No complaints for quality of food and entertainment from chef! Prices are a bit high but they give a good portion and if you're lucky, you can sample orders from a diff party at your shared table when there's extra lol. Cocktail was dangerous because of how good it was. They will give you a free dessert if you post on instagram with their hashtag and follow their account. Their "happy hour" isn't much of a happy hour as it is available every day from open to close so that might be worth checking out. Love that you have options to get a half order on some of the rolls. Got seated right away for a party of 4 on a holiday. Service could definitely use a lot of work though - workers don't seem the most hospitable or seem to forget the things you ask for. Hello and good afternoon let snake better choices and be better people. Let snot expect tips for bad or even dare I say shitty service. I mean the place is small and somewhat packed for the size of the e building and how much room they have per square foot. They totally maximize and capitalize on this very situation. Then at the end of this so called superior service you are forced/expected to pay the server out a 20%.........like the heck did you do. The chef cooks the food server take order and bring food. The waitress was none existent the entire time and expected me to tip her. It's was Mother's Day and I had the family out with me. I've got no problem paying for food or even great service but you got to be doing your job. God bless and my best advice would be to stay far away from this 3star establishment and find a better choice. This is was not my choice as my wife wanted to go to this location it being her first time. I keeping on trucking on and keep on going to Benihana's which is better in my opinion. read more

Mother's Day 2026 started off pretty rough for our table. We had a 6:00 PM reservation and didn't receive our food until nearly 2 hours later, which is honestly unacceptable, especially on such an important day. That being said, we could clearly see the issue was not the chefs' fault. Cesar was upfront with us and explained that they were severely backed up because 2 chefs had called out. Despite the chaos, he kept a great attitude the entire time, was hilarious while cooking, and still tried his best to make the experience enjoyable. What really turned the experience around was Armando, the manager. Instead of avoiding the situation, he took accountability and made things right by giving our entire table a discount for the inconvenience. That level of customer service and professionalism definitely earned our business moving forward. The wait was frustrating and needs improvement, but the way Cesar and Armando handled the situation is the reason we'd still be coming back. read more

Honestly , I haven't even left this restaurant yet and I was so excited to leave a review . 10/10 service , my god they are on top of things here ! We have a big birthday group and a worker overheard my son asking for a cherry from a friend and she brought him a plate of them ! I was floored ! Never have we had this kind of attention and service at a restaurant. Also one of my kids wanted just potstickers but when the food was being made he was complimenting how good the food looked and the awesome cook put some on his plate ! 5stars for Shogun San Marcos- enjoyed another great hibachi steak dinner with a fun exciting experience. Great customer service from Isaac and Rueben -very attentive throughout our dinner. Our chef Antonio was very fun, enthusiastic & entertaining! We ordered steak/shrimp and steak/chicken cooked to perfection grilled veggies and fried rice. Still reasonably priced compared to Benihana & the same quality of food and cooking show. Portion size is also still generous 1 meal could still be split and be enough and satisfying. This place is usually a solid 4-5 stars, but our most recent visit really lowered our expectations for this location. Overall, it's hit or miss. The space itself is pretty spacious, with no wait time even during peak lunch or dinner hours, and there's plenty of parking. The chefs have varied over the few times I've visited, but portions are generally generous. Ava at the front desk is always friendly. One downside is that one of the women's bathroom stalls can feel a bit cramped. Caesar: The food was great--especially the veggies. The noodle seasoning paired well with everything. Berto: The meats were great, though they could be cut into smaller portions. Service was very quick. My potatoes were still a little on the raw side, but he was friendly. On our most recent visit, we ordered from the happy hour menu but were charged full price. Our server also accidentally entered a full roll order and doubled it. We notified her, and she helped us adjust the price. 1/5 stars for Yuki, the manager. She could benefit from additional training in customer relations and management. She interrupted me before I could fully explain the situation and said she was trying to explain the prices--I already understood the prices. She then accused me of eating the entire roll before even looking at our dishes. We ordered from the happy hour menu (I even pointed to the item on the menu) specifically because of the smaller portion sizes. Since it was our first time ordering sushi here, we were initially surprised by the portion size and didn't know what to expect. Yuki could have handled this better by listening and simply adjusting the roll to the happy hour price. Instead, she adjusted the price by just a little bit without clearly explaining and accused us of eating the whole roll, then told us she had given us a "discount," even though they typically don't do that. We didn't eat the whole roll. Pointed that out and she adjusted it unwillingly and with a scoff. The interaction felt unpleasant and honestly a bit scummy. The rest of the staff at the bar and counter were still very friendly, and our server, Alani, apologized on her behalf for the miscommunication. Everyone else was great--just not the manager. Would I come back? Probably, or maybe just drive to the Temecula location. I like everything else about this place, but I'd avoid interacting with the manager if possible. She was also dining at one of the teppanyaki tables around 6 p.m., so she probably didn't like interrupting her dinner--but are there no other managers available? Also, the price was not adjusted. She applied the "discount" but it was after taxes. So I was taxed on a full roll amount, then she just subtracted the difference that was pre-tax. That's not how you should do business. read more

