Thursday Adult Skate Night used to be a whole vibe and thee place to be. Unfortunately they lowered the age from 21 years old to 18 years old and man, did it change the vibe. Over the years I got used to seeing familiar faces every week and would look forward to seeing them and skating with them but that all changed when they lowered the age. It went from being around grown adults and a adult vibe, to basically skating with a bunch of kids. Nothing weeds out grown adults more faster than lowering the age to 18 lol, so apparently plenty others feel this way. I guess that was the plan along, to change the vibe... Such a bummer read more

We came here recently for some indoor fun and had a blast! Walking in is like stepping back in time. The pricing is quite remarkable for the amount of time you can spend in here... basically all day/afternoon. $12 to get in and $4 to rent skates. I wouldn't say the folks at the front desk were especially friendly or helpful. There's a concession stand that sells a variety of fried items, all for a reasonable price (we're talking prices from the late '90s to early '00s). And a skate buddy (contraption to help those new to skating) costs $5 to rent for 2 hours. Beginner skaters have a special cordoned-off space in the center to practice their skating. My only gripe is that signs posting the rules are all around the rink, but no one seems to enforce them? There were some kids that were constantly lapping others and no one stopped them. With that being said, I am not sure I would choose to host a bday party here since there doesn't actually seem to be a consequence for anyone that's skating (literally) circles around others. HELLO, ADULT NIGHTS ON THURSDAY! First of all, the staff is absolutely amazing and so welcoming. The DJ played the best music I've ever heard at any adult night throughout the many states/rinks I've been to. The local skaters were wonderful in teaching us new line dances and were so friendly. Literally, I would live in Houston for this skate night and skate family! Haha. I will certainly be back to this rink! I wanted to take skating lessons so I looked up rinks and Dairy Ashford popped up. The lessons were $20 total for one hour (including skate rentals) and you got to stay for adult only skating which started after 8pm (on Thursdays only). Class started at 6:30pm and as we pulled into the parking lot, there was plenty of spots but the rink looks just like other rinks I've seen, meaning it needs some TLC. We checked in and got started with the class. While I found it difficult to skate, I enjoyed the experience and stayed a bit late to see some pro skaters show off their skills after 8pm. I'd love to be more consistent with the lessons but $20/session is a bit much and they don't have any packages to choose from. Sigh. read more

I tend to not leave reviews for stuff, but I've been skating in Houston at different rinks, and rented skates all my life, and this is by far the worst experience I've had in 30+ years. For context, here for a school event. I tried three pairs of size 8 roller blades on, all three pairs of boots were threadbare and torn at the buckles. The second pair didn't have any brakes. After the third pair hurt, I asked for my ticket back so I could go get a refund. I spoke with a man at the front desk who spoke over me, insisted the skates were brand new, and was clearly angry that the skate counter employee gave me my ticket back. I asked him to please let me finish what I was trying to say. He told me I was speaking over him and he is trying to give me a refund. I told him I didn't care for the refund anymore after our whole back and forth. I just wanted to make sure my feedback was received that the skates were terrible. He was rudely asking me for my card number so he could issue the refund and I explained I didn't even want to have this conversation anymore because he was bullying me through it. To that he scoffed, waved his hand in the air and said, "whatever ma'am. " If you want a huge, bright, extra loud, super mid skating experience with sore ankles, this is the rink for you. read more

Went to a kids birthday here, and this place is amazing!! I love the music they play. They also have roller races, and the ambiance is a nice low light glow in dark vibe. Great to throw a 70's - 90's party. Great food also. Only thing that I found was a con is the parking lot . It's small. read more

Came to skate during our weekend in Houston and I typically have my own skates but I didn't bring them. I instantly got a blister on my foot after 10 min of skating and the wheels were very stuck so I couldn't maneuver well. The staff was really helpful, and seemed to enjoy working at the rink. The music and atmosphere were on point. read more

