Used to be 5 Stars -- Sadly I have to change this to 1 star: Read on: I bought 2 pair of glasses (lens and frames). Both came back with mis-made lenses. The progressive reading part of the lenses was not made high enough, so in order to get the proper reading focus I have to literally lift the glasses up, off the bridge of my nose in order to peer through the very bottom sliver of the lens area---in other words: defective. I brought them back. The first time Hye optics admitted it was, indeed, the lenses maker's fault and even further substantiated that fact when they mentioned that several other glasses were mis-made in that same batch, with exactly the same problem. They kindly had them remade --but yet, even again, they came back only slightly better. So after a couple days trying to make it work... I brought them back again. The second time Hye Optic accepted them leaving me to believe they were going to be remade.... I thought "wow, great these are stand up people." However after waiting weeks I hear nothing from them I dropped back in to check on them I find to my surprise they were never even sent back for a remake(!!!).... basically they never had any intention of sending them back. So.... that begs the question... Why did they not tell me at the time I dropped them off they were not going to remake them? It would have saved weeks waiting and another trip! However to make matters worse when I was there to pick them up they then pushed back stating "it's the prescription and the doctor's fault". I kind of felt then that wasn't the case so I inquired of 3 different optometrists, including being re-tested! Test came back the same and ALL 3 optometrists were unanimous in saying "it's clearly the lensmaker's fault." Rather than haggle a 3rd time I opted to have the lenses made correctly thru Lens Crafters ---an additional $300 that this fiasco cost me! READ THAT AGAIN!: $300. BLOODY DOLLARS OUT OF MY POCKET! I fully understand the logic why Hye did not want to remake them. Why absorb the cost a third time when you can try and pass the blame onto someone else? But so for the several trips, the time, the frustration and bad feelings for being fed a line... I just can't bring myself do business with Hye again. The way this as handled was extremely underhanded and very unprofessional. That's too bad. Partly because they have a decent selection and fairly competitive prices but also because.... well... I thought the people that work there were nice and that they were 'stand up' people. They sure do come across friendly and engaging enough when selling the frames. Extremely near-sighted on their part tho because on average I buy at least 3 pair of glasses a year. Anyways... Perhaps things can be handled differently with the next customer however not being the only reviewer with 1 star complaining here about how they do business... REAL change may take awhile and a few more scathing reviews. Buyer beware. read more

Oh my god this place with lightening fast! This seems like a family ran practice, they do such a wonderful job at QUICKLY getting your glasses repaired for you. Yesterday I took some frames I had with no lenses and I basically gave them my prescription and they were like "ok just wait 15 minutes and your glasses will be done" and that to me was shocking because everywhere else I have gone to in the past they usually take a full week to return my glasses. They gentlemen helping outside is super friendly and makes sure you're out of there in no time. Highly recommend this optic shop! I will definitely be back :) read more

A few weeks ago, my frames broke and after struggling with Zenni Optical, I took to Yelp to see if there was an alternative to my dilemma. I decided to give Hye Optic a try, based on the awesome reviews. Natalie greeted me immediately and when she realized my lenses were still usable, she offered to find me frames that would fit my already existing lenses. We found great frames and could use my old lenses and the price was definitely right! And it all took less than an hour! I won't be wasting my time anywhere else when it's time to get another a pair. A few details about my visit: I went in around 11:30am on a Wednesday The parking lot, as everyone else has stated, is a bit snug, so I parked on the street in a neighborhood nearby. Just a heads up, street cleaning in the neighborhood is scheduled from 10am - 12pm on Wednesdays on one side and Fridays for the other. read more

