I suffered from severe hip pain and was being treated with Tramadol from another physician. I went to to Dr. B and she was able to address my pain with knowledge and expertise. Very deeply disturbed and appalled by the actions of this business. After calling SIX times regarding my missing orthotic inserts, having THREE separate patient advocates from my insurance company also call on my behalf, and finally submitting an appeal to my insurance to cancel my orthotic order, I was finally contacted by their staff. I received two calls from two separate staff members. Both assured me the issue would be resolved and I would receive the order. They did not resolve it. They did not even place the order! Instead, they changed the story once again and suggested that I was at fault. I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from receiving care here. Above everything, the dishonesty is appalling. read more

Dr. Balin is a gifted healer, professionally consistent, very relational and loving. Humble office, lovely assistant and fully automated. I also recommend Chavella, her massage therapist. She is very in tune, too. I went initially because I threw my back out during a bad fall, and ended up recovering from nearly 12 years of GIRD, fully. My digestion has never been so well. Highly recommend NOT being late, as it messes up their busy schedule. Most often can get seen same day when I call. On a few occasions I've been scheduled in during time when she is doing an initial exam for new patient. She takes her time during those and can seem like it takes forever......but that's because they try to get you in when you need seen. read more

The 1980's feel of the office and cheap jazz should have tipped me off, in addition to the receptionist trying to quietly talk on her earpiece to her girlfriend as if I couldn't tell she was on her cell phone. This wasn't the issue, but the fact that I waited for almost two hours in a gown in a room and was not seen. I had a class and my parking meter (2 hours in the sucker wasted) was up, so I put on my clothes and left. "This usually doesn't happen," the girl on the cell said. We can get you in tomorrow. Sweet, but my appointment WAS TODAY! I am livid, to say the least. On top of it all, they tried to take X-Rays when I had already had an MRI less than two weeks ago, a more advanced diagnostic test that said I had spinal stenosis and bulges in the L4/L5. I really want to know exactly why she wanted to bill my insurance for the X-rays that weren't needed when she could have used the MRI results instead. Perhaps she is trying to pay for the X-Ray machine? I'll be searching for yet another chiro in Hyde park. Maybe with a professional staff and physician this time? read more

I have been to several chiropractors due to recurring back pain. Dr. Balan has not only relieved my pain but she has done so in a very efficient manner. Most of the chiropractors that I have been to scheduled me three days a week for at least 6 months. Dr. Balan was able to address the problem and provide relief in a much shorter amount of time. She also gave me suggestions for morning stretches that have also helped alleviate my back pain. I have read other comments on this site about how her office is outdated. Personally, I would rather go to a chiropractor who works in a dated office, is knowledgeable and provides great service than to go to one who has an updated office but does not provide any physical relief. read more

I've never had a chiropractor before but this is a good place to start. They are pretty flexible with hours and when you need to reschedule. The place is pretty small but very intimate so its not like a huge clinic or anything. I've only done chiropractic therapy with them and I haven't done the massage therapy yet. read more

I have been to chiropractors all over the US and none of them compares to Dr. Balan. You will not find a more knowledgable or effective chiropractor. Which is not to say you can't find a fancier one. Dr. Balan's office is basic and not at all posh, so don't expect to be soothed by a babbling brook or the hum of a giant fish tank while you're being treated. It's also a super relaxed environment, by which I mean: they're not rushing around making sure everyone is treated promptly, and they might not coddle you (if you need to be sufficiently coddled when you go to the doctor). And yes, they play cool jazz. Get over it. However, a quick tip to the reviewers who were turned off by having to wait: Show up early! As in every doctor's office, not just this one, show up 5-10 minutes in advance LIKE THEY ASK YOU TO and you will be seen at your appointment time. If I come 5 minutes early, I always leave the place 25 minutes later. If you show up late, you botch the lineup and then they're fitting you in behind people who came on time. Try it. I promise it works. Bottom line: Dr. Balan is a great chiropractor. She will help you; she knows what she's doing. read more

I'm so thankful we have this wonderful resource in Hyde Park! Dr. Balan has always been very helpful. Most recently, after seeing two podiatrists for foot pain and not getting a clear diagnosis from either, but being told to wear a podiatry boot around for up to 6-8 weeks, I wound up with back pain due to walking unevenly thanks to the boot on one foot. I went to Dr. Balan, as she has helped my back pain many times in the past. I mentioned that I thought my back pain may have been due to wearing this special podiatry boot. She then spent a few minutes with my foot, letting me know the metatarsal was out of position. She fixed it in about 3 minutes when two separate podiatrists didn't even diagnosis correctly! So no more foot or back pain. Yay! Her staff is also very warm and nice. Easy to get an appt, too. read more

This place is a scam. They charge you hidden fees for Xrays then sends Xrays off for someone else to read because they're not capable of reading them. I wasted my time and energy going to this place never got pain medication or relief. I went to a real back doctor and instantly got results. My flexibility has improved and we have been able to stay on top of issues related to my low back. This is important as I age on top of having cerebral palsy and being in a wheelchair. I have been visiting Dr. Balan for many years due to lower back problems. She always advises me to schedule a follow-up appt and I rarely do because the pain is so minimized after the first treatment, that I forget about it. I'm always a little squeamish about having my back and neck manipulated and she is always patient and understanding. Once she's done, I wonder why I was ever nervous. Dr Balan has been the chiropractor for our entire family of 5 since almost the beginning of her opening her practice, nearly 20 years! I like the intimate setting and that we are not treated as a number. Her office staff does their best to be accommodating when we need an urgent appointment, especially when our daughter was suffering with severe sciatica or I had back issues. Dr Balan is calm, dependable and down to earth. I just wish our insurance hadn't changed the amount of visits we can have because we miss our regular visits to maintain our family's health. We love my husband's Heath insurance but after the recent changes it's starting to feel like an HMO somewhat, which is no reflection on Dr Balan or her business. I have had a wonderful experience at Hyde Park Chiropractic. Dr. Balan asks the right questions, and really listens to her patients. She is a skilled clinician with an excellent bedside manner. Her staff are courteous and professional. I went to her for evaluation and treatment of chronic neck and lower back pain. After a few weeks of treatment I'm feeling much better. Dr. Balan is a true gift to her clients. I was referred to her by a friend fifteen years ago and so the relationship began. I have so much respect for Dr. Balan, for her excellence in the field. I've watched the business grow in the past years without incident. Over the years Dr. Balan has had her share of receptionist. Some have moved on due to other opportunities and some have been ask to move on. Never to affect her professionalism. With that being said the two young ladies that now hold the seat of receptionist/ book keeper as of now are very loud. They seem to be negatively playing way to much for a business atmosphere. You can't get an adjustment without hearing the loudness of there laughter, talking too much & playing with the patients. This is a wellness center. I would never take the time out to write a review about such a great doctor, that I no longer enjoy visiting because her help is awful. read more
