I took an Elgin antique (circa. 1900) pocket watch to him because I dropped it and it stopped ticking. Sam got it running and he did not charge me for the service. It stopped ticking again so I bought some extra parts and brought it to him for repairs. It will take about 3 months. While there I spotted a beautiful Sapphire estate ring. It was soon to be my wife's birthday so I bought it. Eva wrapped it up very nicely for me. My wife LOVES the ring. I was impressed with the excellent customer service Sam and Eva provided. My fiancee took my engagement ring to Afram Jewelers to get it fixed up. Some background: This ring was my great grandmother's ring, and had been on my grandmother's hand for the past 20 years. It's seen and been through WW2 and all sorts of other drama so it was in pretty bad shape. But Afram Jewelers were able to fix it and shine it up like as if it was brand new! This jeweler is a complete rip-off. We took an antique watch to be evaluated to see if it needed repair. They estimated $250 to work on the watch. we took it to another place in Bethesda for a second quote....there is nothing wrong with the watch AT ALL. They are scammers!!! In addition, my husband bought a bracelet from them for $1,600. it didn't fit. NO REFUNDS only exchanges. Most of the other pieces looked like they had been there since 1982...and, so ugly!! The only other piece I could stomach was supposedly a Tahitian Pearl but it was damaged. The bracelet was appraised by our regular jeweler at about $350. What a waste of money!!! Do not buy anything or get repairs done at this jeweler. They will rip you off! read more

Sam brought my beloved Rolex back to life!!! The watch was a gift to myself with my first big raise at my first "real job", and it has been on my wrist day after day, year after year, and all over the world (if only the watch could talk). I've treated it well, had it serviced, kept it clean and loved it dearly... and then one day in March, I made a tragic mistake: I took it off in the bathroom, and when I went to put it back on, guess what dropped on the tile floor, landing right on the crystal? I was so stunned I couldn't even yell, mumble or cry. Instead, I just stared at it and then gingerly picked it up, only to find that the crystal was shattered - with little pieces of it scattered around - and time had stopped. Literally. It was a rainy Sunday, I was in a panic because jewelers were closed and I had no idea where to bring it (my most recent jeweler in Boston closed a while back). I Googled, Googled again, searched on Yelp and kept coming back to Afram. I called the next day, spoke to Sam and explained what happened and begged for help. I brought it in, Sam took a look and explained what it needed. Well, it was getting cleaned for sure, as well as a new crystal and a new internal part or two because tile floors are definitely the enemy of watches. I received updates along the way, and knew it would take a while (this is not a $40 Timex, and who would want their repair and/or service to be rushed??), and when I picked it up this morning, I could not have been more excited. The price was less than I expected - and it had A LOT of work done - and it is back on my wrist so I can know what time it is for the first time in a while. Save yourself all of the calling around to various jewelers, do NOT send your watch away to one of those places that advertises online, just get yourself down to Afram Jewelers. I followed them over to H St because they are one of the best, nicest, skilled, knowledgeable, professional jewelers I have ever used. Afram's repaired my grandmother's pearl ring I inherited from her. A few of the small pearls kept falling off. Another jeweler had repaired them but the repair didn't last. Afram's repair has not only lasted, but in addition they gave me helpful guidance about not getting the ring wet so that the pearls would stay on. Great customer service. Beautiful jewelry. Fair prices. I reached out by email due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. (Store is currently closed, like most DC businesses, but hopefully opening soon.) Quickly heard from Miriam. After a little back and forth she had found the perfect diamond pendant necklace for my wife's birthday. They were able to get it out to us and delivered in less than a day. My gorgeous Kate Spade watch slipped out of my hands and fell face down on my bathroom floor and shattered. Shards of glass were moving around inside the watch but it was still ticking. A quick search online confirmed that I needed the 'crystal' replaced. womp womp Ok...so I hate errands. And this was an added errand that I 1.had no experience with and 2. was sure that I was going to get financially screwed over. With that assumption I picked the closest watch repair store, because if I'm going to get screwed I may as well make it convenient. After work that day I rushed to drop my watch off for repair, but parking around the store was impossible. After 10 minutes of looking for a spot, I called the store asking where they recommend I park. The woman working said, 'oh I'll come out to your car and get your watch, don't worry.' That's crazy right? This is small town service, in the center of the city! She came outside with a tag, looked at watch, took down my information and I drove off. A few days later (they didn't have the matching part so they had to order it) I got the call that my watch was ready. I went in for pick up and it was like brand new! I was charged $55 dollars and they even replaced my battery for no additional charge. I adore this business. I felt taken care of the entire time and after this experience, I trust them. Which for me with jewelers is rare. If you need a watch repaired, this is the place to go! read more