These people are just as fast and friendly as all the other reviewers said! I'm thinking about getting Lasik, before which you have to wear glasses for a few weeks. Cue me obviously losing my glasses #perfecttiming. So I needed a pair of glasses, didn't want to spend a lot for something I'd wear for less than a month, but wanted to look halfway decent if I'd have to wear them every day for a few weeks. The employees here were completely understanding of my situation and started pulling all their cheapest frames (although they do have Tom Ford for ~250-350 for you classy yelpers). When other reviewers said this place has great prices, I didn't realize they meant frames for as low as $40. I ended up picking a pair for $80 and lenses were $50. They currently have a Yelp deal that got me $20 off. The customer service is amazing. They checked and had my lenses in stock, so they had the glasses ready in 15 minutes! It was so great not having to make a second trip, and I didn't even have to wait very long. I highly recommend this place. This is one of those places that every optometrist i've ever had in this town tells me, 'If you wanna save money on lenses, go here.' But the thing is I don't think any of those doctors ever went there themselves. Because, yeah, the place is cheaper, but their delivery dates are just bald faced bananas. I've taken glasses here twice and both times they were *weeks late*. Seriously. Which is a problem when you lost your glasses and you're squinting through rush hour to get home. And it ain't just me because I've seen customers SCREAMING at this place because their glasses were weeks late as well. And then the guy at the counter apologizes and goes in the back and we can hear him SCREAMING at someone else, who, judging by her voice, sounded *elderly*. I mean, it's just BONKERS. Hye Optic is AMAZING!! I am pretty much blind without my glasses, so, when I was the victim of a hit and run and my glasses flew off and were run over, I was really terrified.. Well, within 15 minutes of arriving at Hye Optic, I had my new specs and could once again see my beautiful babies faces!!! Years ago when I worked in the area, I was referred by a client and because the young lady who assisted me was sweet as pie, and the cost of my glasses at the time was super cheap, I went on to refer a lot of people from my church. So, now knowing they are still sweet as pie lol, still super cost effective, AND have same day service to boot, I'm gonna sing their praises on all my social media. I did find a pair of frames that I liked but I would've loved to have seen other brands to choose from. Parking is really tricky too. Almost all the spots are compact but they really should be called extra compact! You can order contact lenses as well. Oh, FYI they don't do eye exams here. I'm going to give you the quick rundown: I needed my sunglasses to be turned into prescriptions: LensCrafters = $220 polarized, $160 non-polarized. Random Optics = $240 polarized, $130 non-polarized. Hye Optics = $80 polarized, $30 non-polarized. (Prices should vary per frame I think) I went ahead with hye optics, and they had my glasses made in 30 minutes!! The competitors wanted at least a couple of hours up to 5 days. I'll be going back soon! read more

Hye Optic is a fantastic company with great prices (my average prescription lenses cost $70 for anti-scratch and anti-reflection, only $5 more than Costco). This is the second time that Hye Optic has filled my prescription for me and I am very pleased. After having multiple eyeglasses places (including Costco) refuse to work on my glasses because they thought their machine would snap my frames, Hye Optic worked on my glasses without any issue. I called a couple days before with my prescription, so they made sure my lenses were already set aside when I came in. My glasses were all finished in 10 minutes! Later that night, a crack appeared in one of the lenses. The next day, I returned to Hye Optic hoping they would replace the lens. The technician assured me that the crack wasn't my fault and replaced both lessons for free and without complaint. Overall, a company that is reliable, honest, and easy to work with! They get 5 stars from everyone for a reason-- they are super friendly, knowledgeable and don't stop helping until you're happy! They've got a great selection and can order any style frames into the store. Emmanuel helped us during each visit and is such a great guy that he already feels like a friend. He even gave me a couple of great restaurant recommendations for the neighborhood. When my wife decided to buy sunglasses recently, Emmanuel took care of us again! I'm not certain why this place is so highly rated or why people are singing praises for them. I purchased a Living Social deal for Hye Optic and based on the reviews thought it was a safe bet. I was completely wrong. The location is in one of the sketchiest strip malls in Hollywood on the second floor up a set of stairs that looks like a shelter for homeless. The store itself isn't in phenomenal shape either and isn't overly inviting. After browsing their limited selection, I found a pair of glasses that was OK and since the prices were cheap and I had a Living Social coupon I figured I might as well buy them. The frame on hand, however, was scratched and I decided to order a new set. I was told it would take a week and since I was in no rush I agreed. Almost two weeks later I had yet to receive a call and I called the store to check the status. The frames were in but apparently someone forgot to order the lenses. Now, I have a fairly mild, common prescription. How do you run an optical shop without having common lenses in stock or have the foresight to order them during the two weeks you keep a customer waiting? From there, I was assured it wouldn't take long and was told to call THEM back after the weekend. Nice customer service. The following Monday I called in the afternoon and was assured the glasses would be ready for pick up the following day. As they close relatively earlier on weekdays, I left work early on the afternoon they were supposed to be ready and rushed over from the Long Beach area during rush hour. When I got there, I was then told the the glasses weren't ready. Two and a half weeks and the glasses weren't ready. Plus, no one had the decency to call me and let me know when they very well knew I was coming in to pick them up. After calmly discussing all this with the two girls working there I asked for a refund of the purchase price. Of course they weren't even sure this was possible and made me wait for 20 minutes as they tried to figure it out and had me talk to a person, who wasn't very friendly, from their other store. Mind you, no lenses had been cut and the frames were still in the packaging. After some arguing they finally refunded my money and had Living Social refund the voucher. Bottom line... I would never go there again and would never recommend them. The location is poor, selection limited, and customer service nonexistent. They run their business as if they're doing the world a favor and their claim to fame is "surviving for 26 years." That's probably a good description, surviving. Not thriving or flourishing, but just barely getting by. I'm convinced the remainder of the reviews are loaded. read more

