When people think of chiropractors, many stereotypes come to mind. "Those people are hacks; they're not real doctors." "All they do is twist you up and fix you a little bit so that you have to keep coming back." "They're creepy." Dr. Mary English has destroyed these stereotypes and is well on the way to rescuing the good name of chiropractors everywhere. You wanna talk about doctor-type smarts? Mary was the valedictorian of her class in chiropractor school! You think chiropractors only live for repeat business? Mary's goal is to fix your back. To that end, she gave me back exercises to do, so that I wouldn't ever have to come back to her! You think chiropractors are creepy? Mary used to be the lead singer of a punk band in Boston. It doesn't get much more un-creepy than that! Besides being a very sensitive doctor, Mary is also just a really cool person. She's down-to-earth and actually cares about her patients. So, if you're looking for a new chiropractor, go visit Dr. Mary. She's awesome! read more

Three and a half to four stars. Mary & Ellen are both very nice and personable. I did visit and my back started feeling better after the second visit, though it's gone back to a bit more achey again. But, I haven't been doing the exercises she recommended nearly as often as I should be. I am not exactly sure what their hours are since they don't have a website, but they alluded to being there later in the evening and therefor coming later in the morning. However, when I inquired about a later appointment (so that I didn't have to leave work early), it seemed that they never had anything available much after 3 or 3:30. I understood as a new patient with a longer first appointment needing to come in earlier, but her other patients must book up the late afternoon/early evening appointments far in advance. Also, they don't appear to be open on Saturdays, which makes it a little more problematic for me. Unfortunately, I can't leave work early once per week to attend appointments. It is a good idea to check with your insurance policy; I was a bit surprised to find to receive a bill a few weeks after my first appointment for services. In addition to scheduling I won't be able to visit often if insurance isn't going to cover it, but it was helpful when I was able to go. read more

Dr. English (Mary) and Ellen (massage therapist) are amazing! I have been treated by them for several years for both chronic and occasional issues. They find underlying causes, and provide at home exercises and stretches. Having wisdom regarding what you cannot, or should not do is not always a given with healthcare professionals. However, Mary and Ellen know when to refer to other types of therapists, or doctors as necessary. They communicate extensively with the patient, and with each other to offer the best treatment possible. They are knowledgeable and dedicated. On a personal level, they are both the kind of people you want to be besties with. Hardworking, funny, caring, tolerant, kind, and interesting. They run the business professionally and honestly and do amazing work. What an incredible team! I cannot recommend them highly enough. There really should be more stars. read more

Andersonville Chiropractic is an excellent chiropractic provider. I visited Dr Mary English after having seen 2 other chiropractors in the uptown / andersonville area, and from the first phone call, I knew that this place was different. After a 1.5 - 2 hour evaluation, Mary created a detailed treatment plan inclusive of adjustments, massage therapy and most importantly, exercises and stretches geared toward a long term solution to my neck pain. In short, Mary and Ellen's primary goal is to help their patients, and that mindset dictates their entire treatment plan. I highly recommend this facility and am very happy to have found it. I've had some terrible experiences with chiropractors in Chicago. I started chiropractic when I was 10 or 11 and when I moved here, I went through a few. As other reviews say, stereotypes exist for a reason. I can give you several names of chiropractors who caused more problems than they solved; that pressured me into coming once a week for 4 months; that tried to bill me for weekly visits for ONE YEAR ahead of time so I'd "meet my deductible early." How nice of them. I'm so pleased I found this practice. Dr. English (Mary) is a model chiropractor. No, she's a model physician. She's incredibly smart, very thorough, and a fantastic listener. She gives practical, every-day solutions to improve your quality of life; her adjustments work and are always on target. She doesn't demand anything of you except that you're open to the opportunity to feel better. There's no pressure to force you come every week (as most chiropractors generally do) if you don't need to come; your well-being dictates how much you are under treatment. I actually look forward to my visits because I know I'll feel better afterward and I know I can trust Mary's judgment. The truly great thing about Mary is she is as good of a person as she is a chiropractor. If you're not feeling well in any way- if you have headaches or backaches, poor flexibility, migraines, whatever it may be- you're doing yourself a disservice by not taking part in the comprehensive, respectful, knowledgeable care of Dr. Mary English. read more

Not only did she deliver the goods, but gave me a battery of easy exercises that have gone a long way to keeping the pain away. I have never gone to a chiropractor in my life. Dr. English was my first! I had a horrible knot under my shoulder blade. I went to masseurs but no luck. She was wonderful and extremely sweet. I've been seeing Mary (chiropractor) and Ellen (massage therapist) for about 6 years. The first time I went, Mary said to me, "My goal is to never see you here again." Before I even start with my review, I need to point out one thing. Customer service starts with the very first phone call, and ends the moment you walk out of their doors. I just moved to Andersonville and I needed a new chiropractor. I made an appointment with Andersonville chiropractic two weeks back. The woman on the phone was attentive and had a decent attitude. I managed to make an appointment for December 3rd. I was really excited to have a local chiropractor that I could constantly count on as I have tendinitis issues. The night before my appointment I looked everywhere and couldn't find my insurance cards. I looked all over my apartment and they were nowhere to be found. I looked till about 3am and gave up and figured I'd cancel the next day. I had meant to call when I woke up but I had tons of homework and other things to do that it slipped my mind, and the same woman I spoke to the first time called me. She wanted to confirm that I'd be coming in, and I respectfully told her what had happened. With an attitude, she said, "Okay, that's really rude." and as I apologized for the second time, she hung up on me. I guess she figured I was a one time customer, when in actuality I would've been weekly. Regardless, that is no way to talk to a person that wants to cancel an appointment. I understand that I could've called earlier, but I'm not the one trying to run a business, I'm the one trying to contribute to a business. And if I had the decency to speak to her respectfully and apologize for what I had done, she should have had the decency to talk to me as if I was- well... a customer. I would've made up for the one appointment I lost with many others. I need a weekly chiropractor to feel better, Andersonville Chiropractic needs customers to thrive. Plain and simple. There was no need to disrespect me. A simple "Alright I'll cancel that for you, have a nice day," would have sufficed. Today I finally found my insurance cards and you can believe I'm taking my business elsewhere. I don't want someone like that getting anything from me. As I said, it starts with the phone call. Maybe next time she'll treat people with respect. In that moment she lost what would've been a loyal customer. And that's exactly what I left on her answering machine tonight. read more

I don't know why I haven't come on here sooner to write a review. I couldn't be more happy that I was introduced to Mary and Ellen about 4 years ago. I usually visit once or twice a year only, because Mary is very good at letting you know what is causing the problem, and giving you exercises to prevent it from reoccurring. Ellen helped me with therapeutic massage during my marathon training, and also helping to loosen me up when I was rehabbing a hip issue. It was in recovering from this hip issue that Mary suggested i come in a few times in a row to make sure I was actually recovering. I had gone to physical therapy 3 times a week for 6 weeks with little improvement, but after 3 visits with Mary and Ellen, I was able to get my hips back to where they needed to be, and gained the knowledge to keep myself stretched, so that the issues don't recur. I'd grow 2 more arms to give this place 4 thumbs up, if I could! read more
