Last year, my now husband and I ventured to I. Gorman after not really finding what we were looking for at other spots. The space is clean and welcoming. Nicole took phenomenal care of us and did a great job showcasing the wide range of rings/options available. My husband and I purchased his wedding band at I. Gorman Jewelers back in 2010 and recently we noticed that a couple of diamonds seemed to be sunken and missing. I called iGorman and Adam Gorman answered, and he found our order and told me to ship the ring to him for repair. Today Adam called me and informed me that he soaked our wedding band in cleaner and was able to restore my husbands wedding band to like new. I will be anxiously awaiting receiving the restored wedding band and will post a photo of it once we receive it. I went in for a ring resizing of a new engagement ring. It wasn't designed or bought at I.Gorman, but I was so impressed with their honest advice and attention during my resizing appointment. Adam Gorman advised me to return the ring to the designer for a new setting rather than potentially damaging the ring by trying to resize it down several sizes. Over many many years and plenty of fluctuations in my income, I.Gorman has never failed me. From simple sapphire earrings to the "perfect bracelet" (according to my wife) of diamonds and gold, I have never failed to find the right thing for the most important person in my life. Recently, they managed to match a pearl earring to replace one that was lost to make my wife's birthday special. And we toasted it with the sparkling wine that comes with every purchase. I had a phenomenal experience engagement ring shopping here. Allison helped my boyfriend and I pick out rings, which is no easy task as I'm dead-set on not having a diamond (or white sapphire, or white stones of any kind) in my ring. She took the time to carefully lay out my options and discuss what could be customized, tried to get inside my brain to get a clear picture of what I want in a ring, and was patient and kind--and thorough in her follow-up. She even made some of the stones blue for me by using a dry-erase on the CZ stones so I could get a better picture of how MY ring would look. Ultimately I think they don't offer enough of a range of the type of stone and ring I'm looking for, but if you want a gorgeous and more traditional ring (although if you aren't anti-diamond they also have a great selection of non-traditional rings, including raw diamonds and some funky bands paired with solitaires) I would highly recommend them. read more

Gorman carries a lot of very unique pieces including some from Gebruder Schaffrath (which served only to fuel my current obsession with German design.) On a recent visit I tried on rings with Jacqueline who is both hip and very knowledgeable. She sent me home with a scan of the ring I liked best and followed up with an email several days later. I visited at least half of the jewelery stores around town for engagement ring inspiration before finding I.Gorman and as soon as I walked in I knew the search was over. 1. I.Gorman is welcoming and unprentious. No appointment is needed and you are always greeted warmly at the door and then matched with a salesperson or given space to browse until you need one. 2. They have a really vast selection. While we were looking for engagment rings they also have a ton of wedding bands (large selection of men's rings which is unique), necklaces, bracelets and other types of rings. 3. The engagement rings are unique. I had found I.Gorman through a Portland based jeweler I came across on instagram. The ring we ended up buying was from a New York-based one. We also looked at a line from Texas. Each style was completely unique and different - lots of gold and rosegold along with the white gold that is so common in most stores. Different color stones beyond just white diamonds. Some super avant-garde and structural looking rings. While we went through the basic C's I learned about different cuts that other jewelers hadn't mentioned or carried, like rosecut. 4. Allison. Our saleswoman really made the process. She instantly got what we were looking for and pulled out several items to match but then allowed us a full two hours browsing everything else on our initial visit. When we thought we might want to make a ring from scratch she ordered a variety of loose stones to examine. She was very communinicative via email updating us about rings we had ordered in from the jeweler to try on. And she met seperately with my fiance so he could get his own insight into the process. We loved working with her! 5. The bourbon bar. You are offered champage while you shop but if that isn't your style, there is a whole cart of top-shelf bourbon to try. The selection rotates and it adds an extra touch of fun to your visit. I could go on and on about all the things I love about I.Gorman, but mostly I love the fact that they helped us find the perfect ring and that they made the whole experience really fun. When I first stepped into iGorman, i had never owned a diamond or any luxurious jewelry. I was wide-eyed and excited as I browsed every type of diamond ring in the store, trying to find my personal style for a potential engagement ring. We stopped in looking at engagement rings and had the most helpful, knowledgeable person wait on us while looking at engagement rings. She was very knowledgeable and exerted no pressure at all. There is a nice inventory of many unique items. We did return and decided to buy the perfect ring with the perfect stone. The price paid was very fair. I also appreciate that this is a family business and not one owned by a multinational corporation. When we bought the ring one of the owners came out and thanked us and we had a nice talk. This was the first stop I made in search for the perfect engagement ring. They have a very nice and classy store. They validate parking across the street. They offer bottled drinks. They treat you like a VIP. It all kinda ended when the lady asked me how much I was looking to spend on the engagement ring. I didn't have a concrete idea, and I just told her the price that I read online as the average price for an engagement ring in the US. That clearly disappointed her and her attitude totally changed from there. It's unfortunate for them because I ended up spending more than that price after going to a few other stores. Their rings are definitely much more expensive than at other stores. You should decide if you want to pay the extra for the VIP treatment and their 100% guarantee policy (no one else gives you that). read more