A great restaurant for a little show with dinner. Prices are competitive to Benihana. Chefs are entertaining. Fried rice always! Half of us ordered the Wagyu this time with our shrimp. It's a first for me at teppanyaki spot. As you'd imagine, it was very good. I didn't bother with the ginger or yum yum sauce. They had a larger variety of veggies - bell pepper and potatoes are new. Dinner also included a small side of noodles. New additions to included offerings according to the chef. A pleasant surprise. We had an early dinner reservation at 5pm and maybe 3 tables or so were taken. By the time we were done (maybe 6:30pm) the restaurant was full with a few parties waiting for a table. read more

Each station holds up to 10 people and we had exactly 10 which worked out. They had celebration cake which was really nice. I would come back for sure. I would even try to come during lunch. I don't like to write bad reviews but this is going to happen. First we made reservations. The hostess was friendly. While we were waiting we got some happy hour drinks. The bar staff were kind. We shared with them on ohone when making reservations, then when we walked in and then the waitress we were celebrating a birthday and anniversary with our group. The "show" was just average, he cooked didn't talk. He didn't look happy. The food was bland. You had to upgrade for fried rice and the portion of food was small. The veggies were potatoes sliced small and cooked and broccoli little onion. Potatoes at a teppanyaki??? Saving $$ I guess. When the meal was done we ordered a dessert. We were expecting the special singing for the birthday that's why you go to someplace like this for a special event. . When the lady brought the bill and ice cream I said excuse me can we sing happy birthday? Her answer was I don't have time and she left. We spent close to 200.00 for a Special night out and was very disappointed. We sang to my husband. The manager was leaning against the wall the entire time we were there, 'observing' everyone else around him working. They also kept trying to take our plates while we were eating which felt very pushy to move us along. It was 5pm on a Monday. Not busy...when we were ready to leave the family went to the car and I decided to let the manager know about the disappointing service and how we told the staff 3 times we were there for a very special bday and anniversary. I shared the situation and he shrugged his shoulders and said hopefully our experience will be better next time. I shared we would not be back. I had my first experience here for work and it was quite wonderful. We arrived at 11:30am and our Chef was Bobby. All the food was brought out and cooked fresh in front of us. It was a party of 7 and Bobby was very mindful and let us know how he would beaming the food. I was impressed by how good it was. I never know what to expect when having hibachi. My food was made with care amd love (you can tell). Bobby interacted with us amd had a great personality. The menu was huge I may add, about 14 pages, which I was not expecting. Shogun Japanese restaurant in San Marcos is a fantastic hibachi restaurant with great food chefs. I ordered the ribeye and scallops with fried rice and veggies for my main course with edamame and chicken karaage for my appetizers. The ribeye came out perfect medium rare (as requested) and the fried rice and veggies and scallops had great flavor. The lighting inside and the wall art of shogun samurai paintings were a great touch to fill in the atmosphere. The main food course was fantastic, with the typical hibachi show they put on with the "beating heart" of the fried rice, the fire volcano of onions, and egg magic tricks with their hat. The chefs were very entertaining and engaging with the guests. The waitresses were also very kind and frequently got us refills on drinks and took our empty plates away quickly. There is plenty of parking with a designated parking lot outside of the restaurant. Bathrooms were also easily accessible and easy to find being within the main seating floor. Whoever's idea it was to mess up the combo plates by giving us potatoes and noodles with BARELY any veggies... HORRIBLE IDEA!! I was so irritated with my dinner tonight, loaded with way too many carbs and unnecessary additions. Fav part about the meal is having all those onions and different flavors of peppers or mushrooms to compliment the dish. NOBODY ASKED YALL TO GIVE US POTATOES AND NOODLES when we are already paying extra for fried rice if you wanna do some nice give us bigger bowls of rice instead. The vibe is always fine, I tried to sit at bachi area for first time in a long time this visit but once I saw how squished the table was elbow to elbow I opted for regular dining table. Staff should consider not packing those Bachi tables so much especially when people are obviously needing more space. read more

