I was there for the music, but someone convinced me to taste their fries and I knew right away I'd be getting some more! I was already curious having seen they came with bearnaise sauce. I managed to hold off for an hour or so, then didn't remember to take a picture until I'd devoured half of them. Texture is perfect- crispy outside, almost fluffy inside. There were also good non-alcoholic drink options; I went with a very tasty ginger beer. It got fairly busy despite being a holiday weekend, but I never had to wait too long for a bartender. The venue's stage is smaller with a higher proportion of seating to dance floor than some spaces I've been in. The sound is good all over the room, and both of the bands I came to see put on a great show. read more

The cheese curds were absolutely astounding so I had high hopes for everything else. Unfortunately I didn't like anything else that I ate. I feel bad that I disliked the food because everyone was so nice and they brought me a cheesecake as a congrats for my graduation. The service really is outstanding and I'd give them another try just based on that. They have great drink deals and the bartender was able to whip up a creative drink, which I always appreciate. Great spot for a happy hour or early dinner spot before we went to the Children's Theatre nearby. I've been here a handful of times, but mostly in the summer months to enjoy their patio or a show. Happy Hour- $2 off signature cocktails- I got a Manhattan (sadly they were out of cherries) and my friend got the Negroni. Both were tasty, but the Manhattan was less sweet option. Food- We split a few items. Sweet potato cakes: these were lovely. They had a great balance of heat/ sweet and savory qualities. The cranberries gave it texture and I enjoyed! Veggie burger: This was always my favorite thing to get here. It seemed to not be as good as I remembered, but it was still yummy. The bun and the burger weren't that warm, so maybe that's why? The burger seemed thinner than it had been in the past as well. I would still recommend. We subbed the fries instead of house chips. They had a spicy seasoning on them and were my favorite style of French fries. Overall, our server was friendly and attentive. Things started off really nicely with some well done appetizers including their BBQ Burnt Ends, Fried Green Tomatoes, and basket of Cajun Fries. All of these were really nice little plates, but the entrees fall flat from there leaving the overall visit a bit more middling. The Fried Chicken Sandwich may very well have been the worst I've ever had - the amount of chicken inside the crispiest and hardest breading I have ever bitten into can be described courteously as minimal. The flavor? I'd describe it simply as a bun with too much crunch. Things went from quite good to just mediocre due to the varying experiences of different courses. I'd definitely recommend the apps mentioned, but skip the Chicken Sandwich at all costs! read more

I totally understand being short staffed and overwhelmed... therefore, I have no problem being patient, but the bartender was just rude. The host was also rude when asking simple questions about where we could sit/stand, etc. The margarita I got was also not great and tasted like cheap liquor. The bathrooms were very gross. It's a cool building. It's a cool location. It's a nice place to see a show. The drink menu is good--they make a great Bloody Mary. The food was....meh? There were no complaints. But nothing stood out. And the portions were great, but I didn't feel compelled to ask for a box because I knew the leftovers would just age slowly in my fridge. The service was...a little on the slow side. As in there was a long wait in between courses and when I ordered a second drink it never came. But at least the server realized it when it came time to pay and had removed it from the bill. read more

I picked this place for the convenient location, music and vegetarian options. The inside is industrial but also comfortable and big windows showed the pretty park outside. I ordered 6 different appetizers to share which was a big hit. Highly, highly recommend the creole cheeses curds, fried green tomatoes, sweet potatoes cakes, kung pow cauliflower. We did the chef's table at ice house and the food was all delicious, I would say I wish I could have picked and chose some of the dishes that came out but that is our fault for not asking. We came here for a celebration and the ambience with the music/band was super nice - great vibes. The most memorable dish was actually the first and second dishes, there was a hint of spice to the butternut squash soup and small crunches that were so unique. I've been to quite a few tasting menus in the twin cities and outside of Minnesota, and if I were to compare it to those ones this would not rank in the top. However, I am giving it a four stars without that comparison to be fair. The chef's table wasn't as special as they called it out to be, with the view of the kitchen being "interactive." Overall, I probably wouldn't come back for the chef's table/tasting menu but I would come back to try new foods off the menu ala carte. read more

