HH is a really supportive and challenging environment. From my "on ramp", to classes, to 1:1 training with DJ, each experience was amazing. They really work to make you feel comfortable which was key because I had never lifted weights before. I've been a member of hybrid house for over two years now. I started as a class pass member and really enjoyed the boxing class. The coaches and the members are so welcoming so I joined as a full time member back in 2023. I've gained a whole community of members and coaches who hold me accountable and encourage me to push myself to be the best version of myself everyday. I'm the most confident and fit that I've ever been in my life. Once I started trying other classes, I was introduced to the 12 week program that they conduct. In addition to the 12 week program that includes 3 main lifts, aerobic & anaerobic tests, Hybrid House also has other cross training workouts, our own run clubs, the occasional weekend hike and Hybrid House hosts a number of competitions at the gym. 3+ years and this week will attend my 450th class - in the time I've been attending, this place keeps getting better and better. Tweaks to programming has upped the quality of classes, especially the aerobic and anaerobic classes that gave me what I needed for my endurance training. One-on-one new member orientation sessions helps those newbies come to their first classes with confidence and their bearings. Added classes including 4p slots allow me to more easily work it into my schedule - no excuses! Finally, the coaches are amazing and they walk the walk. This is honestly the best gym I've experienced--and I've been working out steadily for a decade. Classes are planned so you can go 5 days a week and get a full-body workout with weights and conditioning. The owner, Timmie, listens to feedback and she and the coaches are always improving. I told Timmie last September that my goal was to get leaner and stronger... she's helped me achieve that! For a thick person who's almost 50? It feels like a miracle! I've been going to Hybrid House for about 2 years now and I still get excited to go to class. Timmie (the owner) really has something special going with her space. Queer friendly, fun and extremely knowledgeable coaches and a super authentic community keep me coming back. I've also participated in Timmie's Fit Over 40 program that focuses on fitness and nutrition for, you guessed it, women over 40. I've been a member of Hybrid House since the first day owner Timmie opened 6 years ago in Signal Hill. I've done barbell strength training to running track sprints in run club to hiking SoCal peaks, and doing my first HYROX competition. From outdoor group classes at "The Yard" location before the sun rises, to online classes through Covid shutdowns, I continued my fitness journey with Hybrid. It's been six years and I'm still here getting stronger and improving my cardiovascular health. Now you'll find me at "The Church" retro row location; it's a more intimate indoor gym vibe. Same excellent programming from qualified, compassionate coaches. They coach, they listen, they cheer, they encourage, and best of all they each lead by example. After 6yrs I can deadlift 1.5x body weight, back squat 1.25x body weight, bench press 70% body weight, hold plank for 2 mins, and even do burpees and full pushups. There are not enough words but I'm still going to drop some. I googled "gyms near me" last August and got so lucky to come across this gem. After a trial session I signed up with no hesitation. From day one the coaches and people were amazing, an environment I've never experienced in a gym before. As a member I show up week after week, but so do my coaches and that's where the magic happens. With their expertise comes reward for us -- the members. I signed up to find myself again after having two children. I wanted to be the "old me", the physically strong woman I knew was underneath my mama mask and boy did I find her! This place is really life changing! Here's a little story: I got there looked around and just saw a bunch of cool, friendly people that made me feel welcomed right away. Me, thinking this isn't going to be that bad! But oh boy how wrong I was. All those moms, dudes and dudettes turned out to be the toughest people I've ever met. Within the first 15 min I was huffing and puffing and I really saw my life passing in front of me for a second. But everyone around me was so supportive not just the coaches but also every member of the gym, even though they were running like the flash in front of me and lifting way heavier than I ever could. It was inspiring, encouraging and to be honest one of the best work out experiences of my life to that moment. Fast forward two years or so I'm so happy I found this place packed with awesome people and coaches. Now I get to be the one encouraging new members, trying make them feel welcomed just the way everyone else made me feel. Ok, so I'll start by saying I am not a CrossFit person and at first glance it's easy to think that's all this is. Couldn't be further from the truth! Hybrid House is all about individual performance, community, and taking your health and athleticism to the next level. And you feel that when you're in there. Coach Timmie is ALL about form - when you're doing the exercises she's pushing you to use the correct muscles and execute properly, so you know you're getting maximum benefit with minimum risk. So many places set you on a timer at stations and you're left on your own to hope you're doing it right. Not here. Plus the people, coaches and clients, are super cool (not sure what I took more of - laugh breaks or water breaks)! Ive taken classes with Timmie and Sara and they are both great! They are very encouraging and accommodating if you need any movement substitutions. (I have prior injuries) The workouts themselves are incredible! They call themselves "hybrid" because you truly get a little bit of everything. Coming from a Crossfit background doing the same couple barbell movements over and over, I love the variety in the classes they offer. Im NEVER bored at Hybrid House! I feel like Ive gained so much strength since Ive started at Hybrid House! The other members are also very nice and welcoming! Hybrid House is the absolute best. I had NEVER been to a gym before, and was suggested this one from a friend, and have been going for almost 6 months now...I feel like I found a home. Having never been to a gym before, and very intimidated by them and gym culture in general, walking into a smaller and more intimate space was SO helpful for me. The best part...the coaches REALLY give you their attention. I'm a curious person and want to know the why behind the what, and every single one of the them answers my questions thoughtfully and thoroughly. I've learned so much that I can now take with me to future workouts and beyond. I also really enjoy the size of the gym: it's basically got two rooms. For someone who often has option paralysis, and is still learning a lot, it's really helpful to see a few machines, barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, a few other things...it just helps me focus and feel like whatever workout is ahead is more attainable. It feels more intimate, and really lends to that community experience. Definitely my preference, and I'll now be spoiled forever for the size of a gym! Being a queer person working through body and gender issues, it's a really big deal to be able to go somewhere you're going to be working hard and facing your weaknesses and then know that you're safe. I am exploring name change right now, and told Timmie (the owner of the gym, a queer woman who I will rave about in just a moment) that I wanted to go by a different name than she had previously known me by (for over a month! I had sampled some classes at their other location). Next week I showed up, she and the other coaches were using my chosen name. No questions, no weird, no mistakes. That was a MASSIVE deal to me, as it was the first place I was really trying it out. That made me feel incredibly safe and respected, and I've felt so supported in my fitness but also gender journey here. The reason being...this place is all about community! It's really just about a group of people hanging out and lifting kettlebells and shit. It's fantastic, I go every week to improve my fitness and reach my body goals, but also because I care about seeing these people every week. That's a good feeling. Coach Timmie is a rockstar. A true champion of others, she pushes people INTO their potential. I've never felt pushed beyond my limit here in a way that felt violating or overwhelming...it has instead felt motivating, and rewarding when I see the payoff of the push! Timmie is down-to-earth, kind, and supportive. I'm so happy to be supporting a gym that supports the community so well! ALL the coaches are fantastic, but special other shout-out to Coach Tim & Coach Blake! I work with them the most throughout the week, and they've really helped me improve and grow stronger. They're both so skilled at making others feel comfortable and capable, and again...that's a huge deal in this kind of environment! I appreciate the time y'all have invested in me. I look forward to your classes each week. I don't even know how one goes about gym-shopping, but you really don't have to search once you've come across Hybrid House. I'd recommend it to anyone, and often do...mostly because I didn't think I could do the things I can do now, and that's a pretty big deal to witness in yourself.