We went to celebrate a birthday party, and we were a little disappointed at first. Service was a little slow but they were also busy. The manager Armando went above and out of his way to make things right. He checked in on us a few times and made sure to explain what was going on and apologize for the mishaps. My family and I (three adults and one child) went to Shogun for lunch and had a very pleasant experience! We have lived in the area for about 15 years, but this was our first time at this location. While the venue is a bit dated, the food and kindness of the staff made it a great outing! The pricing for lunch is very reasonable for a relatively healthy meal and show. We got miso soup, chicken teriyaki, crispy tofu, and ribeye that came with steamed rice, mushrooms, zucchini, onions, peppers, and dipping sauces. We also ordered the fried bananas with vanilla ice cream and cherries, which was delicious! Arnel was our chef, and he was great!! He was very interactive with our group, especially our 5 year old daughter. We all enjoyed his handling of the cutlery, jokes, and cooking. We were so lucky to have gotten Arnel because we noticed the chef at another table who seemed so boring and unenthusiastic compared to Arnel! Our daughter said, "Can we come back here for dinner tonight?!" And to top it off, our hostess offered a giant balloon to our daughter on the way out because she had noticed that our daughter was totally into the balloons when we had entered the restaurant. Came here last night and noticed some major changes. I am sure many of these changes are cost cutting measures but they are noticeable. 1) they added noodles to the offering which on the surface seemed like a cool thing but they did not taste good and it was a real detractor to the meal. 2) they also added potatoes and broccoli. Also not that great and it seemed like an odd additional. 3) the steaks were also sliced noticeable thinner. Not deli/carpaccio thin but definitely noticeable. It was to a point that the normally cubed sized beef was now served in thin strips. More like a stir fry. 4) the pricing I think went up as well. We all asked ourselves the question. At this price point would we rather just go to the ayce Brazilian or Korean place. And with all of the comments above answer is yes. Our chef was amazing though read more

I have been looking for a hibachi place for a long time and finally gave Shogun a try. I was able to make a same day reservation which was great ! Location is small and cozy. My reservation was at 730pm and we didn't get served until closer to 8pm. The chef cooked/performed for about 30ish minutes (my daughter absolutely loved him and his carisma). We're frequent diners at SG, specifically for family gatherings for a celebration. Service has been superior during all the visits. We enjoy Saturday or Sunday lunches because it's less crowded creating a relaxing yet enjoyable atmosphere. The food has always been very good, and our family typically gets the combination meals, mainly the various steaks and shrimp variations. We celebrated my niece and nephew's birthdays. Our teppanyaki chef was Angel. He is by far the best preparer and enjoyable chef experienced. Very happy and made everyone laugh. He also displayed new creativity with the food, at least 3. He was the best and deserves recognition not only by us, but the manager of the location. Well done, Angel. You deserve a RAISE!!! read more