Putting a damper on the little love fest going on here for I Gorman. Yes, it's elegant, and they sell incredible pieces from top-notch designers. But my honey and I rolled in looking a little haggard - i.e. poor - and I. Gorman himself gave us a litany of lame excuses about why he shouldn't resize my ring, which you'd think he'd happily do since he was asking a steep $150+ to take it up a size and a half. He initially seemed refreshingly frank, telling us that the New England jeweler who sold the ring would resize it for free and that he mails 3,000 pieces a year safely, but we decided while crossing the street to the post office that it wasn't worth the bother of shipping back and forth to save 50 bucks, so we doubled back to the store. When we returned, Mr. I Gorman laid it on SUPER thick about how honored he was we chose to patronize them, and thanked us profusely to the point of insincerity. After that though, he wasted a lot of time talking about nothing, and then abruptly said, "I'm going to open a can of worms now. Do you know what that means?" and proceeded to say that he didn't want to be responsible for damaging the stone during the resizing process. So I gave him a raging stink eye and we walked out. In short, it was overall an uncomfortable and weird experience - enough so that I took the time to write this review. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt and say with confidence that he really did care about preserving the quality of my jewelry, but nothing about the experience inspired confidence or trust. read more

We came to I Gorman to look at a Scholdt semi-bezel (they're the only jeweler that carries them around here). And they certainly have a lot of selection, and they do offer complimentary beverages (coke, diet, champagne, water), and complimentary parking at the Colonial across the street. However, all of these extras (parking, location, advertisements all over the internet, etc) inflate the cost of the settings -- a lot. The prices we saw for the designer settings were the highest anywhere we looked in NYC and DC. There was one that I loved, that really killed me -- because it was 18k yellow gold and $4500 for the setting only (no diamond). Price of gold, yada yada, that was still highway robbery. I found a similar setting via several well-respected goldsmiths in NYC and found that I should be paying at most 1/3 of the price I Gorman quoted us. So when it comes to jewelry shopping, I guess I'm a no-frills kind of person. I want the money I pay to go toward the diamond or jewelry that I'm getting, not toward the merchant's overhead. If not offering me champagne means that I get $500 off the price (and if you think about the cost of a liquor license...), I think I can live without it. read more

They are pros - they know how to treat customers, have an incredible selection of unique jewelry, and are helpful both before and after your purchase. I first got acquainted with I Gorman last December. My husband had just returned from a year in Iraq, and we were prepping for a vow-renewal ceremony in front of our family and friends. We had bought our rings in New York months prior, but wanted them polished ahead of the big day. We called around to several stores and some refused to touch rings that weren't theirs - others wanted to charge handsomely for the privilege. I Gorman told us to come on down. We arrived, they polished the rings, gave us champagne to sip on while we waited, and let us peruse jewelry we couldn't possibly afford. They were genuine, warm and nice. They weren't interested in making a sale - they were interested in treating us well. And that's the reason we came back this year to do Christmas shopping - we attended a designer event they hosted one Saturday and bought me some bling! I really get the feeling that they value building and developing clientele and relationships over time. Are we the couple that can drop 10K on a necklace? Not yet. But rest assured, we'll be buying from I Gorman now and in the future - and when we can afford those "dream pieces," we'll be doing it from them. read more