I went here recently for a date night. During the adult skate on Thursdays. It was fun but there's not much ankle support on the skates. Also at part of the rink ( Close to where you rent the skates) it seems that there's dips in the actual track that will get caught on the wheels and make you fall. Other than that it was affordable, you get a good amount of time for adult skate time and the DJ was pretty good. I would go again but I would just bring my own skates. read more

DARR's adult night on Thursday is the only place good dancers are in the city - I'm convinced of it. They have a wonderful beginner adult skate class before the adult night. For about $20 you get a class, rentals, and adult skate night entrance. I would not recommend going to the adult skate night here unless you've taken their skate class or already are a confident skater. It's face paced, fun, and packed! Great energy and a great group of skaters call DARR their home. Don't ruin it by coming and not knowing how to be safe on the rink. read more

I'm here in town visiting some family and I came across this place and let's say I was not disappointed, it was just enough people a diverse crowd & the DJ was playing some jams. I have skated here two times and really enjoyed it! I went on a Saturday and on Valentine's Day. It was extremely busy and packed on the Saturday that I went. Didn't really get to skate as much because I didn't want to run into anyone. On Valentine's Day, barely anyone was there and it was nice. I got to enjoy it a bit more and have more room to skate. The price, music, and staff are great! I did grab a quick snack. I tried the popcorn but it was really salty so I didn't eat much of it. But they do have food you can eat there if you're hungry. The facility could use a few updates. I want to try the adult skate night and see what it's like. I love being able to still go to a roller rink because I did it when I was younger. It feels like going back in time. I also like seeing all of the skaters do tricks. read more

This was the 1st time I taken my boys to roller skating. My boys really enjoy roller skating. I had to rent the skater support to help them skate. Admissions, rental on skates, and skater supporter are all charge separately. We were here for almost 2 hours. There is an small area for kids that does not know how to skate. Parents do not have to rental skates to help there child skate. However parents can only stay in this area if u do not have skates. Definitely will bring my kids back. The skating ring is pretty old but still in good condition. Im happy there's still a skating ring in Houston that I can take my kids too. read more

I used to come to this place all the time as a kid (yes, that was like 20 years ago). It is frozen in time - it is exactly how I remember it. It could definitely use a facelift but I suppose that's some of its charm. You are charged $8 to get in and not skate (or if you have your own skates) or $11 for entrance + skate rental. The place was busy on Saturday night with all sorts of events: kids parties, high school parties, adult parties, etc. The rink got pretty crowded at times, especially because little kids can use these skate-assister contraptions that take up a lot of room. All in all, this place gets the job done but could be a lot nicer if they would invest some cash in a facility update. read more

Just had my son's birthday here. My son had a good time which is why I'm giving the 3 stars. Desirae, our bday helper was great. However, the lady in front with the black hair was sssooo rude. I called beforehand to ask some questions (I was very calm), and she told me to take deep breaths just because I was asking questions. She wouldn't let my husband in to set up until she asked him all these questions about paying, when they couldve easily asked after we set up. She's definitely on a power trip. We had an ice cream party for 29 kids and it was $700!!! The air wasn't working properly and they'd scheduled way too many parties at the same time. Too many people on the skating floor at the same time and it was dangerous. Just get ready to spend a ton of money and have that lady treat you like you're stupid for asking questions. read more

