12/26/2023 - Chicken Katsu which comes with sauce, rice, lettuce, and lemon. All of it was quite tasty.

Tokyo Tavern is still a wonderful stop in Pleasant Valley, as we continue to do so. We're thrilled with the service, food, drinks, and also the chats we have with the workers. Being a regular will develop a close relationship with them, which is key. Some days and nights, tables can be filled up -- keeping in mind, that a reservation can sure come and handy, and they'll reserve it as well, even for a big party. Something that drew to my attention during the last couple of visits, was the portions have gotten smaller. A bit of a turnoff, but I still enjoy their food very much. It's worth making a stop, even not living in PV.

**updated** Tokyo Tavern is my husband and I's favorite place to easy sushi & have lunch dates. The food is always delicious, the owners are very sweet, and the atmosphere is calming.

The place itself is pretty small and cozy like having a meal at home, but still enough room so you have space. So the service was pretty nice, the lady that works here was so friendly and sweet and sure greeted locals and out of Townes like myself like an old friend stoping by. Plus refilling my drink without me asking was really awesome too. Hah. The BBQ squid app was very tasty, tender and definitely flavorful bathed in sauce, if anything I wish the tentacles were not as grilled as much, since they ended up being crispy and charred. Philadelphia roll, nothing to otherwise than great and equal portions of cheese, salmon and avocado. For the omg roll, the seared tuna and wasabi mayo with scallions really made roll great, since added a spicy pow to the salty roll, the spicy yellow crushed filling was great, but kind of wish there was not tempura crunch in the middle with yellowtail mix since the rolls fell apart since crunchy just fell out. Overall if you want sushi and a quite cozy place to eat away from crowds come here.

    Our sushi, ready to go

We have ordered sushi to go from Tokyo Tavern for 20 years, and the sushi is always fantastic! We also ordered a hibachi chicken, which hit the spot!!

Amazing food with amazing service and ambience and amazingly welcoming owners. These are just a few of our favorite dishes. Higly recommend trying anything off the menu, and you will not be disappointed!! Me and my husband have been coming here for a long time, and we simply love the place and the owners.

We stopped for lunch here with my brother and his wife. We started with the dumplings as an appetizer and they were delicious. Hubby got the 3-roll special for lunch which was around $15 which was a mighty tasty deal. I ate all the spicy tuna! Very good. I shared my chicken udon noodles. The noodles were extra thick (I'm not complaining) but the sauce needed a little more flavor. I still ate the whole thing. The Bento box was also good. I tried the steak and it was good...a little chewy but good. The shrimp dumplings looked so good. Never got to taste them tho...I guess brothers still don't want to share ha ha. Seriously, by the end of lunch nothing was left! The salmon teriyaki was also very good. It had a nice kick. The ambiance is not but the service was great. The food came out quickly and it was a great time.

Tokyo Tavern is hands-down the best Sushi Restaraunt in Dutchess County...and maybe even the entire Hudson Valley. I lived in Manhattan for 20 years, and I can say with confidence that Tokyo Tavern bests 95%+ of the sushi restaurants in NYC. So being the best in the Hudson Valley is actually a layup in that context! I have been to Japan, and Tokyo Tavern holds its own even amongst the best sushi restaurants in Tokyo and Kyoto. Be sure to try the Seafood Soup, with generous portions of Shrimp, Crabmeat, Scallops, a fantastic home made broth, and vegetable goodies to boot. The fish is phenomenal, and the reason why is because Tokyo Tavern does not use the distributors that all of the other sushi joints in the HV use - the owner personally goes down to the Seaport in Manhattan for all of the fish served at Tokyo Tavern. Tokyo Tavern was actually open for over 15 years in Manhattan (Midtown East), so it's no wonder that it is far better than anything else in the HV. Competition makes things good, and you will notice the difference! Be sure to ask the chef about any specials as they often have some hidden gems on offer. I don't eat rolls because I prefer sushi and sashimi, so I can't personally vouch for those, but I've seen many a platter of sushi rolls come out of the kitchen and they look fantastic! I really should try a roll sometime, but the sushi and sashimi is so good that I just stick with what I love. The decor is simple traditional Japanese style. But let's be honest - you're coming here for the fish! Highly Recommended!

The best restaurant in the Pleasant Valley/Washington Hollow area. You can tell the owner/chefs really care about the food quality, its presentation and your experience as a diner.

Kind of a hole in the wall. Clean enough and the food was good, but the portions were small for the price. Worth trying, at least once.

I have pretty high standards when it comes to sushi, and Bonsai easily meets (and often exceeds) them every time. Their lunch special is an unbeatable deal -- for just $13 you get soup, salad, and three rolls. It's generous, delicious, and always satisfying. Whether dining in or grabbing takeout, Bonsai is one of those local spots that makes you feel lucky to have it nearby.

Service is always hit and miss here but better than bonsai to where you usually get RUDE service. The omen was my own home, so no complaints here. The sushi was fresh. Our pic was coconut mango rolls, which are wrapped in rice paper instead of Nori, eel, avocado, rolls, and California mango, which I had never had before. Most of this was appealing to my daughter and she really enjoyed it. I was in the mood for some tempura so we had the appetizer order. Don't bother with a temporary here. It is heavy and my guess is that they overuse the oil everything looked gray. Sorry I did not take pictures. She was way too hungry for that. All in all, given that this set us back about $50 plus tip and the tempera was subpar, they score 3 today.

It's a huge space with a lot of room for regular and hibachi tables, with modern decor. Service is very friendly and consistent which is not always the case with these kinds of places. They had an issue with one of the vents while we were here, however they quickly fixed it. Just needed to leave the back door open for a bit. Drinks were on the sugary side which is typical; my mai thai was good however I couldn't do 2. Soup and salad were good. Chef was one of the better hibachi chefs I've gotten. Wish they flipped shrimp instead of veggies for an appetizer, but hey, recession. More importantly than the presentation and show (which was good), they did a really good job with the food. Steak was perfectly cool if a bit over seasoned. Scallops were seared better than I've had at a lot of fancier restaurants. Massive portions too when the veggies, noodles and rice were factored in too. Of course my food got switched at home, and I got a fuckton of chicken instead of my steak. I mourned this, however will survive to return again.
