspiration since my parents normally like his recommendations and picked this place! Luckily this guess was right because my parents loved this place! Food: 4.5 Chicken Salad: 5 I was surprised how big the salad was! I loved the sauce that was drizzled onto the salad! It wasn't too sweet and had amazing crunchy salad texture! Pork belly:4 The pork belly is always caramelized well and it's a perfect pairing with the other dishes since it has a rich umami flavor! It can be a bit salty so I'd pair it with a soup or salad! Environment: 5 This place was really clean for an authentic restaurant.

Having traveled to Vietnam several times over the years, Com Nieu Houston gives off similar vibes to the homey cafes available all over the country. The place is casual, group friendly, has a nice staff, and most importantly, serves really excellent food. It's not big, but offers a good amount of natural lighting with tables setup for groups. The last time I was here, the AC wasn't working so well and things felt a little stuffy (#1) despite multiple fans in the background. When in doubt, sit against the wall where there are mini wall unit ACs. The clean bathrooms get a thumbs up. Food wise, there's so much to appreciate. The appetizers have a few standouts and I am so happy to have sampled all of them. Their bap nep xao bo ($13) is a nice heap of sauteed corn with dried shrimp and a generous dose of butter. The bot chien trung ($14) is a texture laden rice flour cake with eggs and goes perfectly with their fish sauce. I'd be lying if I didn't think their "moms eggrolls" were wonderfully fried and provided the best crunch. I also got to try their ga hap hanh gung ($19), which reminds me a bit of poached chicken with ginger scallion. It was a bit cold and skimpy meat wise, so this was the least liked dish on this end. Their bun dau mam tom combo ($20), which has all the funk from the mam (#2) and plenty of shrimpy flavor. Their biggest highlight has to be their signature caramelized catfish claypot ($16-20) aka ca bong lau kho to. It was just sweet enough to be candy, but hearty enough to make it a must try for all visits. The fish was wonderfully fatty and was the perfect main course for all the rice. The caramelized pork belly bowl ($17) is equally tasty and I appreciated the bits of shrimp in the bowl as well. Another outstanding but simple dish was their goi ga ($19), which was a nice salad with pickled herbs, strips of chicken with a little bit of sour and sweet all rolled into one bite. My large group and I would have wanted seconds on this if we could. We also opted for their lau for their canh chua ($25), which was a nice sweet and sour soup with their catfish. Rounded it off with mix xao ($14) stir fried noodles, and a round of drinks that included Vietnamese iced coffee ca phe sua da ($5) and their sua tuoi ca phe suong sao ($6), which was a Vietnamese coffee with black grass jelly. Overall, it's been a couple of outstanding experiences here with a friendly owner and robust staff. I would caution folks from over ordering since the tables aren't large enough to accommodate many plates, but I encourage all who enjoy a wide variety of Vietnamese foods to come check this place out. __________ (#1) Just like in Vietnam. (#2) a super funky, distinctive shrimp paste sauce.

The ambiance was the capturing and detracting element. In the hot humid Houston heat, this restaurant really highlighted the dining experience of eating in a stuffy restaurant in Vietnam with little a/c and just floor fans blowing around hot air. This is all happening while enjoying some very solid clay pot rice and stewed fish dishes. The Canh Chua had such a good portion of fish that was super fresh and not fishy at all. The flavor of the broth was the perfect balance of sweet, sour and salty. I wish the stewed pork belly was a little more "melt in your mouth" but the flavor of the sauce was all there. We tried one of their special platters and it is super unique and good for the shrimp paste lovers

Food - 10/10 unfortunately I didn't take a pic of the menu or take the name down, but as you can see from my photo, this is what I ordered. I'd had the mackerel one about a year ago and enjoyed that one. I wanted to try the version with shrimp and it does not disappoint. Great flavors. I've ordered the braised catfish to go because that was phenomenal when I had it the last time. Service -10/10 was a bit slow but it was busy. The woman how took my order was lovely. Ambiance - 10/10 I like the decorations in here, very happy (not sure how else to describe it ) I'll be coming back.

Yum. I had a good family meal here. The service was friendly, restaurant was clean, and food came out pretty quickly too. My favorites were the bot chien trung, chicken salad, shaken beef, the clay pot dishes, and the coffee with grass jelly. We might have over-ordered with 9 dishes for 6 of us, but everything we got was tasty except for the veg dish served with shrimp paste - the mam tom was extra pungent in that one. They were out of com nieu when we dined in, but I wish we got to try!

This restaurant is now the level of customer service I compare all restaurants to! We had dinner here for the first time in February and ordered the Tôm Chiên Hoàng Bào and it came with rice paper. We have never used rice paper so needless to say we looked like a bunch of rookies haha. The staff saw us struggling and came over to give us a hands on lesson on how to use the rice paper! He put gloves on and gave us a full 5 minute introductory lesson without even being asked. I was so impressed and grateful customer service 10/10! The food also a 10/10 the wrapped shrimp is my favorite dish and to be honest it's so much food it's an entire meal on its own. The flan and all of the house made drinks coffee /teas and amazing. This restaurant is definitely on my top 10 list of 2025 restaurants

