I'm supposed to pick it up in a couple days, so I will update my review then! This is my second time getting polarized lenses for these particular sunglasses. LET ME TELL YOU THE SECRET OF WHY THIS PLACE RULES: A huge conglomerate call Luxottica owns most chains in this country that buy and sell glasses: Lenscrafters, Sears Optical, Sunglass Hut, Target Optical, etc, are all owned by Luxottica, a huge European Corporation that dominate the eyeglass field. The only chain they don't own is Costco, which doesn't have much of selection. In addition to owning and running these retail places, Luxottica also owns a very large number of high end brands like Ray Ban, Calvin Klein, etc and many many more. So if you are a store and want to sell their brands you have to charge what they tell you to. So they have monopoly like power in the marketplace. And in addition, when you go to a optometrist, they charge a huge mark up for glasses after they give you an eye exam because of their overhead and the optometrist wants a large profit. Remember, after the exam, they have to give you your prescription even if you don't buy from them. Hye is independently owned and they charge a reasonable price for frames and lenses and carry a huge selection of great frames. I've walked out of there with single vision lenses on beautiful but non designer frames for under $100. Because they are not part of any big monopoly and don't have the overhead of a doctor, they charge a reasonable cost. You will easily save $100-$300 depending on if you get designer frames or really nice but no name frames. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself. What have you got to lose. And of course you can get any kind of sunglasses. They are full service so you can get any type of lenses you need. Last I checked they has an optometrist working out of their storefront, but regulations by the optometrist's lobby make it harder than it should be. Oh, and they have excellent service with great people who don't pressure you in any way. They just want you to look good and be happy. This is the best hidden deal in LA due to Luxottica's monopoly power that forces all the other businesses to charge you more than they should. You will save money and get great frames here. It has been over a year since I bought two different pair of eyeglasses from Hye Optic. Both pair are now useless since hinges broke, screws came out, both glasses are pretty much unusable. Shortly after purchasing these glasses, I splurged on a pair of glasses from an upscale optician. The old cliche "you get what you mpay for." In this case it was absolutely true. Both pairs were unusable after less than a year. Although I paid 3 times the amount at the second optometrist but they are perfect and have outlived (by a lot) the glasses from Hye. read more

Was in LA for two days during a Cal-LA road trip and found this place on Yelp. I'm 6'5" and have a big head so I need oversize frames. These don't make me look like a hipster, but fit me like normal frames. Anyways, I was at a couple of different stores when I stopped by here. Not a big selections of mens frams, but I found a pair vintage wire frames that were really nice. The next surprise was the price. While the other "cool" and "hip" stores ranged between $80-400 just for frames, I got both frames and lenses for only $60. WOW! And it was ready next day (as I was heading south I needed them fast). Last but not least, the people who work there are really friendly and if I was living in the LA area this would be my one-stop for frames. read more

This is a really great place, so helpful staff and ridiculously inexpensive. You can bring in your own frames and ask them to add any type of lenses you want. I opted to turn my glasses into sunglasses with tinted lenses, but they do whatever you want.... Super-duper, customer-oriented business, probably best in L.A.! I had a great experience with Hye Optic! The workers are very engaging and polite. They made the experience quite easy and enjoyable. They allowed me to try on countless pairs and gave me their honest opinion. I seriously appreciated it so much, I over think things and having their input made it much easier for me. The whole process is rather quick, after choosing the pair (regular glasses and sunglasses) they got my prescription, asked me what lens size then I was on my way. II so love this place. They are super friendly and couldn't be more helpful. I got a yelp coupon here and saved some money, ended up using it at the other Hye location and they were just as friendly over there. I travel a lot so I was unable to come pick the glasses up, and specifically asked to have them shipped, which they happily do. I would have given then 5 stars if they hadn't forgotten twice to mail out my glasses and I had to call twice to have them tracked down. Stumbled on this place today in desperation because I had to have prescription glasses as soon as possible for work tomorrow. I'm blind as a bat and had suddenly developed an intolerance to my contacts and had lost my glasses. I was treated like family by all of the employees AND all of the other customers. This place deserves all the stars it has! I brought in a pair of my dad's old Ray Ban aviators with a gold frame. He had a set of dirty bifocals in them and I hade Hye optic put in prescription lenses with a brown gradient fade. When I picked them up I was amazed at how hip and fancy they looked! I would give it 2 stars but the cheap price bumped it to 3 stars. They are extremely unorganized. They messed up my order 2 times and I had to wait for my glasses 3+ weeks instead of the 1 week they told me. I go in on a Saturday and find out the new frames and lenses I bought from them aren't ready because they ACCIDENTALLY ordered the wrong lens prescription. So the new ones should be in on Tuesday and they will mail it to me. HA! Jokes on me because it is Friday and I didn't hear back from them and I call and she said we will mail it today or tomorrow. I said can I pick it up tomorrow? Her answer? Let me see when it will be in.. Um you just said you will send today or tomorrow. This is ridiculous. I just want my glasses. Highly doubt I'll be back. SERVICE WAS UNEXPECTEDLY GOOD !! My boyfriend and I went there just now to get a replacement of his lost glasses. I found Hye Opt on Yelp and thought it was pretty good until we got there it was AMAZING ! They have variety of frames and brand names starts at very low price and even the brand ones are cheaper than any other retails. My boyfriend picked out a Dolce & Gabbana frame $220, for a frame like that it would be more anywhere else. And he even got the lense for free !! We've got discount on top of a deal. **The AMAZING part is when we got there it was around 4:30, after picking out the frame, the guy told us to wait he'll make the lense right away and BAMMM 5 mins later we walk out with my boyfriend's brand new D&G glasses.Total shopping time: 30 Mins !!
