Hyman Bros in Midlothian VA changed the oil in my 2015 crosstrek last Thursday. After driving the car home, we did not drive it again until Tuesday. When we drove it on Tuesday we started hearing a noise that sounded like sawing through cardboard. We didn't know if we could keep driving it or if that would do damage to the car. So we went of course to AI. AI said one possibility is that the transmission fluid was accidentally emptied instead of the oil and then more oil put in the car. So I checked the oil level and it is indeed over the max level. And if we drive it like this - the transmission will be ruined. So for HOURS today we have been trying to arrange to get it towed to Subaru. Early today they said THEY would tow it. We had to call another number then go to a link, then fill out a form. We did all of that and in the end it said we had to talk to an agent. We talk to the agent and they say we have to pay. Well why should we pay when this is most likely caused by Subaru. So after hours of going back and forth with them - now they say we have to arrange AAA to get it towed to them. And they are repeating that if it is not their fault they are not paying. I shouldn't have had to do any of this. I shouldn't have had to arrange another ride home from work on Tuesday. It's really hard to understand not being sympathetic to a LONG time customer (11 years) when you most likely are the cause of the problem. When you get a car serviced you don't expect it to be in worse shape the day after than it was before you brought it to the dealer. read more

BEWARE OF THIS DEALERSHIP!!! I purchased a $3500 Extended Warranty from Hyman Bros at: Hyman Bros. Subaru, 11960 Midlothian Turnpike Midlothian, VA 23113 FOR MY 2019 LINCOLN MKC, and especially wanted all regular maintenance covered. When I tried to get the car serviced I was told that I paid for a policy that only covered electrical systems and other the regular maintenance. I was told, face-to-face, and I pushed this issue, that I wanted this, and was told "no problem - you are fully covered. I attempted to contact the dealership and received no response so not we are going to court. They ripped me off, and I believe purposely as I was very specific about this because with my other car the very same thing happened (but that car maker admitted the problem and fixed it). read more

I can't speak for the service here at Hyman Bros Subaru. I see many yelpers are very displeased with the service. Sorry to see that... and will keep that in mind. That said, I can speak about the sales department... and that's where they get an impressive 4 stars on the yelp scale. I recently went in with my wife for a test drive. We were greeted upon our arrival in a courteous and attentive manner. We asked to test-drive a new vehicle and were set up within 5 minutes. We took a long-loop drive and learned about the vehicle along the way from our sales rep. After our questions were answered re: the new Subaru we test drove, we made an offer. The offer was accepted and we closed the transaction the very next day. Easy peazy. That's really how easy business can be done if it's done properly by professionals. We didn't have to spend any time in the waiting area, but it looks nice. Plenty of drinks available. I tried a cappuccino at one point. Nice touch. All the staff were friendly. We didn't detect any dodgy sales practices or obfuscation or any other shenanigans. We can't say the same for some Hyman Bros competitors (especially the terrible Moore Subaru of Richmond)... but hey, bad competitors just means Hyman Bros Subaru will get more business. Good for them. At some point, we'll likely need service. And if it proves to be as hassle-free, courteous, and professional as their sales department, then I'll update this to the elusive yet highly coveted 5-star yelp review. read more

Predatory financing and sales team, they will try to push a lease onto you explaining it's much cheaper and "what all my family does", additionally, they will change the terms on you as soon as you step into the finance office. My Subaru Forester was hit on the driver side rear fender. I took it to Hyman Bros Collision. They had it for 8 weeks and did not return calls when they said they would. I was concerned as I had not heard from them for several weeks. I went by to make sure it was still there. I was assured it would be clean when finished. It was very gritty when I picked it up. They replaced the rear sensor on the dented side. My car now beeps that I am close to an object but there is nothing there. The manager _ Mr. Tharpe arranged for me to have it calibrated at the dealer across the street. This was in June. It still beeps when there is nothing there rendering the alert system totally useless. The customer service is terrible. I called to get an update as 8 weeks is a long time and the phone was not answered most of the time and when I did get someone they said they would check on the progress and call me back which they never did. I am very dissappointed in their service. I must say the outside body work looks nice but the sensor still does not work. read more

