My fiancé and I had a coupon to Icehouse from our Uptown magazine and we're coming to the Eat Street area anyway to stop by Tilt. We've lived in Uptown together for almost 3 years and somehow haven't made it over so we figured tonight was as good as ever to come by. We were seated instantly (though we made a reservation on Open Table for some extra rewards points) and in the back towards large windows for natural light. I'm not sure if they have live music tonight but we passed a stage to get to our seats. Our server, Tricia, greeted us promptly and was very friendly. We looked over the drink list and ended up ordering a bottle of Pinot noir and started with some Kung Pow Cauliflower, a tasty blend of slightly crunchy cauliflower with a glaze of chili peanut oil, peanuts, and scallions. Highly recommend this as a veggie starter with a slight kick. My fiancé ordered the pork belly and LOVED it. The pork was very tender and the crispy beans flavorful. He was a little surprised by how small the plate looked at first but it ended up being a great portion size. I ordered the large potato gnocchi with an addition of pork belly for some extra protein. Honestly, with the size of the cauliflower starter I should have ordered the small and that would have been the perfect size. I'm a huge fan of gnocchi but was disappointed in theirs. It was honestly more like French fries than a pasta dish - and yes, I know gnocchi has potato but the amount of potato in this was incredibly rich. We were also caught a bit off guard when we went to lay and found that they charge you extra to use your credit card. I'm not sure if it's a flat fee or a percentage but either way that's a cost you should be absorbing when you're already paying $90 for a meal for 2. First review of 2017: We came here for happy hour. It is kind of nice to have a section for HH people. It is in the back room filled with big windows which I love. The atmosphere was quiet around 2:30pm because people are still at work and it is subzero temperature outside, so no one really want to come out. (LOL) Our server was very nice. I had a veggie burger with fries. It was very delicious, the next day I tried to make one myself. The fries was super good especially when dipped in ketchup mixed with hot sauce. According to my friend the mac and cheese tasted very good as well. We ordered a glass of Rose and one of their specialty cocktails. Overall experience was very good. Had a really great time here! Came in on a Saturday morning and got to enjoy a live jazz band performing during our brunch which really enhanced our dining experience. I ordered the quiche and am still dreaming about it. It was very thick and firm but at the same time light and fluffy. Seasonal greens were also amazing. Wow. I could eat here every night if my waist line never grew, but my wallet always did. I came here with a group of eight with no reservations. Luckily for us they had a large group not show up and we ended up at the chefs table. Which was this grand little private dinning area where we could see all of the action. I felt fancy. In fact the whole place, with its decor, made me feel a bit grand and fancy. This was our second stop for food for the night so we ordered a bunch of small items to share. Parsnip confit, sweetbread carbonara, dry rub buffalo wings, chorizo empanadas, broccolini, Ploughman's platter (smoked meats, fish & other savory bits), dark chocolate panna cotta, and salted caramel macaron. Holy shit everything was good. I also had an old fashion, and they definitely did that thing justice, alcohol soaked cherries and all. The highlights, or must order items, were the parsnip confit, sweetbread carbonara, Ploughman's platter, and salted caramel macaron. There's so much right about these dishes I can't even get into it, just trust me. If you're an adventurous eater, you'll be very happy. The macarons were hands down BEST dessert I've had in a long time. Creamy, silky, refreshing, sweet with a hint of savory, decadent, life changing. I'd climb a snake infested mountain for these. So I regretfully did not get to see a show during my short meal here, so this review will focus on the food and drinks offered during happy hour, both of which were phenomenal! I tried the pastrami egg sandwich with a side of fries and a hard cider, all of which was delicious and fairly large portion considering the price. I found the house made ketchup a really nice touch that complimented the French fries perfectly. The stools at the bar are positioned well for watching the stage and it does seem that they have regular shows which could prove interesting for a night out on the town, whether it's pre post or during dinner! Overall I really enjoyed my time at the Icehouse and would recommend people check it out, though it seems parking can be a bit hard to manage, so be prepared to walk a little! read more