This is one of the best opticals I've been to. There is no eye check-ups here, but the workers have great suggestions. That said, I woke up this morning and decided that today would be a good day to buy new frames! Man, I was happy I found this awesome place on Yelp. The store is definitely a "hole-in-the-wall," like it's in a very non-mainstream part of Hollywood. The shop itself is small, but it's covered with frames. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by a very nice and helpful woman. I immediately told her what I was looking for in frames and she had an ample load of suggestions. We were able to break it down to two styles: aviator and big square frames. It was so hard to choose, so she got Emmanuel, the manager, to come out to help me decide which frames were the best. It was awesome, I got really good advice and was extremely happy with the frames! Here comes the best part...the frames were so cheap. The quality is still great, and for vintage, it was like $10-20 (I can't remember the exact price). To pop in the lens with anti-glare was about $45. I also redeemed the Yelp coupon ($30 for $50) and ended up paying only $40 (i think...lol) for my order! But wait...it gets better. I was expecting to receive my glasses in like two-three weeks like most places, but they attempted to get my glasses then and there! Unfortunately, my lens weren't readily available, but I was told that I would receive them by Tues/Wed! That's really, REALLY fast! Not only that, but the workers here are very social and friendly. We started talking about the most random things for like 20 minutes straight LOL! It felt like I was hanging out with a group of my friends while waiting for my frames. It was a good experience and I felt pretty damn good walking out of there. Parking is free as there is just a private lot. Hours are actually from 10:30AM to 4/5PM, depending on the day. Is this place for real? My hubbie needed new frames and had to have his prescription put in after a crummy experience at LensCrafters, so we searched on Yelp and found Hye Optic. The exam he got at Lencrafters was semi pricey but to fill the script and get new frames would've cost over $400 there! They didn't even have that great of a selection to choose from. Not at Hye Optic! It only cost us a little over $150..... for frames and to put the script in. Plus we did the $30 for $50 deal on Yelp. We love this place. Ask for Shake, she is a sweetheart and very knowledgable about frames. They have an incredible selection and they don't rob you blind, no pun intended. read more

Long story short: I'm house/dog sitting for a friend. I get back to her house to find my only pair of glasses have been chewed up. I know I've been needed an eye exam and new contacts and glasses. But I was not prepared to spend the money on a whim. Freaking out, I called the only places I heard had cheap vision centers, Walmart and Target. With quotes at well above $100 just for the exam, plus another $100 for new frames and lenses, I thought I was going to have to go "blind" for awhile (and I'm really blind)! I checked Yelp and came across Hye Optic. After reading reviews, I figured I'd check them out. $40, yup, FORTY DOLLARS, for a new pair of frames. My lenses were able to be popped in. This place is just awesome. Got a pair of really nice frames as a gift, needed to get my prescription filled in them. Called my usual optometrist where I was quoted nearly THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS (?!). I literally laughed and said, "Are you high?" One quick Yelp search later and I found Hye Optic in my neighborhood. Everyone there was so helpful and nice! They filled my frames with poly lenses with the anti glare for $45. It was ACTUALLY $30 because I bought the $30-for-$50 Yelp deal. Their prices were so good, I couldn't even hit $50! This place is so awesome. I called around to get quotes on lenses, and they had the best prices by far. I had purchased some vintage Dior frames on eBay and was going to have them put in new lenses, but I decided that the frames were actually too small and, thus, not flattering on my big face. The guy who was helping me assisted me in finding much more flattering vintage frames, AND he bought the Dior frames from me for the same amount that I'd spent on them, so I was very happy about that. I picked up my new glasses yesterday and love them so much. I will definitely go here for glasses and contact lenses in the future. read more

I bought a pair of ray ban's at Nordstrom for about $125, decent sale price for fashionable, name brand plastic. When I took the Ray Ban's, to 3 local west hollywood optical shops to be altered into prescription, transitions, with progressive (hidden bi focal) lenses, the rate was quoted upwards of $390-$400 which is a nightmare/joke depending on your annual income generation, and sense of humor. I found Hye Optic on Yelp, they honored my Yelp deal, took a little longer than I wanted to have them sent out to Florida (for treatment), then returned in 5-7 days. ALl in all in was worth it, but if i was making 350,00 a year, I'd probably go ahead and spend the money in one of the placed that charges too much. The transition lenses don't get dark at all through car windows, and kind of have a cheap look about them. service was good. Parking lot sucks. read more