Our evening started off well enough. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, pork belly and deviled eggs appetizers. Then it went downhill from there. Our server didn't seem thrilled to be there and it seems she was even less thrilled to serve me and my party who had travelled for 5 hours were tired, hungry and seeking a nice relaxing evening to celebrate my brother 's birthday. When told, she made no effort to recognize him in any way. The restaurant averages 3-4 tables the entire time we were seated. I Am understanding of labor challenges, but this clearly not a staffing issue. We had to flag her down to take our dinner orders. I am a person who will order anything my server is excited to recommend. She made no recommendations, offered no upsells and did not offer to take any beer, wine, cocktail or beverage orders. We had to flag her down to place orders for 4 cokes. Our cokes arrived near midway through our meals. We were hoping to enjoy a dessert, but after waiting for some time for her to check back with us, we decided it was best to leave. She was very timely to drop her check and even more-so, to see if we needed change. I should have said that I needed change back. The meals were not a great value and enjoyable for their price points, lacking in flavor and portion size. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant as long as this is the standard of service. read more

Icehouse is a hip, large bar and music venue with a chef-driven menu and a few labeled vegan options. It's fun to stop by, get a drink and sit on the patio, but the food isn't anything to write home about. The kung pow cauliflower appetizer ($15) is by far the best thing on the menu: fried cauliflower with a savory sauce, peanuts and green onions. If you like the Indo-Chinese "gobi manchurian" dish, you'll love this (if you've never had gobi manchurian, go find it at an Indian restaurant). That said, it's super expensive and about as pricey as a main dish. The red beans and rice ramen ($16) is vegan by default looks great, but didn't taste amazing, with a strange smokiness and mishmash of spices. The veggie burger ($16) can be made vegan if you omit the aioli and honey mustard. It's a rarity to find a homemade veggie burger these days, and the one here tastes fine but is also on the bland and starchy side. A couple months back, they'd give you tater tots if you asked for them ($8), even though they weren't on the menu. Then a new chef came and put an end to that. What a shame, because tater tots are hard to come by in this neighborhood. The service is friendly. I also like that you can sit outside or multiple spots inside (near the music or in another room). They also do outdoor music regularly in the courtyard they share with other businesses, but the cover charge for that is $18. I like Icehouse and appreciate that they have vegan options. I just wish they were better (and also wish they had a vegan dessert). read more

We're ready to visit again. My goodness, we had a great time! We came to Icehouse for the MN Aliveness event Dine Out For Life. We typically use the event as a reason to spend extra and try a new-to-us spot. I had heard great things about Icehouse but wasn't so sure that I was ready for dinner and live music. This inaugural visit was intentionally sans music. We will come back for the tunes, I promise! We sat outside and enjoyed an uncharacteristically pleasant (weather-wise) evening in April overlooking a well-kept green space. As other reviewers have noted, the restaurant is by no means obtrusive or flashy. Once inside, the space is amazing and historically relevant (be sure to check out the building's past!) Krissy took excellent care of us and helped us navigate the menu. While not extensive, the choices were pretty much everything we love to eat. We started with lamb nachos and a pair of craft beers (an extensive list to consider!) while pondering dinner choices. The food came out quickly and the beers evaporated, but Krissy had us covered. We ordered the scallops and the lobster BLT (check out the photos!) and enjoyed them both immensely. Every ingredient was fresh, well-prepared and SO YUMMY! I want to come back just to taste more menu items... and hear some music! My only 'meh' moment was realizing that we were assessed a 'Non-Cash Adjustment' fee of $3.60, presumably for paying with plastic. It doesn't change how I choose to pay, though I wish I had known about it up front. Still, it's not enough to knock this review down from five stars; get to Icehouse and eat well! read more

I wish I could give half stars because I would rate this 4.5. We noticed these guys were open for brunch after trying a few other nearby restaurants and being impatient with long waits. We got right in and the staff were great. We tried the Bloody Lisa (a vegetarian bloody with pickled veggies - DELISH) and the Greyhound. My drink originally was made by accident with Gin, and upon asking they remade it for me very politely. We tried the Hash and the Classic and overall really liked the food! The eggs on top of the Classic were order over easy and were almost hard yolks. This dish could benefit from slightly more gravy but the biscuits themselves were so flavorful you didn't need to smother them the way you do other places. My hash appeared small but was actually the perfect brunch portion and featured significant rich pulled pork. The poached egg here was amazing! I recommend these guys for breakfast for sure! read more

