    Udon and tempura
    Chyna C.

Was driving with my family and we spotted this place from Highway 1. We were hungry and decided to stop here for dinner. The restaurant itself has a very nice ambiance. Clean and well maintained. We were greeted and sat at a table immediately. It took us a while to decide on what to order since everything sounded good. I ordered the udon with tempura on the side, we ordered another plate of shrimp tempura, a beef teriyaki entree, and a chicken teriyaki entree. The food took some time to come out because the restaurant was filling up FAST. We received our order and everything was to our liking. The tempura was hot, fresh, and crunchy. The entrees were fantastic. They were served with a bowl of hot miso soup and a fresh, mixed green salad. All of the food was delicious and we left with full stomachs and empty plates behind. Will definitely eat here again.

Pacifica needs a solid Japanese choice and RJC is a good start. On our visit yellowtail sashimi was good, as was yakitori. Beef short ribs - tasty but chewy, and mackerel nigiri was more fishy than expected

We're Pacificans and were impressed with Rockaway Japanese Cuisine. The new look is beautiful and welcoming. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food and drinks were delicious. My favorites were the fish tacos, Wagyu nigiri and Kobe beef roll. We'll be back.

Proud to report this place has the same menu as the old Japanese restaurant and maybe some added things! Undoubtably the name is easier to say. Service was exceptional, we were seated quickly and food came out fast. Everything tasted perfectly cooked, was fresh and made with care. Dishes were cleared as we ate and they even had the fifa games on during dinner! 110% will be back and glad they reopened. Swing by here for a delicious and filling dinner

After a whirlwind trip to LA where all I ate was fast and deep fried food, I got to have a fantastic Japanese dinner at Rockaway. We started with the mixed tempura plate, which was then perfect appetizer. I ordered the sashimi salad, which had the freshest mix of fish on top of dressed greens. I ordered the small hot sake, which the waitstaff upgraded to a large, so we could share it during the cold evening. The restaurant was busy but not crowded and not noisy. We enjoyed our first dinner there, and we'll be back.

Thank you corner feature. So cute.

We were in the area and were lucky they were still open. What a great little place! The wait staff was friendly and efficient and brought the food out as Ison as it was ready. The rolls were amazingly flavorful and the meats were tender. While we were there, it was someone's birthday and we all sang Happy Birthday! It was such a cool experience. We will definitely be back. Max capacity said 49 people. They have a TV so hopefully they will play the sports games during the seasons. Such a great find! Thank you

Grand opening was a blast! Food was amazing. I had the Salmon Crunchy roll and beef short ribs along with salad and miso soup. So good! Ambiance was awesome as well, had good vibes all around. Service was fantastic, I can go on and on. 10/10 and will make this place a staple when I'm in Pacifica

Hughes is the best chef! I recommend sitting at the bar & letting him surprise you! Chu toro, salmon, fresh wasabi & crunchy tempura bits

If you are open to tasty sushi and fresh fish I woukd sit at the bar and letting Hughes surprise you. The omakase is absolutely incredible! We have always had a great experience here. I suggest going before 6 without a reservation, or calling ahead and asking them to hold a table for you if you want to dine later.

All of their specialty rolls have seemed really fresh and they have some unique combinations, but what was truly surprising was the quality of the salmon avocado roll which came in the lunch combo - with no sauces or garnishes to hide behind, the freshness of both the fish and the avocado came through. It's such a basic item that we would never think to order it on its own, but we were so pleased with the quality! Service on Sundays can be a bit slow, but they only have one waiter. He's very friendly. The parking lot situation (which other reviews may touch on) is strict between each business, so they may warn you to make sure you've parked in a space meant for the business/not blocking any other parking. The restaurant itself isn't huge, but we haven't yet had problems with getting a table. We could imagine that they may get busier for later lunch times than ours.

They were also talking it up with some one who was waiting for a to-go order. I dined in with two rolls, which ran me about $18 and change. Just water, no tea, no miso, and two rolls that had some fairly loose wrapped fillings. Out of the 12 pieces I think 5 of them fell apart as I was lifting them to my mouth. That is not right. Piece of avocado & a piece of scallop fell onto my shirt. I guess I needed to do laundry anyways. Perhaps it was because I was sitting in the sun? I don't know for it to happen ~50% of the time I rate that as poor rolling. The taste was great! Service was pretty mediocre. 15 minute wait from order to my table (I was the only person dining in). No check in about the meal, no "how are you today?", no refill on water, and no tip provided as a result. I'll probably come back again if I have a craving for Japanese, just because it's close-by but it's no Go-Sushi.

The restaurant is located right off Highway 1 Southbound at Rockaway Beach, which is a great little area to walk around in. There are coastline views, a handful of local shops to pop into, and the Mori Point hiking trail if you want to get in a few thousand steps. Parking is available at all times throughout Rockaway Beach, making access to the restaurant easy even during peak hours. Uoyakutei itself has a good variety of classic Japanese dishes. You'll find sushi, ramen, skewers, specialty meats and fish, bento boxes, all manners of rice and vegetables, and beer/sake all on the menu. On my trip there, I tried the Gyu Skewers, Chicken Karage, and Chicken Teriyaki dinner plate. All of them were amazing! Particularly the Gyu skewers. I don't know what the chefs season the meat with, but it's tender, juicy, and so very tasty. At $4 per plate, with 2 skewers per plate, they're a very good deal and probably the best thing at restaurant. The restaurant has a decent amount of table seating, as well as a sushi bar for single diners who wish to pop in and out and get something quick. Service is also very good all around. While the hosts can sometimes get busy checking people in and getting them to their tables, the sushi chefs and servers are all very welcoming and warm. It's a great experience beyond the food, and the food's quality just makes it an even better local spot. Highly recommend if you're passing through Pacifica and need your fix of Asian food!