I can't say that I am an experienced jewelry shopper, but I can say with confidence that all of my future purchases will be from I Gorman Jewelers. My parents have made purchases from there before and now I have made two purchases as well. First: 2 years ago I brought in two pearls and had earring posts added. It was very reasonable, professional and the customer service was impeccable. I honestly can not remember who assisted in my purchase, but based on the other reviews and my experience in the store, everyone there is amazing. Second: This time was a bit more special. I was bringing in a stone to have placed into an engagement ring setting. I called ahead and made an appointment with Ivan Gorman, who has dealt with my parents a number of times. Ivan was extremely friendly from start to finish. He offered to let me park in the office building across the street to avoid dreaded street parking. When I came in, I was offered a drink and then Ivan immediately began to ask me questions in order to determine what ring would be the best fit. Being inexperienced in this field, Ivan did everything he could to assist me. After narrowing it down to the finalists, I made a decision and it turned out to be a great choice. While I don't have means to compare prices, I feel as though their settings, rings and other items are very reasonably priced and their designers are some of the best around. I felt very well taken care of and know that I not only made the right decision as to what to purchase, but where I made the purchase. The stone off and about 3 weeks later the ring was completed and ready to pick up. Everything they sell is fully guaranteed and should you require a resizing or anything, even to pick out a new ring should you not be 100% satisfied, they'll do it. In conclusion, I Gorman Jewlers provided the most professional and easy experiences. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for any type of jewelry. read more

I went to I. Gorman last week to find an engagement ring for my soon-to-be fiance. I have to say that I am not the easiest customer to work with - I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for, but had some very general ideas. Kate spent lots of time with me, made several phone calls to designers and got faxes of a couple of rings sent to the store - she was fantastic. While waiting to get all of the paperwork done, Ivan Gorman and his son Adam came over at separate times to meet me and thank me for the business. When the ring arrived on Friday, the store was having a trunk show, and I had the chance to meet Alishan, the designer of the ring, and his wife. All in all, the service was outstanding. Amazing service, lovely staff, great jewelry! When I got engaged, I was really reluctant to get a ring. I'm just not much of a ring person, and on top of that I don't wear diamonds, and I don't like raised settings (too many reasons to name). So yeah, you could say I was picky. We went to several stores in the DC and Baltimore areas and all of them reacted badly to my no-diamond, no raised setting requests. One went so far to tell me that a ring like that was a wedding band not an engagement ring, as if the ring makes the definition, not the occasion. Anyway, a friend told me about iGorman, and off I went not expecting much. But the minute I walked in the door (and by the way it took me 6 months and several visits) I was treated with respect and dignity. Our budget was tiny compared to most ring shoppers, and yet I never felt as if I were being treated as an inferior customer. Not only did they not scoff at my requests, they worked triple time to help me find a ring that I LOVE! To be honest, I was a bit terrified to go engagement ring shopping. And not because of the whole life commitment thing. Unlike a lot of women, I knew nothing about what kind of ring I wanted. Nothing. My fears were quickly displaced when we came to I Gorman. They were extremely helpful and asked me questions about my personal style before even suggesting some rings. They gave us a quick primer about diamonds and cuts which I of course can't remember now but found enlightening at the time. Although buying a ring can be a stressful situation (maybe more so for the purchaser), we never felt pressured and they worked within our price range. When I had narrowed down my choices to three rings, they gave me their honest answer on what looked best on my semi chubby fingers even though it wasn't the most expensive option. This family-owned business is a class act that will have my undying loyalty until the end. My partner and I were a little apprehensive about ring-shopping since we're just across the river from the reddest state (not so much anymore, though.. bye bye George Allen!) I digress, I'd seen a lot of their ads with very unique pieces and wanted to visit. There is nothing in this store that you'll find in some cheesy mall chain, nor is there anyone there to make you feel pressured or scammed. Adam Gorman (the original owner's grandson) was SO patient and helpful when selecting our gorgeous, unique rings. I can't say enough about how comfortable they made us feel, especially since I'm no diamond expert and it's a pretty big investment. When our rings were ready he gave us both a bottle of champagne and a card. I've since recommended I Gorman to many friends who are just as pleased with their experience. The prices are very fair and every item is unique, from rings, watched, necklaces, you name it. They often have events with prominent jewelry designers in-house. P.S. I hate to do this, but I'm changing my rating to 3 stars/A-OK. I'm still a fan, but am just not feeling that magic anymore. A big part of it is that I think my old SA left, as she hasn't been in during my last few visits. The service isn't terrible by any stretch, of course, but I've left each recent visit vaguely and increasingly dissatisfied. Staff aren't as quick to offer to dip my rings in the ultrasonic and the newer SAs seem to be quite young and less experienced. An SA tried to tell me that the thinning/stretching effect I was seeing on the shank after resizing must be due to normal wear. Sorry, but platinum cannot thin noticeably as white gold does, particularly in less than 2 years of wear! I'm guessing that they actually resized my ring by shaving a bit off the inside. I was also a bit weirded out on my last visit, when the young SA helping me repeatedly plonked some delicate pave and gemstone pieces (including my own $2,000 necklace that I handed over for safekeeping, argh) on the countertops without getting out a mat or tray. Still, I do like that I. Gorman continues to bring in interesting designers. I think they just recently added Gurhan (yummy high-karat gold!) and Gellner (some cool pearl pieces). On my last visit, I noticed they also have some pieces from less expensive lines, such as Gabriel & Co. and Margoni, and had cleared away some more expensive (but oh-so-lovely!) Atelier Munsteiner cuffs, so perhaps they are working on broadening their appeal? Which is fine.... but I still want the old-world service! Maybe I'm the only one. read more

