My family of 3 ate at this location tonight and I am beyond disappointed by our experience. First: my husband and myself ordered the dinner for two and a filet minion for our teenager. The cook split one small steak and one small chicken breast between me and my husband. We all got at most 1/2 cup of rice and 1/2 a cup of vegetables. The portions were small child sized. We have ordered this in the past and know how much food to expect and we got at most half of what we were supposed to get. Then, the cook burned the eggs put them in the rice anyway. The waitress didn't offer to refill mine or my teenagers drink and we didn't get the sherbet that we are supposed to get. The chicken was full of charred pieces of burnt food. It was terrible. All I could taste was char on the 4 bites of chicken that I had. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a Japanese hibachi restaurant. read more

Another restaurant that my fellow Yelpers reviewed correctly. Listen to the reviews, thats the only warning I have. The first thing the waiter said to us, " we are busy and short staffed tonight'. I did appreciate the honesty. We should have left, but I had a senior citizen with me. The wait was extremely long for table service on a Saturday night. Now the unfortunate part about the food. The absolute worst Asian microwave food I have ever eaten. Yes, the meat tasted as if they warmed or cooked via microwave. Our food had a rubbery greasy taste. The positive part, the waiter was very attentive and kind. It wasn't his fault that this place is mismanaged. We tipped him properly and vowed never to return. Wasted over $80 of our hard earned money. The sad part this place had a line literally out the door. " When you know better you do better". We got are food but my son didn't get his food right he diabetes and his blood sugar was low and he started to feel sick and he got lightheaded and when we told them that it was wrong they took it back and didn't change it and it took 30 minute for them and go get it and when they did it was the same thing and the food was burnt it was the worse thing I have ever had do not recommend. read more

I don't know why I keep going to Japanese Hibachi, but they use so much butter to make the food taste better. You can put butter and a touch of salt on cardboard, and someone will eat it. read more

Came in with the family late on a Saturday (Party of six) and sat at the hibachi tables. These folks were very accommodating. The food was really good and the chef was entertaining. They have a dinner for two that includes steak, chicken, and shrimp. These included a salad, soup, fried rice, vegetables, hashbrowns (this was unexpected), and ice cream. The soup really wasn't that great, but I've never cared for "this" soup at any chop chop place. Overall they were very good, and we'll be back. read more

If there were a zero star review this place would deserve it! Absolutely the worst place to eat in Rome, GA. They charge an 18% automatic gratuity for 5ppl. So if you are a family of 5, tough luck! They charge an automatic $8 fee for using a credit card?? The food was over cooked, the Asian soup was chicken bouillon and not Asian at all. The ginger dressing salad, will not even go there as to how awful it was and not a ginger salad dressing. Server was rude, didn't even bother to introduce himself, just "What so you want to drink" request. Ichiban is the best Japanese restaurant in Rome! The teriyaki chicken is delicious and so is the fried California roll. The only thing I don't like is the ginger dressing. I wish the ginger dressing was better, but other than that everything here is amazing. Ichiban is much better than Sumo's and Blue Fin. read more

There wasn't anything majorly wrong with our meal, but nothing overly good either. My "yummmm" moment was the sherbet at the end. Our server, Ashleigh, was phenomenal in every way!!! The restaurant was clean and well appointed. Our food was prompt and the portions were what you would expect. My chicken was dry and over cooked, yet still found a way to be greasy. My date's steak was amazing! The yummy yummy sauce was good, but the ginger sauce also doubled as the ginger dressing was not as good as you would expect from a grocery store takeout. We did not have sushi so I cannot review that. My date said it was one of his top 20 restaurants, but he has not had much Japanese food! Second visit. The hostess was cold and distant. Her English is broken and in need of help. She was very demanding. The hibachi tables are very crowded, seating 5 where 4 should be seated. Our soup was cold not even warm. Our dining area was cold while the other was warmer than I like. Our server apologized repeatedly about how sorry she was that the service was so bad, but she added an 18% tip to our bills. The menu stated that was done on parties of 6 or more but we had 2 parties of 3!!! The ginger dressing was oily? Bad cuts of meat, very fatty. Dipping sauces were bland. Chicken was over cooked. Really disappointed in the service the waitress didn't know who ordered what or even what sushi roll was what. Brought out rolls and called them by the wrong name so the wrong people got them one of our friends was a first time sushi eater and the server gave her roll away as a different roll then when we expressed our dislike the server act like it was our fault the wrong person ate the wrong roll. I will never try that place again they wouldn't even replace the rolls they gave away so the 1st timer could eat what she wanted to try. Not a good experience. read more

