My car's tires needed to be rotated and we found Allen to have a very reasonable fee. After rotation, a message kept popping on in my car saying that the tires were low on air. When I was driving by the next day, I ran in and asked if it was typical for the warning to come on after tires were rotated. Brandon was not sure because he wasn't familiar with the model of my vehicle, but he bravely insisted on going outside in the freezing wind to check them for me, at no extra charge. GREAT SERVICE ALERT: Allen Tire in Midlothian. Our trusted mechanic retired recently so we had to find a new, reliable, reasonable mechanic. Following recommendations, we went to Allen Tire at 13210 Midlothian Turnpike to fix cracked headlamps and investigate a noise underneath the car when we accelerated. Some mechanics would have taken the opportunity to tell us the transmission was bad or some other expensive repair. Allen Tire found it needed a $12 exhaust brace. AND, when I had a subsequent question at 5 p.m. (closing time), they told me to come back and the technician would stay for me (it was a 2-minute fix based on my idiocy). Appointment was made within a few days, and the process was easy. Their service was excellent and they checked the tire pressure in all of the tires. There did not appear to be much of a waiting room. The Allen Tire sign should be more prominent. The Goodyear sign is bigger. They test drove the vehicle and found nothing wrong. They could have told me that the break pads were worn and I needed to replace them and the rosters, but they didn't. Finding tires at an APPROPRIATE price around Richmond is like trying to find Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. It's easier finding your car keys and the remote control. Heck, I think finding NEMO was easier! Also, next month (March 2018) marks FOUR YEARS and they still haven't found that airplane. I, on the other hand, have found my new tire guy. I spoke with Gary Allen himself and he showed me the way. Allen Tire is a Good Year brand shop, so if that's your brand, he's your man. I ended up going to GoodYear.com and the chat window specialist ended up price matching the tire for me. I paid for my entire order online and was sent on my merry way. About thirty minutes later I got a phone call pushing UP my appointment. Well that was music to my ears. We ended up dropping the car off at 5:45pm (15 minutes before closing) and at 8:20am the next morning the car was done. How you like them apples? YELP is very harsh on auto shops so to see this place hold a four star rating is a good sign. You can certainly count me as a very satisfied customer. read more

Got to their location and noticed there were not that many vehicles in the lot. Go inside give my name. The gentleman at the counter ask " this is a drop off correct?" I explained to him that no I was gonna have to wait plans changed. He then tells me that " well we have you down as a drop-off so it's gonna be a couple of hours before we can get to you!" So, I really used to like taking my truck up here. The guys used to be super fair and helpful - much better service and work than other local shops. However, recently have just been super unimpressed. I took one of my vehicles to be inspected, it did not pass and I took it elsewhere to get the necessary work done to meet the two requirements. This shop wanted to charge over $300 to install a headlight assembly when I had the part already. Wtf. I was also charged $20.00 for the failed inspection - whatever, no big deal. So I bring the same vehicle back after getting everything fixed and am charged another $20.00 for them to recheck the brakes and headlight assembly. Cool. Get every penny you can fellas. My main issue, is that I was charged $40.00 total for an inspection. My other vehicle however was 16.00 - which is the price I'm used to paying for inspections. Not sure why the price varies? I also bought tires from this location on my last inspection and am told a year later they don't cover Michelin's for road hazard because they "don't sell enough of them". Just annoying and was never told this upfront. Needless to say, I've found another shop who took great care of me and my vehicles without trying to charge me top dollar as many auto shops do when you're a female. read more

I really wanted this to be my go to place after Hyman Bros Nissan let me down but it didn't take long for them to do the same. I had an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation on Saturday and dropped my car off the night before. When they hadn't called me by closing time on Saturday I got a ride over there assuming my car would be ready. It was still sitting in the same spot when I got there and I was told they didn't get to it. They didn't offer me any kind of coupon or compensation for my wasted time. All I got was a lackluster apology and an offer to reschedule. Not good business at all! Time to find yet another place to take my car. Maybe the third time will be the charm. read more

I had my car towed to Allen Tire because it wouldn't start and I was afraid it was the alternator. It was taken over after hours so I called in the morning to make sure they had gotten the keys and was told that the car was already done (which is great) and it was only the battery (also a relief). Her is the part where I have a problem. They did not call me to let me know it was the battery or get my permission to replace it, nor did they quote me a price. When I arrived to get my car they charged me $300 and tried to tell me my car needs a special battery. They must think I'm an idiot (I have an Elantra and previously replaced a battery for $75 by going to autozone. They changed it out for me for free). I will not be returning to Allen Tire. I added this feedback for 2 reasons: 1. Being new to Virginia, we needed a state inspection. I set an appointment & had my wife go in to have the state inspection done. They told her it would need lower control arm bushings to pass, which ended up costing me $850. I do not dispute the need for the repair but the cost was extremely high. Parts were $400; I found them online for $120; that's quite a markup. Labor took only 2 hours, but they charged me $352. That $16 state inspection got really expensive! 2. I added a review on their personal website (allentireva.com), and noticed that since it was not a '5 star' review, that it never actually posted. That ain't right, Allen Tire. Ever since I owned my first car (over 20 years ago), I have always come to this Allen Tire location anytime I needed service done on my car and have never had a bad experience. The people that run this establishment are very friendly and always address the customers properly by name (a big plus in my book). Plus they always stand behind their work and have never once tried to scam me. I always found their prices for services to be a lot more reasonable than their competitors based on my own research. Also, the free wi-fi comes in handy so I can use my laptop while my car is being worked on. I don't think I would be comfortable taking my car anyplace else and I plan to keep coming here as long as they stay in business. read more