I bought my brand new Subaru from Pence. Hyman Bros. bought them out, I guess. When I bought from Pence, I got a lifetime free oil changes. I have done this twice now at Hyman Bros. and today they tell me that I can't continue to come back unless I have my car serviced there. Say what? That was not the deal. I do not appreciate being told that I must spend money on something and where I must do that. I really love my Subaru. This is my second Subaru, and I'd probably buy another one, just not at Hyman Bros. They also offered to wash my car. It rained yesterday so it was dirty. They washed the hood and the windshield. The rest didn't look like anything had been done at all. Now, this was free, but why even bother if you aren't going to do it right? Such a weird experience. I recently moved to Richmond with a leased Subaru. It was time for my oil change and I wanted to take it to a local dealer. Hyman Brothers was recommended by a co-worker, so I called for an appointment. They were able to get me in the next day. I had a few options of times and was able to pick what worked best for my schedule. When I arrived on a rainy day, I was able to pull my car right into the garage. I was greeted by an extremely friendly man. He got me set up and told me to head to the waiting area. They had a wide variety of Kuerig cups (including tea and hot chocolate for the non-coffee drinkers like me). They had a children's area and a TV. I was able to easily connect my computer while I waited. It didn't take very long for them to finish my oil change and they washed my car! It definitely needed it. read more

GO ELSEWHERE TO BUY YOUR SUBARU! Was so happy when I purchased my Subaru. Have had it a little over 3 months now. When I purchased it, I was told I had an option that I wanted on the car. Since the purchase, it never worked. Took it in yesterday for oil change, was told, yes once again that I have the option. Told them it did not work. They even told me they fixed it while doing the service! That was the 3rd time I was lied to about it. Today, I call to say it still does not work. Was told once again by a 'manager' that I have the option. About 8 minutes into the phone call, someone in the background is going it is only an option and it wasn't on my car. So, 4 times I was lied to. 4 Times!!! I have called Subaru of America. Told them about the lies and how rude, and I mean rude, the people are at this dealership. I do not expect anything to happen, but at least I tried. I really wanted that option too. Go elsewhere, hopefully the staff will know if you are getting what you ask for...... read more

If I could add stars to this rating I would. I took my car in to get the oil changed and left the dealership and realized that I had left a large sum of cash in the car that Dustin found and secured. In addition to this, I had some light body damage done to the roof of the car and I asked for an estimate to fix it. He looked over the damage and told me that he thought his detail person could fix it. And fix it they did! It was perfect. They charged me nothing for this additional service. I bought my Subaru at another dealer five years ago, and have always been happy with the service at that dealership. I recently moved, and Hyman Brothers is the closest dealer. I made an appointment for an oil change at 10am and arrived on time. I dropped off my vehicle and went to lunch. Two and half hours later, I still had not received a call that the work was done, so I tried calling the service manager. I made four calls that all went to voicemail. Then I called the sales office, and they answered on the first ring. I told them service wasn't answering the phone and asked for help. They transferred me, but apparently didn't walk over and talk to anyone, because I was once again directed to voicemail. I got a ride back to the dealer and asked when I could expect it to be done. The service rep told me that my car was still waiting in line. Then he told me that my 10am appointment wasn't for the actual service. ("A lot of people don't understand that...") The appointment is just to talk to the service rep (a conversation that consisted of confirming which car was coming in, what service I needed, and how to contact me when it was done). He said that they work on the cars for people who are waiting first and then take drop-offs in the order they arrive. Ignoring the fact that that is the least logical, equitable or efficient system I've ever heard of, how is it that a car I dropped off at 10am hasn't made it to the front of the line by 12:45pm? What is the point of making an appointment if it's not for the service? Although I had planned the drop-off to avoid sitting in a waiting room during a pandemic, I agreed to wait so that they would move my car to the front of the line. It took 45min for the oil change to be completed after I agreed to wait. read more

This review is for the service department: Very helpful, and the right price, especially for a dealership. I love my '13 Outback so, so, so much, but after trying the dealership on the West End for service (and finding them totally insufferable, both in price and in attitude), I had been taking my car for oil changes at a local garage. I will now be taking it to Hyman Bros, as I find their service personnel EXTREMELY helpful, and cost-effective. In the past two years, my "check oil" light had come on twice at about 3000 miles after an oil change. This made me concerned that something was going on with the engine, and required me to buy oil to add to my car between changes AND get oil changes at about half the interval as recommended. Concerning. After getting my oil changed at the dealership, I don't have that problem. Was the other garage not putting in enough oil for the change? I don't know. I do know that I'll continue coming to Hyman Brothers for Subaru service, and am really happy they're here. read more

