I've been to this i-tea location quite a few times and it used to be a top choice but with other boba shops opening up on Irving that have higher quality tasting tea, it has been a while since we've visited. This Sunday afternoon, we decided to come by for some fruit teas. I believe their fruit teas use flavored syrup but don't quote me on that, it just tastes that way. We ordered the litchi green tea which comes with boba and lychee jelly. 30% sweet and 30% ice gives you enough sweetness and flavoring (albeit a little subtle probably because they would need to reduce the flavored syrup to match 30%). They gave a good amount of toppings. We also ordered the strawberry mango fruit tea which comes with mango and strawberry fruit bits (there were a lot of mango bits but just a few strawberry seeds). This one tasted more like a natural fruit tea because of the fruit bits but probably still had some syrup in it. So, all in all, everything tasted ok but when we got home, after trying the drinks, we noticed a wicked looking bug inside the strawberry mango fruit tea. Considering it was a pretty big bug imo, I feel like it should've been noticed by the workers. But, I understand sometimes bugs just sneak into things so it is hard to fault anyone for it. Just be aware. After all is said and done, i-tea doesn't have the best fruit teas on Irving but they're on the more affordable side. read more

It's not amazing, but they have a wide selection with pretty much any drink or topping you could want, everything is decent, and the portions are good for the price. Holy smokes the mango sago drink here is absolutely incredible. I'm a huge fan of mango and I can't believe I didn't know about this place until yesterday. If you're familiar with Golden Island Cafe's mango sago dessert, this is the amazing drink replica. I was a little worried that I couldn't adjust the sweetness (I usually go for ~30%) but the drink just tastes like sweet, ripened-to-perfection mangoes. The drink is really creamy and I absolutely love the little tapioca and chunks of mango that perfect the texture. i-Tea does NOT skimp out on the mango. By the time I finished my drink, the bottom was filled with about ~1inch of mango chunks. Granted, this drink is a bit pricier than the others they offer, but it's probably because you have 1-2 mangoes literally inside your drink so it's definitely worth it. However during my last visit, this business's organization and respect for their patron's time was just not there. Took 45 mins to receive my two drink order. I watched as countless other patrons order much later and receive their drinks much much sooner. I asked a few times throughout the wait, however, they weren't able to provide a status on when my order would be available. It wasn't until I pointed out that I've been waiting over 40 minutes, that they said it was coming right up. A few other individuals appeared to have had a similar experience noted above. A friend of mine recommend me to stop by here after I told him about Boba Guys. I was not disappointed. Drinks: Good - Ordered the Mango Sago ($4.95) since it is one of the most popular drinks (my friend also went crazy when he found out they served it) - The drink had chunks of mango and tapioca while tasting like a mango pudding dessert (very creamy) - I really enjoyed the drink, even though it is more expense than average tea drinks, it's actually pretty good for the price Location/Seating: Poor - It wasn't hard for us to find parking on a Saturday afternoon - Other Boba and food restaurants available to browse and see what you're feeling - Fresh vegetables and fruits were being sold across the street so you could even take a look - There is very little space in this boba shop, fits about 5 people in the line before you're out the door. Geez, I really liked this place. Their high mountain Aishlan tea with cream almost knocked my tie right off my neck. What complex flavors in a tea. Nutty, hint of sweet like caramel. It's so different than my usual Oolong with cream drink. I like this one a lot better. They have a frequent buyer card, and with their tea and cream, you know I'll be stocking up on their drinks and storing them in my refrigerator to take to work. Long line in the middle of the day, but all in all nice service and a great tea place. No wonder there are lines here, and this block is filled with half a dozen tea places with no lines. read more

To be honest, when I first saw that i-Tea had opened in TeaWay's old space, it hardly made a blip on my radar. For one, to me, Wonderful Desserts reigns supreme on Irving. Secondly, I assumed that i-Tea was just another generic boba joint that would quickly come and go. Over time though, after seeing repeated check-ins by friends on Yelp, reading the positive reviews from Yelpers (like Deanna Y.'s, who knows her stuff!), and finally trying them for myself...it's safe to say I was wrong! Ironically, despite being much better than their predecessors, i-Tea doesn't seem to attract the same crowds that TeaWay did at its peak. Which actually isn't a bad thing, since that means lines that are never longer than just one or two people. Also unlike their predecessor, i-Tea is a more traditional sort of boba shop, where they do the toppings behind the counter for you (as opposed to the whole "DIY toppings bar"). While the place is still very tiny, the range of the menu is still pretty extensive, with a number of drink styles, varieties of teas (pretty cool how they set out the different tea leaves for people to see), and numerous toppings/condiments. Since I was craving just a basic milk tea (and wanting to compare them against other milk tea joints), I opted to go with my usual order - (C1) SIGNATURE BLACK MILK TEA ($3.75) with (less) boba. Knowing/fearing that i-Tea's "standard" level could be super sweet, like so many of these newer chains', I opted to get my drink with 50% sweetness (and 30% ice). I don't know if that was the key or not, but I thought the milk tea was pretty well balanced. The sweetness was just right, the consistency was neither thin nor creamy, and, most importantly, you can actually taste the tea! The only knock I had was with the boba; aside from the fact they didn't give me less, it had a nice chew to it, but it was also a little mushy for my liking. As good as the drinks are, it's kind of a bummer that the menu doesn't seem to offer any types of snacks. Not a huge deal, but they have the facilities for it, since it was on their predecessor's menu. In any case, i-Tea is a solid addition to the city's milk tea scene. Wonderful Desserts is still my favorite on Irving (and in SF), but it's a pleasant surprise to say that i-Tea isn't too far behind. read more