We showed up about 45 min before they closed for lunch and were finished before their closing time so I don't know if her attitude was because of us coming in so late or bc she hates her life but that's not my Problem. My whole party ordered steak hibachi MED RARE...... we get our food and mine was overcooked but still edible and everyone else's were literally SO BURNT that they could barely chew it. What makes it WORSE is that they put the burnt ends down on the plate so I couldn't see until we started to eat our food it's like they knew they were serving us overcooked food. Now I understand things happen and mistakes happen but when we approached our server about taking JUST THE STEAK OFF she took my WHOLE PLATE even though I still wanted the rice. Then she said well we can take this off your bill BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR TWO SIDES OF RICE WHICH I DIDNT GET TO EAT BECAUSE THEY TOOK MY PLATE AWAY???!!!?? LOL WTF IS THAT????? THEN SHE SAID YOUR PLATE IS JUST SITTING BACK THERE ON THE LINE ILL JUST GO GET IT?!!??! Hmmm do I want the food you just took from me that I complained about before you took it back out of my Line of sight??? ABSOLUTELY NOT Not to mention..... when the server took our food back to the kitchen we could literally hear talking about us. Super unprofessional. If you're gunna talk about your customers at least wait until we leave or lower your damn voice. ALSO the water tasted like toilet water and needs some serious help. My girlfriend and I came here on a weekday night and it was reasonably full. The prices were average for Japanese and the customer service was pretty good. We sat at the hibachi grill and got a great show along with the typical soup, salad and entree. The filet we had was not very tender but the rest of the meal was excellent. In Rome for the airshow and went in for the first time. Right away the hostess was very accommodating to my family. We didn't have to wait at all for a table or to sit around the grill. We ordered shrimp and steak with a side of vegetables - all excellent and the chef kept us well entertained with the classic flip-into-your-mouth pieces and onion volcano. The downside of Ichiban was is was pretty loud so if you're going for a date or quiet evening, sit in the restaurant part, not at the grill. read more

Absolutely love this place. My boyfriend and I went to eat there last weekend and it was great. we were seated quickly , being that we had been to hibachi restaurants before we chose not to sit at the grill , we know how loud it can get. So we sat in the dining area , we had a few questions about the menu , the waitress was a huge help. we ordered the dinner special, our food was prepared and brought to our table very quickly. we never had to ask for any refills for our drinks because the waitress was very observant. Customer service was not on point, I asked a server for a bowl and she stopped, paused and looked around like don't you see me doing something, as if I was bothering her. Our server came back at the end our meal to see if we needed anything. No napkins, no refills on drinks. Poor service. I will be going to Blue Fin for my sushi next time that's for sure. read more

The restaurant was very clean and we were seated right away. We ordered hibachi and also sushi. We were the last to fill up the hibachi table so the cooking started soon after. While it's not my fav' it was still very good. In addition, I appreciated them not putting bacon in the rice. I don't eat pork. Glad to have another choice for hibachi in the area. read more

