I've always loved this place, but I've noticed some disappointing changes lately. I picked up a variety of cupcakes for my daughter's 15th birthday, and right away I could tell the icing texture has changed from their signature smooth swirl to more of a crinkled, grocery store-style frosting. There's also noticeably less frosting on the cupcakes, which was one of the things that used to make them stand out. This is something random but another change is that they no longer cut the brownie and blondie bars. That small touch used to be such a nice convenience, and it's a real disappointment that they've stopped doing it. I'm hoping they bring back some of those signature details that made them special! read more

The cake was incredibly moist, the flavor was rich without being overly sweet, and every bite tasted fresh and homemade. You can really tell they put a lot of care into what they make. First time trying Icing on the Cupcake. I showed up at 10AM and chose a 4 pack from the available selection. Website says they are made fresh nightly, but I find that hard to believe. All of my cupcakes had a tough almost stale texture on the tops. The bottom portions were soft and the flavor of the cake and icing was ok, but I couldn't get over the hard crust on top. read more

Placed an order online for cupcakes for my daughter's birthday. Picked up in store and received 16 frosting smashed cupcakes. The girl behind the counter noticed right away but wasn't able to replace them on the spot, she was nice but didn't know how to handle the situation. We came on a Friday afternoon to get some cupcakes for a treat and some to gift. The shop was clean & cute. There were a lot of adorable cupcakes to choose from. They also had cookie sandwiches. We received patient, very friendly, hospitable service. Our cupcakes were packed with care and nicely sealed with a label. I really appreciated the complimentary gift tag card that was available. We ate a vanilla/vanilla, death by chocolate, & s'mores. All were delicious indulgent treats. Death by chocolate was intensely chocolatey & the cream inside was so smooth. Sadly it's changed. I have been a fan of icing on the cupcake since 2008 back when they just had one small location. I ordered their cupcakes to serve at my wedding in 2012 and have always gotten them as a treat for visiting family. Something has changed. Well, a lot has changed from the packaging to the way they do the frosting. It seems like less frosting on the cupcakes and that the cakes themselves are a bit dryer. Not sure if this is just all a result of changing your times but they are not the treat they once were. read more

I was hoping they would have their amazing butterscotch blondies available and I was lucky enough to get the last one of the day- SCORE! I ended up getting the butterscotch blondie ($3.25), chocolate fudge brownie ($3.25), and four cupcakes ($4/cupcake) the Red Velvet, Pinkdelicious, German Chocolate and Snowball as a four pack. They were beautifully made and decorated and I was excited to order the four to take some Valentine's themed photos and of course enjoy. The staff were friendly, but it seems like they were pretty busy as well with a phone order. They got me in and out of the store quickly and I was so excited about the butterscotch blondie, they're seriously the best. They've done a complete remodel and what used to be one large shop has now been divided into two suites which are occupied by two different businesses. I usually go to the downtown location and the Folsom one and never had an issue. I came here today close to 5 pm and saw a sign. It said out to lunch. I saw several people walking around in the back. I guess they were all on lunch. The problem is not that but whoever put the sign didn't put the time they will come back. Basically customers were waiting and didn't know when their 30 minute lunch was going to be over. Never coming back to this location again because there is no care how long customers wait! read more

This is my go to place for cupcakes. They have an awesome selection of flavors and always well stocked.

Great customer service! I stopped in around 4:00 on a Thursday and was greeted by both employees behind the counter and they were both attentive and eager to help. My cupcakes were packaged with great care and they looked beautiful. Note: watch out for the sticker label the box is sealed with. It's one of those plastic-y packaging tape kind of stickers, and requires scissors or a knife to break through it, or risk a mean paper cut (speaking from experience lol) I got six cupcakes: beehive, key lime, brown butter coffee cake, confetti, chocolate cake w/chocolate frosting, and pink delicious. Some were filled and some were not, which I think really made a difference in our taste experiences. Key lime: Unfilled. Cale was moist and lightly lime flavored. I thought the lime tasted fake and wasn't a fan but husband liked it a lot. Brown Butter Coffee Cake: cake was dense but still moist. Flavor was good-- we all enjoyed it to varying degrees. Chocolate w/Chocolate: Unfilled. Very chocolatey flavor but cake was too dry for our liking. Beehive: Filled. Our favorite of the bunch. The filling inside really made a difference and the honey flavor was surprisingly delicious (considering I don't care for the taste of raw honey). Confetti: Unfilled. Cake was on the drier side. Husband said it tasted a bit like cornmeal. Pink Delicious: Unfilled. Moist chocolate cake with good chocolatey flavor. Frosting is good, nothing special (but we do love the color pink!) Overall, I'd come back, but would lean towards the filled cupcakes for optimal enjoyment. read more

They occasionally have coupons in the mail, so keep an eye out for those. The lemon is great and usually the chocolate ones are good. The red velvet was pretty dry this time. The Apple one was meh. I guess it's hit or miss with the flavors. However, the door was locked. Workers, at least 3, were inside. They noticed us but didn't ever come out. Then when I knocked, they turned out the lights. So very rude. My neighbor gave me the cupcakes from Icing on the cupcakes. They were delicious. The second time I tried here, was okay. Not bad but not great like the first time. Somehow the cakes were drier.....not sure if they were old or they just didn't make them right. Today, the third time trying here, the cupcakes were great. Of all three times I tried their cupcakes, I am certain their chocolate cupcakes are the best. And I don't even like chocolate flavored usually. But their chocolate cupcakes are more moist than other vanilla looking cakes. Service....I had great customer service both times. Pricing is just right I think. And I love that they have different flavors for each day of the week. My favorite is hot chocolate mashmallow and pink delicious. I hope they will provide moist cupcakes consistently and I definitely would be a regular customer. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. Apple Maps says the Rocklin location closes at 8, arrive at 7:08 to find location closed. See employees behind counter, go up to the door and knock and they swiftly walk away. After five minutes of knocking and looking at cupcakes in the display case, a very rude employee finally opens the door of whom I inform that Apple Maps has their hours wrong. She says "that's our J Street location" and then I point out the address. She very rudely says thanks and I say I was just stopping by to get my son a birthday cupcake. I used to be a regular Sunday customer, but they lost my business this past weekend when they decided to ignore many requests to bring it back. What a shame. Why buy a business and change the thing that was brining in the business? Maybe losing a $30.00 a week customer can make them see the light? read more

They did dessert catering for our wedding for 75 people, made our wedding cake, and delivered on a Sunday which they don't normally do. This showed that they are willing to work with specific situations and requests. It was super affordable as well and they offer a free tasting of cupcake flavors. Stephanie was very helpful and communicative. She made sure the decorations were just right. The wedding cake looked exactly like we wanted and tasted perfect for our special moment. Despite the abundance of cupcakes made, the cupcakes each had the signature delicious taste and impeccable photogenic presentation. The delivery was on time and exactly accurate to what was ordered as well.
