This review is a year overdue (you can see below why I procastinated on this review), but I want to make sure that Promise Wedding Studio gets the 5-star recognition that they deserve for outstanding and exceptional service, workmanship, and talent. The team went above and beyond, even as far as doing mulitiple back flips, to make sure that I'm a satisfied client. Last year, I really wanted a Taiwan-style photo shoot (though I'm nowhere close to engagement or marriage) without making an overseas trip. After seeing my friend's engagement pictures and liking the way they turned out, I contacted Promise Wedding Studio for pricing on a personal portrait session. There are no outstanding photo studios in the Bay Area so I was willing to travel to SoCal just for a photo shoot. David promptly called me with information on the various packages, and we set an appointment for the end of 2010, confirmed after receipt of my deposit check. Package selected: * magazine-style album (way better than standard split-page album) * digital copy of 40 poses (digital is the way to go) * no prints (don't need to pass out my glamour shots) Since I hadn't taken professional studio pics before and probably wouldn't for a while, I decided to splurge and get one of the premium packages with the magazine-style album. If you decide to get an album, do yourself a favor and upgrade to the magazine-style album, which eliminates the center gap of a standard album with seamless page layouts and just looks much more professional and presentable. If you're paying good money for a photo shoot, you might as well opt for an album that you are proud of displaying. Outfits: * 7-8 total or however many outfit changes that would fit into the full-day session. I brought about seven of my own outfits and chose one gown from their collection. Their gown collection is extensive with different styles in different colors, all catalogued in an album for reference. Giant clothes pins make the gowns appear to fit and are undetectable in photos. Photographers (2): David - traditional & universally flattering poses (more suitable for me) Shinling - contemporary, fun, & mood-specific poses (would be great if I knew how to be sexy, haha) Makeup Artist & Stylist (1): Brenda - in-house and extremely talented, customizes your look to range from low-key to glamorous (I went for glamorous) Approximate Agenda: * 10:00am makeup & hair (usually an hour for female, but mine ran overtime) * 11:00am photo shoot begins; makeup & hair adjustments between outfits * 1:30pm half-hour lunch break, food provided (McDonald's located across the street) * 2:00pm photo shoot resumes; makeup & hair adjustments between outfits * 5:00pm photo shoot concludes; choose designated number of poses Graphics & Layout: Shinling can do just about anything with her Photoshop skills, from minor touch-ups to major revamping. I went for a happy medium to smooth imperfections without noticeably changing my appearance. Of course I could've asked for slimming, but I don't want to look back at my album years from now and not recognize myself. She was quick in providing me with album layouts via email and flexible in making changes. I was extremely nitpicky with the layouts and each minor detail, but Shinling met every single request I had. Our email and phone conversations were always pleasant even when I was less than pleasant. Turnaround Time: Overall response and turnaround time exceeded my expecations. I've only read horror stories about other studios with post-shoot wait times of several months up to a year, unretouched photos, unfinished albums, etc. Promise Wedding Studio fulfilled each deadline ahead of schedule. After several revisions and my final approval on the layouts, Shinling notified me only three weeks later that my album and digital proofs were ready for pick-up. From photo shoot to album pick-up, the entire experience took less than seven weeks...that's less than two months! "Promise & Deliver" should be their motto. I just got my album and absolutely love the photos! They did a great job editing. David was great, him and Shin Lin (super cute) cracks me up. They are sorta shy at first but will open up if you make an effort to get to know them. David always gives us tea when we go there. The price is fair very fair compared to most places. I feel like they have the best service. We didn't think we'd get our photos so soon but it turns out we got it 3 weeks before the due date. :-) There are many other wedding studios in that area but I'm not sure about them. The Sheraton looks like they would take nice photos but they are hella expensive for their quality. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable. read more