After reading several Yelp reviews and also being aided by proximity to my office, I decided to bring my suddenly dead watch here for repair. I had just gotten the battery replaced in the fall, so it seemed odd for it to be a dead battery again. This is not a super high end watch, but it did cost a couple hundred dollars, and I wanted to be sure it was cared for. I walked in and was immediately greeted. As I was in a hurry, I quickly explained the situation and dropped off my watch with a female with an accent (I don't remember her name, unfortunately). She complimented me on my "beautiful" watch and seemed very kind. She said she could have it ready to next day and asked if I wanted the watch "polished up like new" for $25-$30. I agreed as I was in a rush (though, in hindsight, this does seem rather pricey) and left. I got a call next day saying that they had opened the watch, and it wasn't the battery. The same woman explained that the internal mechanisms were broken and would need to be entirely replaced. I stopped by, again, after work that day, and someone working on repairs in the back further explained it wasn't the battery and some other technical-sounding stuff I don't quite remember. The sales woman from the day before explained it would cost $100-$150 to replace, and they could do it there. As my watch is only just over 3 years old, I was surprised and expressed disappointment at both the cost for repair and the necessity. Due to how quickly it had "broke," I told them I would reach out to the manufacturer first and see if it was covered under warranty. If not, I promised I would bring it back to this jeweler. I also had mentioned in passing that I was also disappointed as I was leaving on vacation the next day and hoped to have my watch repaired before then. The sales lady then aggressively began to try to sell me a new watch so I would "have a watch for vacation." After speaking with my mom (who had bought me the watch), we decided to bring it to a trusted jeweler back in my hometown that our family has used for years. It turns out that it WAS only the battery, and my hometown jeweler replaced it at no cost. I am wearing the watch right now, and it is working just fine. I'd like to think that a jeweler this highly regarded was not trying to scam me into a repair that was not needed, but it would be equally concerning if they could not tell the difference between a dead battery and needing essentially an entire overall. Needless to say, I will not be recommending this place for watch repair. Maybe they are better with jewelry. Oh, and my hometown jeweler returned the watch clearly buffed and shined at no cost. It seems loyalty is worth the price elsewhere. TL;DR: This jeweler seems to have tried to scam me into a $100-$150 repair for my watch when all it needed was a new battery. An aggressive sales pitch to buy a new watch and a $30 watch polish came along with this disappointing service. read more

Great experience overall. I received very friendly, sincere service. Had the crystal and batteries replaced on two watches, the total cost was very reasonable. So yes, I am definitely a fan; however, with one caveat... The woman I worked with (who was such a sweetheart) gave me her suggestion of the servicing needed, and I agreed. I was given a claim ticket, but no price. She told me she'd call, and I took this to mean she'd call with an estimate. I hadn't heard anything in two days, so I called. Turns out the watches were already worked-on. Luckily the price was right... had the numbers not been good, it could have been an ugly situation. Another reviewer mentioned communication there isn't the greatest, I would have to agree with this. As a customer, I didn't appreciate not having the opportunity to consent to the cost prior to service being performed. At any rate, this wasn't a deal-breaker for me and I will certainly continue to patronize and refer Afram. I had a wonderful experience recently when I brought my engagement ring to Afram in need of small repairs and a resize. I worked with Eva and she immediately put me at ease with her attitude of warmth, competence, and professionalism. She evaluated the ring with a trained eye, made helpful suggestions, and clearly communicated about the repairs that needed to be made and how the team would carry them out. The ring needed a resize down a quarter size, the center stone needed to be reset, and a diamond pave stone was replaced. This work took about a week, and I got a call from Eva after a few days with an update about the ring. The total cost was $175, which I feel was very fair for the quality of customer service and workmanship. Again I am very pleased with my experience at Afram. I will be returning for all my jewelry needs as well as recommending the shop to all my friends :-D read more

