Visited July 14 2026. While in Gridley I really wanted a small vanilla shake for the ride because it was so DANG hot! They have been a local staple for a long time according to one of the locals. The milkshake was delicious and kind of thick. I started slurping on it right away to cool down! This is a place that you go up to the window and order. They have some outside seating in the front ( uncovered) and in the back they have some old picnic tables that are covered. I would suggest they upgrade their picnic benches and refresh their old sign on the road. Other than that We left satisfied! This place is suppose to be very busy during the hot months! Let me start with this place is great food and has been in Gridley for a long time. I haven't been there in some time. I drove by the other day and stopped in. Sooooo goood! I will say to the owners, for a business next to the HWY the place looks drab. My suggestion would to pressure wash the outside and maybe pull the dead flowers out. My first visit to Ice Burgie was not everything I thought it would be. I saw some pictures of their French fries online and they looked really good, so I decided to try it. They fries looked to be medium size and cooked perfectly in the pictures. I ordered the 5 piece chicken strip meal with large fries and a large Coke and it came to $14.81. I asked for light ice in my Coke and ranch for my fries. When I picked up my food, my drink wasn't ready, so I reminded them I ordered a Coke with light ice. The employee seemed a little irritated, but they got my drink and I left. They gave me a lot of food for the price and everything was hot and crispy. However, the fries were thin cut type, different from the pictures, but still good, so I didn't mind that much. The ranch looked and tasted like mayonnaise with some bits of dried parsley in it, and was gross. My Coke was filled almost half way up with ice. I was actually surprised at how quickly I ran out of soda while I drinking it. The food was good, and you get a lot for your money, but it wasn't the greatest experience. I was thinking three and a half stars, but we can't do halves, so I rounded up to four. read more

For a local place, they do great. This isn't a corporate model of efficiency folks. They didn't get my special order right. My BDC dry, came with everything. red onion is a nice touch. Maybe mayo and mustard is a Gridley thing. Didn't bother me. Ketchup and mustard are what I'm used to. I like dry bc I can taste the beef better. All the more to help you eaters of tasty burgers. Ice Burgie and I have a love/hate relationship. Let's talk about the love part first. If you like pellet ice then this is the place for you! Many sodas options to choose from as well as syrups to add in (think raspberry Dr Pepper, vanilla orange soda). Their shakes and malts are great and affordable. My kids love going for shakes after dinner on hot nights. As for food - my kids usually stick to the chicken fingers and they pretty good. They aren't dry like other places and they have decent flavor. The BBQ sauce is good to dip into! You get big portions of fries for the cost, however as far as onion rings and fried mushrooms they get skimpy. I love them, but not exactly worth the cost. They need to up the quantity on those. The jalapeño poppers are always a go to. My husband and I pretty much stick with the bacon burger, mushroom burger, or the bulldog burger (on sourdough). I get my burgers dry, but with the fixings and everything always tastes fresh. For most menu items the cost seems reasonable, but for some the portions do not match the price. We do love the history and nostalgia behind this place and how much it is adored by locals. Ok...the hate. Kind of what I mentioned above - the price for some things just isn't worth it due to quantity. It's not a quality issue, it's more of the lack of "bang for your buck". Menu prices should be consistent and mimic the "low cost" if that's what they are going for. It can get busy and the wait can take awhile. Now, this means a few things. 1. It's a good assumption that if it's busy then it's good. 2. They make the food to order. We need to remember good things come to those who wait. However, if you do want your food in a timely manner and do not want to worry about crowds/lines I highly suggest calling in your order. We do this a lot in the summer even if we are just ordering milkshakes. The staff ....attitudes are inconsistent. Most of the employees are students and all female. I've always wondered why I have never seen any male employees there. Hmmmm ?? But yes, it's true, you can go and have the kindest personality taking your order or you can go and get someone taking your order that you would be nervous to eat after they have spoken to you. I do think that Ice Burgie needs to do better about making sure employees are good with people/customers. In other reviews on here it's mentioned quite frequently that this is a reoccurring issue. Ok lastly - the seating is sketchy. The old vintage concrete tables and benches in the front are cracked, loose and need fixing. In the back there are picnic tables that have seen better days. The wood needs to be replaced or fixed. Splinters anyone??? Possibly updating the outdoor tables with new ones would be a great idea. Other than that it's a great establishment and I would recommend everyone try it at least once. Remember...the shakes and the fries are the most bang for your buck! read more