I had my family portraits taken by I Promise Studio! They came to my house and did a great job. They were very patient and prices were fair. After the shoot, instead of giving me actual pictures, they gave me all digital files of the entire shoot (after they color changed/photoshopped the pictures). This made printing out pictures very affordable for my family. I was referred to I Promise Studio by my friend who took their engagement photos and then liked the job I Promise Studio did that they also booked them for their wedding day photos. We were very lucky to have Kevin as our photographer for our wedding registration and civil ceremony. He was so professional and we felt completely stress free because he would tell us where to stand, how to pose, and where to look at. He also checked all surroundings and made sure he took a shot of all the angles. We felt the entire experience was so wonderful and even my mom kept praising him for knowing exactly what to do. He would keep reminding us that he needs to take multiple shots so we have enough to pick from. (That's exactly what girls want!) Even more, he is very sincere and honest. When looking for a good photographer in the San Gabriel Valley, I came across I Promise Studio and decided to give it a shot. Now as a repeat client, there's a few reasons why I wouldn't turn to or trust anyone else now that I've finally found a dependable and trustworthy studio: First off, ShiLing is a VISIONARY. Now, I'm the type of guy who doesn't have photogenic genes...nor the artsy side needed for a good shoot. I get awkward when people point cameras at me and I don't like conventional hands-folded-in-lap shoots so she suggested I do a "creative" shoot. David helped break the ice by giving me posture tips and Jamie even was nice enough to give me some wine to loosen up...and guess what? I ended becoming the water-splash guy as seen in their album! Never would I have thought that someone as awkward as I would be able to accomplish such a feat...they really work to cater to your personal needs and are truly unique in making the best of any situation. My second visit was for my business--I needed a new environment shot with my products so I could flash sell them online. I stumbled upon Promise Wedding Studio online a long time ago. Mind you, I am not a Californian, so when I went to LA for a friend's wedding, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to take engagement photos. I called Promise Wedding only a week before I was to fly out to LA crossing my fingers that they had a slot open. They worked with me and even offered to ask their other clients to change their appointments (I did not take that offer, because that would be too much). Anyway, they ended up agreeing to open up early on a Monday morning for us to come in for a photo shoot and be finished in time to catch our flight home. We got lost driving there from downtown LA and I felt so bad the staff was waiting for us. I kept calling but I guess I had the back office's number and no one heard the phone? The makeup artist/hair stylist Charlie is very experienced and did a great job on all 4 looks! She was great at matching accessories to the gowns I picked to attain a certain "look". I wore 2 wedding gowns, 1 evening gown, and 1 qipao. The photographer and her assistant were good too. They are very precise in how they pose you but the end result is stunning. By the time we were done shooting, they brought us In-N-Out Burger for lunch and after that, the photos were ready to proof on screen. We quickly made our selections and the album and canvas and other photos were shipped to us in 3 months. read more

I was introduced to I Promise by my friend, who was extremely pleased with the family portraits that they did for her some years ago. I was looking for a photographer for my pre-wedding shoot and after trekking up and down Las Tunas, corresponding with several photographers and scouring the internet for what SoCal has to offer, I finally decided on I Promise as: 1. They are really great value 2. I love their photography style! I was so happy with my session with them that I booked a SECOND session with them! Yup that's right, once was not enough for me! I love my photos and everyone I showed them to agreed that I Promise did a good job. Shinling and David really know their stuff and every photo that they took, ended up being a good photo for me and my husband. This, compared to other photographers that I know of, that have to take at least 10 photos for 1 great shot! Now the informational stuff: -I Promise is now run out of an office space in the same plaza as Din Tai Fung and they don't do studio photography anymore. -there's a selection of gowns and tuxedos which you can borrow as part of your pre-wedding photography package and for brides-to-be, sizes tend to run from 2-6/8. You can also choose to bring your own wedding gown for photography should you desire. -they work with a make-up artist, Nicole Chen for their pre-wedding photoshoot. I'm happy with the makeup that Nicole did for me, but be sure to bring pictures if you have a specific look in mind. -you get digital copies of ALL your pictures at the end, which will be colour-corrected. -you can choose to have a selection of your pictures made into a photo album, but I did not and I Promise does not hard-sell. I wish I can give them another star for this, because, man, some of the photography studios along Las Tunas are so adamant that you get an album with their photography packages. -Shinling and David are great to work with, really. OMG, this review is long over due... But I'm one to keep my promises, and Kevin, you absolutely deserve this 5-star rating!!! Several years ago, my siblings and I wanted to give our mom a meaningful gift for her 70th birthday. She almost died earlier from renal failure and was saved with a kidney transplant from an anonymous donor, so we had several reasons to celebrate. We had never had a professional family portrait done with all three generations (including grandkids), so I searched everywhere for the "right" Asian studio, as most American studios do not know how to capture