Nothing appears out of order in this store, but I'm sure this level of attention to detail is why. The Expert (??? I don't know - I just met this person, but it was a vibe) Bari very kindly introduced themselves to me and allowed me to try a variety of pens. This was a kindness as I blustered through my terrible handwriting until I finally met my perfect match - Cinderella & the Ballpoint Pen. Since I was getting a pen for writing, Bari suggested I get a felt tip pen. Thus I am the proud owner of an extra fine brush pen I have been using religiously since purchasing it there for the fine price of five dollars. Honestly - I think I'm starting to write like I own a good pen . Jokes aside, I had a really lovely and unexpected experience at this store. The Ainslie Arts Plaza is a new addition to the Lincoln Square/Ravenswood neighborhood. When they…read moreknocked down the McDonald's and rebuilt it in 2020/2021, they made this strip of parking an arts plaza. It's been fun to see it come to life with the green planters, twinkle lights, murals on the boxes, and now events like movies in the plaza. Excited to see what else they'll think of to utilize this lovely space. The only downside? You're right off the street so you hear all the honking, all the yelling, and all the screeching that comes along with Chicago drivers. Plus, McD's is the only food option (but at least there's something!).

This is their second store, the first having been too small so they moved everything to this new storefront ... and it immediately became too small. There seems to always be a line outside ... especially on weekends ... but they have staff controlling entry to keep it from getting crazy-crowded inside. Interest in stationary/paper/notebooks seem to have had a resurgence lately ... and Paper and Pencil leads the way. If you are journaling ... you'll find just about everything you need in this one store. Pens, paper (and yes, pencils), note cards, stickers, journals, washi tape, folders, and on and on. Staff were routinely friendly and helpful. Now while it is a bit expensive in here for some items, you just can't replicate the pleasure of see/feel/touch, rather than ordering over Amazon. There is a crowd here for a reason ... do make your way here when in Andersonville. You'll be glad you did.
