Then in post-op appointments, she went on to explain her diagnosis clearly enough for me to understand. My left breast was Stage 1A, but my right breast was Stage 2A due to 3 positive lymph nodes including one with extracapsular extension. One would think Dr. Terhar was at her best answering my questions or performing surgery that's kept me breast cancer-free now for over 5 years. Of course, but here's what I'll NEVER forget about Dr. Terhar. She knew I had ridden my bicycle to an appointment even though I was heavily bandaged up. (I have a PPO, it was explained that I don't need a referral) Three weeks later, I was seen by my new PCP who put in a STAT referral to this office with all my previous medical records. Another two and a half weeks go by, doctor is in office only two days a week, I am being told that the Doctor refuses to see me because I am not NEWLY DIAGNOSED. Seriously??? Every time I speak with somebody, I explain my situation and needs, they ask for records, etc. and now after six weeks I am denied??? Back to the drawing board.

I did some research and even attended a demonstration at another business to educate myself. I originally tried to make the appointment online and couldn't find any open appointments. I then called and they said they were moving away from the online scheduling system and would rather go through everything over the phone especially if there's any pre procedure instructions or questions that they need answered prior to booking. I loved that, a business who wants to communicate with the customer and make sure there's no misunderstandings. There were several appointments available at all times of the day any day of the week. When I got there, they were also just as attentive if not more! I was also then walked into one of the rooms and asked about my history, any goals I had for my skin, and medications. Part of the pre procedure was also talking to a PA and verifying my history. Then Evie came in to start the blood withdraw. Throughout the process I was constantly asked about how I felt, what to expect, and how I would like to proceed. Since I was nervous, they told me I could wait an entire hour for my numbing, which I did. I didn't feel rushed and felt comfortable the whole time. I LOVED this. As mentioned previously I went to a demonstration elsewhere. Numbing was only 15 minutes there so the fact that they allowed me 1 hour, made me feel so safe and relaxed. Their process seemed to have a good flow: check in at front desk then a few minutes later a medical assistant would call for the patient with a little iPad in hand at the door (maybe the current version of a clipboard with patient information?). I waited a little bit as I watched people come and go from their door. I was called and taken back at 10:35a. After talking to the assistant about my reason for my visit and etc. for about 2 minutes, I was left to sit and wait for the doctor. Time seemed to pass slowly as my room was awfully quiet but staff outside were chatting away. Patiently waiting, I read through every little pamphlet in that room, front to back, for about another 30 minutes until I was tired of waiting. I left the room and notified staff I was leaving; they advised I was next on the list to be seen. The delayed update was nice to know - although prompted by me, but an hour of idle sitting isn't the best use of my time. I can't imagine someone's frustration if they've experienced the same while taking time off from work to visit this office. I cannot comment on their care or expertise in the medical/dermatology world as I did not get treated for anything. Front desk staff did call me after I left to ask if I wanted to keep the paid amount as a credit to the account or to be refunded - I chose the latter as I don't see myself coming back anytime soon.