In 45 minutes not a single person came and asked me if I needed help. Instead they stood by the front door and chain smoked cigarettes the entire time. So I got in my truck and drove off. About a month ago, my car began smoking and the engine seized up. Since I had purchased my car from Hyman Bros. two years ago, I called them and they connected me up with a tow company they worked with to have my car brought to the dealership. Once I arrived, Phil was there to greet me and was exceptionally helpful in explaining the process and getting me into a loaner car. It turned out that the issue was part of a recall, Phil talked me through the process of having my car repaired and what I would need to do afterwards to follow-up with them. After 2 weeks, my car was back and running great and my dogs got some cool toys out of the whole ordeal :)! Thank you for all of your help and excellent customer service! read more

While I was unable to use my Subaru due to airbag recall, I was provided a rental car at no charge. That's the only good part. My car sat at Hyman Brothers from August 2016 until January 2017. Though I was told they started the car regularly, the battery (purchased August 2015) was dead. I was called and informed about this and that my state inspection was expired. I was told I would have to come get the car and take it to get a new battery.( still under warrenty from place of purchase). They did offer to do the inspection which I agreed too. When I arrived (its raining) I was told my car was right outside, it was not. It was down at the end of the building now it won't start I return to the service area to request a jump and tracked back to the car. The serviceman jumped my car and off I was sent. Now I must go get new battery. Battery replaced I head home, my car is vibrating and bumping. After consulting a mechanic I'm told my tires are flat spotted from sitting so long, and the brakes are all rusty. I didn't call the dealership, too aggravated to deal with them. The bottom line for me... They kept my car for 6 months, I expected my car to be in the same shape it was when I dropped it off. The recall repairs were made but I'm unhappy with the way it was returned. I would not recommend this dealership. read more