They ordered a strip steak, salmon, and a salad, and I didn't hear a single complaint from their side of the table. The staff were incredibly friendly and made a point of welcoming me as an actual guest instead of just someone's dog. Between the dedicated dog menu, the spacious patio, and the warm service, it's easy to see why this place is so popular with pet owners. The pork floss, lettuce, Chinese sausage, and white sauce paired so well all together. The rice was perfectly chewy and the portion was generous. Their sides of dressing, sweet candied yams, mac and cheese, and fried green tomatoes make for a perfectly complete meal. Even the cornbread is outstanding, which is really saying something. My wife and I have been to WC several times before for lunch, happy hour, and dinner but this was our first time for brunch. We had 1pm reservations and the sky looked like it was going to pour down ran any moment. Our hostess was very kind and let us pick the table we wished to sit in order to get a good view of the bar and windows to keep an eye on the weather and the arrival of our family members. Our server, Dane, was in top form and gave us suggestions for a starter. We were torn between the Jalapeno-gouda biscuits, Candied Bacon and other tasty sounding dishes and quickly agreed the Goat Cheese Fondue. The dish arrived shortly after our whole party was seated. Dane had great presentation as he drizzled olive oil over the steamy, bubbling cheese dish that looked amazing, smelled wonderful, and tasted even better. Melted goat goat cheese with a blend of olives, roasted tomatoes, garlic confit and thyme that we generously spread over warm toast points. It was all devoured in no time. Dane returned to clear our plates and took our order. The brunch menu is an exploration in so many things to suit your breakfast or lunch craving. We ordered the Strawberry Short Stack, the Hangover Burger, Brunch Sandwich, and the Steak and Egg Hash. Out of curiosity we also ordered a side of the Green Chile Cheese Grits. My wife and I love to share so the Strawberry Short Stack and Brunch Sandwich were perfect for dividing. Those pancakes are picture perfect, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweet. Interestingly, Dane had asked if we wanted the toppings of strawberry compote, vanilla anglaise, whipped strawberry butter, and lemon shortbread crumble on the side so we could control the sweetness. For us that was the perfect suggestion as we were able to individually taste each accoutrement to build our perfect bite. The Brunch Sandwich was fantastic. Sometimes a breakfast sandwich can appear to be unwieldy but in this case it was manageable to cut in half and handle appropriately, The everything bagel was the right vehicle for this savory bite of fried-medium egg, layered with applewood smoked bacon, pickled Fresno peppers (for nice pop of spice), greens, american cheese, and a garlic-basil aioli. I didn't taste the Hangover Burger nor the Steak and Egg Hash, perhaps because I was a bit gorged on the pancakes and sandwich but the dishes looked amazing and I have a mental shortlist for the next time we dine at WC. Oh, and I did mention that we were curious about the Green Chile Cheese Grits. Out of this world! Those grits stole the show. We all kept commenting on them. Get them. You will be rewarded. When we dine we always expect good food. For us, service is the reason to come back. Dane was an outstanding server. He had personality and hospitality which is rare these days. He was conversationally engaging. He never lingered too long, always seemed to anticipate what we might need, politely asking to clear plates. Hat's off to Dane. My group was looking forward to trying some items that we previewed on the menu prior to our arrival. However, there were a few menu options that were not available to order due to being sold out.

Every drink was flavorful, well balanced, and strong without being overpowering. The flight was a great way to try multiple flavors. For appetizers, the salmon bites were seasoned perfectly and fried just right -- crispy on the outside and tender inside. They came with a chipotle aioli, which was already fire, but dipping them in the bourbon glaze took them to another level. The chicken tacos were fully loaded, flavorful, and definitely didn't miss. The entrees were the real stars. The oxtails with cabbage and rice were absolutely amazing -- fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor. Easily my favorite dish of the night. The southern fried chicken plate was also top tier and came with three sides: mashed potatoes, yams, and mac and cheese. All three sides were seasoned well and tasted like true comfort food. To top it all off, Friday night karaoke made the experience even better. 504 Karaoke brought great energy, good music, and fun vibes in between sets, which kept the atmosphere lively all night. Between the food, drinks, and entertainment, Konami Bar & Grill delivered a great overall experience. I'd definitely recommend this spot for a fun night out with good food and great vibes, and I'll absolutely be back.

Luckily for you, I visited this place so you wouldn't have to!…read more I cringe at this place. Sticky tables and floors, dirty menus, dusty dishes and ceilings. Tiny bathrooms- can't get in and out without touching something. Our waitress was a few weeks in and tried her best. The fountain drinks were absolutely disgusting and needed to be recalibrated. I settled with the only bottled soft drink available to be safe, a root beer with 79 grams of sugar! The Bakers Special pizza was a greasy and sloppy mess and instantly fell apart just by looking at it. It had mondo chunks of meat that didn't pair well with the sauce. My husband recommended this place from his visit a few years ago but it clearly went downhill. It's an old dilapidated mess. Cushion chairs were 20+ years old with sticky stains and butt intentions on them. It was giving biker bar and made me very uncomfortable. I was afraid I'd get sick just being in the environment. The patrons were old, obnoxious perverts. Someone even brought their dog in there (not a service dog). I couldn't overlook it's condition and the food wasn't any better. There are definitely way better options on Westheimer. EEEEYUCK!

They had some off nights too, like the time I went in at around 11 pm and a very salty, old waitress (she was a hag) said, "f--- this! I'm not serving anyone!" She started putting chairs on top of tables. That was long ago. Today, the place is dirty and dusty. Little gnats fly around trying to get into your drink. Pizza is either undercooked or too charred. On this occasion, undercooked and just gross. Expensive too. The last few times I've been, it was burnt. Maybe there's something wrong with their oven. Rough crowd too. Their clientele has gotten way worse. Don't think I'll ever go back.