A few weeks ago, I noticed one of my headlights was burned out. I bought a new bulb and changed it myself. The new bulb wouldn't work, and I did some research online. I found out there was the possibility that there was a problem with my car's electrical system. This morning I walked into Allen Tire prepared to blow the budget for the month. My appointment was for having my electrical system looked at, and I also needed a state inspection. In just about 30 minutes, they called me to the counter to tell me the only problem was that the bulb socket was dirty. I know very little about cars, and these guys know it. Today they could have made a killing, but they didn't. Instead, they cleaned the socket, they did my inspection, and let me go with just a $16 charge. read more

I've used Allen Tire pretty much exclusively for over 20 years for all of my repairs and maintenance (excluding body and transmission work). They have always treated me fairly and have priced their work reasonably. Never once have I felt that they were taking advantage of me. Despite being a Goodyear dealer, they have been happy to research pricing on (and sell me) cheaper tires from other manufacturers when asked. They have declined to do maintenance I have asked for when it didn't need to be done, or when it wasn't appropriate in light of my near-term plans for the car. And I don't think I've had to bring a car back for rework more than once or twice in 20+ years--they always do excellent work. read more

If I could give a negative star I would. We have been taking our cars to Allen Tire for over 15 years and never had a bad experience until this week. We took our daughter's car in for an inspection and was told the car needed new brake pads, rotors, and after keeping it all day they called again saying it would also need a new break caliper, all to the tune of 555 dollars. We weren't happy about the cost but trusted them and went ahead with the repairs. After picking the car up my daughter noticed the breaks weren't working correctly and she had to use all her force to get them to work. Next thing the break light came on and we really started to worry. We took the car back to Allen tire and they said it was a defective caliper. They had used a re-manufactured one and didn't even bother to tell us but I'm sure they certainly charged us for a new one. When we asked why we weren't told they were using a re-manufactured part they just shrugged and said it's standard. I call BS on that and feel like we were taken for a ride this time. How would they feel if it was their 22 year old driving back to college in a car where someone installed faulty break parts? They offered nothing in return, no apology, nothing! We have 5 cars that we will now be taking somewhere else to be serviced. For all of you who gave them 5 stars for your one or two time great service visits, just wait, I'm sure around your 4th or 5th visit they'll nail you too! I no longer trust these people. read more

I found this place locally from Yelp that has a lot of good reviews... I originally went here to get a new tire and a oil change. Everything went well with getting the tire and oil changed. But it doesn't change the fact that they tried to scam me by saying my battery needed to be replaced (1 month old.) So I went to advanced auto and they did a free alternator and battery check and both were in really good condition.. no problems.. so why Allen Tire.. why you do you want me to throw away a good working battery and give you over $100 for a new one? Seriously hard to find auto mechanics to trust these days. Smh.. JUST A TIP OF ADVICE!! Take your car to another mechanic to get a different opinion on your car issues.. might save you time and money that someone is STEALING from you. read more

My truck died on my way to work. I had AAA tow it to Allen Tire since a friend of mine recommended them. They quickly looked at my truck, though they found nothing wrong with it at first. Since I only lived about a mile away from there they drove my home while they looked at it (not that I would've minded staying there; they have a sweet pit bull mix in the lobby). They found the problem, and my truck was fixed that afternoon. They picked me back up and took me home. The price they charged me was more than fair (my total bill was $286, which included $115 for the part that had to be replaced and $16 for the inspection). I was born and raised in Detroit, my father worked for Chrysler for almost 30 years, and I've been working on cars since I was a baby, so I am skeptical when it comes to mechanics; these guys are awesome! read more

I begin by saying I do not work for Allen Tire and did not receive any financial compensation from them for writing this review. My 2006 Mustang GT had the dreaded check engine light go on. Allen Tire noted that I had a leak, and water had gotten behind the dashboard. They suspected this was related to the check engine light problem. They said I should bring the car to the Ford Dealership to find the leak source, and fix the check engine light. The Ford Dealership found and repaired the leak, and to fix the check engine light they replaced the Body Control Module and spark plugs. When I picked up the car from the dealership the check engine light was still on. I said to the dealership you did not fix the problem. They said my problem was in the wiring harness and to find which particular wire was shorting would cost me a lot of money. I was frustrated and brought my car back to Allen Tire and told them what the Ford Dealership had said. Mr. Gary Allen took my car to one of his best mechanics and this mechanic figured out that my problem was not in the wiring, but was a bad PCM. To save me money Allen Tire found a refirbrished PCM. They also took my old "Engine Tune" off the old PCM, and transferred it to my hand held "SCT" device, and then reloaded it to my new PCM. Allen Tire went above and beyond the call. They diagnosed my problem when the Ford Dealership could not. Allen Tire also saved me money by searching out and finding a refirbrished PCM (which is half the cost of a new one). My car runs like a charm and the dreaded red check engine light no longer is a problem. If you want your problem correctly diagnosed, and fixed at a reasonable price, my advice is to go to Allen Tire. read more

In route to work I discovered that my tire pressure notification was on in my car. Being new to town, I quickly pulled over to search my handy dandy yelp app for local tire stores. I have my Yelp search preset for close proximity. With that being said, I first ended up at a close-by competitor that clearly did not want my business. (Hello? I have a flat, I can't come back tomorrow, I need help today.) By default and moving on to Plan B, I made my way to Allen Tire. The friendly black Lab that greeted me as I pulled in should have been a clear sign that this place was for me. They took me in, accessed the damage, made the necessary repairs for a more than fair price, and I was on my way in no time. After reading other Yelpers, who rated them well, they should have been my first choice, by far. I have since changed my preset to "best rated" to save me time and future frustrations.