Honestly for a $15 meal, everything was spot on, Burger was good, onion rings were good. Staff was great and friendly, not some out of the world gourmet food, but it is worth every penny of that $15, Simple, Filling, cheap. Probably one of my favorite burger stop shops I've been to. This place is a classic burger joint. Right on the main strip. Classic walk up window. This is a mom and pop establishment. The staff was super helpful and so nice. Our order came out fairly fast considering the amount of people. The food was SO GOOD. Burger was Classic. Had a soft bun good, the burger had good flavor and not trying to be anything it wasn't. This is a good place to get burgers. It took quite a while to get our order but worth the wait. I wouldn't recommend ordering the chili cheese fries or poppers. They aren't worth the price. Gridley is a small town off of State Highway 99 between Chico (Sierra Nevada Brewing Company) and Yuba City (prune capital of the world). What was I doing in Gridley you ask? Let's just say my work takes me to a ton of "off-the-grid" places like Gridley (pun-intended). I am a big fan of local restaurants and I use the Yelp app all the time to find them. Sure, I could have gotten a burger at In-N-Out over in "Prune City", but that over-rated place with burgers made by unhappy pimple-faced high school kids is something that I can get anywhere. Instead, I chose Ice Burgie because I saw a ton of locals in line as I drove by and the reviews seemed legit and not written by the employees and their friends. For starters, Ice Burgie is CASH ONLY. So if you show up with no dolla' dolla' bills y'all that is a YOU problem. Also, it's an old-school hamburger stand with outdoor seating and no air conditioning but that is remedied because you can cool down by getting their flavored sodas or their milkshakes that seem to bring all the boys/girls to the yard. Their claim to fame is the Bulldog burger. This burger consists of a meat patty that is grilled-to-order and topped with grilled onions, Thousand Island dressing, cheese, and lettuce that is then sandwiched between two slices of grilled sourdough bread. Since I have been watching my cholesterol, I decided to go for the Bulldog-Lite, which is called the Bullpup (basically half a Bulldog). The burger was greasy and the bread was also greasy. But hell, that is what the soda is for! Moreover, you are at a burger joint not some salad fucking bar like Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes. And you know what? At least the grease tasted like fresh grease unlike 24-hour grease from Ickey D's down the street. I devoured the Bullpup in a matter of seconds and instantly regretted not getting the full-sized Bulldog. Then again, if I did, I might have succumbed to a major food coma on the drive back home and crashed... which would have meant that I would have been transported back to the nearby Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital (now the Orchard Hospital)... which would not have been too bad since it is a stone's throw away from the Ice Burgie. Live. Die. RepEAT. So... the burger was really good and the fact that the Ice Burgie (previously known as The Burgie) has been around since the 1950s is proof that these classic burgers have been able to withstand the test of time. Since the burgers are cooked to order, expect to wait a little. However, at the end of the day, isn't it better to wait for your burger than to have your burger wait for you? That is, unless you are one of the many locals I observed that called in advance! * The best way to park is to enter via the north-adjacent Rite Aid. read more

Best burger I've had in my life. I ordered the cheeseburger with jalapeños. I came from out of town, about 2 and a half hours away on the way to take a friend home who lives in Chico and we actually took the wrong route, so that's why we ended up in Gridley. I saw they had burritos and corn dogs for only a dollar and 9 cents. I. So I wanted to stop and check it out and saw they had burgers for a decent price. I discovered this place a few years ago when I was going to Gridley for a work errand. This is a "stand" kind of restaurant. No indoor seating or anything like that, just walk up to the window and order. There's a little outdoor seating, but I always end up eating in my car. Now that the CVS (I think?) was built right next to it, there's a lot more parking. The food here is GREAT. I mean really, I don't think you could pick anything bad off the menu. Awesome burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, milkshakes, FRIES. Oh man. I have dreams about their fries. Definitely worth trying out if you're in the area. read more
