The customer service at Hye Optic is wonderful! However, I haven't been too pleased with my products lately. I'm still waiting for a pair of glasses to be finished. I recently bought another pair of designer frames and I kid you not, the name of the brand smudged off the side of the temple in less than 7 hours! It's like, what am I paying for here? :-/ If that's the case, I could've saved some money on non-designer frames. Just make sure you know what you're buying before you purchase. Usually if somewhere sounds too good to be true- it's too good to be true- but guided by the reviews on Yelp I tried Hye Optic for the first time about a year ago, and four pairs of glasses later, I can't say enough good about them. Cheaper than Costco, with as good a selection of frames as any designer store I've checked out, this place rocks. My glasses have always been turned around in a week or less- and when I just needed new frames for lenses I had, they popped them in while I waited (at Kaiser, it takes two weeks). The kids who work there are nice, and incredibly customer service oriented. I unequivocally recommend this place. read more

My friend brought her glasses here to get lenses installed because it was cheaper than her optometrist. Sure the place isn't in the greatest part of town and the place itself looks a lil shoddy, but there's ample parking, yummy crawfish downstairs and the people are really kind. Hye Optic exceeded my expectations on many levels. Not only were my lenses just $50, as opposed to the $200 they cost at Lens Crafters, they turned my glasses around in about 40 minutes since the lenses were in stock. I was in a real emergency too, having lost my glasses, and I needed them desperately for work. They also carry the Mó brand, a killer brand from Spain that I cannot find ANYWHERE in the states, and I got a very unusual and stunning pair for a super reasonable price. The glasses look like they cost upwards of $300. Staff is supremely friendly and has incredible customer service. They even threw in a free eye glass spray. I will never go anywhere else. read more

Spoiler alert: Hye Optical exudes outstanding service, product, price and attention. Do yourself a favor and go to this relatively nondescript exterior physical venue for excellent optometrist Rx realization by optician of eyeglasses per your desires and demands. Good selection of frames too. I usually go to ophthalmologist every ~two years for exam to eliminate any medical ongoing issues, as most should, regardless of age. You don't want to lose that most important of senses. I have long gone to Dr. First, M.D. at Glendale Eye, and continue to be satisfied. He has experience and excellent credentials as an M.D. who will examine for any medical issues. Many ophthalmologist offices also employ optometrists who do the actual eye corrective, if needed, adjunct Rx script for any eyeglasses needed. Then you go to an optician vendor (one who interprets and actually makes the eyeglasses according to optometrist Rx). Upon recent eye doc visit, I took Rx to Costco for filling progressive lens Rx with two pairs of eyeglasses: clear (with Transitions dimming), and a pair of sunglasses. Both seem fine (with frame adjustments). But, I also wanted a pair of progressive eyeglasses with "graduated tint," which Costco does not offer. I started online search that led me to Hye Optical via Yelp. I met Emanual there, plus two other very helpful, courteous and knowledgeable ladies. Emanual is just an expert at his vocation in interpreting best frames for facial presentation and voiced desires, and in my case best degree of graduated tint for lenses. I ended up buying two pairs of eyeglasses, my choice -- not sales pressure what-so-ever. And, the combined price was equivalent to what I paid previously at Costco for other two pairs (identical progressive lenses and coatings, etc., but with graduated tint). I think this is a family business. Regardless, this venue is now my first optician "go to" Rx fulfillment vendor. I have never before now Yelped a review. But, I am moved by such a personally great experience to spend time to write such. I don't publicly recommend many, but, I do so for Hye Optical on Hollywood Blvd . --Wayne M. read more

