Great beer bar I sought out while in SF on business, not a far walk from Union Square at all. Surprisingly, my other options for legit craft beer one afternoon were slim so I decided to walk the 15 minutes to get here and it was well worth it. They had a lot of great options on tap and even more in cans/bottles in the fridge at the back. Prices were fair, service was great; the nice bearded chat served up the suds promptly and even gave me a free bowl of chips which was a really nice touch, and smart! Gets the customers more thirsty! This place had ALOT of great beers on tap. You could build you own flight or just get a beer of various sizes. It was dog friendly which was fun to see the sweet pups visiting. I dropped by this afternoon to check out their beer selection and it was hella big. They had the freezer section towards the back that had a good selection of sours, dark, and stouts to choose from. They also got some TVs inside that were playing sports if you decided to sit down and and a drink. I was sad when City Beer Store closed down since they have a great beer bottle selection but Liquid Gold is a perfect go-to if you're a beer nerd like me. read more

Liquid Gold is a perfect name for this beer spot. How else can you describe the golden elixir's on tap? If you are a beer person, you will leave this place happy. And I would't say you have to be a certain kind of beer person (that is, ipa, sour, etc.) Different styles are fairly well represented across many excellent local craft breweries. I really like how LG offers a very small pour option for most beers, which allows me to try a lot more without both the cost and getting too toasty. But I believe they also offer growler options, which is super convenient (especially if you're close by, which alas I am not.) Also, they have a pretty big cooler with cans, so if you need more options to bring home you're very covered. Finally, they don't serve food but I have brought snacks, etc. inside (Nourish cafe is just a few doors down, hint hint.) Enjoy a sandwich in a low-key, relaxing joint, with plenty of beer to keep your thirst quenched. read more

When it comes to a craft beer bar, Liquid Gold checks all the boxes for me! I've been coming here for years, and this past weekend was my first time since COVID hit, and it was amazing to enjoy a nice cold sour beer inside! What'll you notice right away is their enormous selection of draft and bottle/canned beer. On draft you'll have at least 20+ options and a lot of them rotate, so coming in everytime is like a new experience! All their beer options on the TVs above the screens and what I love most is that they have clear descriptions and pricing for each one. My go-to if I'm with a group is to go for the flights, because I'm a variety type of guy. My latest trip was the first time I was able to trying an Alvarado street brewing sour beer, and it was easily the best tasting sour I've had ever. I believe it was called the Howitz, which is a passionfruit, orange & guava kettle sour ale. It was so tasty, I had to get two! Another reason I love this place, it's dog friendly! They have tables outside, but they even let me bring my pup inside while I sipped on my beer. If you find yourself on Polk St. this is just a short walk from the main area. Double Howzit Punch from Alvarado street, yes please! What an amazingly balanced 8% POG sour. The Turbo Dust hazy from Bare Bottle, it was smooth and not overly bitter, with a great dry hopped flavor punch. We also tried the Barrel roll #3 from Hanger 24 and it was a little sweet for my taste, but good flavor otherwise. I've been here for sf beer week and love the breweries they manage to showcase. You can choose between 5oz tasters or a full pour. It's across the street from Trader Joe's and while it's not the most spacious, I love how there's a lot of light that comes in from outside and there's an area for a few big groups to chill. For all my San Jose yelpers, Liquid Gold in SF is the equivalent to ISO beers or Market Beer Shop. Found this spot after a morning of hiking. We were looking to kick back and enjoy some beers after eating, and Liquid Gold did just that for us. The parking situation isn't ideal since it's located on a busy big street, so do your best to find street parking nearby on the cross street or a few blocks away...or you can always take public transportation or Lyft! The beer selection is very diverse and expansive. We both went with the tasters because there were too many beers for us to take our picks in pints. There are a bit of everything--barrel-aged, sours, stouts, pilsners, New England ales--you name it they practically had it! Our beertender was going solo that afternoon, but service was still courteous and he got the job done. Thanks good sir. I enjoyed how he was not judgmental about the selection of my beers, and he so graciously allowed me to sample the beers I were unsure about before committing to some tasters. Quality man, thank you! Ambiance has got a cool and relaxed lounge vibe without the loud and trashy music. There's a edgy rocker spirit to Liquid Gold, probably because of the cool overhead gold lamps and the suave bar stools.
