This is my favorite spot to get plants for our home. They have everything you could need and they have so many plants you can pick from. When we go there Billy and Fernando always help us pick what's best for the spot we put the plant taking into consideration the sunlight and space. They give us clear instructions on how to take care of the plant and even give us some tips on what to do if they're not growing. We've taken different sized potters before and they've refilled them with soil and planted our plant in their for us. Every time Fernando does that for us, I can feel how much he cares about the plant. He treats them so delicately and you can see that he has a passion for growing things. They also have beautiful flowers bouquets they can make if you're looking for something fancy. Prices are reasonable for NYC standards. It's expensive but I don't think you'd find anything different in the city. read more

My wife brought a beautiful plant from here that has lasted for more than a year. She's preparing to do some cuttings and as part of that needed a little extra dirt. On our way back from Central Park we stopped in to buy some but they had 3 sizes, the smallest being much more than we needed. When we explained this to the guys there, they opened a bag, have us a small pot and filled it with dirt. They refused any money, so my wife quickly explained that it was for a plant we bought from them at the old location. The head person simply said "don't worry about it." These are the gestures that make a shop great. Next time we're looking for a plant or a large bouquet for someone, we'll be going here. read more

I do not know if he is a partner or just works there but she differs to him for all decisions. He isn't at all pleasant. They do have a very large selection and a great variety of plants. I needed to buy a bouquet and gave them a call to confirm their hours and get a quote for a simple bouquet. Walked in the next day and got the same quote and was patiently walked through my different options (I pick the flowers, I give them colors and they put it together for me based on a price, etc.) It's a neat little shop with both flowers and potted plants for sale. If you want to pick your own flowers, the prices for individual stems are clearly posted on the refrigerator. I told them I was going to a bridal shower and they suggested a color scheme for me. They put a beautiful bouquet together based on my budget and added some water to make sure the flowers would last until they were moved to a vase. Well stocked shop, but the prices are really exorbitant! I know it's the Upper East Side/Yorkville and I want to support small, local shops, but their prices are unacceptable to anyone who knows what a living plant should cost. Maybe they have to charge so much because the rent costs so much. This shop is literally across the street from me and I, being a plant addict, would shop here if I didn't feel like I was being gouged. Example: 1 medium sized succulent in a plastic nursery pot cost $15-30, when you can get the same plant at the farmers market, Home Depot or Whole Foods for $8 or $5. No price tags are ever displayed, so you have to ask about each one and they can charge whatever they feel like. I'm always disappointed to hear the price, as it's much higher than I feel the plant is worth. It's a shame, but they really do have a variety of nice, healthy looking and pretty plants if you don't care about the price at all. read more

I went to Hybrid Florists to pick out some house plants with my gf. Our apartment gets very little natural light so we were looking for some plants that could survive in the shade. The staff was so kind and helped us pick out four beautiful snake plants!! They also re-potted the plants for us and gave us detailed watering instructions. It was an excellent experience and our plants are thriving! I enjoyed my experience so much that I went back to get a bouquet for my gf. I got a magnificent gift, an arched Orchid plant delivered. Due to the large amount of cooking I do, the fluctuations in temperature caused the plant to wilt. The owner Chris was beyond nice and offered a brand new Orchid plant in it's place. The same thing happened again, and he gave me 2 preserved Roses in glass. The new location is able to display the plants in a much nicer setting including an outdoor area. The service was great, he was knowldegable about all the plants.Although no longer on a Main Street, I hope they attract enough business because it's worth going. I needed a few plants in a pinch, and since it was Valentine's Day and I had limited time on one of the busiest florist holidays of the year, I felt stuck. I got a pothos, an ivy, and a dozen roses, and the total bill was $250. Exorbitant! I stopped by to look for a mint plant, and I was thrilled that they were selling herbs for $6 a plant. I had bought a bunch of herbs (3 for $10) at the Union Square Greenmarket this past weekend, but they had run out of mint by then. This was a little more expensive, but I happened to get a larger flowering mint than the other perky small mints that were available. As I was waiting to pay, I noticed that the owner gave a beautiful blue rose to a longtime customer. Aww. He was really nice and patient with my questions, and even introduced himself to me. I was put to the task of locating a florist in the UES who could make a dozen Yellow Rose boutonnieres for a fundraiser event our company was hosting. Expecting to pay at least $15-20 per piece, I was happily surprised when I called Hybrid Flowers and they quoted me a low $8 per boutonniere. I quickly headed to the store and spoke with David and his colleague who were extremely helpful in handling my order. I needed the order the following week, but instead of letting me leave empty handed, they gave me the MOST BEAUTIFUL ROSE, holy cow (I took pictures for my Instagram!) I followed up the next week and they confirmed they were on schedule with the boutonnieres. I arranged to pick them up the day of and found them all exactly as we needed, and looking quite beautiful AND they gave me another long stem rose to take home. All in all, an AMAZING experience with Hybrid Flowers!! They do a great job, are professional, friendly and very reasonably priced. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them! read more

