3.5 stars. Most of our ICHIBAN Sushi experiences have been via take-out, but we did dine in once and I referred Sisa to this place. ICHIBAN Sushi is a small, casual, and cozy Japanese restaurant located on El Camino Real. Because of its location and lack of a private lot, parking can be tight and limited. With its sushi bar, regular table, and tatami room seating, the ambiance is family-friendly and unpretentious. ICHIBAN's menu offers sushi & sashimi plus Japanese standards such as teriyaki, katsu, udon, and ramen at generous portions and reasonable prices, making dining here both satisfying and economical. After visiting on Saturday, February 15, 2025, per my recommendation, Sisa commented on the food and serving sizes, "It's good and reasonable...I couldn't even finish my meal." She and Pal truly enjoyed lunching here. Some notes on the food: * V and I tend to order the Ichiban Combinations because they are great deals - served with miso soup, salad, rice & 3 pcs California roll + your choice of the different 1 to 3 listed items. * The GYOZA keep their crisp, even when ordering to-go, but V hasn't been a big fan of the sweet, but mildly spicy sauce. * Unfortunately, the SHRIMP TEMPURA loses its crisp and tends to become floppy when you get it for take-out. * SEAWEED SALAD is decent. * Z gives the CRUNCHY CALIFORNIA ROLL a rating of 7 out of 10. The Spicy sauce (on the side, per request) did not taste very good to me and lacked the kick of spice. * Z says that the lower prices reflect the quality of the food. V disagrees. I'm in the middle of the vote because the sauce and texture of the CHICKEN TERIYAKI is not always the best. Take-out service is great - when placing your order online, the staff will call you right away with any questions that they have and to confirm items. Miso soup was only warm, coming in closer to closing you are truly here's in like cattle and you will get your check when you get your entree, meanwhile there is the restaurants entire family dining in the large middle tables while they are also getting up to serve you. This is kind of a you get what you pay for situation. The food is VERY reasonably price, but unfortunately my meal wasn't that good. I got a dinner combination with salted saba (aka mackerel) and tempura for $11.95. The accompanying miso soup lacked a good "dashi" based and was kind of watered down. The salted saba was relatively bland and over cooked. I liked the salad dressing, but unfortunately most of the pieces of lettuce were pretty crappy. California roll was pretty standard, no complaints here. The best part of the meal was the tempura, so if I were to ever come back I would just get a side of tempura. read more

We looked and placed our orders after five minutes. It was on a Sunday so they had NFL football on their TV. The food came out after 10-13 minutes. We ordered a beef and chicken Bento box We got a salmon bento box. We also ordered some sushi. The chicken was not bad and it had some crunchy pieces on it. The beef was good, but the last few pieces of beef were overcooked and rough. I couldn't chew it. Salmon was fine and nothing special. The sushi was decent. It's a decent place for Japanese food. The portions looked decent and each bento came with miso soup, salad and 3 pieces of California roll. I think it was 13.95 or 15.95 which is the cheapest I've seen for 3 items. The tempura was decent but the beef was tough and dry and the katsu tasted double tried. Honestly I liked the salad the best. Our waitress never checked in on us but seemed focused on the table next to us who seemed to friends of the sushi guy. There were a lot of people picking up but it was generally empty inside. Four stars for the CHEAP BENTO BOXES! Where else can you find bento boxes for $8-9? It comes with miso soup, salad, rice, and a 3pc California roll. If you opt for the 1 item, you get mixed tempura. I've tried the bbq beef, chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu, and salmon teriyaki. They're all pretty good! Flavorful and never overcooked. It was decent, but I think I'll stick to bento boxes or special rolls next time. You can never go wrong with lion king roll! This place is super unclean. The floors were dirty and I am pretty sure the lady did not wipe our table we sat in beforehand. She also gave us dishes that were not clean either, and we had to point that out to her. Our sushi did not come out all together either and the service was slow. Decent sushi for a very good value. My husband and I were in the area and were looking for a place to have an early dinner when we came upon Ichiban. In fact, this was the same restaurant that we had our second date at many years ago :) We decided to revisit old memories and came in and grabbed a table in the same area that we had sat in before. I ordered a miso soup, large hot sake, a specialty roll (can't remember the name of it but it came with salmon and lemon slices on top), and flying fish nigiri with quail egg added in. While this place doesn't have the freshest sushi I've ever had, everything was very tasty and I actually really enjoyed the combined flavors of the raw quail egg with the roe in my nigiri. We've ordered random weekday lunches, dinners and even party platters. Everything has been good and arrived as we've ordered it. Their salad dressing though is by far my ultimate favorite and I wish they're was an option on DoorDash to order a double salad (instead of rice and salad) for their combos. Before the pandemic we would randomly enjoy dinners in their restaurant, but have since been leveraging food delivery companies. Decided to order the salmon sashimi to be "healthier" cause the quarantine definitely got me gaining weight. Salmon Sashimi: this was actually decent, very buttery but no taste if that makes sense. Ankimo: this is what brought the review down to 1 star. The ankimo had a funky and unappetizing smell to it, like it went bad.
