Until now I've just been skating by, but it's time to review this place. Definitely a good rink for skating, and definitely has a lot of positive factors that could get it towards a five-star rating. Prices aren't great but that's not the main problem. Some of the staff really doesn't care about their job at all and they let you know about it. Some of the boots are so old and worn out that it's actually dangerous to wear them. These factors, especially the boots, totally ruined the experience. They really need to replace the shoes and I won't be raising the rating until they do. read more

The rink is literally full of puddles and bumpy ice. The skates are shot. This place has seen its better days. I asked about the puddles and they said this is normal because it's an open air rink. ?????? What is he talking about? Are there other kinds? When I started to take pictures and video they threatened to call the police and have me thrown in jail because there are minors here and it's illegal. What's their problem? They certainly don't want the public to know the rink is crapped out. Slip and fall get soaked and wet. Would you waste your time going to the puddle rink? read more

I haven't been ice skating in years! This was a great first time in a while. I'm used to rollerblading in regular skating rinks but this was pretty close to it! $10 for a person + $5 for skate rentals and you get to skate for as long as you'd like. I adore winter sports, despite being born and raised in the sweltering heat of Houston. I enjoy going to Memorial City Mall, plus it coincidently has an ice skating rink easily accessible, which I've currently picked up an interest in. Coming to the ice rink during Autumn and being able to breathe in the cool atmosphere emitting from the ice is a joyous butterfly-like tangibility that Southerners in the South don't often receive unless we're in deep winter. Ice skating, initially, takes time to adapt to, but within a few minutes, you'll innately initiate your groove in ice skating and begin to zip by other fellow ice skaters, as well as hilariously ungracefully fall or collide. The most enjoyable part about ice skating for me is the liberation and adrenaline I experience once I've triumphantly executed a technique that requires a certain amount of finesse, whether that be, being able to successfully turn at a certain velocity, shifting, halting or competing with others. The only dilemma for me is borrowing the company's skates. The interior padding within the rental skates is notably annoying, so near an hour into ice skating, my ankles and toes are indeed chafed because of the hard padding. You know it ain't a good feeling when you've gotta disinfect and treat multiple sites of ripped skin. Otherwise, ice skating is an enchanting exercise that is challenging while at the same time gratifying as both you and I continue to excel, so long as we keep at it. read more

This place has the worse skating shoes to rent. Mine was very worn out and smelled like an old gym locker. I wear a common size (11) so I'm sure a lot of people wear it, but in that case they need to purchase more and cycle them out less. If the shoes need to retire, then throw them away! Don't rent them out! Aside from the patches of worn fabric, my shoes had frail laces and were mostly undone except for the first three holes. Since the laces were all frail, it was very difficult to put the string in each small hole. In result, it was very difficult to skate and enjoy my time. There was no ankle support. For $14, I expect to get some decent shoes. The Galleria charges $13.50 and provides MUCH better shoes to rent. My advice is to bring your own skates if you come here. If you want to rent, just go to the Galleria. The skating rink is bigger anyways. read more

This place has some great ice. I haven't ice skated here, but I have played hockey. The compressors are great! The ice is nice and hard for me to slide around on. Most ice in Houston is pretty slushy because of our constant hot weather. But this place rocks. I dislike the locker room situation. Their bathrooms/showers reek of urine and desperately need to be cleaned. They have lockers to lock up valuables, but it looks like all of them have been broken into. And let's be honest, the parking situation is dismal. You have to arrive 30 minutes before you normally arrive just to park. But, I like the ice itself. So I will be back. Now for ice skating, they don't prorate at all. Wether you skate a full session or 30 minutes it's the same price. That's a bummer. You should have prorations available so you don't spend the money for just a few minutes. It's silly. read more

I was really excited to come with my boyfriend and toddler, I called 4 times in the 2 days prior to me just showing up to ask questions about toddler skates and age limit, and time. We get there and of course my toddler wasn't old enough. So I mentioned that to the hispanic lady at the front and the 5 other workers behind her. She said that the phone number is their corporate number and then proceeds to say "we try and focus on the 900 skaters we get a day" mean while there was maybe 50 people on the Ice and we walked right up to the desk without having to wait for other customers. Very rude and unprofessional, and if they have 3 other people behind the desk not helping other questions they should definitely have a working phone. read more

In the past few years this venue has upped its game. Hockey dressing rooms are clean, showers, toilets and sinks all work and are clean and sanitized. The facilities are stocked with paper towels and toilet paper. It is a well managed facility lead by a team of people that work to please their customers. I come from the hockey side so I cannot comment on the pleasure skating experience - but when I am in the mall for shopping or eating I see the ice full of pleasure skaters which must be a testament to it being a great experience. The rink team address facility and mechanical issues promptly and work to ensure that the ice surface is in great condition for each successive group. What is very nice about this rink is the location. There are several other rinks in town, but Memorial City Ice is the most centrally located. If you want to play hockey or just take your kids for a pleasure skate don't hesitate to go here. You will be well taken care of and have a lot of fun. read more

