I come here often with my husband. I love sushi and have had it many different places and this place is hands down the best in the area for it. The ingredients always taste and feel very fresh, the proportion of rice to fish is always perfect and it's very easy to eat with chopsticks and doesn't fall apart. This is always my first choice any time I'm in the mood for sushi, the top quality has proven to be very consistent! I would say the Hamachi Nigri and Romantic Roll are probably my favorites, but I really enjoy exploring their menu too since everything is so good. My husband loves the Sweet Potato Roll best (: The service is always great. We are a little more on the shy and quiet side but every time we go, the people there are super kind, friendly, attentive and always have a greeting and a goodbye. It really makes you feel valued. Ichiban was on my list to visit for a long time. We decided to check out their Titanic boat and compare it to those we've had at other places. On Sunday around seven, the restaurant was practically empty. Sushi boats typically contain sashimi, nigiri, and at least two special rolls selected by the chef. The Titanic at Ichiban comes with a Christmas Roll (spicy crunchy tuna, avocado, red tobiko) and a Honado Roll (tempura fried roll with spicy tuna, avocado, cream cheese). We asked whether it's possible to have a roll without cream cheese. It turned out we couldn't substitute the Honado Roll. So, we asked just to omit the cream cheese. A while later, our server came back with a proposal: for an extra charge, we could choose any other roll we wanted. By that time, we decided to have the original version of the Honado Roll with cream cheese. So, there was a bit of a hitch right at the start. With the Titanic boat, you choose between a miso soup or a salad. The soup was too salty but generally tasty. Now, very briefly about the sushi itself. We enjoyed almost everything. The Christmas Roll was very good. The salmon was superb. The fried Honado Roll came without the cream cheese, and I thought it was the least tasty sushi roll I have ever had. The shrimp nigiri were definitely a disappointment as well. Our server was pleasant and tried to be helpful from the beginning. Later, strangely, she came over to our table right in the middle of our conversation, while we were still enjoying our meal, and asked if we needed a container for leftovers. Leftovers?! I immediately thought the restaurant was about to close and that we had overstayed our welcome, but that wasn't the case. She brought us the bill right after that, even though we hadn't asked for it yet. So, for some reason, she simply tried to speed up our exit. I'm sure Ichiban serves very good food (we saw takeouts being prepared), but I won't be going back soon, definitely not for a Titanic. One more thing, and it's definitely a downer. We received twelve pieces of nigiri instead of fourteen. I only noticed it later, while looking through the photos. read more

First time here, and we'll definitely be back. We got the clear mushroom soup. It was just ok. Also the fried dumplings. I prefer a sesame ginger dip, but I love dumplings, so it still satisfied my dumpling craving. Tons of different rolls. We had the Hot Mama, Snow Roll and crunchy tuna with tobiko. The tempura in a roll is quite good...crunchy. Who doesn't like crunchy? What we figured out is that the regular roll was just as good as the specialty rolls. Good not great. That's my personal review. I can't speak to service or ambiance because we did takeout. The consumer of the other half of this meal would be raving about both the salads and the sushi but I just didn't feel the same and this is my account so I'm giving it a 4 for his sake but if I was eating alone I would probably give it a 3. We ordered via Doordash a few months ago and were pleasantly surprised. I have gotten their 3 roll lunch specials (only available during weekdays) a few times over the years and they were always good, but this is the first time we ordered more than just maki (sushi rolls). In addition to the usual crunchy spicy crab rolls, we also got some king crab nigiri and they were delicious! There were some salmon nigiri and a spider roll (soft shell crab). My husband also tried their tonkatsu (breaded, deep fried pork cutlet). It's one of his favorite Japanese dishes and he loves it with curry sauce on top. Unfortunately Ichiban didn't have that, so he tried it with the regular tonkatsu sauce. He didn't love it and would likely never order it again, but that's not because they didn't do a good job making it, he just prefers to have it with curry sauce like how I make it (or Sato on Elmwood also makes it). We would order from Ichiban again, but probably pick it up ourselves because all the fees being charged by these delivery services are getting to be a bit crazy. read more