our ethnic beauty well. Most of the studios I visited were just wedding picture factories and did not really offer any creative packages for family photos. But Kevin was phenomenal--he was so talented with the camera that he managed to capture all 7 of us looking good in almost all the shots! And he had such clever backgrounds for the shots, not just different colored drapes, so the pictures came out amazing. In his warehouse, we felt like we were fashion models at an NYC professional shoot. The best part of it all was Kevin's skill at the post-production side of things. He had the patience of a saint when it came to dealing with my OCD list of "small corrections" that I wanted fixed on the final shots. He did several rounds of revisions without a complaint, and the final copies were PERFECT. Kudos to Kevin for being the BEST of the best. My fiance and I took our engagement pictures at Promise wedding studio. The staff is really talented. David and Shin Lin work really well together. Their gown selection is very modern (compared to the other ones on Las Tunas). My makeup artist Ivy did an awesome job on hair and makeup. We were promptly contacted to pick our pictures, approve the designs, and finally pick up our albums. They are super responsible and reliable which is really important for a business. The fact they care about customer service and satisfaction makes them the leader in their business over the competitors on that street. Quality counts! I was doing my walking of all of Las Tunas Drive had to offer when it comes to any wedding related shops. My main goal walking into Promise Wedding was to find a white sequin Qi Pao with a red dragon/phoenix in a size 8. They had a few traditional looking Qi Pao and a few sequin Qi Pao dresses. The biggest size they had was a size 6. They can't be altered, so I was out of luck. Qi Pao rental was quoted at $100. Many white wedding dresses for purchase and rent. read more

I have used their service for everything from my professional portrait to anniversary parties. love the service and the quality of work they offer. we did our law firm's one year anniversary recently and the pictures turned out superb. I also recommended my sister to hire them to shoot my niece's birthday party. What i love about their service is that they release all of the images to the client. BEST. ENGAGEMENT/WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS. EVER. My wife and I had originally planned to fly to Taiwan last Spring to take our engagement photos b/c we liked the Taiwanese-style photo shoots with multiple costume changes and shooting locations, but in the end decided that it was too cost-prohibitive. My wife looked at various Taiwanese photography studios throughout Las Tunas and found I Promise Studio on Yelp. I Promise Studio offered a package deal in which they would do both Engagement photos and Wedding Day photos, so we took a chance. For the Engagment photo session, they had us pick 3-4 locations and 3-4 costume changes. They initially suggested the Hotel Del Coronado where we were getting married but we opted for locations in LA since they would be at the Hotel Del for our wedding day anyway. We ended up choosing Disney Concert Hall in Downtown LA, Lampposts at LACMA, and Point Dume in Malibu. We showed up bright and early on our day off and they had a professional make-up artist do our make-up. We brought some casual clothes and then they let us borrow a tux, a wedding dress, a Jet Li style Chinese man's shirt, a qi pao (or cheongsam) Chinese dress, and an evening gown for my then fiance. We spent 8 hours doing photo shoots at the 3 locations with 4 different costume changes and the results were AMAZING!!! We had lots of fun doing a wide range of poses, from romantic to cool to funny, and they were always good at improvising. A few weeks later we received a CD with high quality digital images with and without photoshopping, as well as a 24x30 canvas, which we used for our wedding reception. Our friends were floored by how well the photos turned out. They said the photographers made us look like models, which was awesome b/c we aren't really that attractive at all! (Okay, well maybe my wife is...). For the Wedding photo session, they met us at the Hotel Del Coronado near San Diego and were there with us throughout the whole day, from dressing room to last dance. Travel time to San Diego was counted toward our 10 hour limit, but not travel time back to LA, so we still had a good 8 hours of photos, which was fine b/c ours was a lunchtime wedding so the entire event was about 8 hours long (perfect!). We didn't have a videographer but David and Shinling were so good at taking multiple shots from multiple angles that a videographer would have only gotten in the way. Unfortunately we didn't have much time between the ceremony and reception due to our tight schedule, but David and Shinling managed to make the most of it and we got some pretty awesome shots that were on par or better than the Engagement photos (which we did not think was possible). After the wedding, we again received CDs with high quality digital images and another 24x30 canvas to hang in our bedroom. Before and after both sessions, David and Shinling were very professional, easily reached by phone or e-mail, and very flexible, working with our double physician crazy schedules. They liked to meet us in person to review the photos when they were