Came to this place with a work group because they wanted to have sushi while in Rome... The place offers set meals and sushi rolls, so you can get a soup, salad, and an entree for around $15. They also have a section where they put on a show while they burn your food a la Benihana. Everybody in the group disliked the soup. It was not miso, but some sort of broth. The salad was uninspiring as well. The entree, which was a chicken stir fry of some sort, tasted like it only had soy sauce, not even the teriyaki kind to impart some sort of sweetness. DO NOT TRY!!!!! If you have ever had good Japanese food then you will hate this place. First of all, the place is not well-kept. I wondered why I have never seen very many people there. The service is weird, that's all I can do to describe it. We went for lunch and were served plates that looked like we ordered from the children's menu. The hibachi chicken was cooked till it resembled jerky and cut into little bitty pieces. The vegetables were cold, their dressings and sauces are subpar. I actually ate here before going to BlueFin (supposed to be best place in town, its crap) expecting Ichiban to be just a chain norm. But it defiantly was more! I would say this Ichiban is the best sushi and hibachi in Rome. The severs where friendly, quick, and informative. The food/sushi was super fresh and made very well. The sushi cheff was well knowledge in the art and served us delicious fresh sashimi cut to perfection. Not to mention that me and my boyfriend only spent 35$$$ We ordered tons of sushi and 2 appetizers!!! Which is very well priced!! I would HIGHLY recommend this place if you want to eat sushi or go to a hibachi in Rome!! We have been here several times but lately the service and food have gone downhill. This last visit my sushi came out ice cold (shrimp tempura roll). They charge for things inconsistently. Sometimes they charge extra to substitute avocado for cucumber or for sauce to go, but others they don't. The service was also terrible. Our waitress didn't say 10 words to us over the entire meal. I had to get up and stand by the bar to get teriyaki sauce and again to get to go boxes. We sat and waited for our check for 20+ minutes after we had finished eating. The worst part is that it was a weekday and they only had 4 tables. Overall this recent experience has left us not wanting to go back. read more

I ordered pickup one evening & the person taking my order kept ignoring my order and asking what I had just said over and over again. When I asked if they had all of my order, they hung up before I could ask them to read it back. My order was wrong of course and when I called back I told them that they didn't get my order right and they hung up on me before I could tell them what was wrong. When I tried to call back they did not pick up. Once I returned to the restaurant to explain that my order was wrong, the owner very angrily explained to me that they had not charged me for the items. I never explained to her that my issue wasn't over paying for my food but that they appear to be refusing to fill part of my order. I simply stomped out mad and refuse to ever give them my business again. Ru Sans has much better sushi & hibachi anyways. Thank you Ichiban. I have been to Ichiban in other cities and this one is typical. If you like the show while they cook you will love it. They have regular seating as well so you don't have to sit at the hibachi. So the previous person that said it was loud should have just sat there. The price is right in line with other Japanese places. The food was delicious and left me very satisfied. This was a terrible experience. I felt like I walked into a dirty cafeteria, the only thing missing was a fat lunch lady with a hair net. The first roll ordered was warm, and the toppings tasted as if they were scraped from the bottom of a cardboard box. I sent the roll back immediately, and the waitress began to argue with me over the taste of the roll, only to disappear and tell me that her boss insisted on charging for HALF. The shrimp smelled rotten and I regret not walking out of the restaurant after the first bite of the initial roll. Terrible staff, terrible food, and terrible atmosphere. I was looking forward to trying the new Japanese restaurant in Rome. I am sorry to say I did not have a good experience. It is possible that some of the things i did not like may be improved upon with time, as it was the first week since the restaurant had opened. We chose to be seated in a " regular" table - not at the hibachi grill, and unfortunately it was impossible to find a comfortable sitting position in the booth. The table was too far from either side of the booth and could not be moved. We were " on the edge of our seats" for the entire meal. The menu options are limited to hibachi or sushi - no other dishes are offered. We each opted for hibachi - chicken and scallops. The soup consisted of some watery chicken broth with a small amount of tiny noodles at the bottom and two slivers of mushroom garnished with a few scallions. Miso as an option would have been much appreciated. The salad consisted of approximately 1/2 cup of iceberg lettuce with a few carrots and a bit of red cabbage. It was very fresh, but quite scant. The ginger dressing was good. Our entrees arrived. We had ordered steamed rice, which was sadly dry. The chicken was dry tasteless and gristley. The scallops were overcooked and chewy as was the shrimp " appetizer" which was served with the meal. The hibachi vegetables were fresh and aside from the potatoes which were a bit undercooked, were ok. Sauce was not offered, but was available on request. We had tea, which was overpriced for the quality, but adequate. The service, as one might expect when just starting out, had room for improvement. I am hopeful, however, that these issues can all be improved with time and experience, and will update my review after any future visits. read more