Mango Sago 4.95: Their best seller, claims the cashier. Consists of actual FRESH mango bits and clear sago. No, not the canned mango or artificial ones, ACTUAL mangoes. Not too sweet to me, super fresh!! Brings back the days when I used to go Creations and it tasted pretty good back then. The overall drink was quite creamy. Place is quite small. Fits about 6 people and then it gets uncomfortably crowded. There is one long bench against the window with 2 seats. On a Monday at around 8pm, it took less than 7 minutes for them to make my drink. A lot of my friends and fellow yelpers love this place, but after coming here a few times, their boba and overall service is just not the best compared to other boba tea places in the city. First of all, they are really quick, but the service is very hit or miss. Even when there is no one there, the cashiers are extremely impatient at times and always point out that they prefer cash or they'll charge you 50 cents. Also, they denote on the side if they are missing items and I was very surprised to see that a good amount of items of the menu were missing at like 2 pm and this happened when I came a week after as well! In terms of the actual tea, The flavors of the tea are very balanced and I love how they use fruit to accentuate the flavor, but think their smoothies along with their non fruit teas are just missing some flavor. Yes it might be the sweetness amount you get to choose, but just wish their smoothies especially the taro and strawberry tasted more flavorful than milky. For 4 to 5 dollars a drink (and not even glass cups), I suggest going somewhere else. There is also no seating and it gets awfully cramped. I remember the struggles of fitting yourself inside here when this location used to be Teaway... The line was out the door and most people waited inside which made it a little too crowded in there. I ordered a oriental beauty tea (w/milk - an extra $1) hoping it would taste like Jin Tea's in LA. Meh. Tasted like Quickly milk tea to me, which isn't a bad thing because I do like milk tea at Quickly. Great deal for boba tea! First, their quality is good. I got the rose Green tea with half ice and half sugar. My friend has the panda milk tea. We both like it so much. I wish I know about the white jelly in the panda so I can order it, so good. They are very specific in the level of ice and sweetness which I think is a good sign. Second, the price is badass! Where else in this expensive city can you buy a large cup of boba milk tea with around $4? They charge you 50cent for using card? Think of this way: many places only accept cash, so if I tea choose to do that then you have to carry cash every time you want boba milk tea and handle all the coins. They offer a cheap price so they have to minimize they fee. Bank charges them fee for every transaction. The only things may not be a good point: no space for you to sit down and enjoy their drink. I only come here for one thing and one thing only. The mango sago drink. It's Asian dessert in a cup. You get a creamy blend of mango drink with a generous serving of sago and mango chunks. No matter the hour, there is usually a small line but it's not too bad of a wait. I would say 10 minutes tops. Be sure to bring cash since there is a $15 minimum on card (or bring friends so you can combine your purchases). This place is pretty decent. I go here frequently because I live close by and I think they got the best one in this side of the sunset. I usually get Roasted Oolong MT, Fresh Taro MT, Oriental Beauty Or Mango Sago. Mango Sago I think is the most popular. I wish they sold snacks but Quickly's is just a few stores down. Came here one night with some friends because we were all craving mango sago. Now, this place has been in my bookmarks for some time so I was more than excited to finally give this place a try. As one may notice, the line of shops on Irving tend to open up and close up as fast as a year to two years at a time. This spot used to be where the OG Teaway was. Parking - there is metered and residential parking. Not bad on weekdays but probably a bit tough on the weekends. Service - they're really nice and they make the drink pretty quick. Drinks - 1. Mango sago - this was surprisingly really good! I am a huge fan of mango sago and I have got to say this place lives up to its hype. From what I understand, they stopped selling the mango sago for some time since it wasn't mango season anymore...but since there was such a high demand for it, I guess they started using canned mango (there's a bunch of the cans sitting next to the one table with seats facing the window). I like how it isn't watered down like how golden island (my usual spot for mango sago) is but it's just a little too overpowering and concentrated for me. There's mango chunks in there and they're very generous with the sago portion though. Other than that, I will definitely be back! read more