Note: I come here to practice figure skating technique not hang out with my friends. The ice here is a lot better than the Galleria. In comparison to the Galleria, there's less traffic with more upkeep and the temperature is better controlled due to the architectural frame around the rink. I haven't checked out the other rinks in a while, IE Sugar Land, but Ice Skate USA is my favorite as of now :) The private lessons here are not bad. I had one lesson from a Russian woman named Inna. She was referred to me by a mom i met on the bleachers. That mom said Inna was good for her 6-year-old daughter who is shy and needs lots of encouragement. read more

Took my sons there today. They had fun and the facility was decent BUT the staff was not much help- in fact they seemed like a bunch of kids with attitudes. The skates we were give had broken laces and one of the skates had jagged edges inside that scraped up my son's ankle as he skated. One guy handed my other son a mismatched pair of skates which just seemed careless. It was as if the staff is a bunch of young people who are more interested in trying to impress each rather than caring for the customers' needs. My fiancé had her daughters birthday here last year. The host also provided a lesson and she was great. I am sad my sister, who just recently had her daughters birthday here did not get the same experience we did. Our host was very friendly with a good sense of humor. even knew a lot about hockey! She made the kids feel safe on the ice and knew how to interact with the adults as well. I believe I gave her a $60 tip. The lady who runs the birthdays messed up sisters pizza order, they did not have desired drinks avliable and was very rude if we asked for assistance after paying the bill. The host had a bad attitude and was rushing us to get out of the room. I wish I could have remembered the host from last time because I would have made a recommendation to my sister to request her. We had fun ice skating and the place was busy. My advice is if you are planning on going here to ice skate, wear long thick socks and get an size up on the skates. This is THE place to celebrate Independence Day in scorching Houston. Our kids (ages 4, 7 and 9) really enjoyed ice skating here. Staff and guests were friendly, especially the 22-year-old Italian young man who paid special attention to everyone needing a little extra encouragement. Had my three year olds party here. Awesome idea! Right? Maybe, but not here... Limited space on the bleacher section. So many people going everywhere!! When you book a party it's for a little over 2 hours , and one of the two hours is spent skating. You don't get the party room the whole two hours, it's only for the last hour you're there. DUMB! And VERY INCONVENIENT !! So we skated everyone had fun! Some people, of course, had to stay behind since our stuff had to sit there out in the open while the other parties were in the party rooms. Then when they were ready for us to go to a party room the attendants, didn't even ask if it was ok to start shoving my gifts in plastic bags. Really? I could have taken them myself. I don't need you to ruin the beautifully wrapped gifts that my guest brought. Then the package I got came with three pizzas. Well I wanted to order more pizzas and I was told we couldn't since it was ordered ahead of time. Well do you want to make money or not? And the attendant (Mexican lady in the front) had the nerve to tell me what I said over the phone about drinks and stood there arguing with me in front of my guests. Really?? Then when it was almost time to leave the attendant came into the party room, which we were almost done getting our stuff out and tells my guest you have one minute to leave. Wow.. How rude! Obviously these "ladies" hate their job or life. They can have birthday party's here for a good amount of price. The lessons they can really help you from being bad at ice skating to being good at ice skating. Rudest attendants. Most uncomfortable skates. Terrible, totally uneven ice. My son and I both agreed, the skates were the most uncomfortable we've ever tried. Our feet hurt from the moment we stood up and he (who loves ice skating) couldn't do it for more than 40 min due to the pain. The ice was terrible too, I've never seen actual hole in a rink before. I just went today with my son and my husband and it was a bad idea. The staff is unfriendly to say the least, no price of the renting anywhere... no flyers or any posters. When you ask they mumble! Anyway, we paid 14$ per person even for a 5 years old... and got the most worn out, damaged and mismatched skates ever. The team at Memorial City mall that manages the ice rink is totally professional and do a great job. I've been taking my kids to the rink for years for ice hockey and public skating as well as playing hockey myself. This rink has built a community of players and families. I had a birthday party and it was just AMAZING! Kids enjoyed it, my husband and I didn't have to do a thing. Party host had great hospitality. I came here last weekend with two friends, and it was a solid skating experience! I used to figure skate, and honestly, I was pretty impressed by these facilities, considering it was inside a mall - it felt a bit more like open skate times on a dedicated skating rink and I forgot we were in a mall! The skates I received were decently sharp. I've been to another skating rink in the past where the skates were definitely not sharp, which led to a less-than-enjoyable experience, but that wasn't the case here. There are also lockers for use for 50 cents, and they're decently sized so that our party of 3 could share 1 and fit all 3 pairs of shoes along with 2 bags inside. While we were there, they zamboni-ed the surface, and that made the skating experience so much better - it was really bumpy before, but I guess we just caught them at a bad time. It was a pretty good amount of people where it felt like there were people having fun around you too but it wasn't too crowded for you to go fast if you wanted. read more
