I've been going to Hwangs ATA for several months now and I really enjoy the environment and classes they have to offer. The adult kickboxing program ran by Master Jonathan is both great training and great fun! He knows how to integrate team spirit and fun into technical workouts. The studio is located in Yorba Linda and offers a variety of martial arts classes for various ages. I highly recommend trying it out! I have watched Master Ken Hwang and his team for two of his three decades of teaching and mentoring. He outshines many others because he is able to convey martial arts teachings that help kids and adults alike in life. Kids can feel that Master Hwang genuinely cares about each and every one of them. He has extraordinary patience, but can take that extra step to push your child. It's this balance that gives students such an empowered feeling when they learn what they can overcome. Parents love seeing the change in their child resulting from deepening degrees of confidence. The adults: both those that choose to make the journey to black belt, and those that enjoy watching his classes through the years, have so much respect for Master Ken and the instructors he produces. Connected through martial arts, the adults have formed a Taekwondo family that I can remember being strong back in the 90's and I still see continuing to grow, generation after generation of families. These kicking and punching moms and dads to this day are close, no matter the distance from where and when we all came together. For him, Taekwondo comes naturally and he grew up practicing it; this understanding helped him instill discipline and confidence in my son, using martial arts as the tool to do so. My son's grade school teachers over the years had the same compliments on how focused my son was and his ability to continue to set and acheive his goals. Master Hwang did not nurture these skills in my son just by yelling commands in the Taekwondo studio. He can relate the "how" and "why" questions to the concepts behind practicing drills and techniques. Practice is important here and he has been a huge influence in developing my son from an honor roll--to AP student--to pre-med college grad... and 3 year old tiny tiger--to state champ--to Taekwondo world champion. There is always a welcoming environment at Master Hwang's studio. The staff is very good at teaching students in terms they can understand and ensuring that the students grow as martial artists and as people. Many lessons are learned here and I couldn't imagine training under the guidance of better instructors. Hands down the best place around! read more

Master Ken's class taught me quite a significant amount about self defense, respect, form, but most importantly, discipline. Many other great lessons will be learned here that can only be taught through a martial arts school. The environment is friendly, welcoming, and extremely positive. This is a great school - a real gem. One of my sons has studied ATA Taekwondo at the school for three years and just earned his black belt. I've been taking lessons myself for a couple years now and can say from the perspective of both parent and student that all the instructors are very good teachers and extremely impressive martial artists. My wife and I looked around at a couple different schools before we found Hwang's ATA, and it was immediately clear to us that the learning environment here is a cut above the rest. The standards are high, discipline and respect are always expected, and the classes are rigorous, but the atmosphere is positive and uplifting. That's true of student interactions as well as the teacher/student relationships. There is a sense of community at the dojang that I think is rare. When tests for rank advancement come around, students seem to genuinely root for each other. Perhaps most impressive of all is the example that is set by the teenage students for the younger kids. As a parent I am very happy to have my little guys rub shoulders with teens and tweens who are polite, motivated, and clearly engaged in the pursuit of a worthy goal, be it rank advancement, tournament standing, or simply improved technique. That kind of peer interaction is a precious commodity nowadays. The fact that it's happening while the kids are learning self defense and self discipline makes it that much better. So there's my review: great teachers, great students, great experience. I'd give Hwang's ATA six stars if I could. read more