I was thinking about selling my Omega Seamaster that I bought used after a year of ownership. It would never tell the right time and I was getting annoyed at the watch. I knew when I bought it that it had some problems and probably needed servicing but didn't really want to invest the $600-$800 it would cost to have it sent back to Omega and take 6 months. I brought it to Sam and he said he could overhaul the movement clean everything up and replace the Chrono hands and Wow what a difference!! It now tells perfect time looks brand new and he was able to do everything a couple hundred cheaper and quicker than sending it away. Sam was great to work with and very knowledgeable and upfront about everything. Thank You Sam the watch is great now and I will probably be keeping it for a long time now. read more

Only goes to watch repair: Nice people, but terrible communication, oversell of in-house abilities, never fixed my watch (well, did replace the face, but incorrectly with an entirely different face [different color, different size and font of numerals] & completely covering up the date window) after 9 months. I knew that the face being replaced was a risk should the re-attachment process burn the original, and I agreed to that, but I know I asked if the face would look the same and was told it would. I assumed (my bad) that they would have access to or order a replacement identical face instead of sending it elsewhere and having them slap on a totally different face. I could have had a damn baby and trained it to follow me around & tell me the time over that period. Also discovered that the work I thought was being done in-house by the man I'd grilled about his experience and training had been sent out somewhere to be done by someone else - "the people that do that for us" was all I ever got. They didn't charge me or give me grief about trying to charge me, which I'd been prepared for, but I'd think twice before entrusting a watch of any value to them for repair. The watch is now safely back in Germany with its maker being repaired from their fix for $400. read more

I can't help but finally write a poor review on this jeweler, but it's finally time. A few years ago, I took my grandmother's ring to this jeweler (one I had received after she passed) and only wanted 3 small diamonds replaced. They cut the top off of the ring, decided they couldn't fix it and put the diamonds in a round setting and just molded it on the obviously square base. My grandmother's ring was ruined. I was so upset I could barely deal with it. I took the ring back in and asked them to try to fix it. They admitted it needed to be fixed and took it back. They returned it to me several times, still a complete mess and tried to sell me new jewelry every time I came in there upset. They had my ring for a year total and when I concluded that it was still a mess and could I have a refund and return the diamonds they had replaced, they refused. Now, after a long time of not being able to fix it, I've finally decided to go to another wonderful jeweler (who made my engagement ring) and they looked at the ring. The prongs have started to pull back and scratch my skin and they looked at the diamonds Afram had replaced. One of them was chipped. No wonder they didn't want to give me a refund. They gave me a chipped diamond and covered it up with the prongs. The jeweler I am now going to is going to repair it. Maybe not to its original state but according to him, "better than what it is right now." I could never recommend this jeweler to anyone, often warn people against them and really wish I had reported their company. I was honestly just too upset to say anything until now. read more

I found Afram by chance because it's a few blocks from work. I'm so glad I did! I brought in my watch with a broken strap, hoping for a quick fix. Sam and his wife were welcoming from the moment I walked in, and explained all of my options (including the pros and cons of replacing the whole strap, without trying to upsell me at all). They are clearly knowledgeable about watches. They ended up special ordering a strap for me and it was ready the next day. I was happily surprised with the price, which was very reasonable. Wonderful experience with Sam and the rest of the staff. Got my Omega Speedmaster tuned up with Sam a year and a half ago and then began having problems with it recently. Brought it in to be looked at by Sam and he was able to quickly diagnose the issue and resolve it quickly. The service is wonderful and they kept me informed of what was going on with the repair. My husband has bought watches from Afram and we always take our watches for maintenance. It is a family business and you are always greeted warmly. Work with Eva and she will always remember your name. They have a collection of "Pandora" jewerly which is fun and versitale (sp?). The collection of vintage jewerly is lovely. There are pieces that range from sparkly and large diamond earring, to pretty pendants. For battery changes, state that you want to have the time and date set. I know that sounds odd, but the last time we took our watches in the date and time wasn't set. The price was too good to take them back and ask that they be set. read more

I learned about Afram when I needed 50 small, delicate and relatively valuable party favors engraved in less than a week. After calling about 10 places - none of which had engraving services - another jeweler recommended Afram (a great sign right off the bat), so off I went. They said the timeline was tight (and it was!), but they could do it. And their price was roughly half of what Things Remembered quoted for engraving services. The end results were gorgeous. I'm so glad I found them (and avoided the mall!). As a side note, when I was in picking up the favors, I saw a ring I liked, and Burt (an adorably friendly veteran salesman) asked me for my husband's phone number.