I was referred to them three years ago, by a person who has been their customer for many years through word-of-mouth. (If I recall, they said they have been in business for 26 years.) It was worth the drive to this place. I had a rush order and they referred me to their Pasadena lab where I got the glasses within 20 minutes. (Pasadena lab had a retail area, which closed a couple of years ago; I am pretty sure you can still drive to the lab and pick it up for same-day service.) Regular orders are available for pickup next day, while more complex prescriptions take 3-5 days. I didn't find the widest selection of glasses like one will find online, but you can order the frames from another place and the lens at this store. My optometrist said they did a good job with the lenses, which can be an issue with some of the online stores. They will also fix your glasses for free (if purchased at store) or for a minimal fee. Prices for all services are very reasonable. The frames, although cheaper than other retail stores, is something that is marked up, and I suggest that if money is tight, regardless of where you purchase the frames, you ask for a discount. From my standpoint, you can always go online and get super cheap frames, so why not give such a quality lens place a chance to compete? read more

Definitely use the $30 for $50 Yelp certificate deal. It's really worth it. I got frames for 60 bucks plus 20 bucks for the lenses which came out to $80. After adding the Yelp coupon it came out to be $30!!! Yes they are simple reading glasses but that is a much better deal than LensCrafters. I spent almost $300 for my glasses! I went here because I was overdue for new glasses, it's really close to my house, and I saw the five star rating on yelp. I had planned on just trying some frames on, and then getting glasses online from Warby Parker. But they were so nice that I decided it would be better to support my family-owned, local shop instead. I went in today looking for a pair of prescription sunglasses. I left very pleased with my experience and I'm really excited to pick them up. One employee took a look at my prescription (which is a little heavy) and told me what frames would work best with it. He pulled out all of the ones I was interested in and also pulled out a few I wouldn't have thought to try on. I really appreciated his knowledge and opinion. I'm typically a really indecisive person but I quickly went with one of the new Ray-Ban styles he had chosen for me and I can't wait to pick them up. As he was completing my paperwork I got a little nervous at how fast I had chosen the frames so another employee took a look. She looked at the two I was considering and confirmed my original choice. I feel like both employees gave honest opinions which is important to someone with bad eyesight, looking for glasses by themselves, for a face shape that gives limited options. The purchase was an investment, but a very reasonable one for polarized, prescription, Ray-Ban sunglasses. I don't think you're going to find a better deal without sacrificing quality. HYE OPTIC. Possibly the best. Points for friendly people, and MEGA points for affordability. Needed to put in real lenses for some frames I bought in Korea. (fashion glasses some people call them) Today they were supposed to close at 6PM but I walked in around at 5:52 and with NO RUSH just as if it was any earlier time they tended to me in a very friendly and polite manner. Lenses would've been around $50+ for my single vision prescription poly lenses with anti glare, anti scratch etc. but I scored the recent yelp deal $30 for $50, and payed only a whopping $30!! for basically a new pair of glasses! (The frames were only $7 at a store I bought a long time ago. Check eBay for cute frames if you're looking for some!) I had called 10 other optics with decent to excellent reviews on yelp and they were all $80-$150+ to have lenses put in frames... Anyways, won't be going anywhere else. ^_^ Super happy. read more

Straight forward glasses for good price. I take my frames here and just have the lenses replaced every time my prescription changes. $50 done! If you just need lenses and don't need all the fluff of anti-reflection, anti-scratch, blah blah blah non-sense, then come here. I was surprised a few years ago when I first discovered this little gem of a store. And since then I've bought probably 8 or 9 pairs of glasses from them, and it's always a pleasure. This time, though, has a story worth telling. I'm leaving tonight on a red-eye for three weeks away. I broke my glasses and needed to be able to see well for this trip. Last week I went in and got the frames - but they needed to order the lenses. The lenses were due today on UPS. All should have been perfect. The UPS shipment got held up, and Shake waited past closing for it. I was there waiting with her. She told me: "I'm not letting you go on your trip without being able to see" and she used lenses which were a different grade than the ones they ordered, and made the glasses for me to use on my trip. And I have a couple of prescriptions with them - and I got mixed up and the lenses were for reading rather than distance glasses. She cut the lenses again, no complaints, no fooling around. They'll put in the lenses I ordered when I get back. By the time I left, it was an hour after their closing time. And she kept her promise. Shake was apologetic to me all over the place - for UPS screwing up. She went waaaaaay over and above any customary call of duty. Price, service, quality - what else can you ask for? read more
