Hyatt Regency Long Island: A Beautiful Mirage with a Heart of Darkness There's a particular kind of beauty that only exists from a distance. The Hyatt Regency Long Island has that kind of beauty. From the outside, the place rises like a modernist monolith--imposing, regal even. You drive up and think, "Alright, this'll do. Maybe even better than do." It gives off the air of a hotel that knows what it's doing. But like a well-plated dish hiding a rotten center, it all unravels the moment you step inside. Let's start with the elevators, because you will. And you will wait. And wait. And begin to question if the concept of vertical movement was ever fully mastered here. They move like they've been cursed--slow, confused, occasionally absent. You'll grow intimately familiar with the walls of the lobby, because you're going to see a lot of them. Then came the blackouts. Actual power outages. Not once. Not twice. The lights go out. The AC dies. You're standing there half-shaved with a toothbrush hanging out of your mouth like a lunatic, wondering if this is all some postmodern escape room. The second outage lasted all night. Nothing like lying in a sweltering, airless room to make you reflect on your life choices and the illusion of comfort in modern travel. You think that's the worst of it. And then the fire alarm goes off. Loud. Insistent. The kind of sound that makes your spine want to jump out of your body. Everyone's herded outside like cattle during a thunderstorm. No explanation. No apologies. Just blinking guests, clutching phones and half-zipped bags, standing in the Long Island humidity wondering if the world is ending or if the toaster just misfired. Eventually we're allowed back in, only for the alarm to go off again. Just a little encore to remind us that serenity is not on the menu here. Look, I've slept in some dives. I've had rats chew on my boots in Vietnam and been nearly electrocuted by a shower in rural Nicaragua. But there's something particularly jarring when a place that pretends to be luxurious is, in fact, a Kafkaesque fever dream of poor infrastructure and corporate indifference. To their credit, the staff did their best. They always do. But they're working on a sinking ship, bailing water with a thimble. The Hyatt Regency Long Island: looks like a palace, runs like a haunted DMV. Would I stay again? Only if it came with a side of existential dread and a bottle of whiskey. And maybe that's exactly what they were serving. 2 stars because the customer service was great.

I was in town to celebrate a close friend's 60th birthday. Upon arrival it was apparent that the elevators were not working and the service elevators were working sporadically at best. M On my second morning at the hotel, in my room, I got up out of bed around 6:30 am to see why the room was so cold. In the room was a solid marble top pedestal table that I bumped into. I fell to my hands and knees and the heavy topped table proceeded to fall on the fingers of my left hand. The result was an extremely painful breaking of the middle finger of my left hand. I immediately called the front desk, who advised me to come down. When I finally got to the front desk, due to ALL elevators being down at that time, the front desk employee had me write an incident report. After completing the report the front desk worker suggested I go to the nearest urgent care as it looked like my finger was broken. Although the urgent care was decent, being from out of town and having out of state insurance, I had to pay the bill out of pocket which was a substantial expense. The urgent care doctor had to insert a needle through my fingernail (incredibly painful) to relieve the pressure of the swollen bloody broken finger. Beware. Avoid this hotel!

When reading the other reviews, I can't believe I was staying at the same hotel. The front staff was very nice. The room was very clean and the maid even came by with extra towels. I think some of the complaints come from bridal parties that are very very demanding because the woman next-door to me was complaining about the air-conditioning yet when I went to her room, the air conditioning was just fine. It's a shame that this is a nice hotel and people are complaining especially if they are in a group. The lobby is beautiful and bar staff is very nice. I'm a Hyatt member and I could stay at other hotels but I would always stay at this hotel.

For a four star hotel you would think they would change the sheets and not have their paying customers sleeping on BLOOD, an actual bio hazard. DISGUSTING blood on the pillow where i laid my head and blood splattered. Then when you go to the front desk all they can offer you is a crappy breakfast no updated room or money off. DONT GO

Here we go, So I never knew about this hotel until my nephew told me about it. I inquired on booking.com and got a room for 5 nights for my mom who came into town for Mother's Day. I thought because it was the Hyatt it would be expensive. Nope. Other hotels were more than the Hyatt I was surprised. Anyway, I realized it was located on Motor Pkwy. So as I drove to the hotel I realized it was right down the street from Cablevision. In all the years I have been on Long Island never knew about this hotel. It is beautiful. You can see Stony Brook Hospital from this hotel. It's on a hill. It looks as though they are building condos right next to the hotel. Sorry, I didn't take more pics. Customer service was fantastic. Didn't get room service but there was a small Cafe in the waiting area . Great selections of snacks. Housekeeper was so nice. Even though my room was kept clean hose keeper still came in to tidy up. As I mentioned before pricing was great. Other amenities didn't get to them however they had a party for the guest on Sunday night. People were everywhere dancing and having a great time. Overall this hotel is my new go-to place for peace and quiet time. I will be visiting again soon.