Sent some flowers to my dear friends who live in the city for their birthday and was disappointed. The flower arrangement that I ordered I have ordered that specific kind multiple times so I know what it looks like in person. However this florist didn't make it similar. What they sent was pretty but it's not what i ordered. I didn't want solidago nor was that in the image online. you can clearly see that the image is a compact modern style arrangement with tea leaves covering the inside of the vase. I didn't get that either. Perhaps I just have high standards and picky but I was expecting something closely similar or at least an email or call indicating that they didn't have such and such flowers... This is the WORST online flower shop ever! they display false advertisement on their website. We wanted to buy a flower arrangement for a coworker who is currently fighting cancer. All of the girls at my company got together and bought the arrangement we all chose on the website. If you see the pics, you'll see the difference. We asked a refund but they couldn't offer one, we wanted to speak to the owner but a guy named David said the owner was away for the next two weeks. needless to say that we will try again to reach the owner in two weeks. David was stuttering and had a nervous voice. Hybrid is a neighborhood florist that's been on this Yorkville corner forever. There's nothing cute, trendy, or experimental going on here--just classic, attractive arrangements, bouquets, and plants at reasonable prices. Did I say "reasonable"? I meant "amazing." I often forego sending flowers because It seems like the simplest arrangement costs a bajillion dollars. Not here. After suggesting several pre-made arrangements (and offering to create something from scratch if I didn't like them) the patient man helping me offered a small but lush bowl of flowers in vibrant fall colors. $45. Delivery crosstown was $10. Done and done. I thought this was a bargain for such lovely, personalized service. Staff is patient and will answer your questions thoughtfully while also offering some good tips about plant care. Unfortunately, I live nowhere near the plant/flower district. This being the case, I am forced to explore some options a little closer. AKA - can I walk there? Hybrid might be a small walk (NW corner 1st & 86th) but it is well worth the effort. Possibly the friendliest customer service I have experienced since moving to NY !! (least friendliest - toss up btw Kmart on 34th or the grocery store on my street) Anyway, luckily, I am (apparently) the only person shopping for greenery in the middle of January. No one in the store & I received a full tour of nearly every plant. With nothing better to do with my afternoon, I welcomed this small greenhouse lesson . The associate (I can't remember his name to save my life!) recited scientific & common names, along with the prices, & how to take care of each plant I wanted to see (which was nearly everything) !! He also answered all of my questions - even the questions I had about my plant which has sadly been lured into Angi's-slow-&-painful-death-dungeon-for-plants. I don't know if he will make it, but it will be a good test my Dr. Greenthumb skills.... The prices are fair & they even went down on everything I decided to buy. Although the selection was not extreme, they have enough options to find something you will like. It is obvious these people really care about their business & their customers - as Betsy mentioned, they gave me a rose w/my purchase & made me laugh throughout the "tour". I will definitely come back & you should check it out if you're looking to make an attempt to create your own urban jungle.