Went here for Valentine's double date last night. Our friend's wife has a gluten allergy and she picked this place. This is me first time to Icehouse. The atmosphere is quaint and they have a balcony level. The dining area seems small but they have a designated stage in the center of the room. They have live music which is unique. Since it was Valentine's Day, they had a special menu offer where you can do a four course meal for a fix price or ordered a la carte. I had the lobster bisque soup, king crab salad and the sirloin tips. Everything was tasty, flavorful and plated nicely. Portions are a little smaller and I didn't think I would be full but I was stuffed. Their cocktails are strong! Love that they have live music. The restaurant could have the heart up a little bit or have a permanent door to keep the draft out from customers coming and out. Overall, service was a little slow with our meals but water service was on point. I like the live music but then it makes it hard to have conversations because everyone has to raise their voices. Will definitely check it out again on a non holiday day to see the difference in their menu option. read more

Our server was great. Really good vibes! Five stars for him. The food was good, but kinda pricy for the portions. We had the wagyu which could've been a bit more tender, and a few more than 2 stems of broccolini woulda been nice. The whipped potatoes were really good. We also ordered the pork belly, which was delicious! It was a play of pork chops and apple sauce with the apples and pork belly over a butternut squash purée, yum! Good thing we ordered a side of fries because the portions were small. Actually, the portions are probably normal, but we were starving. The whiskey blend on the rocks was smooth and yum. My friends and I wanted to get buzzed after eating at Pimento, but we had no idea where to go. Lo and behold, all we had to do was divert our eyeballs a measly 5 feet to the left and there stood the full glory of Icehouse. Icehouse is pretty perfect for midday afternoon drinks because it has some nice outdoor patio seating. Our waitress easily convinced us to all take shots, so we each ordered a Huracan-- and let me tell you, that drink tasted like candy and nothing at all like tequila. On top of the Huracan "shots" (definitely not a shot), we ordered a couple of cocktails: Mothership Rita, Briar Rose, and Badlands. If you're a fan of sweet mixed drinks, I would recommend the Huracan and Mothership Rita. Briar Rose was a little too bitter and medicinal for my taste, but honestly everything is good after a certain point while drinking. To top it off, we ordered a Banana Foster. Pricey for the actual quality of the dish, but good nonetheless. Definitely have put this place on my list, and am looking forward to stopping by when there's live music! read more

Love the remodeled space since we were there last. Great venue to hear great music in a smaller venue. Came for a brunch gig and everyone loved the food they had. Great burrito, bowls , bacon and hash browns, and eggs. Drinks were good and atmosphere was nice. Want this venue to really succeed and it will but just need to get the staffing in rhythm with the shows and pace. I wanted to come for the accordion player but we ended up watching Dan Schwartz, who I loved equally, if not more. Check him out if you haven't heard of him! What a guitar. I had a sipping shot and cider and my boyfriend had an old fashioned. We chose from the thee course menu that icehouse calls their prix fixe. With each prix fixe ordered, you can pick any starter, main, and dessert for $40. The food was absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD. I am drooling thinking about all of it. I was impressed! All four of us loved our drinks, food and dessert. Our server was extremely articulate and professional. The guitar music playing on the nearby stage was a perfect addition to the celebration of a friend's birthday we were having. We all decided on the Prix Fixe for $45 which was a starter, a main and a dessert. My flatbread starter could have been a meal all alone. No joke. Its flavors were amazing! I tried husbo's endive which was also to die for! I had the Skuna Bay Salmon main which was perfectly done. The almond cake with passion fruit and coconut ice cream was a terrific treat! I didn't mention the drinks, but the "sipping shots" were big enough to be called a drink. I had the "Keyser Soze" which was lovely, and enough tequila... I am a little person so... I always have a good time and the food is delicious. I leave feeling like, "whoohoo! as good as it gets!" Ice House has one of my favorite tasting menus. I mean, it's always different, but it's good every time and probably the most affordable I've had. $35 for a 5 course and $50 for a 10 (TEN) course meal. One of these days I'll do the 10 course, but I'm already so full after 5... and I can eat! There's always a bonus bite at the beginning of the courses and it's always delicious. After that, the menu progresses with beautifully plated veggies (and sometimes edible flowers), deeeeeelicious fish, then more substantial portions like pork belly or beef brisket, finished with a fancy and intricate dessert. Everything is plated like art. Importantly, the service is impeccable. They have a limited number of seats for the tasting menus, so the staff shepherding you through the night gives you their full attention the entire time. If you aren't in the mood for such an involved 1.5-2 hour dining experience, they also have their regular menu full of delicious dishes. Additionally, Ice House is a nice venue for music and performances. I love the intimate and candle lit space that allows you to be up close with the artists.