They do not enforce dress code there was a woman in her mid twenties with her butt cheeks hanging out of her SHORT white shorts last night. Inappropriate for a childrens place, the woman was clearly on a date but she could of worn longer shorts the shorts did not cover her butt at all. This was my first time visiting and I'm really disappointed. When we got there, I asked the women at the register what time the they closed, she abruptly banged against the window to point at a sign with times rather than just telling me the time. It wasn't adult night, so there were many kids and they DID NOT enforce mask wearing which was extremely off putting. The size of the place is okay and the music was a little hit or miss but that's to be expected. But there were a lot of races which is great for kids but it was... a lot. To top things off, to return the skates the line was very long and disorderly. In addition to that, when my friend returned her skates they misplaced her shoes which was not the way we wanted to end things. Overall, there are better skate places in the Houston area. I am a seasoned adult, and I have been going to the DARR frequently for several years; Pros: It's a roller skating rink! thank you for being there! recently renovated; on thurday's, they have a DJ coming and it is reserved to grown ups after 07:00 pm They have races which are a favorite for all the kids. Cons: They do not offer any subscription, you will have to pay each time. Even if reasonable, I would love to see a monthly fee, for those who are frequent users. Saturdays and Sundays are like a zoo, with kids using those "skate mates" which are not really compatible with organized skating. Everybody only skates anti-clockwise. I asked a few times to change the direction, and they did, but it is never spontaneous. It does not do much for practicing both feet as lead. Narrative: I go to this place every Thursdays and Fridays, early, before the crowd. I have sometimes ventured during Saturdays and Sundays, but lately it is almost impossible to skate because of the skate mates' users crossing left, right and center, totally out of control. If you go when the place opens, you can enjoy better, providing you don't mind going round and round... :-) read more

After all these years, I can still say, "I let my date make it to second base at the roller rink." I came to Dairy Ashford Roller Rink this weekend for my friend's private birthday party. An adult birthday party I must say ... "BYOB" I must add. ...Yes, BYOB! For the adults out there wanting to relive the past, I recommend a celebration here. My girlfriend kicked off her twenty-something birthday - 80s style - which was a complete hit amongst this massive group. Here are some basic details on this adult party package ($700 plus tax): *2 1/2 hours for up to 50 Guests, skaters and non-skaters *BYOB (no kegs or glass bottles in exception to wine bottles) *All guests must be 21 and over *Friday or Saturday night 10:30 pm to 1:00 am *Admission & skate/inline rental Included *Each additional person to enter after 50 guests is $10 *You can bring your own food *Waiver & Contract to be signed by host and all guests *Price includes Dj for games/music To help offset the cost, everyone paid $10 at the door, and the gracious hostess covered the rest; but that price also included our choice of regular skates/inline. Completely well worth it ... I would have paid more if she asked. And the venue? This particular rink puts my beloved Bear Creek to shame. They just got new carpet (though it still has that musty roller rink smell; you know what I'm talkin' bout.) It's larger, plenty of tables, psychedelic neon colors, carpeted walls, seating along the rink should you get tired - or injured - along the way, lockers, clean restrooms, ski ball and a concession stand. I'll admit that I didn't think I'd survive this party. I actually expected to break something, like a hip, but I made it! (Inebriated, but uninjured.) And it felt good. Oh how I missed couple skating. And this time around, my date lasted longer than just a few songs. read more

More people falling down than your average Houston Sports Bar! Okay, besides the no drinking (booze) and rolling rule, Dairy Ashford Roller Rink is an excellent old school skating rink located between Westheimer and Briarforest. It's just as gaudy and rough around the edges as you might remember the rink of your hey-day being. Jill N's review had it right, but as a dad with three roller girls I had to say how much fun it is (even for the tag-a-long parent). I may have heard Sabbath's Crazy Train twice in two hours, but who cares when you're cruisin with the kids. Special event nights must be great people watching events. I got a taste of that one evening when I saw two guys with dance shoes with low profile WOODEN wheels doing incredible moves and dodging kids (and me). This is definitely a family oriented rink. The whole place witnessed a rather terrible event where a teenaged boy purposely knocked down and kicked his elementary school cousin. The staff and owner took charge of the situation, and respective parents and the police were called. This is the extreme exception to the fun environment this rink has, and I think that the facility handled it promptly and correctly. While I'm definitely going to check out Fun Plex on Beechnut, I'm still hitting the DARR for good wholesome (and reasonably priced) fun. read more