It was a good time! The staff was sweet and served us great food! Whenever we arrived we were directed to the bar and got drinks. (We arrived early for our reservation and wanted to get drink before hand) shortly after getting our drinks our table was ready! I had the Pastrami & Egg sandwich - it was excellent! Sunday Funday/date day with the hubby and we decided to try the brunch at Icehouse. What a great atmosphere and live music too! Reminds me of a jazz club with the way the stage is set up with seating around it. There is an upstairs and didn't realize the seating went way far back into a separate dining space (won't be able to see the stage though). The menu looked amazing and it was hard to decide on what we wanted, but we figured it out. What sold me on coming here first were the pictures I saw on Yelp! the amazing pictures of their Homer Bloody Mary, wow a donut on top??? I had to try it and it did not disappoint. Donut was crispy, hot and yummy and the bloody mary had the right amount of spice and flavor that I like. For food we ended up ordering the savory éclair, duck brioche, garlic and parmesan chicken wings and for dessert the salted caramel macaroon ice cream sandwiches (we actually forgot to order, asked for our bill and then had to order and get a new bill). Where do I start??? The savory éclair had pork belly in a éclair shell with a pastry cream and it was the right amount of sweet and savory. Loved it!! I love my pork belly and I love the pastry part that eclairs are made of and it was such a complement to the dish for sure. The duck brioche was pretty rich but great flavor as well. You get a bit of fois gras as well. My husband's favorite were the garlic and parmesan wings. They were cooked to perfection and the sauce was great!! And finally...those macaroons..we were so full but I will always have room for those, perfect sized cookies, think of a perfect macaroon cookie..you get the top crunch but it should be chewy inside and these were perfect and it was great add to have the ice cream in the middle read more

My hair still smells awful hours later - apps were delivered before we had any utensils or drinks - cheese curds were greasy, soggy, and clumped together - server was distracted and slow We ended up finishing our drinks and leaving to find dinner elsewhere on Eat Street. I had heard about this restaurant prior to making my reservation. But I was honestly blown away by the entire experience. The ambiance here is cozy, with a very open concept that still kept the seating arrangement private for the guests. The food was absolutely bursting with flavor that was consistent all the way to desert. We had the Creol Trio and the Mac and cheese as entrees, both of which I HIGHLY recommend. The service we had absolutely wonderful, especially with our server, Paige who really ellevated the experience for us and made it that much more special. Where the stage was located, booths, tables, standing bar rail, and upstairs tables, I dug the vibe of the place before the music even started. Our group of six snagged a booth, and cover was $8 (I find any live, local music under $10 is a steal). Music seemed a tad loud to start but evened out a bit once it filled up. Our server was excellent; my water was kept filled and my pint glass never empty for long. Didn't try food. But the experience was fantastic. I will be back, and I generally don't like dealing with Uptown. read more

We walked in at 6:15 without a reservation...and though there were at least a dozen open tables around the stage, they say us in the backroom. Looking at OpenTable, I could have made a reservation at the same time and gotten a better table?!? The beer selection is just okay, but the main courses were really really good, albite pricey. I had the Cornish hens and my girlfriend had recommended sirloin. We were quite impressed. After we finished, we were given the dessert menu. She was excited about the salted caramel macarons. And that's too bad, because they were awful. Dreadfully awful. They were literally frozen and could chip a tooth. We didn't finish them and although we complained to our server, she didn't comp anything. Not okay guys. How is the main course so good but the dessert so bad? And why didn't we get better seating when there was so many open tables? read more

Not sure what is going on at Icehouse. It's been one of my favorite go-to restaurants/bars/music venues for many years. As a Whittier resident, I loved introducing folks to Icehouse. I was really worried that it wouldn't survive the pandemic. It has, but at what cost? It is definitely not the same. It seems to be going through some sort of identity crisis. They've rearranged the main dining area and relocated the bar. The front entry on Nicollet is no longer in use and looks like a vacant storefront. We stopped by for lunch a few days ago and they had pulled out all the booth seating in the back, which explains why the hostess was perplexed about what to do with us. We ended up sitting at the bar in the back without anyone acknowledging our presence. There was a lot of activity, but none of it seemed to do with serving food. We didn't stay. I hate to say that I will most likely not go back. I've tried to find some info online about what is going on and why all the changes, but no luck. The old Icehouse was a classic. Not sure what this new iteration is, but I don't recommend it. read more