Love this place! They seem to have some of the freshest rolls and seafood! Their menu is also extensive and creative :) My favorite rolls are sunflower, ichiban, and fire. I also like their cucumber salad, miso soup and crab wontons. Staff are always friendly. Sometimes they can get very busy so plan ahead especially for takeout (I primarily get takeout.). After somewhere I used to like stopped selling my favourite roll, I decided to try out a few other places, and now the Tiger Roll from Ichiban is my new favourite. It has a great combination of flavours and textures, with a nice combo of sauces, and looks interesting too with its green and white stripes. I came here after seeing vegans sharing photos on social media, so I'm surprised there are no Yelp reviews specifically addressing vegan options. I'm happy to report we had a delicious boatload of vegan sushi! At first glance, I couldn't tell from the menu what all the fuss was about. I had to go back to the WNY Vegans Facebook to see if people said what they ordered. Our sever checked on us before I had it all sorted out so I explained that we were vegetarians trying to figure out what everyone else gets. She helpfully directed out attention to every section with veg options- appetizers, rolls, teriyaki, noodles, etc. The veggies dinner is miso soup or garden salad; an avocado, asparagus, cucumber roll; and 7 assorted pieces of nigiri with seaweed belts holding the veggies onto their bed of rice: kampyo (dried gourd), asparagus, cucumber, oshinko (pickled radish) avocado, carrot, and mushroom. Though not on the menu, these nigiri can be ordered a la carte. The kampyo is the star of the bunch but all were good. The veggie rolls don't have descriptions, so I will tell you that the avocado roll and asparagus roll are maki rolls, seaweed on the outside with rice and ingredient inside. Those were each $3.50 for 6 rolls. The tempura sweet potato roll and the avocado peanut roll are uramaki, rice on the outside with seaweed wrapped around the ingredients in the center. Both those rolls came with a sauce on top and both those rolls were delicious! We also ordered inari sushi, a tofu skin pocket with warm rice inside. Delicious! Finally, we ordered our own custom hand rolls, also known as temaki. There were no vegan ones on the menu but I ordered a sweet potato and avocado. The hand rolls were AMAZING. I just love hand rolls and these were perfectly executed - generous portion of warm crispy sweet potato, a fan of avocado slices, all on a bed of rice wrapped in a cone of seaweed. When we go our receipt, it looked as if the sweet potato hand roll is regular item ($4) and the avocado is a $1 add on. Everything came served on an impressive wooden boat (except the forgotten inari sushi which came later after we asked about them.) It was such a fun and impressive presentation. It was also plenty of food for two hungry people. While everything was delicious, the standouts were the avocado peanut roll and the hand rolls with honorable mentions to the inari sushi and kampyo nigiri. The list of specialty rolls has one veg options which we forgot to order: The St. Patrick Roll is cucumber and seaweed salad in a roll topped with avocado. You can also ask to have other rolls modified with substitutions including brown rice. This place is quite close to the McKinley Mall movie theatre, so you can balance out your sushi splurge with a $2.50 movie for a reasonably priced night out. read more

Have been here twice and both times I have been impressed with both the service and the quality of food. I can never choose between sushi and Rice/noodles because both are done perfectly. My father, who is not so adventurous, got the teriyaki beef entree with white rice and veggies ($16) and was full of compliments with each bite. (steak was tender and served medium) I took advantage of one of the specials and got the cowboy roll ($16) sushi filled with spicy crab, cream cheese, and rare filet on top with some wasabi mayo! I've been here a few times. Today my friend asked me to go here because she never been before and I'm glad we did because today was exceptionally good. I ordered rocky roll sushi, my friend ordered phoenix roll sushi . It was special roll sushi menu. They were so delicious. Rocky roll was fried oysters inside and salmon and lemon on top. Visually beautiful and the combination taste very amazing. The phoenix roll is fried chicken inside with spicy crabmeat and crunch on top. We also ordered gyoza as an appetizer. This has quickly become our go-to place several times a month. If you're vegan/vegetarian you can still enjoy sushi! Staff is really helpful. And the tea tastes great now and is promptly refilled! Sweet potato roll, AAC, miso, vegetable gyoza are all safe to eat. I also enjoy ordering the tempura soba stir fry- just ask for all veggies instead of the shrimp they usually give you in the tempura portion. If you're weary of fish sauce, just mention that to the server. Original Review: We love going here for sushi. I didn't know this place existed until this summer. Servers are always very attentive and the sushi never disappoints. We have been there enough to recognize the music they play- just like the last poster mentioned. What a gem inside a strip mall! The people here are super nice and accommodating; service is excellent; parking is free and easy; prices are reasonable; portions are generous. What more can you ask for? My husband and I had the sashimi platter, a couple of rolls (yellowtail scallion and salmon avocado), miso soup and the avocado tofu salad.