Epitome of old school sleazy car sales tactics... After a brief intent search about cars, we got a call from one of the sales guys. - Brent Farmer. Hew asked when I could come in to look at the cars. We had a few other dealerships I wanted to stop at first and I told him as much. He was slightly taken aback, and asked if I could schedule a time to come in. I said no as I wasn't sure when we would be by. He then asked for my cell phone number so he could call me throughout the day to check in. I declined that as well, and left it as I would ask for him when we came in. You could hear the disappointment in his voice. I should have stopped here... After getting to the dealership, I met with the salesman I spoke with on the phone. I stated that I wanted to look at an SUV, but needed to sit in it before we went any further to make sure my husband would fit in the passengers seat. Instead, he told me to go it in his office so he could figure out what I wanted. I said either e Forester or an Outback, and reiterated again that I would like to see the cars first as I had never been in a Subaru before. He was very insistent that we sit down, so I did. He then proceeded to tell me how generous of a person he was because he was a Christian, and wanted me to see that he had "Jesus" and "Christ" tattooed on his wrists to prove it. He then went into a story about how he met his wife on Christian mingle, and he was so proud of the fact that she was 11 years younger than he was. At this point my husband walks in and insist that we see the car. The salesman agrees and takes =us out to see an Outback. He stops before we hit the door, and tells us another story about how he will do ANYTHING to make this deal. Free tents? Sure, Free chairs? sure. ANYTHING WE WANT. He has recently lost a bunch of weight and how hes not depressed anymore. He has to take all these meditations but its worth it. By this time, we have been at the dealership for almost 45 minutes and have yet to see the car. He introduces us to the Dealership manager, who knew me by name, and new the car I drove, which I assume he pulled from a service record. He talked to me like we were neighbors. I had never met this man in my life, and yet he assured me that he knew me. We finally get out to go see the cars. We test drive an Outback, Its nice. I ask about the Forester, but he says we wont fit in it. We go back into the office to talk money, an there a Forester there. We get in it and have MORE room than the Outback, and its less expensive. I ask to drive a Forester, and they proceeded to open the showroom so i can take this one out. I like it. We go talk numbers now. I ask what other models there are, and he tells me that the next model up is the Premium, but " I dont need special tires or a moon roof, and I should stick with the one I test drove." We tell him our MAX budget, and make a point in saying that we will not play the back and forth game. He is to come back once, with manager if need be, so as not to play the dealership game. He assures us its not a problem. 20 minutes later he comes back with a number that is almost $100 OVER budget. I get up to walk a=way and the manager comes in and asks when he can give me the keys. We explain the situation and the manager takes the paperwork back and assures he can get the numbers where we need it to be. We tell them they have one more chance to bring a number back thats within budget for us to consider the car, and f it doesn't work, no big deal. 30 minutes later he comes back with a price thats $.10 under budget and asks us to sign a contract. We say no, that we need to clear it with the rest of the family and will need a minute to make a phone call. The manager gets really upset, and says that he was told that we were buying the car if he got the price where we wanted it to be. Its not fair to him that we weren't serious. He already had the car taken back for detailing. It was at this point that I had my last straw. I said no and I wanted to leave. The salesman had the gall to corner me in his office and ask when i was coming back to buy the car. I said it wasn't likely, he says but he leaves in July and he spent all this time with me. It wast fair that I didn't buy the car after all this. I'm furious at this point and leave. Its been over a week since this incident, and I still cant belie how the entire event happened. We bought a 2017 Outback from Hyman Bros Subaru in Sept 2016. My wife and I love the car and have taken back to Hyman Bros on two separate occasions for service, despite living 86 miles away. This past Tuesday, we made an appointment for an oil change, filter, and tire rotation. Since we live so far away, we made another appointment at 2pm figuring that should be more than enough time. Guess we figured wrong! Arriving at our scheduled time, we were met with a service advisor who verified what we were there for, and then ushered into the customer waiting area. Shortly thereafter, another service advisor came in trying to sell us on an additional $450 worth of goods and services. We declined, and our car sat in the service lane where we left it. An hour later with our car still sitting there I inquired and was told they were backed up but would get it shortly. At 1:15pm, our car still "waiting to get in", I asked to speak with whoever was in charge of the dealership. The first person said he was the sales mgr but had nothing to do with service. I asked for the owners emailed and was given (I later found out) a bogus email. I went back to the service area and was told the "service" mgr was out but the person I was speaking with was the asst service mgr. I explained my problem and received an apology saying they should have told us when we checked in. Yes, they should have! We could have gone elsewhere and rescheduled for another day. We were offered a loaner car to make our other appointment but that was declined as we still had an 86 mile drive home. We left after wasting about two hours. Later I sent an email to the dealership customer service thinking maybe they could learn from their mistake in how to treat their customers but apparently someone thought it would be fun to tell an unsuspecting salesperson I wanted help in buying a car, haha! This place was very close to not getting any business from me. I came in looking for either an Impreza, Forester, or WRX, and I was approached by a salesman named Patrick Coleman. He eyed me up and down and I could tell that immediately that he did not seriously think I was there to buy a car (I already had my financing set). I've NEVER came in contact with a salesman so non-chalant about a sale. He didn't really wanna explain much about the cars I inquired about and It seemed as if He was rushing me through the process. Now, after I mentioned that I had my financing in place , he all of a sudden became my best friend there. The fact that he saw a young man in his young 20s and immediately thought I was wasting time is terrible sales business. Thankfully, Robert King Sr was able to help get me in my new Impreza sport hatchback. I told Robert I was interested in the car and his first response to me was "Let's go get you the keys so you can see it better!" Robert's professionalism helped over turn what was a TERRIBLE first impression and helped get me in the car I wanted for the price I could pay. If you choose Hyman Bros as the place to purchase your new Subaru, do yourself a favor and make sure Patrick does not handle any aspect of your sale. We bought a 2015 Forester cash from Subaru while it was still under Pence. Upon Hyman taking over everything changed regarding customer service. Long story short we have had an issue with the vehicle which has been brought up during our last three visits. Every single time we get a different answer as to what needs to be done in order to address the problem. The reps behind the counter (three total thus far) talk smack about one another given "he should have never told you that" or "he should have told you or done this"....You NEVER get a straight answer. Don't bother leaving a voicemail because they won't call you back and if you speak with Lee (Leigh) whichever, he is condescending and won't own the very words he has told you in past visits. If you're in the immediate Richmond area and seeking a Subaru do yourself a favor and just go to Richmond Subaru on West Broad Street. To be fair not all Hyman shops are like this, I've interacted with others and NEVER been given the run around as I have at this Subaru shop, much less spoken down to as I have with Hyman Subaru. read more
