I pulled in parking lot to inquire about safety check required to renew car license. The manager, who had a facial expression like he had a terd stuck sideways, walked up to my car. I had been on hold with the licensing department for 1.5 hours and of course they finally came on at the moment I pulled in the lot. This was first time renewing license in MO and it is complicated! Anyways he treated me like I was a leper. After going inside and determining that I would have to go elsewhere because their availability wasn't till Thursday next week I got in my vehicle and was trying to find an address for another place safely out of traffic. He walked up to car, still with painful expression to tell me that they will need me to move to back cars out. They weren't backing any cars out right then. They got my odometer inspection done for about $12 I'm literally 5 minutes, no appointment needed. In fact, I called them thinking I needed a full Missouri vehicle inspection and they let me know I wouldn't need to do all that, probably saving me quite a bit of money in the process! read more

I had been going to Hyde park auto for 2 years. It's a little more expensive but I wanted to support a smaller shop. I have an old beater, but it's never had any problems. I'd get my oil changed there every few months, and they'd regularly tell me they checked my fluids. A few weeks ago a light came on so I made an appointment. Before I got it in my engine started bucking like a bull, and I checked to see both the radiator and it's reservoir were nearly empty. I filled it and that seemed to fix it. When I went in I told them what happened and asked if they checked fluids, as I had been coming to this shop exclusively for more than two years. A guy at the counter shrugged and said "sometimes". Apparently not more than once every 2 years for coolant. After that oil change I found that my driver side control panel for my side mirrors, which has been broken and was hanging loose on the door, was gone. They didn't say anything, and I can no longer alter my side mirrors. They're fine for oil changes, but don't expect them to do anything else for you. I'll be finding a new shop. read more

I've been bringing the same car here for nearly 7 years now and would recommend the place to everyone. The prices are reasonable, the quality of the work has always been good, and most of all I trust them to keep my car in top notch shape without getting me to spend more money than necessary. When my sister had to get a new car after the timing belt on hers broke, Tom the owner offered her a used Chevy for only $750. This was almost two years ago and it has run without any problems. I have given Hyde park 3 chances and they have struck out each time!!! (I was Refered by my AAA membership) I am done with Hyde Park Auto!!! It was in the afternoon when I got a call that my car was ready. The owner did the work without calling me prior to completion, at the time I thought I would let it slide. I called him to inform him I couldn't get a ride this late in the afternoon but, I did hAve a ride first thing the next morning. The owner started yelling at me and said he had no where to put it overnight And hung up on me!!! This is 3 rd time he has yelled at me as a customer After spending around $1500 plus at the shop. The owner should never be dealing with customers as he is unprofessional and down right mean!!! 3 strikes you are out Hyde Park Auto and I report the horrible experience to AAA too. I was a bit weirded out about Hyde Park Auto because somewhere in my head I felt like I had heard iffy things about them - not sure if through reviews or word-of-mouth. I don't trust many with my car, but I was sick and tired of driving around with a ghetto bungee cord tying down my trunk and I didn't want to pay the dealership $300 so they could replace the lock assembly... it seemed kind of fishy that although the lock worked just fine, the dealership thought it should be replaced. The reason my trunk wasn't locking was because it was misaligned with the bumper after someone kissed my rear end with their giant SUV. So.. on a whim I dropped by Hyde Park on a Tuesday morning. The lot was packed but the gentleman in the lobby was friendly and said they could take a look at my car. He took my keys, I walked home, and a couple hours later I got a call saying my car was fixed and ready for pickup. Wait, huh? No call with an estimate? No information about what needed to be done? The car was just... poof... ready.. just like that? Hmmm. My mind was racing and I was worried about the cost. "Um, how much exactly was that?" I asked... "$47.50" was the reply. SWEET! I hadn't even explained to them that I thought it wasn't a lock issue as much as a misalignment issue but they figured it out and fixed it. They were affordable, friendly, and fast... but next time I'd like a call before the work gets done so I know what I'm getting myself into. Otherwise, they did a fine job. read more

Okay so this place is right around the corner and it's not some Jiffy Lube-type chain. Seems like I should have every reason to support them. Except... I don't think they do a good job. Twice I've brought a car in for an oil change, twice it's been done quickly and with a smile. Unfortunately the receipt notes I'm paying for: "Change engine oil and filter, grease chassis, top off fluids, adjust tire pressures, reset service indicators, safety check major systems." Aside from the first (which I hope is getting done) I don't think the rest are touched. I've had the same 'Check Engine' light on both times and they never mentioned it. Unlike the chain garages that give you a hand out saying what your tire pressures were, condition of wiper blades, etc., you get no information here. Do they not want to sell me services? So despite the convenience and other advantages, I think I'll head to Firestone for my next oil change where they at least do the inspection bits. When it comes time for a inspection sticker (for auto or motorcycle), well, I'll keep going to Hyde Park. read more