Totally forgot to mention in my review. . . They offer free parking at the garage across the street. Simply pull in and tell the garage people you're going to I. Gorman. Even if the garage is full, they'll get you in. Make sure to have your parking validated at the store. I've done this a few times, and found it easier than walking from the metro. read more

After reading through multiple reviews of multiple jewelry stores, this is the place where fiance and I decided to check out for wedding bans. Their website showed some unconventional, unique pieces, and we were looking for something different, something fresh. First, if you drive there, they have a parking garage. We called up on Saturday before we went and even though the garage was closed, they told us to call them as we got near so someone could come open up the garage for us. Very nice. Makes you feel like a VIP. You step into the store, and they got the funky circles overlapping in bright colors carpet. Cute. And champagne, water, and soft drinks ready for you. Would you like that water in a glass with ice ma'am? The best was we got set up with Adam, the son in the family business. He was obviously very passionate about his work, which I'm envious. He was very astute in observing our dress and accessories and had a keen sense of what personalities he was dealing with, which makes him a good salesman. That being said, he never pushed anything on us, but instead showed us a bunch of rings, whether we could afford or not, because he saw we were really into the designs and different textures and his enthusiasm just bubbled over. The best was that we found the PERFECT rings we want after explaining to him that we were avid rockclimbers. Couldn't make me any happier. Overall, a SUPER PLEASANT experience, and on my anniversaries or big dates that call for jewelry (not that I'm a big jewelry person), I know I'll have my soon to be hubby go here. Make sure you ask for Adam, he's the best (well what do I know, I've only be there once). Take jewelry shopping to a human level with no snootiness whatsoever. read more

Went to Gorman 's Ultimate Ring Event earlier today with my fiancé. After a harrowing experience at Jared's, this place was a breath of fresh air. I loved Kalee, who was representing "Sholdt" designs from Seattle. She seemed genuine, honest, friendly. She wasn't pushy, she wasn't fake and she just got what I wanted. She made the process fun. There were a few other designers from LA and Dallas. All those reps were nice and helpful. Everyone seemed to dress and act like themselves. It wasn't a bunch of stuffy drones in a salesman suit who care more about their bottom line than your individual engagement experience. I only gave a 4 because I am not sure if I am going to get my ring there or not. I put a lot of rings on my finger and liked a lot of them but I didn't have a "this is the one" moment. I also think I could get something very similar to my favorite ring of the day somewhere else a bit cheaper. After all, this is downtown DC. But this place is a great place to start looking for sure. i needed an engagement ring consultation and found i. gorman through research. i wanted a smaller business, and i. gorman was the only smaller jeweler in DC with rings i really loved on their website. i saw that they had glowing reviews on yelp & booked an appt with my best friend for 2p on a saturday. first, they were taking covid really seriously -- it's appointment-only, there were very few people indoors, there was plentiful sanitizer, and everyone was masked. after browsing for a few minutes (they have a pretty big selection with a lot of unique pieces), nicole gorman came over to get started with our appt. i knew NOTHING about what kind of ring i wanted and had been pretty overwhelmed after browsing online for days, but nicole was SO friendly and SO helpful and somehow knew just what i wanted -- the first 2 rings she pulled out after i gave her a quick description of my only criteria were the 2 rings i'd bookmarked from their website!! she was also incredibly knowledgeable about all the diamonds -- luckily my best friend was more prepared than i was and knew to ask about maintenance etc., and nicole had answers for everything. there was no pressure the whole time, and nicole brought out about 8 or 9 rings and helped us narrow it down to 3 top contenders. she also took down my best friend's info and told us that she'd be communicating with my best friend about the top 3 rings so that my best friend could relay all the info to my boyfriend, which was something i hadn't thought of but is such a cool touch because now the pressure is off of me, and the ring i'll end up getting will still be a surprise! we left feeling really happy about the selection, the customer service, and how obviously passionate nicole was about all of the rings. the prices also all seemed very fair, especially due to nicole's knowledge of the history of each diamond!!! i'm sure my boyfriend will have just as good of an experience as i did when he bites the bullet :) read more

