Favorite place for sushi in Poughkeepsie. My family has been going there for at least 10 years. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. The family that owns the restaurant is so sweet and is a pleasure to see. The restaurant is a bit small but that's what makes it so cozy and intimate. Boy, I am sorry to have to do this -- but the past few trips to Ichiban have been borderline dreadful. Not too long ago they shifted to an AYCE option, and since doing so the food quality has suffered significantly. I think I've made my last trip to Ichiban. Really disappointed. read more

i was very excited to fall upon Ichiban on yelp.. I'm always a little hesitant bout new sushi joints but it got such great reviews. The reviews were so right ! The setting is relaxed and casual, nothing to cramped like some places can be.The green tea was authentic, and the service was friendly. We had a great special app (fried spicy tuna YUM), and the sushi and rolls were fresh and creative. Menu has a lot of fun rolls, cant wait to go back and try some diff ones! read more

The place is small and cramped. You would think having so few tables, the service would be good. Not the case. Slow and inconsiderate to say the least. Bubble tea was watered down and had no tapioca pearls. You would like to think the waitress would mention it instead of serving a bubble tea without the bubbles. The food was all brought at once instead of bringing the appetizer first. Overall, poor experience. On top of everything. The owner is just as inconsiderate as the staff. I had a coupon for buy one entree and get a second one free (up to $15.00). It was lunch when we went in and were seated. There were no other diners at the time (1pm). I showed the server the coupon and she said that it was for dinner only. I said that the coupon didn't specify that lunch was excluded. She said that the word entree means dinner only. Anyway we got up and left and will not return. I probably should have asked to speak to a manager, but I didn't bother. Even if it did exclude lunch, they should have honored the coupon if we ordered off the dinner menu. That would have been fine. Excellent service. Extensive menu of sushi rolls, many are quite creative and yummy. My favorites are the comet, Manhattan and the Pleasant Valley. Very nice presentation. My significant other and I love a lot of sushi, so the all you can eat option is fantastic. Most of the time they have uni and it is always very good. If you are an uni fan, you know that many places shy away from carrying uni and that it is easy for uni to go bad. So finding a place with good and reliable uni is a treat. My only criticism is the tight quarters. But I am willing to put up with that for the food and service and the fact that it might lose some of its charm if it moved to more spacious accommodations. read more

My husband and I were so excited to try this restaurant, but we were so disappointed in Ichiban. My husband ordered the Chicken Katsu-don, just to get the Tempura Chicken Katsu (basically chicken teriyaki). We were so confused, as you can imagine, but he did eat it. It was okay, though a little dry. My 'spicy' Maki combo, which was not spicy, was just like every roll I've ever eaten anywhere. In the end we were charged for the Chicken Katsu-don, and though it was the same price, he was not served what he ordered. We will not be returning, not because of the food (which was mediocre) but because we can go to any other sushi place and get better service. My husband even pointed on the menu the dish he wanted and your server wrote down the right dish, so I'm not sure where the misunderstanding came from but she should have realized when she saw the dish that it was wrong and she still brought it out and let us eat the wrong food. Not worth the energy to drive the 15 minutes just to get the wrong food. read more