ready, which was a nice touch. All in all, I highly recommend I Promise Studio and plan to use them again in the future when it's time for our family photo session. ;) If I could give them 10 stars, I would. WOW! Where do I begin? I absolutely love my pictures from Promise Wedding! The staff was so friendly and funny that my cheeks still hurt from laughing so hard. I worked with David and Shin (spell?) for the photo shoot. They were professional but at the same time, I felt so at ease with them too. I shopped around the ENTIRE Las Tunas Drive and some other studios in the San Gab Valley for two weeks before I finally decided on Promise and I have NO regrets at all. In fact, I am getting my cousin to have her new baby pictures taken at Promise. I was hesistant at first because of some bad reviews, but I noticed they were all posted around the same two dates...Hmm, perhaps just bad reviews from different persons of the same family? I'm not sure, but either way I am very happy and impressed with Promise. As with price - this is no $15 crappy package you get from the Westfield Mall but I believe in "you get what you pay for!" I came here to get a professional business photo taken and Shinling, David, and Jamie did such a good job that I decided to come back to do a full-on modeling photoshoot. I wasn't sure what to expect for the photoshoot, but when I got there, Shinling, Jamie, and David, made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. They were very professional. The photoshoot was fun and creative! I was able to choose my own poses, but they gave me very good advice for other poses too. Exceptional services! David and Shi-Ling make a great team. They are both very easy to work with. They are patient to listen to our opinions and adjust accordingly. This review is long overdue! I realized my one year anniversary is approaching and I should not procrastinate any longer on giving Shin-Lin and David their well deserved recognition and praise. My husband and I did the engagement shoot with Shin-Lin and David in April 2011 and loved it! They held our hand through it the whole day of the shoot..literally from 9am-5pm.. inside their studio and then outdoors. The whole experience was very memorable and enjoyable. My husband and I are not big on taking pictures, but they made us feel very comfortable and relaxed. The pictures did not come out generic with awkward smiles. We loved them so much that we decided to have them shoot our day-of wedding pictures. They came on time at the crack of dawn and captured every important moment...the ones I did not notice came out to be the best! The results and final products in the album..AMAZING! Took our photos here, liked some & didn't like some. They should have listened on how their customer's wanted their pose to be taken & not pushing the customers to do what they think right. Also they've promised to show the result after each photo shoot taken but THEY ONLY SHOWED 2 or 3! When we went to picked the pics we liked, we didn't like all pics from one gown. I told the reps there & they were speakin in Chinese & SEEMS DIDN'T CARE @ ALL! Now I feel I only have photos in 3 dffrnt gowns instead of 4! I told them how I felt & they never offered us with anything to cover the feelin of LOST for not having the pose from one gown! Not just that, they seems didn't take enough photos of us together than other couples who have more of their pics as couple together. To add to this, when they lead us on how to pose, they were always told the wrong english! For example they said turn to left, we turned to left they said no..no.. & showed us right with their hand! I was getting so freakin tired & now they think we were the one being bitchin too much! TO ADD AGAIN BOTH PHOTOGRAPHERS ALWAYS TOLD DIFFERENT DIRECTION ANGLES! ONE SAID LOOK TO THE RIGHT, THE OTHER SAID LEFT!!! NOT PROFESSIONAL @ ALL!!!!! And again I feel they could have done more since we paid close to 2 grands, & having communication problems, delayed on keepin their promises such as sending us the result touch up on email, & didn't know how to please their customers, didn't listened to certain thing customers wanted to be done.I also know from their customer that she had to changed into 5 different gowns! 2 wedding, 2 formal & 1 traditional! Did I tell them that? No! And its written on the prices that yes we get to change to 5 different outfits if we have the time! If I knew it, I will make the time to get into 5 dffrnt gowns photo shoots!!!.And this is the big one, when they showed the layout album, OH MY GOD! They look HORRIBLE! Some pics we like they made them became very small pics on the background! They also added some lines here and there making all the photos look so freakin cheap!!!! LIKE I SAID I LIKED SOME PHOTOS & DIDN'T LIKE SOME! SO IF U WANT THEIR WRKS, MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM WHAT YOU WANT! TELL THEM AGAIN & AGAIN CAUSE SEEMS THEY LIKE THEY HAVE HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING SIMPLE ENGLISH! IF U DOUBT THE RESULT OF THE SHOOT, ASK THEM TO SHOW U ON EACH & EVERYTIME THEY TOOK YOUR PHOTO!!! ASK THEM ANYTHING CAUSE HEY U R NOT PAYING $100 OR $500 ONLY? SO U DESERVE ALL THE SERVICE FOR WHAT U R PAYING FOR! AFTER ALL NO ONE EVER RECOMENDED ME TO HAVE MY PHOTOS TO BE TAKEN HERE, BUT THEY THOUGHT SOMEONE TOLD ME TO CHOSE THEM!!!!! DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE MADE! SHOP AROUND!