Gelin Abaci did not make the ring to the correct setting and the diamond kept scratching my finger. This is the best jeweler in DC if not the east coast. I have bought many, many items from them and the service and care have been outstanding. More importantly we went to get our wedding rings made here. I was able to bring in my mothers wedding ring and give them an overall design of what I wanted to incorporate with new stones on a napkin! The care and love of working with us on making my ring a combination of new and old stones was amazing. We went back for several fittings/consultations, picked out the stones that I preferred while the whole time feeling like I was getting a realistic idea on costs. They kept me updated and really wanted it to be perfect for me. Such care and honesty is hard to find. At the end of the day my happiness with the end product was paramount. After waiting for the results it was finally ready. They brought us in and unveiled the finished product with tons of fanfare. Being so hands on they really understood my goals. When I saw it for the first time it brought tears to my eyes. Seeing my moms ring and mine together was so special. I shopped at I Gorman for an engagement ring and now there is no place I would rather buy jewelry. From the moment I walked into the store, the staff was attentive, helpful and very patient in answering all my random questions about rings and diamonds. I was helped by Nicole, who is the daughter of store's owner, and she said that the store is family-run, which is a big plus for me. Nicole asked me questions to determine which styles I'd be interested in and she began showing me different choices. The selection of rings styles is a sight to behold. If you want a unique design, this is the place to go. I really liked the rings by Alishan that featured intricate and textured design. One of the most important aspects of my shopping experience was the lack of pressure to buy something now. Nicole understood that buying an engagement ring is not an easy decision and we looked at the prices for for different combinations in order to give me a better sense of what the overall costs would be. I also liked that the staff printed photos of the rings for me so that I could look back at them and remember which styles I preferred. After shopping there, I went to other jewelry stores in DC and Virginia, but I couldn't find the same level of customer service or knowledge about their products. I knew I just had to get the engagement ring from I Gorman. After buying the ring, the owner of the store personally thanked me and said that they were honored that I would trust them with such an important purchase. I was blown away by that because most purchases are from nameless salespeople, but from start to finish, my experience with I Gorman has been all about that personal touch. After getting engaged, my fiancee contacted Adam Gorman for pictures of the ring and he responded immediately with a nice personal message and the pictures. I Gorman is by far the best jewelry shop in DC. Sure, they've got a great selection of classic and contemporary pieces. Sure they work directly with the artists, even so far as to bring them in for trunk shows. Sure their pieces range from the affordable to the painfully not affordable. But, what really places them head and shoulders above their competitors is not the above though, it's the quality and friendliness of the staff. Visited this store to check out their engagement ring selection and couldn't have felt more welcomed! I. Gorman is family owned and they make you feel so relaxed and at home. Adam was so incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and unpretentious (which unfortunately is very uncommon at many other stores in the area). Bonus points for having a strict COVID protocol in place. This is the first review I've ever written on yelp, but I felt like I had to share our wonderful experience with I Gorman. Bonnie Gorman, one of the owners of this family-owned jewelery store was the absolute perfect person to help my boyfriend (now fiance!) and I pick out an engagement ring. There was no pressure, tons of rings to choose from, a beautiful and welcoming environment, and best of all...a helpful and fun expert guide to lead us through the process! We went the first time and we landed on a particular ring, but Bonnie told us to think it over. We did, and then came back a second time - where we decided on the perfect one for us. Bonnie had the jeweler make a unique setting for the band we chose that he doesn't normally do (an east-west oval), and it is absolutely stunning. She also walked us through picking themain stone by showing us three oval diamonds of varying size and cut/color/clarity. She asked us to pick the one we thought stood out the most, and we really thought it was the middle diamond. She completely agreed even though it was a few thousand dollars less than the bigger stone, and was so warm and friendly throughout. I can't speak too much about the purchase/pick up process, but my fiance has said that he felt comfortable the entire time and everything was smooth and easy. If you want to go ring shopping somewhere that will actually make it fun instead of stressful, and feel like you are getting the best for your money with great customer service... you can't go wrong with I Gorman.