I went to Hyde Park Auto Service for the first time today to drop off my car and was expectantly surprised with their honesty regarding what needed to be fixed. My 2004 Mazda has been running rough for a few months so I told them to look over everything and see what problems they could find to fix because I want to keep the car for as long as I can. Elliot called me a couple hours later and told me that I only needed to replace one engine mount and maybe change the spark plugs. I was shocked this was all he wanted me to have done. I had basically given them a blank check to find "problems" to fix and they came back with what I surmise was their honest professional opinion on what my car actually needed, not what they thought they could charge me for. He didn't tell me I needed to replace ALL the engine mounts or change belts or replace the air filter, which is clean since I did it myself recently. Jiffy Lube on Linwood, I'm looking at you. (Don't tell me b/c gas prices are high I should change an obviously clean filter. Why did you pull it out to show me a clean filter?) Anyway, I was not expecting this much professionalism and honesty. When you have to submit yourself to the expertise of others, I think it is common to feel vulnerable and maybe cynically I expected to be taken advantage of this morning. No longer recommend Hyde Park Auto. I have referred family & friends to them. They've done a few oil changes for me & some work on my steering column. But 7/30/21 I went in for an oil change, everything was the same as usual. 8/27 as I'm driving down the highway my car oil pressure light starts to flicker then after doing that 5-6 times the light stayed on then immediately after my check engine light came on & so did the battery light. My car stalled/died out as I was on the exit ramp. When the tow truck hooked my car up you could see oil leaking then I look under the car & see the drain cover is completely missing. I understand mistakes happen & people sometimes miss things so I went in with that understanding mindset. But when I took the car back, the owner, TOM says "this is not how I planned on starting my Monday morning, we'll get to this car when we can". Seriously?? Until today I had never received anything other than exceptional customer service. You would think an owners initial reaction to completely screwing up your car from a ROUTINE OIL CHANGE wouldn't have been that. In the end, he offered to reimburse me for rental/Uber/Lyft while they replaced the "motor" & this took all of a week. Fast forward a week later after getting my car back, the check engine light is on again & my car is riding the same way it did when it broke down the first time the "fixed" it. Even when taking it back today still received that same horrible customer service from TOM. Save yourself, your car & your time.. just go somewhere else! read more

This experience was AMAZING! I have a Volvo and it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find a reliable service station that can work on a Volvo. I DESPISE going to the dealership so I've been putting off an oil change and a/c work. In addition, my "maintenance needed" lights were on and not going anywhere ;) I called Hyde Park Service as a referral from my friend Frank who goes to church with the owner. I got in two days later and within 3 hrs my a/c was fully working, the oil was changed AND they were able to shut the "maintenance needed" light off! I'm not sure what happened with the negative reviews below--I guess everyone (customer and provider) can have bad days but I saw NONE of that! From Elliot that answered the phone and scheduled me to whomever repaired my Volvo I give more than 5 stars! And my bill: $89.00 At a dealership the quote was $350 (NO LIE). I was in Kansas City for a week for a workshop I attended. I decided to road trip from Cleveland to make it an adventure. Well, I hit a curb and got a flat, and this garage was able to get me in right away. They are friendly, fair, and speedy. As I was waiting for someone to pick me up when I dropped off my car, I noticed that a lot of people came in and were addressed by name. I took a potential Jeep Cherokee I was looking to purchase to Hyde Park Auto for them to assess. Sadly, they said the bearings were shot and the amount to fix that would have doubled the purchase price of the car. The owner Tom said, "Well, this one is a pass, but there's a customer looking to get rid of his Cherokee. The very next morning it was there for me to test drive. Tom had indicated that the owner bought it new and has used his garage for the life of the car. He said it was solid. And it was! A year later, I've had no problems really with this Cherokee that has 160k miles. Not only did they hook me up with a great car, since then they have been very honest about what the car needs or doesn't need. They never do anything that isn't totally necessary. I wish I could choose 0 stars! My daughter brought her car in to be inspected and it failed. They told her that her power steering was shot and it would cost around $1,100 to repair. Since she didn't want to put that much money into an older car, she asked if there was any cheaper alternative options to do just enough to get it to pass. They told her no. When she called me, I asked her if she has been having any problem with her steering, like being hard to turn. She has had no problems at all! So, my wife called our local mechanic that we trust and that knows my daughter's car also, and he said that Hyde Park was probably just being overly picky hoping to get a high-dollar repair out of the deal. He offered to look at her car the next time she's in town. In the mean time, I told her to take it to another inspection place to see what they said - she did, and it passed! I am so sick of repair shops that try to take advantage of women! Too bad for them that my daughter is smart enough to get other opinions. She did say that they were nice, but that in no way makes up for their lie! read more

Previously, I lived in Olathe, nowhere near Hyde Park Auto, and when taking my Mazda to the dealership, it was always a huge expense and I always felt like I was getting ripped off. Since moving near the Plaza, now I go to Hyde Park Auto and they are the best. I was on a roadtrip between Illinois and Utah and my car broke down Thursday afternoon outside Kansas City. I rolled my car into Hyde Park who took a lot of time to look into the needed repairs. I didn't have the time to wait until the next week for repairs - the only time they had available to do it - and one of their fabulous employees spent the next hour calling several other mechanics in the area to see who could finish my car that day. They quoted me for all the repairs needed and worked with the different mechanics over the phone to find the least expensive shop, even cheaper than their own. I have never experienced better customer service, especially from guys who had nothing to gain from helping me. It was a saving grace. read more

I have used Hyde Park since we moved to the area in 2005. I won't go anywhere else. They are truly an "old fashioned" car service..nothing fancy, no free drinks/snacks, but that is why the prices are good and super friendly service, as well as quick. I love that i can call, get the car in the next day, and it is usually fixed that day. I had an estimate done at Mini Cooper in OP, they quoted me almost $1500 for the work and new tires. THey also suggested some things "must be fixed". I got the same work done, no extras that didn't need fixing..and 2 new tires for $1300...really??? love em and trust them completely read more

I just returned from having my car serviced at Hyde Park Auto Service. I could not be more pleased, and will definitely be a return customer. The mechanic could tell what was wrong with the car by the sound it made when I drove in -- something the dealership was unable to do. They could easily have sold me a new belt for $100, but after looking at the belts said they just needed tightening. I am sure they were aware that I knew nothing about cars and that they could have told me anything and charged me any amount. But they were honest. I am so impressed! read more