I'm not really sure why I haven't heard praises of Icehouse all over Minneapolis. It's seriously underrated-- as a restaurant, bar, and music venue. While it's hard to choose a favorite element, I think the cocktail menu might be mine. There are plenty of places to get wacky drinks around the Cities but I think Icehouse does an excellent job of blending novelty and taste. And yes, the drinks aren't the cheapest, but you can tell that the bartenders really put thought into their craft and are willing to take preferences into account when possible. Their non-alcoholic drinks are good, too. Then there's the music venue. This is a wonderful place to see local musicians perform -- small enough to feel intimate but large enough to accommodate dancing and up and coming performers on national tours. And the food. Fries are in my top 10 in Minneapolis and go well with all the drinks. This was also the site of my first chicken wing--now I'm a convert and will eat all wings, but it's been hard to find some that are better than the ones here. And did I mention the tasting menu? I recommend it to all my friends who are interested in ~serious food.~ It's a fantastic value and a great way to try a lot of flavorful dishes in an approachable and intimate setting. The only downside I've experienced here is occasionally there are super rowdy groups around (Bachelorette parties and what not) but I guess that's the risk you take when you hang out in trendy neighborhoods and bars. read more

A very affordable 10-course tasting menu at $40! You can't beat that and the food is like from the former La Belle Vie restaurant in Minneapolis. OMG, food was AMAAZING!! I've been meaning to try this place out ever since a picture of the bloody homer showed up on my news feed. I didn't get to try the bloody homer since I went for dinner but I definitely plan on going back for brunch to try it! I started off with the korean petite ribeye. Ribeye was amazing although our server did not ask how I wanted my ribeye cooked. It did come out pretty rare, which i'm okay with it since I like my meat on the rare side! If you are not a fan of rare/medium rare beef, make sure you let your server know who you want your beef cooked! It came with a kimchi pancake that didn't really have any kimchi flavor but the gochujang sauce added great flavor to it. It also came with crispy cauliflower, which was delicious as well. It definitely was crispy!! My friend had the icehouse burger, which comes with a truffle bordelaise sauce poured on top of the burger at your table. I had a bite of my friend's burger and it was sooo good!! The sauce can make the bun soggy pretty quick so if that's a hot button for you, just gobble it down super fast! Now onto dessert! We split a gooey bourbon cake and the salty caramel macarons. The gooey bourbon cake is bourbon butter cake, cream cheese custard, green apple sorbet, and cider toffee sauce. This dessert is beyond delicious and everyone needs to get this when they come here! The salty caramel macarons has 3 giant macarons in one order and they were delicious as well but definitely not in the same class as the gooey bourbon cake. The only "issue" I had was that this place utilizes phones or phone-like tech to input your orders. So the first time our server approached, he just stared down at his phone and was punching stuff in while asking us questions. I was uncertain whether he was messing with his personal phone or if it was work related. Obviously figured out throughout the meal that, that is how they put in orders. Would of been nice to have servers point that out maybe during the initial introduction! read more

Our family was visiting Minneapolis and found Icehouse on Yelp. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The flavor combinations were fresh, the presentation was beautiful, the portion sizes were just right, and everything tasted so yummy. The bonus was the music. But when you're sitting in the restaurant, it's clear that the music was not an afterthought. Honestly, we did not expect to find such fantastic food at a location where music is obviously the focus. We tried the BBQ Shrimp, and Mushroom Ravioli starters; the Poached Salmon, Veal Scallopini, Ahi Tuna, Montel Chicken Kiev, and Mushroom Pot Pie main dishes; and the Gooey Chocolate Cake and Rhubarb Crisp desserts, plus a Little Richie mixed drink. I recommend each one, but the salmon was exceptional, the mushroom ravioli was really tasty, and the chicken Kiev was as much a feast for the eyes as for the stomach. read more

I was so excited by Annie D.'s review of this place yesterday that I knew I had to go here, stat. So, Leah G. and I headed here right after the Elite party yesterday so we could get our hands on some of those amazing-sounding drinks. When we arrived, we saw that there was a $5 cover for a jazz artist that was playing tonight, but the hosts told us they wouldn't actually charge a cover until 9:30, and if we were still there by then, they'd just charge us the $5 on our bill, which I think is a very reasonable practice. We were seated in the upper level, which gives a great view of the stage below. I can't wait to see a show here...it's perfectly intimate without being overly clustered. I like that. Our waiter was quick to attend to us, and was awfully nice. Note: they do all their ordering on iPhones, so they aren't texting while you give them their order! We ordered the beet salad and the bacon and green chile burger and just split them both. SO tasty. The beet salad came with two delicious deviled eggs, sweet beets, some arugula, and a nice thick bacon. The burger was also excellent-very flavorful and big enough to share. To drink, I ordered the La Samba, which was an orange-cinnamon caipirinha. It was served in a large shot glass for $5, and the flavor was so warm and spicy I can't wait to try it again. We finished with the rhubarb pie, which was a perfect ending to our meal. We both decided that we absolutely need to go back, and with the prices, we absolutely can afford to.