Review #115 - 2018 While we were waiting in hopes that the hot dog place next door would eventually open up, we thought we might as well order some drinks until then. When we showed up, there was no one around so we were able to place our orders right away. Surprisingly, my two nephews said that they didn't want anything so my son and I were the only two would ended up getting a drink. About 3 minutes later, the line was out the door so the two employees seemed a little nervous so they took quite a while to make my son's drink, even though mine was already done. I got the white peach oolong, which was just ok. There was very little hint of any tea and the level of sweetness was almost nonexistent. My son got the hazelnut milk tea and his drink was a little better than mine, still very little hint of tea. I guess I'm just not a very big fine of I-Tea after all. read more

Some updates since my last review: -Brown rice milk tea with boba (hot, 0% sugar) is another favorite of mine, the drink is especially creamy. -They don't have white pearls, only agar jelly, which I am not a fan of. -They got rid of their physical stamp cards and use a computerized (cloud-based) reward system where you use your phone number to add points to your account. I-Tea isn't the only store that uses this system so that's pretty cool! -The boba is a lot better than when I first started coming here. We love boba tea and finding the best boba place in every city. I-tea is one of the best we've found in San Francisco. Similar to other stores, sugar and ice levels can be adjusted. We ordered the hot jasmine milk tea with no sugar and boba, and hot taro milk tea with 30% sugar. Both drinks were delicious and not too sugary. This used to be my favorite boba place in the Sunset area; however, the unthinkable happened tonight after I got my drinks there. As soon as I took a sip of my boba (B5), I quickly noticed there was something hard in it. I managed to get it out and it turned out to be some type of plastic pellets that was broken from my accidentally chewing on it (see pic). I quickly returned to the store and gave back the drinks and demanded a refund. I think this is going to scar me for a long time when it comes to boba drinks. I'm really disturbed and disappointed by this experience. Additionally, I wasn't the only one who noticed it. As i was ordering my drink, a lady came by and complained about something hard in her drink as well; she had her drink remade, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt... You can't really go 10 blocks in this city without finding yourself passing a boba shop. So yes, you most certainly have options. i-Tea is not a standout option by looks itself. It's not a fancy joint. It doesn't feel that way about itself and it certainly does not present itself in that way. It's a small and clean efficient little shop with no place for patrons to dawdle. It's a lean mean drink producing machine. What makes this place shine and the choice is its staffing. Are you indecisive like me? Tell the staff a few things about what you're looking for in a drink or I guess even your mood and they'll make the drink of your unknown dreams. Never knew I needed a warm wintermelon milk tea with grass jelly bits until one was made for me with the utmost care. Milk teas not your thing? You have connections (parents, friends, coworkers) with more traditional tastes predating the boba craze? i-tea has you covered. Options galore. Check out their hot drink options, namely their longan red date drink. Packing less than 100 calories (calories are listed for all drinks on the menu!), but a lot of flavor and skin brightening and blood enriching benefits, the drink tastes like heaven and most certainly will make your car smell like heaven if you leave a freshly brewed cup of it in the car as you run some errands on Irving Street as I did. I love the boba here and am a loyal customer. However, as a professional in the payments industry, I cannot help but notice the disregard for the Consumer Protection Act which states that a credit card surcharge cannot exceed 4% of the total transaction. For example: a $5 drink, the surcharge cannot exceed 4% or $0.20. However i-Tea charges $0.50, which amounts to a 10% surcharge fee, over 2x the illegal amount. The minimum purchase of $15 to avoid said surcharge is also higher than the legally permitted amount of $10. The purpose of these laws is to prevent businesses from generating profits on the actual acceptance of credit cards, rather than the product or service itself. Again....great boba. read more

We walked up to the door to buy 23 to-go bobas for a kids birthday party. Had all teas written down with extra additives they wanted in the teas. 4 feet in was a counter and young woman at the counter. She said she couldn't make us bobas without a mask very rudely. I asked (since we were on the sidewalk ordering and speaking to her) if we could order them and have someone with a mask walk them 4 feet to us out on the sidewalk and she said no. Mask mandate was lifted for airplanes, schools etc. so we thought we'd be able to buy 23 kids birthday party bobas while on the sidewalk on Irving. Apparently not. She said we cannot order bobas without a mask on. We tried to pull our tee shirts up over our mouth from the sidewalk to order. She still said no. Walked down to t-pumps, walked in without a mask, had to call and re-adjust the entire order to their tea menu, but in the end it all worked out well. Wow. This place really let me down. Service was quick and friendly, because we came 30 min before closing but the cashier was still very helpful. I got the black milk tea and my friend and brother got the white peach oolong tea and the Thai tea. The Thai tea may have been the only decent thing there. It wasn't as strong as expected and has a funny aftertaste but it tasted how it should've. The white peach oolong tastes like sugary water with a splash of peach syrup. The milk tea was just bland and had a bamboo-y aftertaste... I think this is one of those amateur boba shops with pre made milk tea and a bunch of syrups. Not very quality milk tea for the price.