Recently stayed here while visiting family. A little bit further out from Queens. Hyatt Regency always does good. Free parking is always nice and plenty of it. Quiet area located on a golf course. As you entered the lobby you could find a fruit-infused water station. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Although there was an event going on it couldn't be heard in your hotel room which was nice. The hotel suite was clean and intact. Spacious rooms, good room service, and a peaceful nights rest. All in all good stay. Would stay again if I don't mind driving a bit more. Only downside was that one of the elevators seemed to need service because as soon as the doors opened it seemed to quickly close.

Vomit from elevators and on rug left unclean till next day

Highly disappointed abs disgusted that this hotel. It gives a bad name to a "regency hotel", especially since it is used a lot of weddings. Came here September 10 to spend the evening after a friend's wedding of mine and we got decent prices since it was blocked for her wedding. When we checked in, we saw that it was busy and had about 6/7 other wedding parties' guests staying there that evening since we saw welcome and thank you bags all set up behind the check in counter. Checking in was easy and we went upstairs to place our things before the reception The hallways were not numbered properly and some of the number for the "direction" of the rooms were fallen off on some floors, which made locating our room confusing. Unfortunately, when we came back roughly around 1230am, the front area lobby and seating area smelt like vomit. Now it is understandable that people will get drunk and might get sick? , but i was highly disgusted with the way the hotel's housekeeping handled their job. I went to complain 3x about the vomit being located not only in the front doors/floors of the elevator, but there was also VOMIT IN 2/3 ELEVATORS!!! We got out the third floor and there was even more vomit on the rug once the doors opened for our floor! When i went to complain i even tried to ask the security for help and he gave me a dirty look with the girl he was flirting with. I got vomit on my feet, shoes (which i had to toss) and my expensive dress. So disgusted. No one cleaned it up and to make it worst, i smelt it all stay in my room! No one took initiative to clean it DURING COvid! It's a pandemic and they decided to think it was ok to leave bacteria floating in the air for others to breathe in. When we checked out at 12, all they did was place towels over the vomit and it was still there. When i called to complain about it (and wanting a refund), they told me they could only offer me 8,00 points which was a one night stay at the hotel. I told them i didn't want that abs they transferred me to a higher person via email. I was then told that they couldn't do anything but NOW offer me 3000 points in rewards. NOT ONLY DID THEY NOT ADMIT FAULT or want to refund me in some way, THEY OFFERED ME LESS THE SECOND TIME AROUND!!! Horrible customer service. I wrote back and it has been about 3 weeks since I've heard from them. POINT IF STORY. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL IF YOU CARE ABOUT HYGIENE. I KNOW THEY PRACTICAL BC OF THIER NAME BUT THEY DO NOT hold to its name. See my photos for proof.

Don't touch anything! The duct tape may not keep it together!

When we contacted the hotel again, to fight this, bc this was mother natures fault, Kaitlyn Young, from Hampton inn said we needed to contact Expedia again bc they were the reason for denial. We contacted Expedia, and spent an hour and half waiting, and Expedia said that Kaitlyn from the hotel was the one who denied a refund. So Kaitlyn was trying to blame Expedia. However, Kaitlyn, was the one who denied. She rushed me off the phone and said call Expedia. We even said we would rebook, at that moment, if they could transfer the money we paid over, so we didn't lose it since this was weather related. Kaitlyn tried to pass the buck off to Expedia and meanwhile Kaitlyn was the one who denied not Expedia! We even said we will pay a penalty, but give us something. Kaitlyn did not care, she just wanted our money, and if we died in the snowstorm she didn't care. All they care about is taking our money for a room that we aren't going to stay in.

The desk and cabinets are noticeably tired and old, and the ceilings are still popcorn (aren't those the ceilings accompanied by asbestos warnings?). The room you first walk into consists of an L-couch, coffee table, TV, desk, and kitchenette with stovetop and a full size refrigerator. The towels are rough and not at all fluffy. The toiletries in the bathroom consist of a bar of soap, and pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower (tea tree shampoo, lemon sage conditioner and body wash). Strangely, the toiletries do NOT include lotion. They no longer carry lotion, I was told, as of about a year and a half ago. So if you are prone to dry skin (which I am), BRING YOUR OWN LOTION. I did call the front desk to request some, and they were able to scrounge up a couple residual bottles which they kindly brought up to our room. A luggage stand is another item (other than body lotion) noticeably missing in the room. The bed is uncomfortable (too bouncy), and for some reason, in a one bedroom suite, is queen rather than king sized. The pillows are hard. The sheets/blanket were very strange. There is a flat sheet, and then an extremely thin blanket (no duvet cover). Overall, the bed left much to be desired. In the room we stayed in, there is a small locked closet which houses the heater. It was EXTREMELY loud every time it went on (which it often did, as it is winter, and we kept the thermostat at 73F). If you are a light sleeper I would imagine that this would be a problem. It's unreasonably loud.
